Just a quick reminder to everyone that in the midst of National Ice Cream Month is yet another reason to celebrate ice cream. That reason, of course, is National Ice Cream Day and that glorious day is this Sunday, July 15th.
We’re not sure if this will create a frenzy in the ice cream aisle at your local grocery store, causing all the ice cream to be sold out by Saturday afternoon. Still, you might not want to take any chances. If you’re not already stocked up on Moose Tracks and Cherry Duetto, now might be the time to do it. We’re just kidding of course, but if people rush to the store for milk and bread when a storm approaches, why wouldn’t they do the same for National Ice Cream Day?
With that, we thought we’d offer a few tips for how to celebrate National Ice Cream Day in style:
- Have ice cream for breakfast (if there’s one day of the year when you can do that, it’s this Sunday)
- Go to a baseball game and eat ice cream out of one of those minature helmets
- Have ice cream for lunch
- Prepare a dessert or meal using ice cream as an ingredient (recipes here)
- Pay a visit to your local ice cream stand and order a sundae with extra whipped cream and chocolate fudge or a triple scoop cone with three different flavors
- Make ice cream at home with a tin can
- Have ice cream for dinner (or a milkshake with your dinner)
- Watch your favorite movie with friends and family while eating ice cream (or while eating the ice cream dessert you made earlier)
The possibilties are endless. If we’re missing anything, or if you have any suggestions of your own for how to celebrate National Ice Cream Day, just let us know!

Simply Stated, whats not to like
one of my favorite childhood memories is vanilla ice cream and a fresh cantalope for breakfast. It is a tradition I’ve carried on to my family.
how refreshing on a 90 degree humid morning.
I’m happy to read about all the other folks who eat ice cream for breakfast. I have let my kids eat ice cream for breakfast a couple of times – on school days, no less! They’ve gone to bed the night before looking forward to breakfast and it is not a problem waking them up in the morning! I figured it’s dairy, and has only a bit more sugar than the cereals out there. We remember it as something fun! I agree w/the person who mentioned hot oatmeal w/a scoop of ice cream on it – yummy! whether summer or winter!
Turkey Hill’s ice cream is the greatest. My wife loves Butter Pecan and I love Party Cake. No other companies ice cream can compare to Turkey Hill’s. We have tried a few other’s, when on sale, but we throw out theirs and always get Turkey Hill’s Ice Cream.
We love Turkey Hill vanilla bean in root beer soda………..takes us back in time and now our children follow the tradition……coupons wouldn’t hurt!!!
My birthday was yesterday – National Ice Cream Day – but I didn’t have ice cream for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I did however have my nightly mug (I NEVER MISS IT) and enjoyed it knowing that my day was also National Ice Cream Day and for a true ice cream lover it was quite fitting. I eat more ice cream than other other food item
Ice cream on oatmeal sounds awesome. Happy Ice Cream Day to all the ice cream lovers out there. There is nothing else that tastes so good and makes me happy. Thanks for all the Turkey Hill flavors!
I feel good that I’m not the only one eating ice-cream for breakfast. In third grade we were talking a healthy breakfast and we all needed to say what we had for breakfast. I said, “strawberry ice-cream with rainbow sprinkles.” I got a lot of stares and plenty of people saying that you cannot eat ice- cream for breakfast. I thought that it was totally normal to eat ice-cream for breakfast. I bet that all the third graders in my class asked there moms if they could have ice-cream for breakfast the next morning!
Turkey Hill Ice Cream Sandwiches go like HOT Cakes in our house!!!!
I celebrate ice cream day every day. When I set out to lose 100 lbs., I feared most losing my daily fix of ice cream. No more fancy ice cream. I steadied myself to endure low fat, no sugar added, etc. And frozen yogurt? Must be yucky. So after losing 113 pounds and learning that alternatives are good and tasty, I continue my nutritious choices. Sure I miss the specials and some old favorites, but my healthy feeling is worth it. Guess what my favorite flavor is. Chocolate Cherry Cordial and it’s YOGURT, imagine that!
WOW! Congratulations Janis. We’re glad to hear that you are still able to find a way to reward yourself with ice cream and frozen yogurt.
Our own Ernie (of “Ask Ernie” fame) recently lost over 40 pounds and he’s our official ice cream taster who still enjoys his favorite ice cream at home. A lot of people are hesitant to give light ice cream a chance, but once they taste it they’re usually surprised about how great it is.
Speaking of our Light Recipe flavors, try our Extreme Cookies and Cream. After you try that, you can say goodbye to any misconceptions you may have had about light ice cream!
I’m with Janis! Chocolate Cherry Cordial ROCKS! I started buying it in an attempt to eat healthier and lose weight (lost about 60 overall!), and soon forgot that it was fat free; it was THAT good. The best part is, I generally get to eat it all myself, as my husband’s more of a mint cookies ‘n cream kind of a guy.
National Ice Cream Month is a great excuse to eat ice cream every day! We love Turkey Hill all natural vanilla.
Try a Cherry Vanilla Ice Cream Soda:
Mash frozen or fresh cherries in the bottom of a cup with a little bit of sugar and lime juice. Add half a glass of seltzer or lemon lime soda. Add a scoop of Turkey Hill All Natural Vanilla. Fill the cup with the seltzer or soda. Top with whipped cream.
It is delicious!!
tried the dreamcicle ice cream pie.
Delicious.
joan w,
LILKED THE DREAMCYCIL ICE CREAM PIE. DELICIOUS.
I just love crazy ice cream desserts. I think that’s why I enjoy the Duettos so much… it’s like having a frozen smoothie in your freezer ready-to-go with no effort involved! When I’m short on time.. Hooray — Turkey Hill to the rescue!
