HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERNIE!
Posted by: Turkey Hill Team
Although he’s not one to make a big fuss about these sorts of things, we wanted to let everyone know that today is Ernie’s birthday. You may know Ernie as the ice cream know-it-all who answers your questions via the “Ask Ernie” link on the right. To us, he’s sort of an institution around here. He’s been with Turkey Hill for what seems like forever and he makes sure all the ice cream and iced tea operations are running smoothly. He’s loved by everyone and we all wish him a very happy birthday!
And just to embarrass him a little bit more, below is a picture of Ernie hard at work on the family farm when he was just a toddler. According to Ernie, this picture was taken sometime in 1940. Apparently if you want to grow up to be an official ice cream tester, you’ve got to get your foot in door at an early age!

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.

October 3rd, 2008 at 2:39 pmAlso thank you for answering all our questions. Now I know why you are such an expert, you started at such an early age!
Ernie, We hope you are having a happy birtday and we wish you many more and long good health. myself and hubby never had ice cream for our birthdays since i’m January and he is Christmas eve. Our frige had a small ice cube compartment until the 50’s which could not hold 1/2 gallon. Times are better now with bigger freezers and also home deep freezers so our kids, and now grandkids can have ice cream all year round.
October 3rd, 2008 at 2:11 pmHappy Birthday to Ernie. Have some TH Party Cake, there you have your ice cream and cake all in one. I wish you many more Birthdays. Linda
October 3rd, 2008 at 2:07 pmhappy birthday Ernie, is that a milk can you are carrying when you were younger. I say younger because you are still young. remember to have some ice cream while you celebrate the day
October 3rd, 2008 at 2:01 pmHAPPY BIRTHDAY, ERNIE and may you have many, many more! For those of us who were kids in the 40’s ice cream was a real treat! I remember well after WW II
October 3rd, 2008 at 1:55 pmwhen we got one of the first new refrigerators manufactured! and with a tiny, tiny freezer in it! First item purchased was a half-gallon of ice cream! — it almost filled that tiny freezer compartment completely!! Back then it really was a half-gallon in it, too! Maybe eating ice cream if what has given us this longevity! Keep eatin’!!
Ernie,Ernie,Ernie.I tolla you way before the Big War what would happen to you if you keep eating that iceacream.
October 3rd, 2008 at 1:39 pmHave the very happiest of birthdays, Ernie! And many more!
October 3rd, 2008 at 1:35 pmHappy birthday, Ernie. With our children and now grandchildren, it wasn’t a birthday unless we had ice cream, preferably an ice cream cake. So enjoy!

October 3rd, 2008 at 6:19 amHappy Birthday!!!!
I hope you celebrate with an extra serving of ice cream today!
October 2nd, 2008 at 5:46 pmHappy Birthday Ernie! I am wondering what an official ice cream tester has to celebrate his birthday? In our home some of us like ice cream cakes, others like a tradional cake with ice cream of course.
October 2nd, 2008 at 4:40 pmI was also raised in the 40’s and an ice cream treat was a big deal back then. The kids today don’t know how lucky they are to have such easy access and so many flavors available to them. Our frig was small with a very tiny freezer- no one stored ice cream at home then.
Again, happy birthday and many more years of ice cream testing.
Happy Birthday Libra !!!The scales are in your favor working with all that icecream!!!!!
