A LOT COOLER THAN PAPER OR PLASTIC
Posted by: Turkey Hill Team
Back in December we wrote about how to avoid an ice cream meltdown during those marathon grocery store visits (especially during the summer months). Now the folks over at Miles Kimball are offering the “Cooler Shopping Bag” ($8.99)—an insulated, reusable bag designed to keep the important things like ice cream, steaks, ice cream, fish and ice cream cold and fresh until they are safely at home in your freezer. (We like to use it for ice cream.)
We like this bag so much we’re going to give some away to three randomly selected commenters at the end of this month. We also like it because it eliminates the need for plastic and paper bags, which is good for environment. Is there anything this bag can’t do?

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.

July is the best month of the year. Turkey Hill month. Oh I guess it’s supposed to be Ice Cream month but to us it means TURKEY HILL month because there is no other. We celabrated our 54th wedding anniversary this month with a big dish of ice cream. What’s new, we do that just about every evening, usually with Rocky Road and Butter Pecan or Eagles Football when we can find it.
July 15th, 2007 at 10:57 amKeep up the good work.
Hi, this bag looks really cool, no pun intended…LOL.
July 13th, 2007 at 8:46 pmI would really like one of these, my ice cream is somewhat melted by the time I get home from the store, and of course my freezer doesnt freeze it very well, but it would be nice to at least get it home frozen before it goes into my freezer. My children really like the party cake ice cream. Love it!!!!
COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 13th, 2007 at 6:23 amBesides finishing off the whole gallon of COFFEE ice cream I devoured half of the gallon of orange and cream which was like have a “dreamsicle”. 98 degrees here and I should have had one of those cooler bags so I wouldn’t have had to “drink” my rasberry when I got home!!!!Delicious shake but it gave me brain freeze!
July 13th, 2007 at 1:24 amI can’t imagine anyone loves icecream more than I do. I love your cooler bag idea because the best ice cream is firm enough for a person to enjoy every delicious contour! Icecream is an absolutely heavenly experience for all my senses and I have never been able to commit myself to just one flavor.
Naturally, if I didn’t have a cooler bag and my precious treat were to melt a little…it wouldn’t slow me down much. Haha.
July 12th, 2007 at 7:38 pmThis is the first I am hearing about the bag. It is one of the best ideas for ice cream lovers. I especially like your new invention Duetto. The Mango Vanilla is absolutely delicious and is my favorite, second is Black Cherry so keep up the good work and you will never lose me as a customer.
July 11th, 2007 at 4:00 pmPlease choose me! I love your ice cream!!!!
July 9th, 2007 at 11:11 amTurkey Hill ice cream!!!! Gobble, gobble, gobble!!! That’s what I do whenever I get the chance to taste your ice cream!!!!
July 9th, 2007 at 11:11 amOooohhh!!! Coooool! I want one, please! I love those wooden handles and the way you have them rolled into the fabric of the bag.
BUT, I LOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVEEEE Turkey Hill ice cream even more. Especially the Splenda made, low fat, low carbohydrate versions. HHHMMMMMM, HHHMMMMM,Good!!!!!!
July 9th, 2007 at 11:09 amThe icecream bag is a great idea for when I have extra stops to make after the grocery store and worry about my icecream melting before I get home. Also I tried your blackcherry icecream for the first time and it reminds me of icecream festivals with my grandparents. Thanks and add some more exciting flavors…… I am still waiting for the green mango tea to come in a gallon size container….
July 9th, 2007 at 10:43 amseven kids seven differant flavers wow
July 9th, 2007 at 9:07 amThere is nothing better than a dish or cone of ice cream on a hot summer’s day!
July 8th, 2007 at 10:54 pmFor a super treat, I make a very simple coffee cake, warm it up just so slightly, and top it off with Turkey Hill’s choco chip mint ice cream. And that’s it. Couldn’t get any simplier and it really hits the spot! No other toppings are needed! Absolutely delicious! If you make this, I guarantee you will enjoy this as much as my family.
July 8th, 2007 at 5:48 pmGet item to tote my Turkey Hill Ice Cream home because with gas prices so HIGH, I do all my weekly shopping in one trip!
July 8th, 2007 at 1:30 pmThese bags are the COOLEST!!!!!!! get it? Nothing is better that a BIG bag for Turkey Hill Ice Cream toting.
July 4th, 2007 at 9:53 pmGreat idea- will pick one up asap!
July 2nd, 2007 at 9:03 amWhat an awesome idea! I usually drag along a cooler to put my frozen products in. But then there are the times I forget to put it into the car. This tote bag would travel so much better. And could be put into the car right after putting the ice cream into the freezer. Assuming we don’t just sit down and eat it right away! : )
July 1st, 2007 at 8:55 pmOMG, just what I need to get my 4 or more cartons home! Giant grocery has it on sale at a 4/for or 5/for price all the time. I have teenagers with lots of friends who always come to our house to have ice cream. Right now I have 4 flavors open upstairs, and 5 in the freezer in the basement, never can have to much ice cream around.
July 1st, 2007 at 12:02 amThis would be wonderful to have to bring it all home in!!
I think I’ll go eat some now!
Wow, this bag is awesome! I already reuse my paper and plastic shopping bags when I go food shopping and recycled them when they’re no longer usable.
June 30th, 2007 at 10:24 pmSounds great! It should keep the great taste of my Turkey Hill ice cream!
June 30th, 2007 at 9:49 pmWhat a great idea to maintain the great flavor and texture of ice cream.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:42 pmThese bags are great, if you can remember to bring them when you go shopping. Alot of people are trying to use reusabe bags of all types in order to help the earth (go green!). If we
June 30th, 2007 at 8:34 pmcan change our habits and remember the bags every time we go shopping we’ll succeed. As a grocery cashier I get alot of tips from my customers. One way to always have your bags is to put them in your car as soon as you’re done
unloading your groceries. Once the
Turkey Hill ice cream is safely in the freezer, that is.
Ice Cream is my favorite food in the world and Turkey Hill is #1! Turkey Hill Choco Mint Chip is my absolute favorite. Gotta have it every weekend! Love Southern Lemon Pie and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, too! Oh, and Fudge Swirl and Coffee and …
June 30th, 2007 at 6:40 pmOoh, I really need one of these. These 95 degree days are brutal and unless I’m going straight home I have to pass on buying ice cream. I do ask for a paper bag for ice cream even if I’m going right home. It seems to help the ice cream to hold until I can get it in the freezer.
June 30th, 2007 at 4:24 pmSounds like a great idea! We love ice cream and I am always buying it!
June 30th, 2007 at 8:56 amYeah!!! no more melted ice-cream.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:56 amI think that Turkey Hill beats the competion “HANDS DOWN!” Bag is great idea!
June 30th, 2007 at 8:56 amWhat a fantastic idea, I may just need to get myself one of these : )
June 30th, 2007 at 8:55 amI wonder if using a thermal bag like that would help prevent ice crystals from forming in the ice cream, that’s the only complaint that I have about the last Turkey Hill ice cream I bought, maybe it was out of date?
June 30th, 2007 at 4:00 amgreat idea
June 30th, 2007 at 12:49 amI have several insulated bags from Market Day and Wawa. I have no idea how I managed without them. They are pure essentials for summer shopping and do a great job keeping frozen items frozen!!
June 30th, 2007 at 12:38 amThat bag looks really huge. I have some frozen food bags, but its difficult to close with just two containers of Turkey Hill. The larger bag would be great. We go through about three 56oz containers a week in our home - so I am forever buying TH Icecream (the light version). The new flavors really rock!!
June 30th, 2007 at 12:27 amYummy stuff !
June 30th, 2007 at 12:18 amJust thinking about having some Turkey Hill ice cream pretty much brings a smile to my mouth - thanks for a delicious treat !
June 30th, 2007 at 12:10 amI have two insulated bags. Making the ice cream, the treasured purchases of the day. Can never have too many of either! Mini cones for the neighbor kids make me the darie queen!
June 30th, 2007 at 12:00 amCooler bag is a great thing when bringing in ice cream treats to school, or the beach. It keeps ice cream just cold enough to make the trip before serving.
June 29th, 2007 at 11:46 pmdo like do mix two or three flavors and make your own turkey hill magic
June 29th, 2007 at 10:47 pmTurkey Hill Chocolate/Peanut Butter is the greatest, and this insulated bag would be wonderful to get it home before it starts to melt. It takes me 45 minutes from grocery store to home, and in 90 degree weather..not always nice. The new bag also is great for the environment…..no more paper or plastic! Terrific idea!
June 29th, 2007 at 10:31 pmsister in law has one like this. she goes about 55 miles one way to shop and she says that it works.
June 29th, 2007 at 6:57 pmHi I live in Canada & feel in love with your ice cream. Sure would be great to have 1 of though bags. then I could bring home a lot of flavors
June 29th, 2007 at 5:44 pmThe way we buy Turkey Hill Ice Cream I would need all three of the bags. Our freezer always has about 6 in it. Sometimes we have about 9 and it is only the 2 of us here. So you know we love Turkey Hill. I am always promoting it to my friends and in the grocery store and sometimes get into discussions saying Turkey Hill is the best of all ice creams.
June 29th, 2007 at 5:20 pmThank you for making the best.
we all need one of those bags!!!!!
June 29th, 2007 at 5:02 pmThis sure sounds like a great product. Where can I get one. Would love to have this for my van = you know you go to the store and then need to go someplace else but can’t because the ice cream will melt. Thanks
June 29th, 2007 at 4:51 pmWe are a Turkey Hill three-tub family, so a cooler bag to get it home to the freezer would be quite handy! Kids love the traditional Neapolitan because there’s something for everyone. Chocolate for my 8 yr old son, vanilla for my 6 yr old daughter and “pink” (strawberry) for the baby. Mother-in-law loves the “No-sugar-added” varieties because she’s diabetic. We’re partial to Tin Roof Sundae, although that Tastykake Peanutbutter Kandy Kake sounds intriguing!
June 29th, 2007 at 4:50 pmThe bag is a great idea for instore shopping. We keep an Omaha Steak shipping cooler in the trunk of our car to put frozen foods in to drive home from the store. It has really no weight
June 29th, 2007 at 4:49 pmWhere was “Rum Raisin” on your survey? That’s got to be the best I’ve had - and I’m a long-time Rum Raisin fan.
June 29th, 2007 at 4:17 pmSummer!!Great time of year for ice cream and Turkey Hill is the best tasting. We love the Chocolate Pretzel flavor.
June 29th, 2007 at 4:14 pmGood idea, especially for waiting in the(sometimes) long checkout lines.
June 29th, 2007 at 4:13 pmHope this has the Turkey Hill logo on it so people can tell who buys the best ice cream around.
June 29th, 2007 at 3:27 pmI work in a supermarket and live a half hour away from work, so this bag will come in handy when I take home my Turkey Hill Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream
June 29th, 2007 at 3:25 pmThat bag looks great. As a retired teacher, I would have passed that information on to my students, but now I will pass it on to my grandchildren. A great economic idea!
June 29th, 2007 at 3:24 pmYesterday it was 94 degrees. I raced home with my Strawberries and Cream. When I got home the ice cream was just right….soft and smooth. I had a party with the container before I put anything else away!! that is the way to enjoy the heat. Turkey Hill and me, perfect together!
June 29th, 2007 at 3:22 pmNothing like good Vanilla and Choclate ice cream, but where is it on the voting survey?
June 29th, 2007 at 3:15 pmLove your Turkey Hill Ice Cream and wish I could get more of the vanilla/peanut butter swirl. Everyone in my City must love that flavor, cause its the one flavor that always disappears first.
June 29th, 2007 at 3:02 pmTHE BAG IS A GREAT IDEA BECAUSE UNFORTUNATELY WE SOMETIMES HAVE TO WAIT UP TO 10 MINUTES TO GET THRU THE CASHIER LINES AT OUR STORE. aD THE TRIP HOME AND WE’RE TALKING JUST OVER HALF HOUR. NEEDLESS TO SAY OUR TURKEY HILL IS ALMOST TURKEY SOUP………….THANKS FOR TELLING US ABOUT THE BAG
June 29th, 2007 at 2:36 pmI especially like to make an ice cream sandwich with the mint chocolate chip ice cream between 2 chocolate chip cookies..WOW!
June 29th, 2007 at 2:36 pmThis would be a great way to get our ice cream home and not be melting in the hot car. I love your black cherry ice cream
June 29th, 2007 at 2:25 pmLove that turkey Hill ice cream. All flavors. Should not have gone to this web site because now I am hungrey. Still looking for cinnamon. Oh, the cows are also a favorite of ours.
June 29th, 2007 at 1:55 pmThis is a great bag idea, hope I get to win one with this blog. I hate to have to rush ice cream in the freezer after grocery shopping, and usually it is softened before I get it there.
June 29th, 2007 at 1:31 pmCOOL !
June 29th, 2007 at 1:26 pmYou’ll all be happy to know that we just ordered five of these bags to give away next week. We normally select winners from ALL comments left on the blog throughout the month, but for this prize we’ll give two away to comments left on other June posts and save THREE bags to give away JUST to comments on this post. GOOD LUCK!
June 29th, 2007 at 1:17 pmCOOL BAG!! We love Peanut Butter Paradise (among others) and this would be a great way to get it home and not be melting from the hot car. We can eat it as soon as we get home and not have to put it in the freezer to harden.
June 29th, 2007 at 12:35 pmI hate it when I am at the store and know I have errands to run that will take a couple of hours and am dying to get some ice cream. Now I can do everything!
June 29th, 2007 at 12:27 pmI love the new duettos. I just bought the cherry/vanilla last night at Giant and had some after dinner. It was excellent. I was torn between the cherry and lemon. Guess I will have to try the lemon now also!
June 29th, 2007 at 12:25 pmThe cooler bag would be great. It would help in those times when I have to make a quick stop at another store before going home. We love your Philadelphia Turkey HIll.
June 29th, 2007 at 12:21 pmWhat a fabulous idea! I just wish I’d had one when I went shopping yesterday (in 90 degree heat and A/C not working in my car), and passed on buying ice cream, ’cause I didn’t think I’d get it home! Great for the environment, too - fabulous!
June 29th, 2007 at 12:14 pmGreat item to keep in the car for those spur of the “ice cream” moments wherever you are!!!!
June 29th, 2007 at 12:12 pmwow, how neat. I really need one of these. I bought a new “grand ma mobile”. A chrysler Pacifica . I needed a larger car to hold my 3 grand children and it is all open. this bag would keep my ice cream frozen till I get home from the gracery store.
June 29th, 2007 at 12:02 pmGreat Idea, I hate refrozen ice
June 29th, 2007 at 11:52 amcream. This bag looks like the ticket. Much better than a simple papper bag.
This is a great idea, one of our local supermarkets has also started selling re-usable canvas grocery bags, and those combined with an insulated tote would not only be useful but better for the environment.
June 29th, 2007 at 11:42 amThis is truly an idea of the millenium! There is always concerns about icecream melting quickly. Kudos to you!
June 29th, 2007 at 11:39 amThere are many times when I am out that we could use something like the toteto keep things cold until we get home.
June 29th, 2007 at 11:38 amWhat an idea of the millenium! There is always concern of icecream melting. Koodos to you!
June 29th, 2007 at 11:38 amWhat an idea of the millenium! There is always concern about icecream melting! Koodos to you!
June 29th, 2007 at 11:35 amEconomically sound! I love it! I have grocery sacks that are fabric I use when I shop. But the idea of a reusable bag for cold items is great. Reuse, Recycle, and Reduce to save our planet.
June 29th, 2007 at 11:32 amgreat idea. worse than solid containers getting soft on trip home is when the ice cream treats start thawing
June 29th, 2007 at 11:19 amI love that bag! I have 4 kids and they all like different flavors, so I am always buying ice cream. Peanut butter cup is MY favorite!
June 29th, 2007 at 10:39 amGreat idea! My SUV gets steaming hot while shopping. This bag prevents ‘melt-downs’ while driving home. HOORAY!!!!!
June 29th, 2007 at 10:38 amI wish Turkey Hill ice cream was more readily available down at the Jersey Shore.
June 29th, 2007 at 10:32 amWhat an awesome invention! It is so sad to get home and find you’ve got ice cream “soup” and not the cool treat you were craving.
June 29th, 2007 at 10:26 amI use to bring a cooler when grocery shopping to put all my frozen foods in. This bag will be easier to manage and I will be able to bring into the store for loading. What an awesome idea!
June 29th, 2007 at 10:25 amI recently was told I have to cut down on sugar. I tried your No Sugar Added Dutch Chocolate and love it. Unfortunately, the only choices at the A&P by my home where Chocoate or Vanila. Are there other No Sugar Added Flavors available?
June 29th, 2007 at 10:22 amWhat a COOL bag to keep my Vanilla fat free COOL!
June 29th, 2007 at 10:19 amGreat idea to transport that delicious Turkey Hill ice cream from the store to home. We love your ice cream and the “no sugar added” is really good.
June 29th, 2007 at 10:18 amGreat idea! Could use one of those.
June 29th, 2007 at 10:17 amGreat idea! I live 10+ miles from nearest store…. in this heat bringing home the Low Carb or Sugar-Free ice cream usually results in ‘re-frozen crystals’.
June 29th, 2007 at 10:13 amWOW this is great, gets my ice cream home with little melting yet I am also doing something for the environment!! Thats for me!!
June 29th, 2007 at 10:03 amSince moving to North Carolina 2 years ago, I can’t get my FAVORITE ice cream flavor anymore-Chocolate Marshmallow— since Turkey Hill isn’t sold anywhere in the Charlotte area. HELP!! Please somehow get some to the food stores ASAP! Thank you!
June 29th, 2007 at 9:58 amMy son, who is diabetic, loves your “no sugar added” ice cream. He has tried other brands and says Turkey Hill is the best tasting and creamier than the other brands. Good idea to use a cooler bag for bringing home your ice cream purchases especially during this hot weather.
June 29th, 2007 at 9:24 amI LOVE Turkey Hill ice cream. Just tried the Creamy Commotions in Strawberry Cheesecake & it’s out of this world…the very BEST! I can not watch my waistline with this kind of stuff readily available to me. Keep up the good work.
June 26th, 2007 at 10:52 amThis sounds great - I have similar cooler bags, but this one sounds like it’s a lot better insulated and stronger. Thanks for the tip!
June 25th, 2007 at 11:09 pmThink the bag is a great idea. Not only saves your ice cream but also the environment!!!
June 25th, 2007 at 5:51 pmI think this is a great idea! We don’t have to travel very far to the grocery store, but ice cream melting is always a concern.
Thanks so much for telling me about this!
June 11th, 2007 at 5:32 pmI just brought a huge cooler full of Turkey Hill home from Staunton, VA on Saturday- about 4 hours. It all held up well- 30 lbs. of ice and placed each container in a ziploc freezer bag.
June 11th, 2007 at 2:56 pmWow! An ice cream tote for the grocery store! That is totally awesome!
June 6th, 2007 at 12:01 pmgood idea! I always worry about ice cream melting before I get it home. Usually I wait until I’ve got all my grocerys and then I get the ice cream last, but sometimes I forget to go back and get the ice cream! Or, if it melts a little bit on the way home, it’s too soft when I want some a few hours later. I definitely need one of these bags.
