SECOND SCOOP: WORLD ICE CREAM EATING RECORD

Posted by: Turkey Hill Team

The following  was originally posted here on the Ice Cream Journal back in July, but this record is so amazing, it deserved a second showing.

Did you know that the world record for the most ice cream eaten is held by 22-year-old culinary student Patrick Bertoletti of Chicago, Illinois? On May 26, 2006, he ate 1.75 gallons of vanilla ice cream in 8 minutes during an ice cream eating contest in Brooklyn, New York. It should be noted that Bertolleti is a professional competitive eater whose other eating records include 19 slices of pizza in 10 minutes, 11.1 pounds of shoofly pie in 8 minutes and 177 pickled jalepeno peppers in 15 minutes. For now, we’d be happy with the ice cream title.

Any food no matter what it is should be eaten in moderation to be healthy. But ice cream is a good second helping.

Dani wrote:

Wow — that does sound like the quickest way to the world’s worst brainfreeze. But I guess 177 jalapenos would cancel it out alright. :)

Artemis wrote:

I would not even think of a contest like that Brain freeze!!!

Joseph S. wrote:

I could definitely win the fastest ice cream eater award! Put me to the test!

Susan Curran wrote:

I agree with those who said that ice cream must be eaten slowly and savored-and, if no one is watching, licking the bowl too!

impressive, but did he enjoy it? i really prefer to take my time and savor the flavor to get the most pleasure out of my eating experience.

One of my wishful things I would like to do is eat a container of Chocolate Marshmallow Ice Cream in one sitting. And I am not talking about a pint. It used to be a half gallon, but the size has been lowered.

Susan N. wrote:

What a title to hold hope it was the best weather to eat ice cream in which is any weather at all!

Linda S. wrote:

I’ll bet it was more like a whole body freeze and not just a brain freeze. I hope he was bundled up to keep warm.

Christine wrote:

How does one decide he wants to be professional competitive eater? Those men always amaze me when I see them on TV.

Leonore Abercrombie wrote:

Competative eating….sounds like he comes from a large family and did it so survive….

Iris Hooke wrote:

I had a great uncle who one summer in July ate 13 big bowls of home made ice cream. He was so cold after that much ice cream that the family had to build a fire to thaw him out. This is fact nor fiction.

Joe Garrett wrote:

that man’s stomach has to be churning,
Imagine if he ate all of those on suceeding weekends. And he is a culinary “student”. Would you want to eat at his restaurant?

The only competition that goes on around our house is who gets to stick a spoon into their favorite flavor first!

Janice wrote:

I just realized that the Turkey Hill blog stated that they’ll be Choosing winners NOT Announcing winners on 27 Dec 2007.

I must have had brain freeze.

As sad and embarrassing as I find this this be, I think I could be competitive. My main worry would be the head numbing deal…ouch!

Anne King wrote:

At least he got to eat the best!

Caroline wrote:

I am surprised he was 22. I figured it would have to be a teenager. When my son was in his teens I am sure he could have eaten more and still stay thin as a beanstalk.
I am also surprised at hoe many of us TH fans were up befor 6AM doing this.

Judy wrote:

I enjoy turkey hill ice cream but not to fast. I like it soft so I set it out for a while, sometimes I put the ice cream in the micowave for 10 sec oh so gooooood. How do I find out who won the contest?

Bob Kessler Jr wrote:

I know records are to be broken but Pat can have that one. At least 2 gallons of ice cream in our house lasts more than 8 minutes. He probably didn’t even enjoy the taste. That’s what eating Turkey Hill is all about. The more flavors, the more enjoyable it is.

charity Ickes wrote:

wow

Aimee wrote:

I couldn’t imagine eating 1.75 gallons of COLD icecream in 8 min. what a major brain freeze.

Rolande wrote:

Seeing that this person ate so much ice cream, I sure hope he did not get sick, If he did it must be because it was not Turkey Hill ice cream….

Turkey Hill ice cream has to be eaten slow so you can enjoy every single bite of it..Then you can go for seconds..

The texture is perfect, the taste is perfect, what else can you ask for??

TURKEY HILL ICE CREAM, if you want the above just say the word TURKEY HILL then everything comes to place….
THE BEST. & THE BESTES……..

Darcy F. wrote:

As much as I like ice cream, that’s kind of gross.
And how did he avoid the brain freeze thing????

Dorian Welch wrote:

Ice cream should be savored and enjoyed. Especially on a hot summer day.

Wonder how he trains for the competition, eating gallons every day?

Margaret Morgan wrote:

I thought I went through ice cream fast but never that fast! The downfall to eating that much that quickly is not getting to enjoy the flavor.

That’s disgusting. Sorry guys, I think it should be enjoyed and savored. I think I gave my 1 year old her first brain freeze yesterday. She was lovin the mint choc. chip. I felt really bad though. I definately had to slow down the pace for her. Amy

Peg Cramer wrote:

Competitive eating? Wow, I’ve been in training for that my whole life! But that’s a sad way to eat ice cream, leaving no time to savor the flavors.

Mike wrote:

I bet I could eat more ice cream than that in 8 minutes :-p

Grrraymoo wrote:

Hmmmm…. even if it takes me all my life to break that record, I sure am willing to try for greatness.

PS. Who won the contest?
