I have visited landcaster pa a very long time ago when i was a little girl and i loved it. i remember the amish and seeing the familys driving in their buggys and seeing the little kids out side.my sister ,her husband and their son went a few weeks ago and stayed for the weekend and had a very fun time.they said the food was the best that they have had.

I used to visit Lancaster County every year when my son was young and in the Cub Scouts and my husband and I were Scout leaders. My son was about 10 years old and younger then. He is now 45 years. That is how long ago we went. We loved the trip and had a good time while there. Now I am not able to go because both my husband and me are physically handicapped. If it wasn’t for that, we would be enjoying the trip with our grandchildren.

We consider Lancaster our “second home.”
Our visits are frequent and most enjoyable. We love to wonder the back roads and sort of go back in time when life was much simplier and less hurried.
We are continuing a tradition with our grandson that started with our son, taking him along with us to appreciate the beautiful countryside.

I have visited Lancaster many times. It is one of my families favorite weekend spots. We live close enough to be able to enjoy the day or the weekend and still be home early enough to finish our household chores before the work week begins once again!

I used to live about a mile from Turkey Hill Dairy. Now I live about 3 miles away.When my kids were small we used to walk up to the dairy and watch the calves being born. Then we would go back home to a snack of Turkey Hill ice cream. AAAAHH,memories!

My husband and I love the Lancaster area. We have celebrated our last 9 wedding anniversaries there. We love the people, the food and the scenery. We live in the Niagara Falls area of New York state, which also has wonderful people, food and of course one of the most breathtaking sights in the world. I recommend a visit to the falls also.

My Dad remembers visiting Lancaster when he was in boot camp 50 years ago. He said the food was wonderful. Now, we’ve been delighted to call Lancaster County home for over 15 years.

We’re just a few miles from Turkey Hill and have done the hike around it a few times. Last time we were at the overlook, we saw an eagle fly by at eye level. We also know many Turkey Hill employees, and they are great people. Turkey Hill’s a wonderful neighbor.

Lancaster County………….. LOVE it!! We try to get into the area as much as possible to visit. We are refered to as the “city folks” by all of our relatives. The entire one side of the family lives out that way. Our hope is to relocate into the area at some time. Would love for it to be SOON!

Roots Market on Tuesday, The Green Dragon Market on Fridays, the outlet malls, Eldreth Pottery, Wilbur Chocolate Factory, Sturgis Pretzels…all these things AND the most wonderful, fertile farmland. Lancaster County is a great place.

Lancaster County sounds like an amazing place to visit. I was there
with my family many years ago but I was quite young and basically remember the Amish with their horse and buggy and my mother buying jams and jellies that were delicious. I will plan a trip again soon to see all the areas that everyone has been blogging about. Thanks for all the info.

Wow what a great trip Lancaster is. I have pics from all the visits there with my kids as babies in their 1st snowsuit and many years after as they are now 13 & 15 yrs old. We did the 1st week after they were out of school as a celebration and a nice quiet escape from the busy life. Also have done the fall around Thanksgiving and would get jellies and pastries from Kitchen Kettle Village for our dinner. Love everything from the buggy rides to the Sturgis pretzel house and the buffets and of course a stop at the Rockvale outlets. Haven’t been there in the last couple of years due to financial difficulties and would love to visit again and make a w/e of it. Just the other day my kids asked me about a 1 room school house. Of course I think Turkey Hill icecream is the best but never had the chance to visit the dairy. Hope to be able to visit the quiet life again in the near future

We go to Lancaster every few months. It is a unique area, more farmland, and neat well kept homes and farms. We especially enjoy visiting several Amish households for things such as baked goods, pickles, pie crusts, fresh produce, and honey, as well as the bulk food store where some things are much cheaper than here. We never return home empty handed.

oh yeah!! we visit several times a year [ during all seasons]. we’ve been doing so since our daughter taught school there in the ’70′s. we especially like to go to the “green dragon” and others
and wineries too.not to mention some great places to EAT. allthough many changes have come to the area it’s stilla real FUN place to visit. we enjoy staying in ephrata a day or so and day trip to various sites!

We love to come to Lancaster County. We love the Sight & Sound Theater and the shopping, farm markets, etc. My family is PA Dutch, so I love coming to get some of the food I remember as a child growing up. My favorite (next to TH Ice Cream, of course) is ham loaf!

I have lived in Elizabethtown, Lancaster County for many years. Turkey Hill stores all around me, makes my mouth water just thinking of it. All the stores here sell the TH ice cream . That’s the first thing on \my grocery list.

I did not care for your polls answer choices. I had to answer “long time ago” when to me 5 years is not a long time (maybe as you age long time also grows). We had a great time there taking a private guided tour visiting homes, a carriage maker and other places. We do go to Hershey for the stockholder’s meeting and Reading to shop.

I have wonderful relatives who live in Leola, which is quite close to Lancaster, and also cousins who actually live in Lancaster. I try to visit often. Each time is a wonderful, unique, happy, heart-warming experience. there is so much to see and do, and the people in the area are so friendly and pleasant. Definitely a positive!

My daughter graduated from Millersville, so we saw lots of Lancaster County. She also worked close to Turkey Hill Farms and we went by several times. Of course we’ve visited the Amish Country too. I had a coupon for Breyers Ice Cream and it wasn’t anywhere near as good as Turkey Hill. I won’t buy it again.

LANCASTER CTY. WHAT A GREAT PLACE. HAVE BEEN GOING SINCE 1970. STILL GO AND SHOP AND EAT AND TRAVEL THE BACK ROADS. IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND PEACEFUL THERE. MY SISTER AND I TRY AND GET THERE A COUPLE OF TIMES A YEAR AND SOMETIMES GET TO GO IN THE WINTER. GREAT PLACE TO CURE THE WINTER BLUES. WISH TURKEY HILL HAD A TOUR. We would drive through Lancaster (Dutch)County,PA on the way to New York. Now it is Fall, it’s the best time to visited Dutch County,PA. The leaves are turning, country side is so colorful, the air is cool durning the day and cold at night and the food taste so good. I hope in the future can make it.

During my 12 years teaching the 7th and 8th grades at Queen of Heaven School in Cherry Hill, NJ, I took my students to Lancaster County for their class trip. Each year, I was more in awe with its beauty, serenity, and productivity than I was the year before. My “cherubs” absolutely loved it!! Unfortunately, we never had the priviledge of visiting Turkey Hill which was a tremendous loss.

My brother and sister-in-law live in Lancaster, she is from Ireland. She loves Lancaster. I visit whenever I can. I have been to Sight and Sound and years back to Shindig In The Barn, at least once a month for the Gospel groups. Loved stopping at Dutch Haven for the Warm Shoefly Pie with homemade whipped cream. Had a small Grocery Store and sold more Ice Cream in the winter than the summer, go figure. I guess because of the Holidays and baking pies to put the delicious TH Ice Cream on them, I love Mince Meat Pies with TH vanilla ice cream as well a Pumpkin and Apple Pies, Hmmmm. Linda

We visit Lancaster almost every year, mostly in the fall. Last year we did the train ride with my grandkids it was great! I think it is one of the most relaxing and scenic places in the USA. I enjoy the people, food, and shopping. Lancaster just has a warmth about it. My children know that I really love it there, so we go around my birthday in October. We pick pimpkins, eat at Millers and shop, go on a hay ride. It’s great, the people really make you feel at home! And of course we always have Turkey Hill ice cream to end off a really delicious dinner!

I visit the Lancaster area every year with my sister and stay at “Flory’s Cottages, in Ronk”. At Flory’s you will find a fully equipped home away from home. My sister is a quilter and loves going to all the fabric shops and buying fabric. Not being a quilter I’ll browse the shop and then find the front porch rocker and enjoy the quiet.

I get to Lancaster County often and especially like to shop at the outlets. It’s only a 40 minute drive for me so the gas is not an issue. NOTE TO KATHY P: If you were in Hershey you were not in Lancaster County. Hershey is in Dauphin County and is actually closer to Lebanon County than to Lancaster

Lived right down the road from the dairy for 10 years. Love Lancaster County, the neighbors I used to have, the beauty of the land, Muddy Run, tubing, canoeing, and so much more.I do miss the area alot.

I was at Hershey Park earlier this year in the Spring with my daughter for a Chorus competition. Prior to that, I have visited Hershey two times before and was in another area in Lancaster a while back. I look forward to visiting again the end of this month!

about a quarter of a century ago. I know that makes me sound ancient, but our oldest, Scott, who was then our only, was 2 at the time. He’s now 28. Did the whole Hershey/Amish thing. Found memories of the air smelling like chocolate in Hershey.
Does it smell like ice cream in Lancester, I wonder??

My g/f & I try to visit there when we can. We only have time for a “day trip”,, it takes us about 5 hrs each way and there’s just sooo much to do in Lancaster, we never have ENOUGH time. Guess we’ll need to plan an over niter some time or a weekended,, just so we can “do more”

We visit Lancaster County at least twice a year and add a third visit when we are able. We stay in Bird-in-Hand, visit the American Music Theater, Sight & Sound, Red Apple Dinner Theater, take the back roads tours, shop at Kitchen Kettle, Zooks, Intercourse Canning, Stolfus’ Meat Market, and of course, the outlet shops and we eat our fill at the smorgasboards. Then we head for home with all of our “provisions” of jelly, jam, dried corn, etc. to last us until our next visit. We love Lancaster County!

We have visited Lancaster and Lancaster County. We, in fact, had a trailer in Elizabethtown. All of our company visited Lancaster with us. We also visited every February President’s weekend for several years.
Turkey Hill and Lancester, perfect together.
