Ernie was featured on Monday in the Philadelphia Inquirer. The article opens with “Meet the luckiest man in the world.” It goes on to ask Ernie a series of questions about Turkey Hill and his job as an ice cream tester, including the downsides of being an ice cream tester and some of the flavors currently being developed. Feel free to check out the article here.
By the way, it’s still early, but so far in this month’s poll roughly 80 PERCENT of you admit to sharing ice cream with your pet. That’s way more than we anticipated. Maybe we’ll have to create a pet-friendly flavor soon…like Bacon & Cheese Duetto.
(UPDATE: Since we posted this entry, the poll number has dipped to around 70 percent. What happened? Was it our mention of Bacon & Cheese Duetto? Sorry about that.)

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
Bacon & Cheese Duetto sounds great. I might even eat that.
When Ernie retires, I’d like to be considered for his job!!! Couldn’t think of anything better to do all day!
Yeah Lucy, that’s a great idea.
I don’t know about Bacon & Cheese Duetto….
I think it was just a bunch of people who don’t feed their pets ice cream, not the mention of Bacon & Cheese Duetto.
i think bacon & cheese duetto would be quite different…..
Bacon and cheese duetts doesn’t sound great to me; need the sugar! Love strawberry cheese cake; that’s cheese!
A few years back (in a land far, far away, where there was no Turkey Hill…) my family and I would occasionally go out for ice cream cones, as a treat. The catch was that we could not bring them home if we didn’t bring an extra one for the dog! Otherwise, we couldn’t stand the guilt as we sat around licking our ice cream cones and he would sit right in front of each one of us with those pleading hungry eyes!!!
Wow it’s humid in NY. Eating lots of Turkey Hill Ice Cream.
Pets eating ice cream reminds me of my old neighborhood, only 7 years ago. There were three families, we got together every few nights after dinner and walked two blocks to the local ice cream shop, and they sold T. Hill brand. It was Uncle Joe’s, now is called Rainbow Snow, anyway, the group was 4 adults, 6 to 8 children, all under the age of 10, and one HUGE black Newfoundland dog! The employees knew our group, and had a dog bisquit ready for BEAR, the dog, and he got all the spills from the kids ice cream, and there usually was a lot!
He was one happy dog!
Wow Ernie has the best job on the planet. Imagine getting paid to eat Turkey Hill? Wow, I am jealous. What is the craziest ice cream flavor you have ever tried?
Congratulations Ernie! You do have the best job on this earth. I’m sur you’ll be giving out you autograph soon! But bacon & cheese Duetto, no way. That’s gross. Ice cream should be flavorful and sweet, bacon & cheese belongs on a baked potato or broccoli!!!
Oops, sorry for the 2 words I spelled wrong! Go Turkey Hill!!!!!
Ernie has the most amazing job. I can’t wait to see what the new flavors will be. I can’t lie, I had some of my light chocolate chip for breakfast for the last 3 morning’s and I have to say at 5:45 a.m. life can only turn wonderful with ice cream. It may sound crazy, but I am in such a great mood going in to work, it’s cooler than coffee and doesn’t give you that crazy sugar drop mid morning.
As far as Doggie ice cream, we usually go through the drive through Ice cream place that serves a puppy cup: vanilla soft serve with a dog bone on top. What if A flavor was created with little dog bone’s in the mix? I’m sure it would be a hit with all the pup’s out there!!
I don’t think you need to do Bacon & Cheese duetto,,,, All the pets I have ever had, liked the same flavors of ice cream as we do,, they’re not picky at all!
I dont think that vets will approve of having specific flavors for animals.
I just think that vanilla is just fine for my cats.
