(A movie that will make you laugh out loud.) Here's my solution, although it happens very rarely in our home, because Turkey Hill ice cream just doesn't last that long to need any "protective" ice, I just cover the top of the ice cream securely with wax paper. Now that silly ice can't penetrate through to the ice cream. (Plastic wrap works also.) Hope this helps.
