This is it. The 12th day of ice cream. Thanks to all of you for celebrating the holidays and ice cream with us during these last two weeks. It’s been a lot of fun chatting with everyone!
For all of our new readers, we hope you decide to check in on a regular basis. To help you stay in touch, feel free to sign up on the right to have new Ice Cream Journal entries automatically emailed to you. After today we’ll go back to our normal posting schedule of about three entries per week and, while we won’t give out prizes with every new entry, we will continue our usual tradition of giving away prizes to a few readers at the end of each month.
Speaking of giving things away, the winner of the biggest prize in our 12 Days of Ice Cream celebration will be chosen tomorrow. That’s when we look back on all of the comments left during the 12 Days of Ice Cream celebration and choose one – completely at random – to win the one year’s supply of Turkey Hill ice cream. TODAY’S PRIZE: Some people think we saved the best for last, and maybe we did. What can we say? These aluminum ice cream bowls are just plain cool. They’re admittedly retro, and remind us of something grandma used to have in her cupboard, along with the matching aluminum cups, of course.

Hey, love the picture, it’s pretty trippy. I have an idea for a really cool ice cream flavor: ‘Candy Cain Gingerbread Cookie Dough Ice Cream,’ you could have it available just for the holidays. It would be vanilla ice cream with red swirls in it that would be Candy Cain flavored, with Gingerbread Cookie Dough in it – yummy!

We had the tumblers too. I remember how cold they were when you put ice cubes in them!

These aluminum chalices remind me of the precious vessels we used to receive our local dairy’s finest ice cream in when I was a youth. After a ballgame, there was no better place to go to celebrate youth, America, and baseball than our local dairy. It reminds me of the little cone-shaped water cups on Final Jeopardy. Euclid (Ohio) Race Dairy, where are you now????

I’ve always thought the aluminum dishes were the coolest. My mother did not have any when we were kids but a neighbor did. I used to go over to their house and ask for a drink of water just so I could drink out of an aluminum glass. How funny is that?

These aluminum dishes remind me of ice cream dishes that a neighbor of my mother’s had when we were kids. My neighbor, the late “Aunt Emmy” made the best cookies and pies served with vanilla ice cream. Those were the days!

My grandma had glasses like this, but not bowls & she unfortunatley didn’t have TH ice cream either.
I don’t remember when I first had TH ice cream or when it became common in the markets around here where I live. That would be interesting to find out. Keep the great flavors & quality ice cream etc coming!!

I remember those bowls from when I was a young child. As soon as I saw them it brought back memories of a slower paced and more innocent time. The only problem was the limited flavors of ice cream but then we didn’t know what we were missing!!!

I don’t remember how I first found the Turkey Hill site, but I am sure glad I did! This is my most favorite site,,, it’s the most fun,,informative and you can win prizes too,, what more could anyone ask for?! We too, had the aluminum tumblers when I was young. My Mom might still have them around somewhere,, but I never knew there were other pieces to match. I love those ice cream bowls, they are really cool. If I won them,, they would ONLY be for eating Turkey Hill ice cream out of!

My Mom had the aluminum tumblers. I always wanted to use the purple one (my high school colors were purple and white).
I remember when my Grandmother served us kids ice cream in these bowls. Seems we always ended up fighing over the color bowl we wanted. Sure do miss those fights since we’ve all grown up.

Now that’s what I’m talking about. Very fun dishes that remind me of when I was a kid. We had cups like that. Like I’ve told you in past excerpts, I’m one of 12 and have 6 kids myself. We had a mismosh of all different cups and dishes…nothing matched and we didn’t know any better nor care. I can remember how cold they were when we would drink anything with ice in them. Now all these years later, seeing them, it brought a smile and memories back. I know my siblings would laugh and smile as well. I would prob. break them up and send one to each of my older siblings that needed a laugh. Once again, I’m glad to have signed up for your 12 days of Christmas. Looks like something that would keep a ‘serving size’ of ice cream in check. But, who really follows serving sizes when it comes to ice cream!
The bowls remind me of a set my mother had with matching tumblers. My mother would freeze them. They kept the ice cream, milkshakes and floats cold on a hot summer day.

bowls weren’t of interest to me when my mother made ice cram. I wanted to have the paddle to lick off, especially when she made fresh peach ice cream. Back in the 1930s, I was glad to turn the handle of the ice cream maker in order to get the paddle.

Ice cream is the best food invention. I eat it when I’m happy, depressed, excited, worried, tired, energetic, at home, on a trip, when it’s hot, when it’s cold (outside), with my family, alone, and in any room of the house (really)! The bowls are very nice but I want the year’s supply!!
My girls and I have ice cream just about every nite – no kidding. Its our little family tradition. NO matter what the mood in the house, or the schedule, or who has to be where, we have ice cream in our tried & true ice cream mugs. The “retro” bowls are great.

I remember getting a drink of KoolAid or Funny Face at my neighbor’s house in metal cups. I was really jealous of the neat stuff they had. Everything we used came out of a laundry detergent box. Anyone remember that?
