AMERICANS REALLY LOVE ICE CREAM

Posted by: Turkey Hill Team

Of course you knew that. But you might not have known that the United States is number two worldwide in per capita ice cream consumption. That’s right, we’re second. The good news is, we’re waaaay behind the number one country. That’s good news because if we want to take over the top spot, we’ll all need to eat a lot more ice cream to get there.

Below is a list of the top ice cream eating countries. Take note: we really should be watching out for Australia.

COUNTRY    LITERS PER CAPITA

New Zealand     26.3
United States    18.7
Australia            17.8
Finland               13.9
Sweden              11.9
Canada                 9.5
Italy                      9.2
Ireland                 9.0
Denmark              8.7
United Kingdom  7.7

TODAY’S PRIZE: Two fun ice cream magnets (a soft serve cone and an ice cream sundae). Stick ‘em on your fridge. Stick ‘em on your car. Stick ‘em wherever they’ll stick. Except for the neighbors’ car…unless they really like ice cream.

Her kitchen was set up like a general store, and she even had penny candy. She provided the pennies too! But for the older people there, it was quite a treat they ordered from the counter just like they did when they were kids. The younger people just giggled and made their own sundaes. I can literally count on one hand the number of days in the past 12 years at least the number of days I’ve NOT had a mug of ice cream at night and most of those were the births of my children.

If everyone ate as much ice cream as I do I’m sure we’d be well past New Zealand.

I want to thank Turkey Hill for being so great to all the children and donating ice cream to the 2 Children homes in my area.Thank you so much. You have group of great folks there. We still eat it all the time and look forward to new flavors. We always tell people to try Turkry Hill. If I see someone in store trying to decide what ice cream to buy I tell them about Turkey Hill and if I have an extra coupon I offer it just to help them along with their choice of ice cream.Thank you again.

I’m surprised not to find my onetime home of Jamaica in the top 10–based on my fond Foreign Service memories (from the 1980s), when my now-brother-in-law’s British mother made the best soursop ice cream I’ve ever tasted (among many local flavors, I regret to say, that never seemed to thrive elsewhere)–”Bunty” (Ursula) later sold the business but the memories certainly survive! If you include gelato, etc., are the percentages per capita still the same? No need to respond, just thought that made Italy higher on the list.

Just DON’T put the magnets on a friend’s computer! They’d be fun on a refrigerator though.

Considering that both New Zealand and Australia are warm weather climates, I think that the USA does well to place in the top three — especially with all of this wintry weather we’ve been having in the Northeast! Those 25 degree temperatures don’t stop us in Boston from eating our fair share of Turkey Hill!
