When she is done it is like there wasn't any ice cream in the carton at all. She would love to have that toy to carry around and as long as it dosn't taste or smell like your ice cream she won't chew it. However chocolate ice cream should never be given to dogs, because chocolate is poisonous to most animals (human’s just have a very high tolerance but still could die from eating too much, although they would likely just get sick and puke it up). Chocolate can cause arrhythmias in the heart and worms for dogs and it contain caffeine, theobromine, or theophylline, which can be toxic and affect the heart and nervous systems.. Vanilla is certainly a safe flavor. Low fat versions should be avoided as well though because the artificial sweeteners are not easily digested by dogs and can be toxic. Ice cream treats are even available in most local grocery stores called “frosty paws.” Too much ice cream can be a problem though because it is harder for dog’s digestive systems to process and break down a lot of dairy as they have less of the essential enzymes for lipid digestion. Also they have small amounts of the enzyme lactase, which breaks down the lactose in milk. This can result in diarrhea. Lactose-free milk products are available for pets.
