RECIPE: DUETTO LEMON PIE

Posted by Turkey Hill Team on July 29th, 2008

Like we said last week, lately some members of the Turkey Hill team have been travelling to various cities to talk about Turkey Hill on local TV news shows. The theme for most of those appearances is “cooking with ice cream” and what we usually make is our famously simple Duetto Lemon Pie. Of course, as you’ll see from the recipe below, it’s not really “cooking” but that doesn’t mean it’s not delicious. Has anyone used ice cream as a cooking ingredient, even if it’s something simple like this?

INGREDIENTS:
Turkey Hill Lemon Duetto
8 oz container cool whip
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 lemon
1 Graham cracker pie crust

DIRECTIONS:  Scoop Lemon Duetto ice cream into piecrust.  Fill 3/4 to top.  In a bowl mix cool whip with lemon juice.  Cover Lemon Duetto with cool whip mixture. Cut lemon slices to garnish top. Serves eight.

Turkey hill ice cream is the only kind of ice Cream I use. The sherbets and yogarts, are the best. I love vanilla bean when I am making sundaes. I love the orange and rainbow sherbets. My favorite ice creams are Rocky Road Butter Pecan and Chocolate Marshnallow. The other ice creams like Bryers taste like powder.Keep on doing what you are doing.

  2. Ruth K says:

Yes, I did. I made brownies in two pie pans and baked. When cool I topped the brownie crusts with mint chip ice cream to the top of the pie dish. Then I placed them back into the freezer until ready to serve. To serve I garnished each piece with drizzled hot fudge and whipped cream. Very rich but very good!

Good Morning to all Turkey Hill Fans,
That is how I make my Lemon Ice Cream Pie, But, I Add 1 cup of lemon pie filling to my Turkey Hill Lemon Pie duetto. It give it a little more lemon pie taste. I cook my lemon sliced until they are like candie, chill slices; place on top of my pie. I love your recipe. I used any kind of bake pie crust too. Now All we need a cranberry duetto. That would be good in the fall and winter season. I love the picture of the pie too.

This recipe sounds so good and since I don’t turn my oven on all summer, this would be the perfect dessert to make especially when the grandkids come over because I always try to have something special for them. I have never used ice cream in a recipe before except for sundaes or banana splits….there’s a whole new world of recipes out there. Thanks Turkey Hill!

  35. Tianna says:

I make a quick Mousse using TH Philly style Chocolate and Whipping cream. My neice made me use Cool whip cause it’s quicker and we can eat it faster.
Soften the ice cream gentle fold in Cool Whip with spatula. Layer in a tall glass the choc mixture followed by a sprinkle of crushed cookie crumbs (I use Oreos my nephews graham crackers, my niece Nilla Wafers, then Coolwhip, cookie crumbs, then choc mixture. Top with small (melon ball scoop) of ice cream refreeze then serve. Hmmmm a chocoholics dream.

I agree with linda with the lack of willpower to put it in the pie shell. I prefer to save the energy and just eat my TH from the carton undiluted.
This morning I saw on WB11 competition giving out free ice cream in front of their building (Old name “the Daily News building”. If you did it maybe Superman will come back there.

  43. mary anne kazlauskas says:

a few years ago i came up with something for my grandkids when they were visiting. we have tried many different combinations, and toppings, but this is the basic recipe.

jello made in bowl or squares. layer jello, ice cream, cool whip and then a topping. simple, easy, the kids can make one kind or vary it as they like by themselves as i put out different types of goodies, and they get creative. make many layers, or whatever. it is fun and delicious. adults love doing it too. but best of all everyone loves eating turkey hill ice cream this way !

My e-mail’s been down for a few days, but I did want to comment on the ice cream headache article, and thank you for the tips. I have gotten these headaches for years, especially when I eat too fast. I always take a drink of water and it goes away, but it was I had never heard of the pressing on the roof of your mouth. It’s interesting also that I suffered with severe migraine headaches for 20 years before I got relief. I had never heard them mentioned together before. Very informative article!!!
