This photo of our Giant Swirly Cow was snapped by a quick-thinking passerby during our visit to Buffalo earlier this year (thanks to tonyolm over on Flickr for letting us use this shot). She actually looks somewhat less imposing with those building jutting up behind her. Still, she greeted the citizens of Buffalo with her head held high, because even though the city’s architecture may have dwarfed her, she was still the only giant red and white cow Buffalo had ever seen.

TODAY’S PRIZE: Today’s gift is a children’s book titled, “Ice Cream: The Full Scoop.” According to the description, this book “delivers the scoop on ice cream history, ingredients, innovations, and the mechanics of its small- and large-scale production.” Even though it’s a children’s book, we’re pretty sure you’ll want to read it yourself before giving it away as a gift.

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
Wow, I love the colors and design on the cow! It definitely evokes images of creamy ice cream.
Elvis Presley is said to have loved ice cream – apparently his favorites were chocolate milkshakes and FULL SCOOPS of peach ice cream.
I love cows. They look so peaceful. Someday i’m gonna have a place were I can have cows in my front yard. Maybe near the Turkey Hill Farm. Then my cow can visit your cow.
I would love for swirly cow to visit me!
I have never had a bad product from Turkey Hill. They are all good.
My whole family loves Turkey Hill Ice Cream. The picture is cute and nope i don’t want one of those to be in my yard. LOL
Gail Gibbons is a great children’s author and Turkey Hill is great ice cream!
cute cow! She can visit me any time!
Nice to see Buffalo getting some love. Love from giant cows.
We’d like a book about ice cream! Could be the bedtime story every night! What could bring sweeter dreams??!
A very MOOving picture of downtown Buffalo
I don’t know if I could get used to seeing a “red and white” cow in my yard.
However, I am very used to enjoying Turkey Hill Ice Cream just about every day.
Thanks for such wonderful products!
I would love to have that cow visit out little burb here. It would really brighten up the scenery.
Love the cow. Love Turkey Hill ice cream.
What a great colorful picture. My favorite color is red so I would love this cow in my yard!!!
Great shot. Also the book sound very intresting.
Love the photo of the cow in Buffalo.
I love that cow….i would follow it anywhere…that ice cream is my fav.
If only the milk comes out in the flavor of the color of the cow!
If I’d win the book, I wouldn’t give it as a gift; I’d want it for myself!
ps: I love the cow.
I took a submarine to Buffalo but never a cow, that has to be a first
My 2 1/2 year old would love to ride that cow
I love the cow. It looks similar to the cows that used ot be all over New York.
I love the Giant Cow. I wish it would come down South!
With 3 young children we’d love a kids ice cream book. We’d LOVE a years supply of ice cream even more.
Boy would that cow brighten up my yard. Would give my grandaughter something to play on while we enjoyed some yummy ice cream.
Does the cow have a tour schedule?
The Cow Parade has been in West Hartford, CT, but don’t recall seeing the Giant Swirly Cow…. reminds me of the raspberry Duetto, yumm
Love the colors in the Turkey Hill cow..looks like a Duetto…our friend’s son did a cow for Boston some years ago so we do favor the cow.
cute cow
Cherry Duetto is my favorite! My husband buys it in the small container – I don’t know why because it’s gone in two days!
My granddaughter would love the book and the cow
like the cow
my wife loves cows, she would love to have one in the yard, the book sounds interesting also
This cow can visit my town any day!!!
We’d love to meet him or her!!!
Dang… my cows are just black. I doubt they’d ever want to go to Buffalo anyway.
I remember when they invaded New York.
I made it my “quest” to see each and
every one of them. Cows rule! Their
milk rules! And, ice cream rules the
universe!
Being from South Eastern PA, I’m used to seeing cows everywhere. Wish there were cows like this one around here. Looks kinda Christmasy…
Being from Syracuse, I love that part of New York. Some think it’s too cold there to enjoy a big cold bowl of ice cream in the winter. Nonsense, it’s just easier to get it home without it melting. Nature’s perfect shopping atmosphere.
That cow in the picture reminds me of your Duetto flavors. They are delicious, especially the raspberry.
What does one have to do, exactly, to get a giant cow for the yard? Trade away their magic beans?
I just love the cow! He needs to visit my town
This cow is so cool. I also love the one in harrisburg at the farm show every year. We all love all of turkey hill products.
as kids we were told that chocolate milk came from chocolate cows. that’s what Bo reminds me of.
we need more children’s books about ice cream-there is nothing more important than ice cream to pass on to future generations-imagine if every child in the world had all the ice cream they could possibly eat-what a wonderful world-I hope they would give some to the adults-especially those cranky politicians!
Great looking cow! Reminds me of downtown Chicago and all the painted bulls everywhere.
a great conversation piece to say the least…just think, it could be the opening for a great outside picnic complete with turkey hill for dessert. i’d love to have a cow like bessie in my front yard!
Call me crazy, but…
I think that cow was eyeballing me!
Love your cow! I am stopping by there to get a pic when I travel.
The Turkey Hill Cow in BUFFALO??? wow – that is where i grew up – where is the snow???? isn’t there always snow in BUFFALO???
No, there isn’t ALWAYS snow in Buffalo! I’m sorry I missed the Turkey Hill cow’s visit. I hope you return to Buffalo soon, during one of our glorious Summers on Lake Erie!!!
I love when businesses design the big cows with their logos. I always find them so fascinating!
Maybe y’all can visit Rochester (NY) sometime with the big cow!
The children’s book that you are giving away today looks adorable. That would make for a fun read while eating Turkey Hill ice cream!
I am eating my chocolate cherry cordial right now !
I know the picture was not taken in the winter. With the lake effect snow it would have been buried up to its ears.
The Duette Ice Cream is so good!
Nice looking cow—go Browns
Moo.
The book sounds a lot better than the battery-powered ice-cream cone….
I’m from Buffalo, and while I may find a few bisons roaming around, this is the first city cow I’ve seen.
How about an entire cow parade of Turkey Hill flavors?
I really did not realize that you went as far as Buffalo
It is sad that there is NOT snow in Buffalo year round it would make bringing home Turkey hill products easier from April – November when it is too Hot out. Love the pic of Buffalo City Hall and the Duetto cow a wonderful reinder of the day she was here! She does fit in even in minature the cow is semi-art deco
love the cherry Duetto!! Cute cow, I would love to see it parked on the front lawn of my high school!!
my friend’s daughter lives in Buffalo. I will have to send her this photo and story. maybe she saw this delicious cow too.
MOO
I love duette. Especially cherry. That cow can come to work with me anytime.
wow. where can i get one
I have seen the cow in person and it is awesome. Love the Duetto icecream, too. My grandson asks for Duetto every time he visits.
The book would wonderful for a child to learn about Ice Cream!!
The cow reminds me of the ones they had in Harrisburg, Pa a few years back….all painted differently….really neat !!!
I’d like coffee frozen yogurt with chocolate swirl! Yummmy!
Love that cow. Love Turkey HILL Icecream
Yummy
I loved the flavor of the sworled ice cream from Turkey Hill. The best taste around. Love it!!!
Great cow photo! That’s a book that would give you sweet dreams!
Since both my hubby and I love ice cream (of course Turkey Hill being the best), we expect our baby-to-be will too. Just thinking about ice cream seems to cause elbows and feet to move! It’s good to know that the cows get to travel to interesting places – everyone deserves fun road trips, even red and white swirly cows!
That is a moooooving photo!
Since ice cream is my favorite food, it would be fun to read all about it. I’d even put a cow like that in my front yard if I could!
Great cow!!! I love cows…they have the neatest faces…
That is a great picture!
Nice cow. Wish one like that would visit our town. Our town stores sell Turkey Hill ice cream, so why not?
I love cows, what a neat image, my children love It, oh yeah your vanilla bean is awesome.
This cow in Buffalo needs a winter hat with small red and green tinsel ornaments covering the head with ears sticking out and a red abd white blanket and red sox to feel confortable during the Holiday season. Also needs a Christmas cow bell that will clang when the wind blows.

It’s definatly a site you don’t see often, if ever. Wondering why the colors red and white??? I would love to get the Full Scoop on that!
A poolside visit from the Giant Cow decked in Red and White with ice cream during a hot July day would surely be Christmas in July treat for our relatives and neighbors!
How about visiting Cleveland sometime?
Love the cow! Nice book too!
Love the cow!
Love the cow.
I like to search the site for the cows flying by…
I wish I could have a cow in my yard, and when I went outside it dispensed Turkey Hill ice cream…
My neighbors don’t like my dogs, I wonder what they would think of my cow?
Yum. An ice cream cow.
I would love to have the cow come to our school in June. The book would be great, too. We could do a whole unit on ice cream–if we used the cow and some samples, maybe we could keep their attention during the last days of the school year:)
I love Turkey Hill coupons.
That is a very “moo-ving” picture; we love cows here.
I’d love to be able to paint a cow!
Heigh Ho! Heigh Ho! Heigh Ho!
Just want to let you know
There was a cat on our back sill
With whom we shared our Turkey Hill
I have a 5 year old who would love that book.
Thank you for a great website. I LOVE Turkey Hill ice cream!!!! (and you have a great looking cow, too)
That is an awesome cow!
take it to the streets
Udderly Moovelous Pic!
tonight i had raspberry and chocolate chunk cold churned light recipe – it was fabulous! I hope the cow isn’t standing in too much snow in Buffalo.
Hey cherry duetto gelati cow…shuffle off to Buffalo.
I want to bring home that cow and put him in garden.
The Turkey Hill cow is bigger than the painted cows in the cow series. I think she’s bigger than my garden. She looked great parked in front of the local elementary school wearing a football helmet. Those of us who live in Lancaster County see her hanging around various places. She brings a great big smile to my face wherever I see her. But I’d rather she go back to her normal colors.
I must say, that is one truly beautiful picture!!!
I’d like to have my picture taken sitting on the cow, reading the book while eating an ice cream cone…..
Does that cow have a name & does she give strawberry flavored milk. I live close to Lancaster and along a very busy highway, I’ll bet that would make the cars take a long look if the cow was in my front yard. Reminds me of Creme Savers Strawberry hard candy. The cow sure does get your attention. Happy MOO, MOO.
Mango duetto is my favorite.
Not so sure about the swirly cow; swirly Ice Cream? yes, Yes, YES!
Cow is cute but the ice cream is killer!
Everybody needs a giant swirly cow in their neighborhood!!!
Children and ice cream .A great combination!
Red and white cow–a great combination of color and product distribution source.
Buffalo!? Its still hard to get Turkey Hill stuff in Pittsburgh, you better tell that cow to come back to Pittsburgh!
My kids would love to see the giant cow. We’ll be on the road soon in Pennsylvania, so maybe we’ll see it!
What a lady in red! A true beauty.
Is her name Duetto?
Colorful cow deserves a bowl of Turkey Hill ice cream…. but then so do I.
It’s the 20th and after looking at this beautiful cow, looking a bit lost in Buffalo, I can only think of Turkey Hills pepperment ice cream. Yum Yum. I’m off to the freezer to have myself a super tasting treat.
Great shot of the red and white cow.Bring on the Turkey — Hill that is
We love ice cream
I like the picture.
I never saw these cows around me but maybe I just missed them. HA!
Cows rule!! Eat more chikin’
Cows are finally capturing the public eye in a positive fashion–Harrisburg, PA, had its Parade of Cows not too long ago–artists competed for best of show, etc. It’s amazing what a little paint and imagination can do! The cows were purchased by individuals as well as companies, the money given to charity, and the landscape has greatly improved!
Hope the swirly cow has a good time on her travels.
Is that cow somehow related to the Target dog?
when is this cow coming to Palmyra PA T. Hill?????
THE COW IS GREAT. A FRIEND SUGGESTED THAT SHE WAS LOOKING FOR PEPPERMINT ICE CREAM BUT COULD NOT FIND IT. I SUGGESTED YOUR EGG NOG/ PEPERMINT. HER RESPONSE WAS NEGATIVE. JUST PEPPERMINT.
What an awesome Picture. I love the angle that it was taken at. You can even see the moom. Hey, maybe the cow could try to JUMP OVER THE MOON! I live in Rochester, next town over – can you stop by?
IT JUST DOESNT GET ANY BETTER THAN TURKEY HILL -ANYTIME ANY FLAVOR
Gail Gibbons is a great children’s author. Usually she does science books, but I think a book on Ice Cream is great.
Love the Cow! I want some Ice Cream for lunch!
I love your swirly cows that go across my computer screen, too
Neat cow! The book sounds interesting. Love your ice cream!
Cool cow! We all love your ice cream!
The colors on the cow look very beautiful. The ice cream also looks like this colors when in the container. The ice cream is creamy and delicious. I like it very much.
I love this cow!!
I’m getting addicted to the ice cream however also this Journal- Is there a new topic everyday?
we love turkey hill
I’d love to see how my dogs would react to having a big cow in the yard. haha. They bark at squirrels and cats but I probably couldn’t get them out of the house with that big thing in the yard.
when spring is sprung and the grass is rizz this is where the ice cream is
That cow looks good enough to eat!!
If the cow was in Buffalo in the winter, maybe it would have automatically produced ice cream … or maybe ice milk.
That’s a terrific picture! I love seeing that cow! It’s come to my college several times since I’ve been a student!
happy holidays
What a beautiful sight! Makes you want to scoop Duetto, right now!! A very pretty Cow! As they say WOW, HOLY COW!!!!
I hope I win something soon. I love ice cream, cows, motorized ice cream cones and Turkey Hill.
I’ll bet Giant Swirly Cow is buried under quite a few inches of snow at this point!
When I was a kid the bad boys put rocks in some of the snow balls. How about a chunk of chocolate in the middle of the ice cream snow ball. A Hershey Kiss would be nice.
That cow can visit me anytime. Love the Duetto cherry gelati.
What a great looking cow!! Doesn’t look anything like the ones in the field beside my house!
I just love Turkey Hill Mint chocolate Chip the best and all the others also.
Yours is the best and my preferred brand. I also love the cows marketing idea. I think the red cow has the slow churned swirl on its side.
The slow smooth churned is by far the best thing since sliced toast and it makes the low fat taste even better.
The sugar free Dutch Chocolate is the best!! Elaine Case
Nice cow!
It’s never too cold for Turkey Hill !!
That cow looks like one of the horses I bet on the other day. But I bet the cow can run faster. T minus 2 hrs and 50 minutes….that’s when I have my nightly bowl of ice cream. One of life’s great traditions.
love the duetto cows! love to mix flavors of duetto, my current fav is cherry and mango together yum.
Let’s hit the bull’s eye.
My favorite colors are Red & White so it’s a cool cow. All you need to do now is milk her and make some Coconut Creme Pie Ice Cream. I’ll love it ! ! ! !
I do not like the Duetto mango and I can’t find the raspberry.
The lemon and the cherry are very good.
Wish the cows I grew up with were that clean
cute cows, wonder if kids think they really look like that?
Great photo!!
Love that cow!!!!!
HOLY COW!!!!!!!!
Love the cow! But your ice cream is better!
I will have to show my grandson..He wanted a cow for Christmas !!!
The cow looks like the cows from our cow parade last year.
My niece would love to have the giant cow visit her. She lives in Hershey,PA. And just loves cows, and she lives on an old farm. She always said she’ll have a cow one day.Time will tell.
Love the photo and love the ice cream!
What a great photo! Thanks for making me smile and makng the best ice cream on the planet! We love turkey hill!
Would it be possible for the cow to visit Farmingdale, New York?
WoW! The cow has a target on the rump!
Love that moo.
I think the cow should come to out town and meet all the BEARS we have all over town. The Bears are really neat and we do have a Turkey Hill in the school district. In fact, at leasts two.
should say 0ur town
Bigger Cows means more ice cream – mmm mmm good
cool cow- great ice cream
If that giant swirly cow ever needs a new home,, I’d love to have her at my house! What an attention getter! lol
That cow is definitely an “attention getter” in the big city. Turkey Hill Ice Cream is the BEST! There is no other brand ice cream in our freezer. Rocky Road and Butter Pecan are my favorite.
Great photo to go with great ice cream!
I’d love to have another book about ice cream, my favorite food!!! Got another half gallon of Egg Nog today. Yummmmmm!
I’M JUST A BIG KID AT HEART AND THAT BOOK SURE SOUNDS GOOD TO ME.
This is much better than a typical black and white cow. A colorful cow can certainly collect comments.
“Cow-tastic”!
Wow – that’s some cow picture? How did it get out of the pasture?
I wonder if this cow’s milk looks just like her!
Best ICE CREAM IN THE WORLD NO JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!Please distribute more varieties in the carolinas, esp. north carolina. I would LOVE to try them ALL! How about a PINT SIZE CONTAINER for those “In one sitting eating”? Thank you
What a GREAT picture. I am originally form Buffalo, but now live in the mountains of PA. Turkey Hill gets around.
The cow is cute. Good color swirls.

It was such a cool cow I had to take it’s picture!
I don’t disagree with this article.
