Happy new year to all! We hope everyone’s 2009 is going well and with every new year comes New Year’s Resolutions. Exercise more often, read more often, visit family more often…we’ve all made a few goals for the year ahead. But here’s a list of ice cream related resolutions adapted from an entry made here on the Ice Cream Journal last year. Enjoy checking these goals off your list in ’09:
1. Expand your ice cream horizons. Try one new flavor of ice cream per month.
2. Make homemade ice cream and invent your own signature flavor.
3. Explore ways to use ice cream in drink and dessert recipes.
4. Visit your local scoop shop more often.
5. Eat ice cream for breakfast (not often, but try it…you might like it!)
6. Use a special ice cream bowl and ice cream spoon.
7. Learn more about the history of ice cream and its production process.
8. Visit an ice cream factory.
9. Offer to buy a stranger an ice cream cone on a hot summer day (no guarantees with this one…he or she might just look at you funny and walk briskly in the opposite direction.)
10. Visit the Turkey Hill sampling tent at an event near you in 2009!

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
I will commit with vigor for Resolution #10.
Oh, thank you for these beautiful goals to shoot for.
Yes, over the past two weeks, I am FINALLY realizing the IMPORTANT part of ice cream, ESPECIALLY, TURKEY HILL ice cream in our lives. God gave us this! For his GLORY, prolly!
Well, I have so many ice cream stories to share, don’t know where to begin and this is just with stuff that’s happened to me over like the past two weeks?
I should explain them all, tell the stories, but, I don’t feel like it right now? Very NICE and funny stories though!
Well, at the Turkey Hill convenience store on Hershey Ave., in Lanc., I finally stood in front of the glass doors and CHECKED OVER ALL the ice cream flavors available. Trying to observe very good? First time I ever really cared to do such a thing really?
WELL! GOOD NEWS was, that I found the “Party Cake Ice Cream!” When I saw it, although I didn’t really wanna get it at that time, because there was already like 2 thingies of Turkey Hill ice cream in my fridge at the time, and there’s hardly no room going to be left in my fridge, ha ha, I couldn’t resist, I felt bad that Jillian couldn’t find it, and here I had it, and was taking it for granted! I also got another flavor, too, I think? 2 of them?
Well, I was wondering if you could extend an invitation to Jillian for me?
If she drove to Lancaster County, then, I could meet her at like the outlets or something? At a certain time, and she could follow me back to my housey, and I can give her some of my Party Cake ice cream that I already have in my fridge, and then, after we’re done eating our ice cream, I can take her to the Turkey Hill on Hershey Ave., so, she can get some of her own to take home? Then, she can drive back home, keeping it cool in a cooler maybe? OR, she could just spend a night in Lancaster County, visiting you guys, or go shopping or wander around, whatever, I would recommend she stay at the Hilton Garden Inn in Lancaster, but, she can stay at any hotel she wants, it’s not like we’re at a lack for hotels to spend the night at!
That would be so FUN if Jillian could come visit us!
Have more stories to tell ya’s, but, I’ll wait prolly. My son wants me to make him a BLT (Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato) sandwich? I never made one of those before in my lifey, I don’t think? My mother used to make them ALL the time when I was a child, but, I never really liked them, as I never got into eating fresh tomatoes like that, though I love tomatoe sauce? Just was never an appetizing meal for me? However, today, in a news article, Mr. President, George Bush, was saying that he likes BLT’s. So, normally, many times, when my son say’s “Mom, I’ll hungry,” I’ll ask him what he wants, and he says something like, “I don’t know, give me options.” So, I run down a list of what I could prepare for him, just like his own personal waitress, and this time, I added “do you want a BLT, bacon, lettuce and tomatoe sandwich), and he said “yes!” He chose the BLT. Ha ha. So, there was no tomatoes here in my housey, neither lettuce, and the bacon was prolly gone too, or at least down to the last two flimsy by now pieces…SO, it’s like midnight by this time, so, I told him I had to go to the Giant Supermarket on Columbia Ave., in Lancaster, to get the stuff to make his BLT, so, I went over there, and did some great shopping in that store, with nobody there! Got a TON of groceries while I was there, and of course, didn’t forget the bacon, lettuce and tomatoe.
Ha ha!
It’s now 2:12 a.m. and my son is still awake, and I still haven’t yet made him his BLT, but, I have the ingredients at least
Here is the news article about Mr. President that made me laugh!
http://news.aol.com/article/bushs-personality-shapes-his-legacy/292246?icid=200100397x1215896091x1201038448
Oh, have so much to tell you guys! But, I can tell you that tonight at the grocery store, I got a “nice” like Ice Cream scooper? So, I do now have a special untensil to school my ice cream again in my life, I may have purchased one like 20 years ago, but, I don’t recall…but if I did, that thing was long gone from life!
Ha ha ha!!
So much more I wanna tell you’s, I really need to get my sonny boy over to take a tour of the ice cream factory, only thing though is that “making your own ice cream at home goal,” I prolly won’t be able to get to that goal till maybe I’m like 70-years-old, I dunno?
Ha ha!
God bless!
Carolina!
I have eaten ice cream all hours of the day , but I never thought of breakfast! Thank you!!!!!!
Good Morning All of Turkey Hill fan and to Turkey Hill. I will try to do 1,5,8 and 10. I love Turkey Hill ice cream so much. I think it will be cool to have ice cream for breakfast. once in a while. I am going to try that one first then the try to taste different ice cream each month.
Happy New Year! I plan to try all of the Turkey Hill ice cream resolutions. I think I will start off with making one of the finalist recipes for breakfast, that way I can have Turkey Hill ice cream for breakfast and try it in a new way, a yummy dish. Thank you so much for always making me smile, and I definitely plan to buy ice cream more often. Might I suggest your resolution be to put it in stores on the west coast? I would love to buy Turkey Hill every week in stores.
Resolve to allow ice cream to touch your life on a regular basis and it will be a good year.
My family is famous for going on “Magical Mystery Tours.” They are road trips to places in PA that we have never been. I am usually the planner/driver. They always include at least one ice cream stop!
Good ideas for New Year resolutions. I don’t make resolutions, because I would probably break them. As far as trying different Turkey Hill Ice Cream, I do believe I tried all of them. Everytime a new flavor comes along I must find it. Linda
all great ideas-have already tried a lot of them-making your own ice cream is really easy and the end result is wonderful-fun to do on a hot summer day-meanwhile I will just get my Turkey Hill chocolate ice cream-re:#10-are you ever on Long Island, NY?
All those resolutions sound ver “do’able”,, and I would GLADLY do No. 1,, IF I could get my local grocery store to carry more flavors! I even made them a list of all the different flavors they COULD be carrying, the specials of the month, etc. But so far, they haven’t taken my suggestion.
I’m assuming there’s a list, somewhere, that would tell us the events Turkey Hill will be at this summer, so we could try & visit?
All those resolutions will do me no good as I have gained 10 pounds since I tasted Turkey Hill Egg Nog Ice Cream in Novmeber. I consumed about 3 boxes in December and have two boxes in my refrigerator. How can I lose those 10 pounds and still enjoy my favorite treat sitting in my refrigerator looking at me everytime I open the door?
#10 sounds good!
I’ll do my best.
I like your suggestions for resolutions
but as for #1 I’ve tried every flavor
our local supermarket carries.
#2- I’m too spoiled for that when I can get TH anytime.
#3- That I definetly will do.
#4- Can’t do that because they carry a
different brand.
#5- Have never had ice cream for
breakfast but will give it a try.
#6- Don’t have a special bowl and spoon
but will get them with giftcards I
got for Christmas.
#7- I’ve learned alot from visiting
the Turkey Hill website.
#8- We are planning to come to
Lancaster this summer.
#9- That could be interesting!
#10 Just let us know where you plan to
be in 2009.
Thanks for all the great ideas for the New Year. Hope Turkey Hill can include Long Island, New York as one of their sampling events.
Finally, some resolutions that would be easy and fun to keep.
Happy New Year!1
I am going to print out and leave on my freezer so I can follow all year, love the Resolution List!!
Well,we already did one resolution…#1 we tried Gertrude Hawk’s box of chocolates.Oh my there are no words to describe it. Except….FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!
well,sounds like a good idea
My number 1 resolution is to buy more “Boxes of Chocolate” to stock up to last me for a couple of month. I will stall the other resolutions for the Chinese New Year in about a month. Then I will stall again for the Hebrew New Years arount October and finally since I will be close to the 2010 Gorgonian New Year I’ll wait till then.
I have no problem trying one new ice cream flavor per month. Just tell me I won the 12 Days of Ice Cream contest and I’ll try all the flavors.
a gret list
Happy New Year! It sounds like a plan!
Happy New Year to all! I certainly will continue eating ice cream.
They sound like great resolutions to me! I will add them to my list. Happy New Year everyone! I look forward to all the fun in 2009 on the Ice cream Journal. Thanks Turkey Hill!
I think I will add the “visit an ice cream factory” to my list of things to do in 2009!
how about one new flavor a week?
Our store before Christmas had Turkey Hill on sale and I had several $1 coupons which they happen to be doubling and I saw a man trying to decide what flavor to buy — so I handed him one of my Turkey Hill $1 coupons to use. It made his day and mine a little brighter to know he could enjoy another carton of Turkey Hill for less money. So thank you Turkey Hill for giving me the coupons in the first place that allowed me to share the wealth.
I wish the Ice Cream Factory Tour could be Turkey Hill! Maybe you could create a ‘visitors center’ like Hershey has and let people ride through it to learn how it’s made, and buy all their ice cream, shirts, and TH stuff at the end.
I really enjoy watching Ernie do his thing on the Pennslvania cable network TV tours. I highly recommend it if it’s available to you.
I will keep the resolution of trying a new flavor of Turkey Hill Ice Cream each week. I just had my family over to my house for dinner tonight and we had the peppermint ice cream in pizzelle cups that I made…I was a big hit, we are going to get together at my house once a month for dinner and I will try a new Turkey Hill Ice Cream with my family. That is two New Years resolutions, that I will keep!!!!!!!!!!!!
All are good ideas to try. My favorite is #9, reminds me of the movie “Pay It Forward”. I do believe that is the one I will do 1st. Start the New Year with some sweet generosity. Happy New Year To Everyone!!!
Ice cream for breakfast has been a longstanding tradition for me! I have a Sundae on Sunday with the comics!
At least twice a week I have icecream for dinner as a rule. Never thought about doing it for breakfast
Does Turkey Hill offer plant tours? If so, when are they available?
well i am not going to stop eating ice cream for a resolution.
We’re glad to hear everyone is excited about these resolutions. As for the idea of trying a new Turkey Hill flavor every week, we can’t argue with that.
Some of us here at the office are helping each other stick to our personal New Year’s resolutions. We’ll do the same here on the Ice Cream Journal to help everyone stick to these!
And to answer Will’s question about Turkey Hill Dairy tours, unfortunately the Dairy isn’t set up for public tours. At least not yet. Who knows…maybe in the future we’ll be able to open our doors to the public.
Looking forward to trying some of your new flavors in ’09!!!
I have frozen yogurt quite a few times a week, after dinner. Would love to have it everyday, but have to watch the calories!! I love all of your ice cream products. They’re great!! Thanks.
Once you make your list of resolutions they are hard to keep. That’s probably the reason I never make any. Concerning Turkey Hill I will just continue to eat and enjoy the many flavors. That’s one goal I can reach with ease.
The only resolution I keep is to eat Turkey Hill ice cream at least 5 times a week, usually more often. I still like the old fashioned kind, butter pecan, neopolitan, etc. But I do try them all, add so much toppings plus whipped cream, where’s the ice cream.
oh how ice cream brings back older memeries
I still haven’t seen box of chocolate, caroline you sound like my kind of chocoholic! Being a NYer #9 resolution sounds interesting. I’ll let you know how they react!
two delicious.com
code: 712184488 Sure enjoy your wonderful flavors and would be extra sweet if I could receive one of your
great prizes.
Thank you
Irene
I was wondering about the Moose Tracks Icecream wether it has been recalled or not because of the peanutbutter scare thats going on. Please send me this information on this product, is it safe or not.
Thanks,
Anne Shaffer
Anne,
Regarding the peanut butter recall, you’ll be happy to know that all of our products have been tested and are safe. You can find out more about it here:
