Wow, where did the month go? July is over, and so is another National Ice Cream month. Hopefully everyone found time over the last 31 days to celebrate appropriately…and we all know what that celebration involves. Of course, like so many of you said in your comments over the last four weeks, every month is like National Ice Cream Month, so feel free to continue celebrating all year round!
This July, we saw so many new readers here on the Ice Cream Journal. We’ve also seen record-setting levels of input from all of you, with tons of e-mails to Ernie and comments every day (we love that!). Whether you’re a new reader or an old friend, thank you for spending some time with us and we hope to see more of you in the future!
Like we said in the beginning of the month, tomorrow we’ll randomly select one July comment to receive this year’s National Ice Cream Month grand prize: a one year supply of Turkey Hill ice cream, a one-night stay in Lancaster County, AND a tour of Turkey Hill Dairy by Ernie himself. It’s definitely the biggest prize we’ve ever given away here on the Ice Cream Journal, but we love National Ice Cream Month, so it makes perfect sense.
If you want a shot at the prize, now’s your last chance to leave a comment (it’s okay if you leave your comment tomorrow, we’ll still include it in the drawing). In your comment, feel free to let us know how YOU celebrated National Ice Cream Month and how you plan to keep on celebrating ice cream throughout the year!

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
I eat ice-cream all year long, as it’s always been my favorite dessert, and my husband’s too. So even though National Ice Cream Month is over, we will keep right on eating Turkey Hill ice cream! And thanks for the great coupons in last week’s Sunday paper, too! $1 off any Turkey Hill ice cream. Can’t beat that! Oh wait, I guess you can beat that if you win the year’s supply, LOL. Good luck everyone!
It may be the end of the “official” Ice Cream Month, but the time and the reason to eat ice cream never actually ends. It’s ALWAYS time for ice cream! Thanks for the great stories. I do like to read about ice cream related things… but I much prefer to eat it.
I have enjoyed leaving my comments and reading other Turkey Hill ice cream lovers comments as well. My husband and I eat ice cream year as do most ice cream lovers. Enjoy the rest of your Summer everyone!
Thanks for creating THE BEST ice cream. I look forward to continuing to keep Turkeyhill Farms in my freezer and sharing it with my family.
Ice Cream month is Every month. Thats just a given. We celebrated by making ice cream sandwiches made with chocolate chip cookies and one of several of our favorites from Turkey Hill.
We also had a float, banana split and shared it with a birthday cake. Ice cream is good for EVERY occasion.
I just bought four boxes about an hour ago! Thanks for such an interesting blog this month! I learned a lot!
Ice cream is our family’s favorite dessert & snack, so a lot of it was consumed several times a day. That trend will continue for the other 11 months as well!
National Ice Cream month has expanded my horizons beyond my all time favorite flavor, Moose Tracks. All the blogs and comments have inspired me to try as many different flavors as I possibly can. Talk about sweet indecision at the TH display at the grocery store!
My kids and I have enjoyed reading all the information during National Ice Cream month. We love your ice cream! Duetto is a favorite.
Hi all.
I found eating turkey hill ice cream beets a good stake anytime.plus for dessert theres more Turkey hill.
Would you believe we eat ice cream almost every night?! Then we walk it off at the boardwalk on the Jersey Shore. What a way to spend summer evenings!
just had some T,H, With hot fudge 1/2 hr ago Dick
This has been fun. I am addicted to this blog almost as much as I am to Turkey Hill ice cream itself. Less blogging, more eating in August, I guess.
would love to win the prize though if not Turkey HIll Ice Cream is a prize in and of itself!
I hope I win. This might be ice cream month but that doesn’t stop me. All year round
July was a really fun month for reading your clever ice cream blogs. Thank you for your inspiring efforts and the great photos too! Let’s do it AGAIN next July!
I wish National Ice Cream Month was a whole year, I am sorry to see it go. I celebrated by eating ice cream everyday and I am going to continue my love and support of Turkey Hill. I am trying a new flavor every week and I love it.
Liked the National Ice Cream month promo and hope you have more like it throughout the year
Could always eat more
It’s National Turkey Hill Day every day in my house. Not just one month. Love all flavors, too hard to choose a favorite. And love Lancaster County, home of Turkey Hill
we celebrate ice cream-especially Turkey Hill-all year long-just LOVE that limited edition peaches and cream!
I like ice cream all the time…doesn’t matter what time of year. It is one of the simpler pleasures in life.
I like to make it Turkey Hill ice cream month every month at my house!!
My daughter celebrated a big birthday day this month…so along with the cakes her friends baked for her, there was lots of ice cream to eat with them. Jr Mint was a special treat this month!!
It doesn;t matter whether it’s National Ice Cream month or not, I love ice cream!
National Ice Cream month, has been fun,, but as most on here have stated,,,,if you’re a true ice cream lover, as we all are,,you really don’t need a holiday to eat ice cream,, EVERY DAY is a holiday worthy of eating TH ice cream! But the holiday part makes it special! lol
One thing I notice different is I’m buying more boxes of Turkey Hill ice cream to eat at home and stopping at soft serve places less…I guess it’s the “gas price thing”, but then again it could be these articles/blogs have been the enticement!
We love Turkey Hill – only wish our local stores would have the limited time flavors consistantly. Duettos are great – root beer is the favorite.
Even though National Ice Cream month is over, it won’t end here because Turkey Hill ice cream is the one thing I have to always have in my freezer. In the past I would always buy Moose Tracks or Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup but now I try a different flavor every time and have not had one I didn’t like!! My taste buds thank you.
Don’t know if it was “Ice Cream Month” or just my love of TH ice cream, yogurt, actually, but I’ve been having a late lunch and substituting TH for dinner. Guess you know what my favorite meal of the day has been!!!
Loved limited flavor of Jr. Mint.
it may seem as if i am writing something everyday, i’m really not. but i read this everyday.
yesterday, in a car with several of my red hat society cohorts, i told them all about this site and the contests and what fun you can have with the grands doing games, etc. and each one wrote down the info so that they can also be part of the turkey hill experience. the only person whose favorite ice cream wasn’t turkey hill was threatened with being kicked out the door. even so, she too took down the address. so there you go, several more new readers are coming ! keep up the good work and continue to make the best ice cream around.
Even though National Ice Cream Month is over that doesn’t mean eating Turkey Hill Ice Cream is over. COME ON!!!! EAT MORE TURKEY HILL!!!!. I love my Ice cream. All Flavors!! Isn’t August World Wide Ice Cream Month? LOL!!!!
I am one of those people who live by the saying, “Life is short, eat dessert first!” I have my bowl, cone, sundae every night when I come home from work, and then I start to cook supper. I need that little bit of enjoyment and rest with ice cream before I begin my evening. Love the new flavors of Turkey Hill. They might not be new to you, but I’ve just noticed them in my store.
I tried the chocolate peanut butter cup and think it is too sweet. I would rather have chocolate with peanut chips instead. My real favorite is chocolate with almond chips.
Thank You Turkey Hill for giving us something we can be proud of. Turkey Hill Ice Cream, Proudly made in the USA.
The month was a real celebration for me when I finally found Root Beer Duetto at my supermarket. I could finally enjoy a root beer float every night!
Thanks for all the interesting articles this month. Keep up the good work.
Everybody should scream for ice cream!!!
I plan to celebrate today (a day late, I know) by making some homemade ice cream and then putting small portions in separate containers and adding all kinds of different flavors to the various containers. Yumm!!
This month my family and I went to Lancaster PA and had delicious home-made ice cream at Good ‘N Plenty!
Now that we are home we buy Turkey Hill ice cream and dairy products to keep a little bit of Lancaster in us all year round!
No matter what – plain vanilla, a little milk and stir till extra creamy is still my favorite why to eat Turkey Hill
I know it’s August 1st but since you don’t push the emails until the next day I’ll give this one last shot. Boy did the month fly and as always I had my nightly mug of Turkey Hill.
That’s great that July was dedicated as National Ice Cream Month. But personally I eat ice cream all year long. It’s the one dessert that always is satisfying. So many flavor options and so many ways to eat it.
When I was younger I used to spread it on bread and eat it. I also love making ice cream cakes. It’s always a hit with the kids in our neighborhood. And the old traditional banana split is just as good as the first time I had it. And nothing beats a chocolate banana milkshake expect maybe a strawberry milkshake with fresh strawberries added in. Or how about a root beer float? I make a Tres Leches Cake and top it with ice cream instead of whipped cream.
The possibilities and fun is endless with ice cream!
I started my 5 month old puppy this month on her first taste of icecream (how appropriate during icecream month) and what better than with Turkey Hill Vanilla/Choclate, but only the vanilla. Now when she sees me take out the container and scoop out some she begs for it. Boy they learn to beg from day one! She hasnt quite mastered the picking up the piece of icecream, shes more of a licker.
Ice Cream is great any time of the year. I’m not even sure we eat more of it in July. We eat it all the time. We all scream for Ice Cream!!!
I ;oved the stories every day. came to read everything people wrote. and to what i can read about turkey hill. and it was very interesting to have learned. hope that you will do this again, at later time. thanks
We celebrated National Ice Cream month with Turkey Hill by reading together your wonderful articles and eating as much of your ice cream as possible. We also tried a few new receipes with your ice cream in them. I also loved learning about Lancster County and feeling like a spent a whole month with Turkey Hill, Ernie and other faithful followers through the comments. This was fun , Thank you for the opportunity!!!
This was my first National Icecream Month on the website and I feel this was an extremely educational experience for me which I was able to share alot of the knowledge I gained with my family. I celebrated National Icecream Month by having icecream every night with my family (even if just a spoonful). We will continue to celebrate icecream by trying some of the great recipes we have found on your website and to also share those recipes with our extended family and friends. We have also incorporated walking several evenings per night(which we do so with an icecream cone) – if we are going to keep eating all that delicious icecream, we have to keep healthy! All-in-all, I thank Turkey Hill for the knowledge my family and I have gained this month through this website which has created me to open up my hectic schedule and find more time with my family sharing stories and our love of icecream!
National Icecream month was tasty and fun. I enjoyed reading all the journals, and I sampled some new Turkey Hill flavors.
p.s. I have 4 half gallons in my freezer now!!!
I’ve enjoyed ice cream year around for more years than I care to admit, but this was reading all the comments all month. Good idea having ice cream month.
I just read some of the other comments – patti, you’re a piker, anything less than 6 half gallons in the fridge (and 4 of those HAVE to be chocolate!) is just not enough! My family can go through 2 in just an afternoon – and I could keep those Keebler elves busy making the cones to go with!
I eat ice cream almost every day!! Yes, you read that right. A year supply would be just the right amount for my ice cream snacking habit!! Turkey Hill is the best:)
I have to admit that I celebrate ice cream month all year round. Most of the time there is ice cream in my freezer.
When I am not feeling well, even when I can’t stomach any other food, I can always eat mint ice cream.
I am having health problems and have relied heavily on ice cream to get me through the times when I can’t eat solid foods.
So, I say it is a health food. Without it I would not have managed to heal very well though 2 major surgeries (looking at a possible 3rd right now) as it kept me nourished when nothing else would stay down.
It is wonderful that July is ice cream month, but we celebrate ice cream all year long, with our favorite evening treat. Turkey Hill Ice Cream!
National Ice Cream month is celebrated every month in our house….our freeze and refrig is never without a suppy of ice cream…..90% of the time it is TURKEY HILL!!! You sure know how to make ice cream special…Enjoy Today.
I can’t believe July has gone by so incredibly fast. What a treat to read all the Lancaster County articles, and the blog entries were such fun to read. I can’t say I’ve eaten any more ice cream during July than the other months, but I’ve definitely had more than my share I can assure you. I did get to try the Jr. Mint flavor and everyone loved it! We would love for it to be a regular flavor. Well, thanks for the memories going back over the years and all the info you shared with us in July. It was truly delightful.
My favorite month and my favorite food. Boo hoo, I’ll miss you until next year.
Good Afternoon Yutkey Hill Fans,
It is hot out side this afternoon, I brought my vanilla Turkey Hill Ice cream this morning so I can eat it now. After I finish e-mail you this letter. Turkey Hill, I still can’t find that Jr.Mint Ice Cream. I am going to keep looking for it. I know I can find it, but it’s taking a little longer then I thought it would. I am going to miss National Ice Cream Month, but… I will see it next year…maybe turkey hill will cam and visit me in Maryland next year. with a hug supply of Turkey Hill Ice Cream. I would then share it with my family and friends.Turkey Hill you are #1 month after month with your ice cream and ice tea. I brought your ice tea and it was good. I add some white wine and different kind of fruits to
Turkey Hill tea and it was very good. Everyone have a safe and happy weekend
We celebrated National Ice Cream Month by eating our share of Turkey Hill Ice Cream. Last evening we attended the Lebanon County 4H/FFA Fair. Turkey Hill ice cream was used to make the AWESOME milk shakes. A great end to National Ice Cream Month.
Good Afternoon Turkey Hill and fans
July was National Ice Cream Month. I brought so much Turkey Hill ICe Cream this month…making ice cream pie, cake and mix it with soda. I love the ice cream soda. My flavor is Turkey Hill vanilla ice cream. I took a tall glass put 1 scoop of Turkey Hill Ice cream and 1 scoop of Strawberry Ice cream in it. Pour ginger ale over it. Garnish with fresh strawberries. That was so good. I am going to miss national Ice Cream Month, But I will look forward to it next year. One article I love you for it was the story about founder of Turkey Hill Ice cream. He was truly bless. He was a family man. all of his children love him. Everyone have a bless, safe happy weekend
It would be a swell surprise
To win the Ice Cream Month Grand Prize!
Ice Cream month is over but in my house its more like ice cream year! When anyone asks me what my favorite food is, I always tell them ICE CREAM! We eat it every night (sometimes in the afternoon too). Its just the perfect food! I’ve been buying whatever good brand is on sale (I need to save money) and I have decided that Turkey Hill really is the best tasting ice cream! I just wish I could find the Junior Mint. I’m dying to try it!
This month went so fast like most boggers here I try to keep 2 TH choc containers in my freezer. As a foodie I now have some non chocolate recipes (ice cream) as well as an unofficial ambassador for Lancaster County, B & B’s food stands, Turkey Hill facilities. I even managed to convert 2 Breyers only eaters that TH Philly style was equal 2 and 1 of the 2, better than the aforementioned brand. (I made them take a blind taste test Neopolitan (Choc, van, straw combo) Flavour. I was very proud of myself for converting just 2.
Ice Cream month may be over, but at my home it is all year long. My Brother-In-Law is in a Nursing Home dying of cancer, he doesn’t want to eat, so everyday either my sister or I take him a different flavor of Turkey Hill Ice Cream, he loves his Ice Cream. Today he had the Raspberry. I just got my supply at our Giant Store, it is on sale at a very good price. As far as I am concerned I wouldn’t care how much I had to pay to keep my BIL happy. Thank you so much Turkey Hill for a great product. Linda
I really wish that July was a leap year month so that we would have one last day to celebrate with ice cream. The 31 days went by so quickly. I celebrated by buying 2 new flavors of turkey hill ice cream a week. I normally stick to my favorite traditional kinds, but I ventured out and found a lot of new really good ones. I love even the frozen yogurt and the light ice cream, I have added eve the fruity flavors to get some nutrition in! I think that I should continue celebrating even though the month is officially over because the weather is still hot and prime for an ice cream treat. I loved all the recipes featured this month involving ice cream and will try some tasty ones when my friends come over. I look forward to new turkey hill ice cream flavors and combinations and to see what the next new item out is. I have certainly expanded my horizons this month and plan on continuing with the same thing. Even after one month of eating ice cream EVERY DAY I am still not tired of it. My grandma is always telling me I am going to get fat or get clogged arteries if I keep eating this way, but I remain underweight for my age, have a blood pressure of 95/60, and healthy EKG, cholesterol levels and blood levels since I just had to get them checked for a clinical internship for school. So ice cream must be healthy for me too! Thanks Turkey Hill!!! I really hope I win the prize too. It would be the greatest part of my year
It went fast like eating a wonderful hot fudge sundae!!!!!
Wow that month went fast! Yes every month should be ice cream month! I’ll start by eating Turkey Hill everday. Now you all follow! LOL!!
Sometime the ICE CREAM IS SO GOOD YOU JUST EAT IT ALL.
can we have sundae minth in august?
Well, it was another fun contest. Cookie dough was the favorite of the month at my house. Thanks for the fun comments. Amy
Every month is ice cream month at our house!
I must say,I not only had some of the best flavors of ice cream this month but I also learned a little bit of history. Thanks Turkey Hill & all you bloggers, you rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love Turkey Hill Ice Cream. Pick me, pick me.
Every month is ice cream month in our house. My husband eats Turkey Hill almost every evening. We drive from the Niagara Falls, NY area every summer to vacation in your neck of the woods. Would love to win the prize, especially the tour of Turkey Hill. Have really enjoyed the all the fun information you provided us,and reading everyones comments. Congratulations to whoever wins the prize.
thanks for the batch of TH coupons you mailed me this week. altho i don’t know exactly why you sent them i can only guess that it was due to a product suggestion i made in july on the blogs. the coups will be used, of course!
My wife and I celebrated National Ice Cream month by buying Turkey Hill brands of ice cream at the supermarket and enjoying some of the light recipe flavors offered now and we are going to continue to do so. The Strawberry Cheesecake is awesome and hits the spot. We’ll still buy the regular flavors time to time. The different flavors were our celebration! Thank you TH!
I’m happy that we picked July to be National Ice Cream Month because its my birthday month! But its also soooo refreshing on a hot summer night to finish off a great meal with a bowl of Chocolate Turkey Hill Ice Cream! Now thats good!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My family and I celebrated Ice Cream Month by trying a new flavor every week……the grandchildren and I had a great time….I so hope we are the winners and thanks for all the great flavors you are coming out with…we love the choices…….
Thanks so much for the opportunity to participate in your contest! I’ve had so much fun; it’s nice to know there’s a support group for us “Icecreamaholics”! The only thing better than indulging in my daily ice cream binge would be knowing I won the grand prize … a whole year’s supply of your delicious TURKEY HILL Ice Cream! Heaven on earth …..
)
To end the month of July I decided to have a milk shake. I used to have these often when I was younger. The best ones are the home-made ones. You can be inventive and add your own ingredients. It hit the spot. I may even have one or two in August.
It’s such a THRILL to buy TURKEY HILL!
Any flavor will FILL the BILL!
Thanks for a super month of July
every month is Turkey Hill Ice Cream month
National Ice Cream month may have come & gone but not in my domain. Turkey Hill is a staple here!
July may have been “Ice Cream Month”, but in my life, EVERY day is “Ice Cream Day”. I live by the maxim: A day without Turkey Hill Ice Cream is like a day without sunshine”. I’m not ashamed to admit I eat a lot of ice cream which, according to my maxim, makes me feel like “Little Miss Sunshine”! Thanks, Turkey Hill, for making each day an ice cream treat!

Another Ice Cream month (July) gone, but think of all the other months to enjoy Turkey Hill Ice Cream. Turkey Hill is good anytime of the year. As my brother says,”Turkey Hill Ice Cream is good anytime of the day, I even had it for breakfast with warm waffles.” Love the Duetto and the Smoothies flavors. If you haven’t tried the Jr. Mint you really are missing a great flavor. Linda
I celebrated by driving to Virginia and finding four boxes of Turkey Hill Gertrude Hawk Box of Chocolates- what a pleasant surprise to still find it. That might be my favorite ever!
Sorry it has “offically” ended, but Not at our house! It goes on 12 months here!
Like all the others, every month is ice cream month in our house.
We always have a couple of flavors in our freezer. Milkshakes are on the snack menu for tonight–can’t wait! Ice Cream Month is every month here in Elk County.
hope i win
I have really enjoyd this contest and most of all learning so much of the Turkey Hill history as well as the Lancaster County history. I do hope to visit the town in August. Thanks again to Ernie for responding to all my e-mails of the hisory. Thanks Ernie.
Thanks for a great promotion and all the wonderful ice cream info.
A day without ice cream is a day without sunshine. Thanks for all your excellant info!
Thanks for the great ice cream and good luck everyone. Have a nice day!
I celebrate every month with plenty of ice cream in the freezer: a day without ice cream is like a day without sunshine!
This has been fun—- I love the ice-cream you make—-
please put out more coupons!!!!
It is so good!!!
Carol
well i really enjoyed all the comments and the ice cream journal. but no one has to tell my family something we already knew just how good turkey hill ice cream taste. i would love to be a taste tester for ice cream flavors. and about lancaster county this past weekend we went camping at a campground out side of litz. we all had a great time.
Thanks T.H.T. for a month of great celebration! We have enjoyed your products, recipes, “history lessons”, and the insight into Lancaster County. I truly love reading the comments…they are interesting, informative, and often quite entertaing. You give us many reasons to smile and keep on celebrating! Thanks again, we appreciate all you do!
With a name like TURKEY HILL, you got to be good!!!
Turkey Hill ice cream, esp. Dutch chocolate, is so comforting and good that if everybody ate it, there would be no warring nations! If all would sit down on the porch on a sunny afternoon and just talked, we would make so much more progress… Of course, this porch is in a city called Never Never Land!
Ernie,
Are you still going to produce Carb IQ?
We no longer see in our supermarket. Also, when will you be making the smaller ice cream? Truly, you make the most delicious ice cream. Thanks!
We love all the Turkey Hill products. My daughter while is school in Lancaster found your products. How pleased we were to see them in the Pittsburgh area. Now my daughter teaches in South Carolina and I package and send her favorites to her and take them to her when I go south.
Thank you for all the “Quality” products you make and your desire to keep the public formost in your products.
