Your ice cream is the best! We keep at least 4 containers on hand. Even when other s are on sale we buy Turkey Hill because nobody's compares to your Philadelphia style ice creams.

I got married 2 years ago and one of the few things I had to register for was a Kitchenaid stand mixer with the ice cream bowl attachment. Thankfully I got both and have made ice cream in it a few times already. I'm a big ice cream fan. It's my dream job to taste-test new ice cream flavors. The flavors I've made so far are: vanilla, cinnamon, blueberry lemon and I'll trying out 2 new recipes soon: honey, and then peaches swirled in vanilla ice cream that have been cooked in brown sugar, cinnamon, and little bit of brandy. Yum!

We used to make strawberry ice cream every Fourth of July using an electric freezer my mom bought with "plaid stamps" in the 60s. The freezer died about two years ago, but I'll never forget the smooth, creamy texture of that ice cream coating the roof of my mouth...

It's facinating that the origin is "To ICE cream" Makes sense, but I never thought of it that way.
These have been such great lessons!

Thank you for sharing the recipe! It took me back to my childhood, when we'd visit my grandparents in Selinsgrove (PA), and my cousins and I would take turns cranking the handle of the ice cream maker. There was nothing better on a hot summer day than to dip into that delicious vanilla ice cream! It always gave me an instant brain freeze, too! Those were the days .....

My brother and sister-in-law were here on Fri. night. My SIL is from Belfast, N. Ireland. I just read the article about Ice Cream Ireland it is very interesting. When my DB and SIL come to visit they always bring pie or cake. This time I put Turkey Hill Ice Cream on the pie for them, it was the Peach Mango Smoothie. OMG they enjoyed it so much, it really goes well with peach pie. I bet the Jr. Mint is wonderful on Choc. Cake, must do that next. Linda

Last year while we were camping, a lady in the campground came and asked if we would like some homemade ice cream! Who could turn it down? It was part of her daughter's birthday requests and we felt lucky to have been included in the celebration.
Yes, I remember my family on the back porch-- cranking my grandfather's ice cream maker. We didn't worry about cholesterol then!

I was given a 'ball' that makes ice cream. Put the ingredients in the container and ice around it, close the ball, and roll it around. Makes about a pint. easy enough to take camping or on a picnic. The dog helps with the rolling.

I have been toying with the idea of making my own ice cream for many years, but the thought of buying all that stuff, especially the strange kind of ice or rock salt or something always discouraged me. And I don't have any straw? :( Much easier to go and buy Turkey Hill by the gallons. :)

As a child, we made homemade ice cream at least a half dozen times a summer with a hand crank freezer. I now have an electric freezer (so much less work!) and I've made it 3 times already this summer - fresh strawberry, banana, and good 'ole vanilla. It's absolutely delicious and so creamy! However, I just bought the Turkey Hill Jr. Mint ice cream last week and I must say it's super-duper good!!

How I remember making ice cream in a ice cream maker. We lived on a farm, so we had most of the ingredients. My sisters and brother would take turns cranking it, but the best part was the test tasting. We had no recipe, so it was a surprise everytime. Loved those days.

Summer is the best time for making homemade ice cream. The noisy maker gets to sit outside while we sit in the air conditioning.

It's funny that you are printing this now because my grandchildren just made ice cream at our local library. We are going to make some at home (just a little) and we will have our favorite on hand; Turkey Hill of course. The pints are great because we can have several flavors in less space.

I made ice cream many years ago when I was a Girl Scout. It was fun but you ended up only getting a taste so there would be enough for everyone. Much easier to go to the store and buy Turkey Hill and that way everyone can enjoy their favorite flavor.

We make ice cream each summer via the tin can method while camping or when we are up at the "farm" home. It tastes great and now my grandkids have fun rolling the cans across the table with grandma. Turkey Hill still has the best flavors, but our Tin Can ice crean is a good second. Esp our mint chocolate chip.

This story reminds me of when they used to make homemade ice cream at my church. I thougt turning that handle was so fun until I finally got a turn to do it myslef. but, it was worth the fatigue on my arm. It tasted oh, so good. But, you only got a little because EVERYBODY wanted some.

my husband's family used to make ice cream as a huge treat in the summer. they had a dairy cow and would make the ice cream from the sweet cream they had left over. I never got to taste it, but he says there is nothing like it, nothing tastes as good (although Turkey Hill comes close! ;) )

So I have never really been a fan of fruity flavored ice cream because I like the chocolate and vanilla, or caramel or other rich kinds like that and the fruit kind just made it seem to healthy. I might try the Mango Duetto kind though...and if I like that then I can try making some of my own, because with all this ice cream I should balance out my diet with some healthy fruit!

Homemade Ice cream...brings back great memories of my childhood...going to my cousins house on Saturday night. they lived on a farm and we got to help crank the ice cream...made of course with fresh dairy milk and fruit from the farm.
We had a great surprise at our family reunion a few weeks agao ....my cousins husband arrived with 3 ice cream freezers and treated us to Chocolate, Vanilla and the most awesome Peanut Butter ice cream. I got to lick the Peanut Butter beater. And coincidentally there was homemade pie to go with the ice cream. Who could ask for any thing better. Hopefully this becomes a yearly reunion tradition.
If you haven't tried homemade ice cream you don't no what your missing
It's a liitle bit of work but worth every bite.

Hopefully this becomes a yearly reunion tradition.
If you haven’t tried homemade ice cream you don’t no what your missing
It’s a liitle bit of work but worth every bite.

It is amazing that they could make ice cream at all in those days. They had the food cellars where they stored their dairy products and used the ice that had been cut from the rivers in the spring in large chunks.

I have an old-fashioned ice-cream maker. I can make one gallon at a time. When I first got it I used it at least a few times every summer (as long as I remembered to pick-up some rock-salt during the winter). I would make ice cream with whatever fruits were in season (strawberry, blueberry, peach, etc). I also experimented with making green-tea ice cream (most Japanese restaurants carry this flavor). I have not made any ice cream lately, I'm too busy and I enjoy the taste and variety of Turkey Hill ice cream.

I remember my mother and grandmother making it (also on the back porch) and we took turns churning. When my kids were young, we took fresh snow and mixed it with milk (or cream), sugar and vanilla -- they loved that, too. We recently got rid of our electric IC maker 'cause it's so much easier to go buy our favorite TH flavors!

In our married life we have never attempted to make our own ice cream. Our 37 year old son has successfully made delicious ice cream - however it is so convenient to buy it at the store.

Okay, I had an ice cream machine, given as a gift back in the 1950's (yikes). I could never get it to make ice cream but I had fun trying. Now, all grown up, I don't have the time or the patience for it so I will continue to buy my Turkey Hill in the store and enjoy it.

1 - Go to Turkey Hill. Buy favorite flavor.
2 - Go home and get a spoon.
3 - Enjoy! ;)

When I was growing up, making ice cream was a summer ritual. My parents had a wooden crank ice cream maker that I'm sure had belonged to my grandparents. The four of us (including my brother) would go out on the side porch after my mother had prepared and cooled the ingredients. My father would load the ice and rock salt around the silver canister loaded with the potential ice cream. Then came the work!! Usually, my brother and I started the cranking process. The more time we spent cranking, the more tiring the process became (as the ice cream thickened). Finally, the ice cream was finished being churned, but the process wasn't over yet... We had to wait for it to "ripen", by sitting in a new batch of ice for a while (which seemed like forever!). All that time for a delicious conclusion that ended up with the inevitable "brain freeze".

I actually did by an electric ice cream maker recently to give my children a taste of what I used to make with their late grandmother, using her recipe, of course. It will only be used on rare occasions, though. I'm afraid that I'm too spoiled now by being able to go to the grocery store. A much quicker process for sure and a delicious one -- especially since Turkey Hill ice cream has come to Pittsburgh within the last several years. We used to look for it when we went to the beach in Virginia, but are so glad that we don't have to wait for vacation to enjoy it. Thanks Turkey Hill!!!

When I became engaged 36 years ago, my co-workers gave me a combination bridal shower/going away party (I was moving out of state after the wedding), and the "major gift" was an ice cream freezer. It's been used many times over the years---when a cold-but-messy activity was the perfect summer treat---but we still find ourselves happily examining the choices in the grocery store ice cream aisle most of the time.

Even years ago ice cream was the ultimate in dessert! We are so lucky to have Turkey Hill ice cream in our supermarkets with so many flavors. But, have to admit black cherry is still the best. There are so many cherries; you never overlook quality.
Thank you!

We received an ice cream maker as a wedding present. We used it a few times. It is somewhere in the back of one of our closets. As most people have said it is much easier to buy some Turkey Hill and use the time you saved by not making it on something else.

I used to make icecream for my kids years ago. ( am 80 years old now). But ever since I tasted Turkey Hill that we purchased from our Stop + Shop Supermarket here in RI, making ice cream is the farthest thing in my mind.

I worked in a school with first graders and my first year or two, we made ice cream with the kids. It was hard and messy. I've never made it at home. I prefer just to buy Turkey Hill in the store. It's the best ice cream so why bother with making it.

The last and only time we made ice cream was over 20 years ago when our youngest brought home from school the recipe. I remember it was made with heavey cream and dark chocolate bits. When we were nearing the end of eating it we discovered the spoon we used to make it at the bottom so we called it "Spoon Ice Cream" and now a fond memory of our youngest child

I love making ice cream at home and experimenting with flavors. My favorite flavor to make is a rich pumpkin with bits of crystallized ginger.

I've never made ice cream, but that is fantastic to see how they've done it. Like others I will stick to letting you make it and I will just buy it from you! :) you are likely much better at it than I am.

Good Morning to all,
I yes I still make homemade ice cream sometime. Turkey Hill you are so right how Mrs. Mary Eales' made homemade ice cream. When I was little, my mother would make ice cream this way.she would used a large tin contain and put everything in it and we would shake it up and down then we would put it in the center of water salt and ice; covered, let it freeze. I would be some very good ice cream. With my grandson, we would make it that way sometime. When I have extra half and half on hand. don't wanted it to spoil. Thank You for the story. Some thing never get lost in life. in other word, people still make ice cream the old fashion way.

For those who make homemade ice cream today, it sounds a lot easier than Mary Eales recipe (or receipt). I love reading these articles!
Even though most homemade treats are better than store-bought, when it comes to ice cream I will definitely stay with Turkey Hill.

My parents had a hand crank ice cream maker when I was little (dating myself of course). We all took turns and it was exhausting but the stuff was great.
So little for so much work though!

When I was a youngster, my Mom & Dad would get out our ice cream maker for a treat -- I never did taste anything that tastes quite like your own homemade ice cream. It always seemed like the good old standby vanilla came out the best. One of the reasons I don't own an ice cream maker today is I just don't have the room or the time for it, so I'm always glad to have Turkey Hill available at the store -- it's always fun to see what flavor will be the next feature flavor. People who don't live in Pennsylvania are missing a good thing!

We used to make ice cream at our grandparents house in the summer - all 10 grandchildren got to turn the crank -maybe that way the adults didn't have to work so hard.....It was always delicious, though!

Back when I was 8 or 9 years old, I remember someone bringing an ice cream churn to a church picnic. All the children took turns cranking, as this was a grand adventure! It made perfect strawberry ice cream, a vibrant pink color. That was back in the 1950s.

I can remember my father and whoever else was available turning the crank to make the ice cream when I was younger. Now, of course, they have electric ice cream makers. I love TH ice cream, but there is nothing like home made.

Yes I do. I have a great cinnamon ice cream that's very good. Unfortunately I have one that only has an electric top, I place it in my sink cause I need rock salt and ice. I keep telling myself I'll save up for a real one for the counter top but I still haven't. When I was young me my 2 brothers and my sisters used to crank the handle to churn the ice cream. If we didn't churn no ice cream!

I do not know anyone that makes ice cream at home. I do remember when I was young my Grandparents made ice cream on their back porch. I remember eating the best tasting vanilla ice cream I ever had. One summer they made peach ice cream and that was delicious too.

Nope. Never made ice cream at home. A trip to the store for Turkey Hill sounds like the better option to me.

I've heard of her book, but it was called "the complete confectoiner". I'm not even sure how I knew of it. I think someone had the book in their home...my gram maybe? Either way, it's nice to hear of where it came from. Those old recipe books are sure fun to have on hand. I love anything historic like that. It brings delight to a homemaker who can look back on what our great grandmothers did in their homes.

I am tired just reading the amount of work involved in making icecream then. Although I have never attempted to make icecream at home, I have made sno-cones and smoothies...but let's face it, they aren't as good as icecream! I feel fortunate I can just run to the store and pick up may favorite Turkey Hill icecream.
