You're (well, okay, the barn or whoever painted it) right- Ice cream = happiness!! I am never truly happy without ice cream.
Except Rita's. That comes in second, especially if it's a gelati. Both are great!!
Sue, I think I know the answer, but I'm not sure. The Amish probably forbid advertising on their barns. Double check that to be positive, but that's probably at least close.

Especially in summertime, there's almost no better dessert than ice cream! When it comes from Turkey Hill, you can guarantee that it's going to be creamy and rich with a full-flavor, and you'd never guess it was so inexpensive and easy to find!

I live by that motto. I often want to skip dinner so I can just get to my ice cream. One of my favorite parts of the day.

Since you guys are doing such a great job of saving the farms in Lancaster,, why don't you bring back the art of painting advertising on the barns again? I loved seeing those ads on the sides of barns when we took road trips,, they were great! You see very few of them now days

and I was told to eat an apple a day but that was to keep the doctor away.

I like this advice better.

I'm from the old advertising advice:

"baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and ..."
but my apple pie always included ice cream, then I was happy.

It was several years back when my city bought a old house. They wanted to make a parking lot for city vehicles on the lot. When the house was being torn down they found old advertising under the siding. They knew enough not to destroy the old 'folk art.' It advertised bread for 5 cents and some other grocery items. It was carefully cut down in one huge section. Someone told me it was sold to a collector for $10,000. I don't know if that's true. Quite a few people wanted it so... maybe . I wish I would of taken some photos. It was so awesome!

Today's paper had an article about the demise of these old barns because of the high upkeep to repair them and thir usefulness has decreased. My favorite as a child on auto trips were those "Burma-Shave" signs on the side of the road. Too bad they can't put them on the interstates for the current generation to see. Maybe you know a few with "Ice Cream" which I don't remember seeing.
