GRAB A SPOON! WE'RE JUST GETTING STARTED
Posted by: Turkey Hill Team
Look how far ice cream has come. From its first days in China about 3,000 years ago to its rise in popularity in the late 1800s and now its very own blog.
Everyone here at Turkey Hill is very excited about this opportunity to discuss our love of ice cream and interact with fellow ice cream lovers, whether you're from Pennsylvania, California or halfway across the globe. We get so many questions about ice cream and the ice cream making process, and this is our chance to talk about it and share our knowledge with you. We also noticed that just about everyone likes ice cream, but there aren't many ice cream blogs out there to satisfy our curiosity.
For those of you who aren't familiar with blogs, it's just a section of our website that we'll use to write about ice cream facts, stories, recipes and offer a behind-the-scenes look at what's happening at Turkey Hill. Fun stuff really. We'll try to keep it as interesting and light-hearted as possible. We'll also be updating our blog about three times each week, so feel free to stop by often. (To be notified when the blog is updated, just submit your e-mail address via the column on the right of this page.)
Feel free to leave feedback and comments using the “comments” link at the bottom of every entry. We really want to hear what you think as often as possible, so don't worry about commenting “too often.” (There's no such thing.)
Your opinions, ideas and questions are a big part of what has made Turkey Hill Ice Cream into what it is today. We've created new flavors, new website options and even put our ice cream in new stores based on your suggestions. You don't even have to leave a detailed comment. If you simply like our blog or a particular entry, just let us know. We'll also try our best to respond to each and every comment and question you leave.
The bottom line? This blog is meant to be fun. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy writing it. And, just like ice cream, feel free to share it with friends!

President, Turkey Hill Dairy

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.

Edie,
I had coconut cream pie ice cream from turkey hill…they made it last year as a limited edition around february…my guess is it will be back next year as well. You could call Turkey Hill and I’m sure they could tell you for sure…
December 1st, 2006 at 8:39 amI love your ice cream, especially when the store has them for sale at buy one, get one free.
November 26th, 2006 at 3:52 pm1/2 GALLON (really?) and ROSE, thanks for your comments. We’re glad to have you as fans and as readers of our new blog.

November 23rd, 2006 at 12:28 pmWould LOVE some of that Berried Treasure ice cream from Turkey Hill. Where can I get it???
November 22nd, 2006 at 5:38 pmAlso, do you ever consider making an orange/ pineapple or a coconut/ pineapple ice cream? I’ve had these out west and really enjoyed them there but have not seen them since.
That’s right (the don’t call you the “T Hill Guru” for nothing!). Southern Lemon Pie will be available as a limited edition in April. Fat Free Southern Lemon Pie will be out from January through April.
November 22nd, 2006 at 8:46 amLinda,
there’s Southern Lemon Pie…not sure when/if it will be out again next year…i think it comes out in the spring for like a month…
November 20th, 2006 at 3:19 pmEven though I make a lot of ice cream, I love yours. Do you make lemon ice cream? I do using my own recipe.
November 17th, 2006 at 8:49 amHas there even been a contest using the name of the winner as a flavor of ice cream?
November 15th, 2006 at 2:17 pmWow, the comments keep rolling in (that’s a good thing). Where to start?
KRISTY - Good question (about the origins of the Turkey Hill name). We’ve got a post about that scheduled for a later date, so stay tuned.
WINONA - Congrats on move, but sorry to hear that you may be moving out of “Turkey Hill Territory.” Check out the “Find Us” tool to locate Turkey Hill products near you: http://www.turkeyhill.com/products/product-locator.asp
SUSAN - Unfortunately our factory isn’t set up for public tours. Sorry about that.
BRUCE - No fat-free egg nog this year, but we’ll take it into consideration for the next. We’ve got a long list of suggested flavors that we reference for inspiration when it comes time to create new varieties.
BONNIE - We’ve seen places that offer bits of sugar cookies as an inclusion and, yes, it’s definitely good. That’s another one for our list.
CATHY - YES! FAT-FREE Southern Lemon Pie will be available January through April and regular Southern Lemon Pie will be available in April.
To everyone else, thanks for your comments and praise! It’s so nice to hear from so many fellow ice cream lovers.
November 15th, 2006 at 8:32 amI was glad to see that Peppermint Ice Cream has returned to the stores for the holidays. Will Southern Lemon Ice Cream Pie also be returning? Those are my absolute 2 favorite ice creams. Turkey Hill is the only ones that make these ice creams. Please keep them coming and offer them throughout the year.
November 14th, 2006 at 3:31 pmWow - 3,000 years ago in China! I wonder what the first flavor was? There are all sorts of designer flavors out there now like green tea and wasabi, etc. maybe it’s just gone full circle!
November 14th, 2006 at 2:40 pmHas anyone ever heard of sugar-cookie ice cream as a flavor? I found a recipe to make an ice cream cake, by mixing apple pie filling with rum raisin ice cream, putting in a graham-cracker crust & covering with caramel sauce! I want to make this, but i’m not crazy about rum raisin, so i thought sugar cookie would taste good, does anyone agree?
November 13th, 2006 at 1:30 pmAny chance a fat-free egg nog flavor will come out this year?
November 13th, 2006 at 11:54 amFINALLY! A blog that contains one of my biggest interests but is posted so infrequently that it will not deter me from reading the posts! Living in Pennsylvania is a plus, as the closest Turkey Hill is practically my haven at only five minutes away, especially to stock up on Orbit Gum and ice-cream, of course! Thanks again.
November 13th, 2006 at 10:07 amI was lucky enough to see the Big Cow at my local Wegman’s a couple of months ago. And it was an unlisted stop and there I was. Got to meet a couple of nice Turkey Hill employees as an added bonus. Made me feel like a kid for the rest of the day.
November 11th, 2006 at 10:38 amLove your Ice Cream especially the Butter Pecan and the Choc chip mint. What’s better before bed than a big bowl of your favorite ice cream and a couple of PA Dutch pretzels. Yum enought of this I’m going for some ice cream!!!! See you later
November 10th, 2006 at 10:53 ammy nephew lives in Lancaster-do you give tours and where are you located? thank you
November 10th, 2006 at 8:20 amI’m moving South to KY soon. How far North do I have to go to get Turkey Hill products??
November 10th, 2006 at 8:20 amWe just tried your new flavors pinapple upside down cake and the banana split and they are the best new flavors in quite a while hope will be able to get them often.
November 9th, 2006 at 2:00 pmEating some Turkey Hill vanilla ice-cream the other day, my daughter commented “what kind of name is Turkey Hill”. I was wondering how did Turkey Hill get it’s name. Does anyone know?
Thanks
November 9th, 2006 at 10:55 amHey T Hill Team…I thought you guys had a feature flavor ice cream…Berried Treasure….which had cheesecake pieces and raspberry
Hey Bryan…maybe they will bring this back…just call T Hill and ask for it
November 7th, 2006 at 2:56 pmthanks!
November 7th, 2006 at 8:42 am1/2 GALLON - Sorry about that! To answer your very good question, all of the nutritional information for our no sugar added ice cream is 100 percent true, even if it is sometimes hard to believe.
A little more “this” and a little less “that” have enabled us to cut corners on sugar and calories while maintaining serving sizes and tastes. Of course, we can’t really say what “this” and “that” are (our competitors would love that!), but we can tell you its nothing that isn’t list right there on the side of the container.
November 7th, 2006 at 8:35 amI can’t say enough how much I love your ice cream and teas! I’m a total Turkey Hill addict! Keep up the good work!
November 6th, 2006 at 5:12 pmoops - forgot my message - you never answered my original question about the nutrition info…
no dinner for me tonight - but I did eat almost a whole half gallon of the no sugar ice cream… this is why I eat the NSA kind and want to double check the nutrition information. If I won the free ice cream for a year, I think you guys would lose A LOT of $!
November 6th, 2006 at 8:12 amJULIUS - We’ve seen cows do a lot of things over the years. They’re a lot smarter than people give them credit for. As for flying cows (like the ones on our website), there was that cow in the nursery rhyme that jumped over the moon. Does that count?
GEORGE - We’re sorry to hear about your dilemma. We’d love to make some crushed pecan ice cream to help you out, but our machines aren’t capable of making such limited batches. In the meantime, may we recommend our Light Recipe Strawberry Cheesecake? The bits of cheesecake are soft, yet still capable of satisfying your craving for ice cream with extra good stuff mixed in.
1/2 GALLON (really?) and ROSE, thanks for your comments. We’re glad to have you as fans and as readers of our new blog.
November 6th, 2006 at 8:07 amHow is it that Turkey Hill manages to make the tastiest (in my opinion) no sugar added ice cream and still have ~30 calories per serving LESS than the other companies with about a 10% LARGER serving size…? You guys are sure about the 70 calories per serving, right?
November 4th, 2006 at 6:32 pmI stoped eating your nut filled ice cream because of no upper teeth can you grind them for some of us elderly folks and call it (Choclate crushed pecan)
November 4th, 2006 at 6:09 pmCan Cows really Fly??
November 3rd, 2006 at 1:21 pmGeorge,
We’re more than happy to help! The 75th Anniversary Sweepstakes is still on. To enter your code, visit http://www.turkeyhill.com/75 and follow the link at the bottom of the page. There are still lots of prizes left. Good luck!
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:26 amBryan,
There is no Raspberry Cheesecake Ice Cream, but there is a Black Raspberry flavor. Like you mentioned, you probably bought our Strawberry Cheesecake flavor from our Light Recipe line. But Raspberry Cheesecake does sound pretty good!
November 3rd, 2006 at 10:19 amI was just wondering if anyone has come across Turkey Hill Rasberry Chesse Cake Ice Cream before or if i just bouth a gallon of the strawberry and thought it was rasberry.
November 2nd, 2006 at 5:57 pmThe blog,in fact the entire web site,is very interesting. But, I logged on becauseof the litle Have A Cow contest sticker that was on the container of MintChocolateChip (one of my very favorites) that we bought a couple of weeks ago.If that contest is still on (Sweepstakes ends Jan ‘07?),how do I enter??The number on my cow contest stickeris K851xx730. I won’t give the xx info until you give me more info. So, waddaya say? George
