FEATURED PET: SMOKEY THE CAT
Posted by: Turkey Hill Team
Christine L. from Barto, PA sent us this picture of her aunt Dottie’s cat, Smokey, sharing a few licks of ice cream. Smokey was 20 years old in this photo and was a fan of Turkey Hill ice cream his whole life. Smokey has since passed away, but this is one of Christine and her aunt Dottie’s favorite memories of their feline friend.
NOTE: Because some dogs and other pets are prone to lactose intolerance, care should be taken when feeding your pet ice cream. Like most “people food” treats, moderation is the key. Talk to your veterinarian if you have questions about your pet’s ability to eat ice cream.

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.

Adorable photo! I had to share it with a friend of mine who chairs the board of directors at my local animal shelter. Nice touch with the little health disclaimer!
September 4th, 2008 at 8:46 amWe have ice cream every night at pretty much the same time. If I don’t get up by 8:15 pm to get the ice cream, my dog starts whining and looking at me like “come on already, I want my ice cream!” If she’s sleeping, she’ll come into the kitchen all sleepy eyed, licking her lips and staring at the counter waiting. I swear she’s part human! It just shows that even animals enjoy Turkey Hill! By the way, I did check with my vet and he said it was fine to give her a little bit.
August 29th, 2008 at 2:09 pmEvery evening my mom has a bowl of ice cream and as soon as her spoon clinks against the empty bowl both the dogs perk their ears up and run up to her. They get so excited to lick the bowl!
August 26th, 2008 at 9:22 amgreat photo of this kittie lickin’ the cone, turkey hill, not just for humans, so good

August 25th, 2008 at 10:21 amVery cute!
Our dog Fritz loves to share our ice cream. He likes all flavors, butwe never give him chocolate or fudge containing ones.
August 25th, 2008 at 8:31 amWe had a dog that would start dancing in anticipation of getting to lick the empty ice cream carton when he would see my mom bringing one for him.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:59 pmEven a sweet cat knows how good Turkey Hill ice cream is! Nice memory.
August 24th, 2008 at 4:36 pmWe also have a pet cat. But the warning is to be taken seriously. Even if our cat couldn’t eat ice cream our freezer would still be stocked full of Turkey Hill.
August 24th, 2008 at 3:42 pmSmokey certainly isn’t the only one who loves Turkey Hill. It’s one of my favorite treats!

August 24th, 2008 at 1:40 pmThis is a wonderful picture, the expression on Smokey’s face tells you he is really enjoying the treat. Smokey looks amazing for being 20 years old in the photo, obviously loved, and well cared for. It’s so good to hear other pet lovers making life a little bit sweeter by sharing T.H. with their pets.
August 23rd, 2008 at 11:54 pmI guess all pet owners are guilty of this. I know we are. Cute kitty
August 23rd, 2008 at 8:52 pmI have missed seeing my ice cream journel but due to sad situations I have not been able to keep up so it feels good to get back with my ice cream lovers of Turkey Hill ice cream, by the way is there another kind??

August 23rd, 2008 at 1:48 pmMy Westie (Shaelynn) loves Turkey Hill Ice Cream. Every night she gets her dish of Vanilla, while we have another flavor. Oh I am sure she would also eat another flavor, but she likes Van. with a dollip of Peanut Butter on it. Gotta love them eating Ice Cream. I also had six poodles who loved TH, and I never had one dog ever get sick from eating Ice Cream. Funny though, none of them would eat DQ ice milk, and I don’t blame them.LOL. Linda
August 23rd, 2008 at 12:49 pmMy dogs sure love Turkey Hill Ice Cream , they even known what the carton looks like. They always get their own dish or we share a cone some times
August 23rd, 2008 at 12:24 pmToo cute, my cat also loved ice cream and she never had a problem having a few licks!!!!!
August 23rd, 2008 at 10:30 amWell kitties have always been fond of milk so it makes sense they’d love some natural ice cream
August 23rd, 2008 at 9:43 amWhen my brother-in-law was dating my sister they would ofter bring take out sundaes home for the rest of the family. Our cat, Bootsie, would just go bonkers before the lids were even removed from the sundae dishes. Needless to say we had to put him in another room and close the door in order to eat. When we were done he’d lick the dishes, chocolate syrup, marshmallow, nuts and anything else that was left. Of course, this was the cat that also loved vegetable soup.
August 23rd, 2008 at 9:43 amI have had several dogs and all liked to have their own ice cream whenever we ate it. Only ever gave them vanilla.
August 23rd, 2008 at 9:41 amWhat a cute cat. She sure looks like she was enjoying it.
August 23rd, 2008 at 9:01 amMy toy poodle, Bijou, lived with me all of her 17 years, 3 months, and 2 days.
August 23rd, 2008 at 8:52 amShe, too, enjoyed Turkey Hill Ice Cream,
BUT had flavor preferences! A favorite
would be lapped up from her dish quickly, then the little black nose would push against my leg for more!
YUMMY!

August 23rd, 2008 at 6:38 amWhat a great picture. I would love to share some Turkey Hill with this cat.
August 23rd, 2008 at 6:00 amI don’t know about mouse ice cream(eeewww) but you can get ice cream specifically made for dogs-one product is called Frosty Paws-maybe Turkey Hill should look into making ice cream for animals-by the way, do those turkeys on the hill eat ice cream? condolences to Christine and Aunt Dottie-did the Turkey Hill ice cream contribute to Smokey’s longevity?
August 23rd, 2008 at 5:46 amAs a teenager, I worked at an ice cream stand. A lot of customers ordered a cone for themselves, then soft-serve in a cup for their dog. But I never had a customer with a cat…I guess they are harder to take out on a leash! Does Turkey Hill make MOUSE ice cream????
