READER RECIPE: THE ULTIMATE BUTTER PECAN SUNDAE
Posted by: Turkey Hill Team
The following recipe was e-mailed to Ernie by Bob B. of Rexmont, PA. Sounds like the perfect nightly dessert ritual to us. If anyone else has any special ways they like to dress up their ice cream, please let us know!
Ernie,
There is only one TECHNICAL way to eat Turkey Hill Butter Pecan. Four scoops of ice cream on top of a cut up banana, a squirt or two of chocolate syrup drizzled over the top, topped off with 7 or 8 thin, salty crushed pretzel sticks and a cherry. I am 73 and this is my bed time snack (almost) every night.

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.

We have a bowl of Turkey Hill ice cream almost every night. It goes good with late night TV. We like all the flavors.
March 13th, 2008 at 6:09 pmlove all the Italian duetto flavors and not feeling guilty on my diet.
March 13th, 2008 at 4:02 pmAll the flavors of Italy Duettos are terrific & nothing else like it in our ice cream section. Also love any choc flavor esp w/peanut butter candy..though trying to stick to duetto & diet. keep up the great work..
March 13th, 2008 at 3:59 pmWe always have Turkey Hill in our freezer - that is if it isn’t all devoured. My favorite way to have it is scooped into a cone. I was very pleased when our local stores started to stock Turkey Hill!
March 13th, 2008 at 3:19 pmI predict that Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup will end up being the overall winner
March 13th, 2008 at 11:37 amLove all the recipes. Have tried a lot of them before. YUM!! My husband and I look forward to going to the market and picking out our “favorites” plus anything new to try. My grandchildren head straight for the Freezer to see what Turkey Hill we have this week.
March 13th, 2008 at 10:00 amI love the Columbian Coffee on top of a brownie with either chocolate syrup or caramel! Yum. Have it ‘almost’ every other night. (Otherwise I’d be as big as the TH Swirly Cows!) I don’t know how you all do it - eating all that IC -y’all must have terrific metabolisms.
February 12th, 2008 at 8:29 pmMy favorite, plain chocolate with cranberries and chocolate chips!
February 11th, 2008 at 11:11 amI’m enjoying all these descriptions of ice cream treats, but will stick with my favorite: a 3-inch brownie square (with walnuts added to the batter) topped with a scoop of TH Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream, then a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
February 11th, 2008 at 10:27 amI LIKE TO MAKE A CHOCLATE MIXTURE; CUP OF WARM CHOC0LATE SYRUP ,ADD A 1/4 CUP OF PEANUT BUTTER AND 6 LARGE MARSHMALLOWS AND LAST BROKEN PRETZELS;; WHAT TREAT TO POUR ONVER A MOUNTAIN OF TURKEY HILL ICE CREAM
February 10th, 2008 at 4:15 pmwow, heading to the freezer to have a dish of turkey hill,I am moo ing to kitchen now
February 9th, 2008 at 8:55 pmSometimes like to be creative and make my own recipes. Favorite is using Turkey Hill vanilla…great by itself but epxeriemnt fun too. Just put a little maple syrup over it. Can’t beat it. Or, little of the old morning leftover coffee over it. May keep you awake, but it’s worth it. Tonight I put some SnoCaps…nonpareils over it. Last week some butterscotch chips.
February 9th, 2008 at 8:05 pmThere is nothing better at night than a dish of ice cream with all the works. Start with a banana, two or three scoops of ice cream, chopped up walnuts, caramel topping, chocolate topping, a squrt of whipped cream with a cherry on top. mmm mmm good
February 9th, 2008 at 7:53 pmWhere else can you have a salty and sweet combination than with crushed pretzels and Turkey Hill ice cream? You probably can use other items crushed such as saltines, cheese crackers, tostitos, doritos, etc. The combinations are almost endless.
February 9th, 2008 at 4:01 pmI love Ernie’s recipe except for a squirt or 2 of chocolate syrup…I really have to have more than that! Turkey Hill and chocolate, delicious and I’m going to have some right now.
February 9th, 2008 at 11:36 amI laugh at the 4 scoops. You got nuthin on my husband. He eats ice cream every night out of a mixing bowl. No joke. I call it his Jethro bowl after Jethro on the Beverly Hillbillys.
February 9th, 2008 at 9:39 amOoooh…..that’s our favorite ice cream flavor and it sounds good enough to eat right now….at 9:30 am
February 9th, 2008 at 9:27 am4 scoops of Turkey Hill Vanillia bean wit magic shell and a sprinkle of coconut
February 9th, 2008 at 9:09 amMy brother loves Turkey Hill ice cream. The way he has his is to sprinkle Carnation Malted Milk Powder all over the top before eating.
February 9th, 2008 at 8:47 amWhen I was growing up in Lancaster Co…in the ’50’s…we used to make our own peanut butter ice cream, simply stirring peanut butter into our softened vanilla ice cream. Sometimes mom even used the mixer!!!
February 9th, 2008 at 8:11 amI love, love, love Turkey Hill (my favorite is the Vanilla Bean Philadelphia Style scooped into a large mug and microwaved for 6 seconds)- wouldn’t buy any other. The Turkey Hill Calendar hangs in my kitchen. It’s downright inspirational - keep up the good work.
February 9th, 2008 at 7:36 ammy husband likes chocolate syrup on his ice cream and I really prefer the ice cream by itself
February 9th, 2008 at 7:19 amComment to Tiesha in Alabama, I know how you feel. I am original from Mechanicsburg, Pa. (grew up on delicious Turkey Hill product) now live in N.C. and I cannot get the product either, exceptif I drive 50 plus miles. Then I can only get very few items. Some basic flavors of ice cream. So when I go back North - I stock up! With the ice tea and especially LEMONADE! If you never drank that - everyone is missing something really awesome!
February 9th, 2008 at 6:06 amThanks for all these great ice cream recipes! I know we’ll enjoy them. My husband loves a banana split. I am very partial to butter pecan.
February 9th, 2008 at 6:01 amWhat a great recipe, I wish I could have one right now. YUM!
February 9th, 2008 at 4:01 amMMMM sounds delicious!
February 8th, 2008 at 9:18 pmBob you are amazing and so is your dessert! Keep on eating that TH, your personal recipe sounds delightful!!
February 8th, 2008 at 9:18 pmBob B. has the right idea. My husband would add an extra scoop to round off at 5, pour on the hot fudge, a pile of whipped cream and would also try it out with the pretzels as an excuse to eat his TH icecream. His big problem would be to find a bowl big enough to put it in.
February 8th, 2008 at 9:13 pmI am a simple person and would eat the 4 scoops plain out of the container and just relish the flavor of the TH ice cream
pretzels an ice cream yummy!!!I would like to try this with choco ice cream an peanutbutter chips!!! with the banana an whip cream an choco syrup an cherry!!!
February 8th, 2008 at 5:20 pmThanks Tiesha! If you’re really anxious to get some Turkey Hill iced tea in Alabama, you can order it online here:
http://www.turkeyhill.com/products/order-product.asp
It’s not the same as being able to buy it at your local grocery store, but it’ll do in a pinch!
