ROUND THREE: THE FROSTY FOUR HAVE ARRIVED!
Posted by: Turkey Hill Team
Now we’re getting down to the nitty gritty. The best of the best. The crème de la crème of Turkey Hill ice cream flavors. Of course, we’re talking about the Ultimate Flavor Tournament’s Frosty Four. Out of 16 flavors, these are the four finest, as determined by your votes!
We’ve got a sweet flavor (Raspberry Duetto), a versatile classic (Vanilla Bean), a peanut buttery flavor (Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup) and a minty treat (Mint Chocolate Chip). Who will advance to the Final Bowl and who will go back to the freezer? Only you can decide. And just in case you forgot, at the end of the tournament, we’ll give away a free one month supply of ice cream to 10 commenters chosen at random and one lucky reader will receive a ONE YEAR supply of ice cream.
Here’s some expert analysis on the Frosty Four from a man who knows more about ice cream than anyone we know, Turkey Hill’s very own supervisor of ice cream-making operations, Ernie:
Raspberry Duetto vs. Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup
“It’s amazing to see a rookie flavor like Raspberry Duetto competing at this level. It’s proof of the power of Duetto and how much ice cream fans like it. Still, it’ll be tough for the newcomer to knock off a powerhouse like Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup. All that chocolate, all that peanut butter. I’ll bet two scoops of Cookies & Cream that CPBC wins this match-up by a comfortable margin.”
Vanilla Bean vs. All Natural Mint Chocolate Chip
“Last week, Vanilla Bean was locked in a surprisingly close battle with Black Raspberry. Can this classic move on to the Final Bowl? It won’t be easy. In each of the first two weeks, Mint Chocolate Chip beat its competition by significant margins. This will probably be the hardest fought battle of the entire tournament and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a minty victory here. Sorry Vanilla…at least you’re still the top selling flavor in the nation!”

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.

most of my family ;;;JUST LOVES YOUR CHOOLATE ICE CREAM;;;
April 22nd, 2008 at 4:13 pmThe very first time I tasted the Chocolate Peanut butter I thought I had died and went to heaven!! Deep dark rich chocolate with ribbons of the best ever melt in your mouth peanut butter!AWESOME!!! Chocolate Peanut butter forever #1!!!
March 30th, 2008 at 10:41 pmMore for mint chocolate chip!!!!
March 30th, 2008 at 4:42 pmSo far my choices have made the final four. The quality and the amount of choices that Turkey Hill produces, in my estimation, makes any of their products a champion. The competition has been beaten and TH reigns supreme.
March 28th, 2008 at 8:52 pmCongrats.
Mint chocolate chip and vanilla bean are the two flavors that pleased everyone in the crowd at the recent birthday luncheon. Top then off with chocolate and caramel sauce, whip cream and a cherry, the you are the hit of the day for running such a nice party.
March 28th, 2008 at 8:01 pmCome on you raspberry duetto fans!
March 28th, 2008 at 6:56 pmI’m Western PA and I’m hanging in there for Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup.
March 28th, 2008 at 4:09 pmIt has all been said before…TH rules!
March 28th, 2008 at 6:35 amThis is so unfair to us - to make us choose which of these fantastic flavors is the best.
I can’t believe the peanut butter is whipping the raspberry. Peanut are great, but not in ice cream!
March 28th, 2008 at 3:19 amI was away on vacation, so this is my first chance to vote. Most of my “real” favorites are gone; but since I tend to like the exotic flavors, my hope out of the Final Four is for Raspberry Duetto to pull out the win!
March 27th, 2008 at 11:26 pmOnce again checking in to see if my Vanilla is holding strong.
March 27th, 2008 at 3:02 pmVanilla Bean is my personal favorite. My husband prefers Fudge Ripple Turkey Hill. But no matter what the flavor preference, Turkey Hill is the BEST ice cream ever.
March 27th, 2008 at 1:29 pmturkey hill has the best ice cream ,nothing can not be compared to the taste of the most impressive ,cream of the land
March 27th, 2008 at 12:15 pmTurkey Hill has the best mint choc chip! I also like Choc PB but mint is my favorite!
March 27th, 2008 at 11:03 amThe Raspberry Duetto is really good!
March 27th, 2008 at 9:07 amVanilla Bean will always rank supreme! You just cannot beat it and you can add other flavors of toppings to it if you don’t like it “plain”…
March 27th, 2008 at 7:55 amI haven’t found Raspberry Duetto in my store yet. I’ll keep watching.
March 27th, 2008 at 2:50 amnot thrilled with vanilla bean either, but there is French Vanilla and boy is it good.i know it’s not listed in the voting but i wish it was.as for bacon with the choco.PB Cup,no thank you.seperate at different times maybe.definately not at the same time.
March 27th, 2008 at 2:26 amVanilla Bean’s fatal flaw is that it has no zip. It is as plain as you can get. I give the edge to Mint Choco Chip.
But of all the combos, Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup reigns supreme. Raspberry is an acquired taste for some, and some may consider it exotic.
The only way to surpass Chocolate and Peanut Butter is to add BACON!!!!!!!!!
March 26th, 2008 at 11:17 pmDown with Vanilla! Viva CPBC!
March 26th, 2008 at 8:38 pmI have to agree that the Vanilla Bean has endless possibilities. It’s the one I grab for time after time. Great with just about anything and at anytime. I even love Vanilla Bean for breakfast. You can top it with choclate and a bit of peanut butter, fresh fruit, eat it with cake, pie, crips, and the list goes on and on. Yup..Vanilla Bean the old stand by and still #1 today!
March 26th, 2008 at 8:27 pmThink outside the box (carton) folks. CPBC is good, but your options are endless with Vanilla Bean. Just takes a little creativity and effort. Show some independence
March 26th, 2008 at 7:27 pmThe best is always anything with chocolate!
March 26th, 2008 at 6:27 pmI know you mentioned we can vote more than once but that’s doesn’t seem appropriate. I really hope Vanilla maintains it’s lead. I was happy and surprised. When I voted it was in the lead but then again only 3 of us had weighed in.
March 26th, 2008 at 3:32 pmI voted very early on the first day and I’m ready to check how my favorites are doing.
March 26th, 2008 at 3:30 pmchocolate an peanut butter !!!!
March 26th, 2008 at 2:09 pmIce cream is ICE CREAM! They’re all good!! I’ll take ‘em all…………
March 26th, 2008 at 12:58 pmSince my favorites aren’t in the final, I’ll have to settle for helping take out the boring vanilla. This is an ice-cream flavor competition, not to name the best “blank canvas” that goes with anything. GO MINT CC!!
PS. Denise-you’re right, nothing can compare with chocolate.
March 26th, 2008 at 12:51 pmHow can you go wrong with TH Vanilla Bean? There is nothing bland about the vanilla flavor and it can be the base of unlimited creativity. My personal favorite is peanut butter sauce and hot fudge, but we also add different fruit combos. Why limit yourself to one flavor? Vanilla bean is only limited by your own imagination.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:20 amI really don’t understand how some many people enjoy vanilla.
March 26th, 2008 at 7:38 amMint chocolate chip and raspberry duetto here.
March 26th, 2008 at 3:59 amMint Chip and Raspberry duetto rah rah rah!!!!
March 25th, 2008 at 10:33 pmChocolate and Peanut Butter… you cant beat that combo…and TH makes the best CPBC. I love the Raspberry Duetto.. to bad their competeing against each other.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:06 pmi agree you need to get a peanut butter duetto out that sounds like it would be good. but either way penut and the mint ice cream are very goodand are bought freuent at my house.
March 25th, 2008 at 9:51 pmMmm, chocolate & mint, THE BEST! I agree with Lee & the others. I’m not a big fan of raspberry,, don’t know how that got into the top running. I’d of choosen the Cherry or Lemon Duetto over raspberry. I like Vanilla but it’s not my favorite, even though it is the most versatile. But hey, you can put any flavor in a milk shake,, use your imagination! Same with pie,, it doesn’t have to be vanilla!!
March 25th, 2008 at 9:33 pmOf the 4 choices left, vanilla is the flavor that can be served in so many different ways. Our favorites are with fruits such as strawberries and peaches, in a hot fudge sundae or just as is.
March 25th, 2008 at 9:22 pmthose with a truly sophisticated palate will instantly recognise the obvious superiority of raspberry duetto, if one cannot live with out chocolate simply spoon on some chocolate suace or perhaps some hot fudge sauce. need i say more???
March 25th, 2008 at 9:00 pmIf you want to really treat yourself then choose the mint chocolate chip. For special occasions it’s great. Not everyone can eat peanut butter but raspberry duetto can be enjoyed by everyone. Hey, isn’t voting a special occasion? I’ve got to go now and round up some Turkey Hill Mint Chocolate Chip.
March 25th, 2008 at 8:52 pmLove Chocolate PeanutButter, but vanilla is more versatile.
GO, Ice Cream!!
Chocolate raspberry is good together, too!
March 25th, 2008 at 8:50 pmWhat can be more relaxing than vanilla bean ice cream. Nothing to distract the tastebuds!
March 25th, 2008 at 8:39 pmMMMM chocolate peanut butter cup is my favorite next to Moose tracks of course lol.
March 25th, 2008 at 7:44 pmSo Vanilla’s making a come back woah!!!!!
March 25th, 2008 at 7:33 pmHey that Peanut butter duetto sounded interesting lol!!
How bout a peanut butter duetto?!
March 25th, 2008 at 7:13 pmMint Chocolate Chip is my favorite over Vanilla Bean. Vanilla is bland - Mint Chololate Chip is smooth and minty and melts in your mouth. Ohh - I can taste it now.
March 25th, 2008 at 5:59 pmIt`s very easy Chocolate Mixed with Peanutbutter…No body can resist that!
March 25th, 2008 at 5:50 pmMy vote is still CHOC-W-P-B-CUP…
Who can resist Chocolate?
Who can resist PEANUT BUTTER CUP?
Put them together and is call for
CHOCOLATE PENUTBUTTER CUP.luv-luv-luv it
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup (59%)
March 25th, 2008 at 5:20 pmRaspberry Duetto (41%)
I know why Raspberry is not winning, chocolate is better than raspberry.
Now if it were cherry or mango, maybe, the duetto would be leading
Duetto vs Peanut Butter, I voted for the peanut butter, but if the duetto was cherry, then it would have gotten my vote. I am not a raspberry kind of person; cherry, orange or mango are my favorites
March 25th, 2008 at 5:17 pmvanilla bean and raspberry is the best mix together
March 25th, 2008 at 4:54 pmvanilla bean & raspberry duetto mix together is the best
March 25th, 2008 at 4:52 pmWell-the “old”classic vanilla bean-now that is what I call the ultimate…what else goes with apple pie and good old fashioned thick milk shakes–the variety of uses is the reason for this ultimate winner.
March 25th, 2008 at 4:15 pmI voted for Vanilla Bean & Raspberry Duetto, both very good!
…But my favorite Turkey Hill flavors never made it into the contest, in the first place: “Cherry Duetto” and “Death by Chocolate”. Do I detect a fix???
March 25th, 2008 at 3:52 pmMint Choc. Chip, and Choc. Peanut Butter Cup, are 2 of my favorite, sorry, vanilla maybe next time.
March 25th, 2008 at 3:13 pmMay the best flavors win. Turkey Hill Ice Cream is the best no matter what flavor.
As an ,older, Grandfather-from a grand ,old, city (Philly)I depend on the grand ,old, flavor for my grand, simply, grand !!children: VANILLA
March 25th, 2008 at 2:51 pmWell, for the first time in this tournament, I picked the two leading flavors. Interesting matchups!! I’m glad to see one of the Duettos in the final four, but I really do think less is always more… Vanilla Bean will go all the way!
P.S. I saw the red swirly TH cow at Good & Plenty on 896 this weekend!!!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:31 pmWell sure, plain ol’ vanilla is versatile, but ya gotta dress it up somehow. Chocolate PB Cup, on the other hand, is perfect JUST AS IT IS! It don’ need no stinkin’ toppins!
March 25th, 2008 at 2:14 pmGlad to see the PB still going but hated to see it against rasberry
March 25th, 2008 at 2:13 pmI still have to go with chocolate peanut butter cup as the winner.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:54 pmCan’t help it, still love that Vanilla Bean because I can do anything with it I want and there is no other competing flavor. I add chopped peaches one day, chocolate syrup and walnuts another, strawberry jam another…what a winner.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:26 pmvanilla bean of course…sometimes simpler is tastier
March 25th, 2008 at 1:25 pmvanilla bean is still my favorite.been eating it for years.my cat likes vanilla too.
March 25th, 2008 at 1:18 pmMY PICK IS VANILLA BEAN , YOU CAN ADD TOPPING OF YOUR CHOICE;;;; A LITTLE OR PLIED MILE HI, JUST LIKE THE HAY PILE THE TURKEY HILL COW LOVE TO EAT;;MOO DELIGHT;
March 25th, 2008 at 12:57 pmmint chocolate chip …add some kaluha and its heaven.
March 25th, 2008 at 12:29 pmI would like a combination of rasberry duetto and mint chocolate chip to go under chocolate sauce and a cherry. Thank you for these delicious flavors.
March 25th, 2008 at 12:19 pmI can’t imagine how our standby vanilla could possibly lose to any other flavor. Vanilla ice cream is just the most versatile of all.
March 25th, 2008 at 12:17 pmMy husband’s favorite was Butterscotch, but I favor Original Vanilla either plain or with any of the delicious toppings you can think of.
March 25th, 2008 at 11:37 amI think vanilla should win also. It is great by itself or just as great mixed with anything you can think of.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:52 amThe winner has to be vanilla. Smooth and creamy aside, it’s very versatile - great in sundaes, shakes, ice cream sodas, scooped atop brownies or pie. What more could you ask for…it goes with everything.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:26 amVanilla Bean ALL THE WAY!!!!!
March 25th, 2008 at 10:08 amAnything Turkey Hill is goodddddddddd. Especially chocolate or Peanut Butter.
March 25th, 2008 at 10:07 amWhat an awful decision to make, Vanilla or choc peanut butter. My two favorites and I always, always have a scoup of both, can’t have one without the other.
March 25th, 2008 at 9:51 amI love ice cream, but my favorite is anything with chocolate, and Turkey Hill you do make a great chocolate. I’m still waiting for chocolate Venice Ice!!
March 25th, 2008 at 9:39 amI was also surprised, like a few others, that Moose Tracks didn’t make it to the finals but am pleased that Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup is in the running. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
March 25th, 2008 at 9:14 amI too love just plain old chocolate chip. But I like the light version (light blue box), and cannot find it in any of our stores other than Turkey Hill. We can get a better deal at Weis’ or Giant. Where is the chocolate chip at these stores?
March 25th, 2008 at 9:08 amI’m not too concerned about which flavor wins… I just need to know that my current fave, Chocolate Duetto with Coconut Ice, will still be available at my local supermarket!
March 25th, 2008 at 8:26 amCan’t wait to see the final results!
March 25th, 2008 at 8:06 amI think this may be the end of the road for the Classic Vanilla. Although it is a true classic in every sense of the word, I don’t think it can compete with the more popular and flavorful All Natural Mint Chocolate Chip, a personal summer favorite. The final two, I predict the Mint vs. Peanut Butter Cup, will be a real showdown with the top scoop being talked about until next years’ “top 16″.
March 25th, 2008 at 8:05 amOh, the choices are so difficult!!
March 25th, 2008 at 8:04 amYou really know how to make difficult choices for us…They are all gret tasting…
March 25th, 2008 at 8:02 amWow, Van. is losing at this point. I’m shocked, but happy to vote for Mint Choc. Chip. I don’t know about the other 2. I’m not a choc/pbut fan in general, so, I’m pulling for the underdog there. Amy
March 25th, 2008 at 7:57 amOh I hope vanilla bean wins. It’s the best
March 25th, 2008 at 7:54 amOH NO, my favorite raspberry duetto has fallen behind. What to do, what to do.
March 25th, 2008 at 7:48 amIt’s a fix, I tell you, it’s a fix. lol.
That’s awesome my two favorites are winning. Who doesn’t like Peanut Butter and Mint.
March 25th, 2008 at 7:30 amWell naturally my choices are not winning - just like my basketball bracket! At least I can eat my favorite ice cream choices to get over my misery!
March 25th, 2008 at 7:24 amSo glad to see choc/peanut butter still in the running. Very surprised to see moose tracks fall off the list.
March 25th, 2008 at 7:21 amI am a chocolate and a peanut butter fanatic. Of course raspberry and vanilla are favorites too. It’s so hard to choose. I can’t wait to see the final results.
March 25th, 2008 at 7:04 ami love the mint chocolate chip its very creamy and expecially when my stomach not in a good mood it settles it with easy. and of course the chip are an extra benefit. love that chocolate
March 25th, 2008 at 6:56 amFor me, there is not much in the world quite as simple and yet tasty as Vanilla Bean over a slice of Apple Pie. The pie should be still quite warm from the oven for the magic to work properly. Mom served this to us when we were growing up, as dessert after special meals. With eight of us kids it disappeared fast!
March 25th, 2008 at 6:19 amAs I predicted, the more traditional flavors are prevailing. The final is going to be killer!!! It was hard enough trying to narrow it down to four.
March 25th, 2008 at 6:14 amThis is the tastiest final four match up ever. Looks like the classics beat out their competitors to make it to the finals with one newcomer in the Raspberry Duetto. Which will win fruit or candy flavor? Will a classic beat out the chocolate chip with a mint twist? I can’t wait to find out…I love Turkey Hill.
March 25th, 2008 at 4:50 amI love raspberry but peanut butter and chocolate just blow me away. Still, it deserves to be a tight race for favorite. As to mint chocolate vs. plain old vanilla, I don’t like mint. I love regular chocolate chip.
March 25th, 2008 at 4:38 amThere is absolutely nothing more refreshing than real Vanilla Bean; creamy, yummy, scrumptious. totally excellant in a tall glass of orange soda……my favorite float.
March 25th, 2008 at 4:38 amWhere are the vanilla lovers???? Still sleeping?!
I have placed my votes, but I am still lamenting that Southern Lemon Pie was never listed. I am sorry to be so redundant but Turkey Hill has such a natural lemon flavor (including Duetto) that just cannot be beaten!
March 24th, 2008 at 10:40 pmGo Mint Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup!!! Go go go go go go!!!!!!!!!! That’s it, I just can’t take this excitement anymore!!! I’m having a bowl before work tomorrow!!!!!! That should make my 13 hours tolerable if I start the day off with my fav. TH =)
March 24th, 2008 at 8:22 pmWow, what harsh pairings!!! It looks like an upset’s coming. Personally, I love mint choc chip, but mint worshipers seem to be far & few in between, never seem to meet people who like mint– I guess I’m not traveling in the same circles as the rest of the conclusive 64%!! Well, won’t be watching the Huskies eating it, they’re out!! What will we be eating & who will we be watching? I’ll go with a strong mint cc and an underdog, ‘Nova!
March 24th, 2008 at 8:12 pmChocolate Peanut Butter Cup is totally decadent. Just the thought of the scooper uncovering a huge chunk of cold, crunchy peanut butter brings the word yummmm to mind. Turkey Hill’s smooth chocolate ice cream is 2nd to none. A close runner up is the refreshing minty taste of the Natural Chocolate Chip Mint. The large chocolate chips take it right to the hoop. My children prefer the simpler vanilla bean and chocolate marshmallow, which are delicious, but don’t nearly hit the spot as CPBC or NCCM!
March 24th, 2008 at 7:52 pmI was surprised by the vote. All my family does not like mint and I voted for the vanilla which to me is common but mint is ahead 2 to 1. I am a raspberry fan and dear hubby is a PB man and when he gets on he will be gloating at me he is winning by 3 to 2 and he could not vote since I did the voting.
March 24th, 2008 at 7:28 pmI am not worried which flavor wins since I can always find a TH flavor in my supermarket’s freezer that I like when I go. I still wish I could have found your February “Box of Chocolate” which sounded soo good.
As a confessed Moose Tracks junkie I’m disappointed MT didn’t make it to the Frosty Four. But I guess I have to admit that my favorite TH flavor is whatever one I happen to be eating at the time. So, it is pretty easy to find another flavor to root for. Go Mint Chocolate Chip!!!
March 24th, 2008 at 4:11 pmSorry it took me so long to get off the bench but all I can say is C-P-B-C all the way!
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup is just amazing.
March 24th, 2008 at 4:11 pmChocolate PB Cup - gotta have it!
March 24th, 2008 at 3:50 pmWow it is a very tight race. BUT I LOVE THE Chocolate peanut butter cup!!!! GO CPBC!
March 24th, 2008 at 2:59 pmYes, raspberry is such a great flavor, especially mixed in the venice water ice and creamy cream. Well, we all see at the end this week’s Frosty Four, which wins out on TOP!
March 24th, 2008 at 11:10 amReally folks! What beats the taste of cool creamy natural mint chocolate chip on a summer afternoon? I bet its going to be a long hot summer!
March 24th, 2008 at 10:48 amI can’t wait to hear the final outcome. With three kids in the house, there is usually at least 3 flavors of ice cream in the freezer with two of them being mint chocolate chip and peanut butter cup. I guess you know what our family voted for! If it comes down to these two flavors, we may have to have a secret ballot at our house (ha!ha!).
March 24th, 2008 at 9:52 amopps I meant peanut butter
March 24th, 2008 at 9:17 amI’m not sure you can compare raspberry to chocolate.
