RECIPE: MOCHA FRAPPE
Posted by: Turkey Hill Team
If you need another reason to enjoy some ice cream this weekend (if you’re like us you don’t, but you’ll take any excuse you can get), then you’ll be happy to know that Sunday, October 7 is National Frappe Day. A frappe is basically a milkshake-like drink using ice cream, coffee and some added flavorings. We like coffee in the morning and ice cream in the evening, so this might be a nice comprimise around lunchtime.
Below is a simple frappe recipe we found. Of course, this is just one of many, so feel free to poke around the internet for others.
MOCHA FRAPPE
INGREDIENTS
- 4 cups chilled coffee
- 4 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 4 tbsp chocolate milk (a tbsp or two of chocolate powder might work as well)
DIRECTIONS
Pour chilled coffee, milk, and instant chocolate milk powder into a blender. Mix together. Add whipped cream and ice cream, and blend together at ‘frappe’ setting. Pour into a coffee mug. Garnish with whipped cream, nutmeg, cinnamon, or chocolate shavings.

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.

Good recipe! All summer I did milk shakes using nonfat Turkey Hill, either Neapolitan, so that I could make chocolate, vanilla or strawberry shakes, or the vanilla fudge which is also yummy. A great way to get calcium and I loved it as a way to drink either one percent or fat free milk. But adding coffee seems like a great idea.
October 24th, 2007 at 6:32 amI love coffee and ice cream.
October 9th, 2007 at 12:37 pmmost flavors mix well and this is another great example of using them together.
thanks
KELLY D - Hope all is well now. Glad to hear that you’re back home!
ARTEMIS - You’ve got the right idea! This has coffee in it, which technically makes it okay to drink for breakfast, right?
October 9th, 2007 at 12:28 pmWow what a great combination of the delicious taste of Turkey Hill and coffee. This beats Starbucks, hands down. Thanks for the great recipe!
October 7th, 2007 at 5:55 pmI agree with Caroline. I’m not a coffee drinker either. I would NEVER think of mixing it with my beloved Turkey Hill ice cream. I even got my daughter-in-law hooked on it, infact she was your monthly winner!
October 6th, 2007 at 9:49 pmThis is one I will pass on since I never liked coffee. Even my nutty husband would pass on this. He loves his coffee and can drink a pot a day but does not like coffee flavor candy, ice cream, etc. It might be from his army days, college days or work days drinking plain coffee at his desk.
October 6th, 2007 at 9:35 amI am going to try this frappe! Sounds yummy! Keep the recipes coming!
October 5th, 2007 at 7:30 pmI think I’ll have one of these tonight while I’m watching the Tribe beat the Yankees again. Cleveland in 5!!

October 5th, 2007 at 10:08 amhey there, been away for a while and really missed a lot!! I was in the hospital, and let me tell you I MISSED my T Hill ice cream something terrible. I had to have my family bring me some in an insulated coffee mug from home, could’ve used that bowl!! Good to be back home with my favorite flavors in my own freezer
October 5th, 2007 at 10:05 amThis is definitely one of those “special occasion” treats, or a “reward for doing something good” treat. I’m not much of a chocolate fiend, but it certainly gives me an experiment idea for my current favorite Limited Edition Baked Apple Dumpling ice cream and some cinnamon apple cider….
