We’ve always known Turkey Hill ice cream was #1 in the hearts of ice cream lovers throughout our home state of Pennsylvania, even if some of the bigger national brands outsold us overall. Not any more. Now, for the first time in our 76-year history, Turkey Hill is the #1 selling ice cream in Pennsylvania!
It’s an amazing honor to be the best selling ice cream in our home state and we owe that success to fans like you. You helped boost statewide sales by eight percent last year. Although we saw sales increases in Philadelphia and the mid-state, we saw most of our growth in Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania (up 22 percent in those areas).
Overall, Turkey Hill accounts for 27 percent of all ice cream sold in Pennsylvania. Not too bad for a company which, as recently as the late 1970s, produced only 1,000 gallons of ice cream per day. Today we churn out over 100,000 gallons each day.
It’s hard to say what Turkey Hill founder Armor Frey would have thought if, back in the 1940s, someone had told him his company would someday hold a title like this. Actually, knowing what we know about Armor’s passion and will to succeed — a drive he passed on to his grandson and current Turkey Hill president, Quintin Frey — that prediction probably wouldn’t have surprised him one bit.

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
yes, TURKEYHILL is tops in PA.BUT I THINK IT IS TOPS IN THE WHOLE WORLD;
The consumer is very discriminating; no surprise Turkey Hill is #1 in PA.
Contratulations!
Turkey Hill is tops with us too and we live in Delaware.
Turkey Hill is tops in VA also.
I can’t believe that it took this long to hit #1.Keep up the good work!!
Congratulations, Turkey Hill for being number 1! You are also number 1 for me also. But please bring it to my area in North Carolina. I have to travel over 50 miles to get your products. The way gas is I cannot get it very readily, like I would. Again, congratulations!
Congratulations Turkey Hill for being named NUMBER 1! You are also number one with me also, but Please bring it closer to me in North Carolina. I have to travel over 50 miles to get your GREAT products. With gas the way it is cannot get it like I would want. Again, Congratulations!
Congratulations! I wish we had Turkey Hill out here in Las Vegas, it is so good and now Pennsylvania proved it!
Congratulations!!
I for one, can certainly see how you acquired this honor. I live in the Pittsburgh area, and I was intoduced to your product just a few short years ago at a Spring Home & Garden show at your sample booth. The minute my husband and I tasted your vanilla sample cup, we were impressed. We learned that your products were being sold at our Shop ‘n Save stores. We picked up a few different flavors that day, and have been hooked ever since. You folks truly have a superior product.
Congratulations, Turkey Hill! You are also a big hit in New York, also! Turkey Hill Ice Cream is always the first to sell out on the shelves in our stores. Word is getting out that Turkey Hill is the best. Keep up the good work!
Congrats! Turkey Hill isn’t doing so bad in NJ either! Anyway, I don’t buy any other ice cream.
CONGRATULATIONS! Keep Turkey Hill going, what a way to go. NJ
Celebrate! Rejoice! Enjoy! This strikes me as the best “contest” of all to win. Congratulations to the entire T.H.T.!!! I’ll do my part to keep the level of success far above the rest!
If I would not get fat I would eat Turkey Hill Ice Cream 7 times a week. Quick question is there such a thing as Turkey Hill Milk Chocolate Ice Cream?????????
I wish I could eat Turkey Hill & days a week. Is there such a flavor as Turkey Hill Milk Chocolate Flavor??????
Thank you all so much! We couldn’t be prouder. We still are that small Lancaster County dairy that we started as, we just have a lot more friends now!
We don’t make an ice cream flavor that is only milk chocolate, however milk chocolate ice cream is the base of some of our other flavors such as Box of Chocolates and Peanut Butter Chocolate Cup.
Congratulations in PA. Turkey Hill is also the tops here in NJ. It is the best – creamy, cold, delicious – oh I can’t wait!!! Yum Yum smack smack
Congratulations!!!! I think everyone there at the Turkey Hill Dairy should break out the Party Cake Ice Cream and celebrate!
Way to go Turkey Hill !
It’s the best in NJ as far as I am concerned.
I know in my family(all relatives & friends included) their favorite Ice Cream is TURKEY HILL no doubt……..
It`s # 1 in our book and in our Freezers….
Louisiana’s got some Turkey Hill Lovers too! When I made the 2-day drive home for Christmas last year, I packed a gallon of Turkey Hill’s Limited Edition Baked Apple Dumpling (my all-time fave!) with me! Every time I stopped for gas, I checked on that ice cream and replenished the cooler’s ice to make sure it survived the journey home. The family was so impressed the gallon was gone in five days!
Congratulations Turkey Hill. Here in New York I see TH ice cream in every supermarket. I buy it every week, and its on special alot. I still want to know if your going to have chocolate venice ice “Duetto” this summer?
Congratulations Turkey Hill!! That is something to be proud of and well-deserved. I’m sure it’s #1 here in NY, especially my hometown because I tell eveyone I know how good TH is.
To us TH is tops in Western Monmouth County, NJ and number one in our freezer
I’m surprised to hear this was just announced. In my book, TH was always #1. I am disappointed though that I can’t find Cherry Orchard Sherbet at my favorite Giant anymore. I hope you are still making it because it is my absolute all-time favorite.
Maryann – We have two brand new Duetto flavors out this year. Root Beer Duetto is our regular flavor addition to the Duetto line, and Chocolate-Coconut, which has Chocolate Soft Serve and Coconut Venice Ice, will take the place of Raspberry as a Limited Edition Duetto for this year. Don’t worry though, due to incredible popularity Raspberry is now a regular flavor!
Congratulations! I do my part when I visit PA!!
I was born and raised in PA and now I live somewhere else. It was a big item in our house then and an glad it still is. However I have carried the tradition to where I live.
What a great accomplishment! You go Turkey Hill.
Well I am not surprized at all..it has been tops with me since the first time I tasted it….
Congratulations. You don’t have to worry about sales in NJ with my family on your side. You should see my freezer. If I had the room I’d have even more Turkey Hill!
You’re number one as far as my family is concerned no matter where we live.
congradulations Turkey Hill. YOu are #1 in this house even with a local NY ice cream company only a few miles away they should take lessons from Turkey HIll!!
congratulations Turkey Hill!!! I am also very glad to know you are coming out with a root beer duetto. Oh, my, now I have two favorites, raspberry Duetto, and Root Beer Duetto. (haven’t tasted the root beer yet, but just know it has to be superb.)
Congrats Turkey Hill. Not surprised. We know quality.
Congratulations!! We don’t get all the flavors here in Virginia…but I always buy TH…then stock up on the others when I get back to Lancaster Co!!
100,000 gallons a day is a lot of ice cream. Congratulations on having the best-selling and best-tasting ice cream in Pennsylvania.
Hey Congratulations, that’s awesome. I just had my first orange sherbert and van. yogurt and loved it. You can’t even tell it’s yogurt. My kids scarfed it down as well. We had desert before dinner tonight.
Amy
Congratulations!! on being No. One in PA.
I’m doing my part for sure in trying to make Turkey Hill #1 up here in Maine!
I join in with all of the of the other bloggers in saying congrats and this is really no surprise! How far exactly does Turkey Hill’s marketing territory reach? Maybe it is time to open up some satellite Turkey Hills around the countryside. I bet it wouldn’t be too hard to find plenty of people to support that idea!
I BUY TURKEY HIIL ICE CREAM EVERY WEEK ,THE ONLY BRAND I BUY , THATS THE BEST
Congrats! It is no big surprise to my family. Thanks for the goodness in every bite!
CPBC ALL THE WAY!
Congratulations for being number one in PA. You have my vote here in Maryland.
Way to go…as a MDresident we enjoy being a neighboring state and having quite a variety of flavors from Turkey Hill. I look forward to the Ice Screamers convention in June each year to be able to EAT and Eat and enjoy Turkey Hill in it’s home state. Congrats to you at Turkey Hill.
Better breaking news for me. Today at Wegman’s I finally found the “THE BOX OF CHOCOLATES” and it was even on sale. Just tasted it and it was well worth the hunt for it. Is this a reissue of it for Mother’s Day or should I rush back to stock my freezer with it ?
Turkey Hill Dairy is a most beautiful site, driving up that hill and seeing it right there in the hillside. You deserve the accolades not just in Pennsylvania, but everywhere it’s sold. Your company should be the standard others strive to live up to!
Turkey Hill is Number in NY too at least in my household!!!!
Turkey Hill is the only Ice Cream We eat in my family. Turkey Hill Is #1 all the way. You can’t touch Turkey Hill Ice Cream
Can’t believe it’s Vanilla vs. Peanut butter. I like neither, but will vote for vanilla. I’ll eat vanilla in a pinch. I’d rather not have ice cream than eat peanuts in ice cream. Crazy, huh?
When TURKEY HILL started selling here in the Philly suburbs, I was won over quickly. I smile every time I read the slogan on the box “Imported from Lancaster County”…makes it sound so classy!
I see that some locations don’t have Turkey Hill and certainly many don’t have the variety we have here in the tri-state area. I guess there are some advantages to living in NJ.
My son is standing here with me and would like to mention how much he loves Turkey Hill. He tells me he wants me to buy Turkey Hill ice cream sandwiches. I know you make them and we’ll be sure to check the supermarket later today.
Congrats Turkey Hill! You have a wonderful product, so it is great to hear that the word is out. Looking forward to the announcement that you are outselling national brands in NY/CT too. You do in this household. Keep up the great work.
YOU GO HILL!
That is GREAT!!!!! Turkey Hill is the only brand we buy and we LOVE trying all the new flavors you come out with. Pomegranate and Blueberry is my new favorite!!!!Keep up the great work. CONGRATS!!!!!
Your Number One here is Michigan. According to my family
Number one in the world. Congrats
Turkey Hill ice cream sandwiches are the absolute BEST.
IN MY MIND YOUR #1 IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD , AND THAT EVEN IN OUTER SPACE;
Just by accident, as I was looking in the ice cream freezer at my Shoppers Food Warehouse, I saw the Turkey Hill Southern Lemon Pie. It called out to me “buy me and you won’t be sorry.” As lemon meringue pie is my favorite, I reached for the box, and it was mine. I have been licking my lips ever since. It is THE BEST flavor of ice cream I have ever tasted. Please, please, keep it forever in your inventory. I promise to give up every other flavor forever!
I love Turkey Hill ice cream and miss it ever since I left the Harrisburg area to move to Michigan. Today I noticed coupons in the paper here in Michigan for Turkey Hill. But I don’t think any of the stores around here have it. Please tell me where to get it in southeast Michigan. Thanks
I was shocked to see my name on the web regarding some nice comments I made about Turkey Hill. I would like my name and those comments deleted immediately.
Sounds good but have not seen any in
Texas…..We eat Blue Bell Ice Cream
Noble Allphin
Please delete my endorsement of Turkey Hill ice cream from the internet. I did not mean to have it published. It is interfering with my professional life very much. Thanks for doing this. Philip
