ROUND ONE: THE ULTIMATE FLAVOR TOURNAMENT IS HERE!

Six weeks. 32 flavors. One winner. That’s the Turkey Hill Ultimate Flavor Tournament and it’s about to begin. Starting today, we’re pitting 32 of our best ice cream flavors against each other to determine which one has what it takes to take home the title of the “Ultimate Flavor.” Last year, Vanilla Bean was crowned the winner. Who will win it all this year? The power to decide rests with you!

Here’s how it works: Each week will feature a different series of match-ups, all voted on by you (see the polls on the right). We’ll start with 32 flavors (the “Thrilling 32”) and narrow the field down every week until one flavor, as determined by your votes, is crowned the champion. Of course, there will also be prizes. At the end of the tournament, we’ll give away a free one month supply of ice cream to 10 commenters chosen at random and one lucky reader will receive a ONE YEAR supply of ice cream.

To help make sense of it all, each Monday here on the Ice Cream Journal Ernie will be offering expert analysis of predictions for each match-up. Starting right now!

THE DUETTO MATCH-UP – Mango Duetto vs. Root Beer Duetto
“An exotic tropical flavor versus an all-American classic? This is what the Ultimate Flavor Tournament is all about. I see a win for Mango here, but it won’t be as easy after this round.”

THE DUETTO MATCH-UP (PART 2) – Cherry Duetto vs. Raspberry Duetto
“Two fruit flavors, but only one winner. That’s too bad, because both are great. This could go either way, the but traditional Cherry might have the edge here.”

THE LIGHT MATCH-UP – Light Recipe Extreme Cookies ‘n Cream vs. Light Recipe Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
“I’m an Extreme Cookies ‘n Cream fanatic. Everyone knows that. But up against Cookie Dough? That’s a tough one. Alright, I’ll go with the Cookies. Is anyone surprised by that?”

THE LIGHT MATCH-UP (PART 2) – Light Recipe Moose Tracks vs. Light Recipe Strawberry Cheesecake
“These Light Recipe flavors are a force to be reckoned with and these are two full-flavored heavyweights. I’m going out on a limb here and picking Cheesecake to upset the very popular Moose Tracks.”

THE LIGHT MATCH-UP (PART 3) – Light Recipe Banana Split vs. Light Recipe Skinny Minty
“The Light Recipe line is so robust, we had to add a third match up this year. This one features two lesser known flavors, but they’ve got a lot of heart and potential in this tournament. Who will win? It’s just too close to call.”

THE SPORTS MATCH-UP – Eagles Touchdown Sundae vs. Phillies Graham Slam
“Play ball! Yeah, that’s more of a baseball phrase, but both of these Philly flavors are going to put on a great show in this round. The Eagles scored a late touchdown to win this match-up last year, but I predict the Phillies’ World Championship will propel Graham Slam to a win this time around.”

THE PINT-SIZED STUFF’D MATCH-UP – Tastykake Peanut Butter Kandy Kake vs. Snyder’s of Hanover Chocolate Pretzel
“Good things come in small packages. If you don’t believe me, check out our Stuff’d line-up. Here’s two of our finest pint-sized treats going head-to-head, but only one will win. I’m going with Kandy Kake here, but I have a feeling Chocolate Pretzel will prove me wrong.”

THE DYNAMIC DUOS MATCH-UP – Caramel Cone Chaos vs. CocoNutz!
“This is a new flavor category for Turkey Hill and some might say the Duos line-up has an unfair advantage because they’re actually two ice cream flavors in one package, but I don’t think that’s the case. They’re rookies in this tournament and they’ll have to pay their dues. As for these two, CocoNutz! has an explanation point in its name, so you know it’s playing to win.”

THE YOGURT VS. SHERBET MATCH-UP – Orange Cream Swirl Frozen Yogurt vs. Fruit Rainbow Sherbet
“These are the only two non-ice cream flavors in the tournament and it’ll be interesting to see how far the winner of this match-up makes it. But I think there’s a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow in this match-up. Look for sherbet to win and potentially beat a few ice cream competitors in this tournament.”

THE LIMITED EDITION MATCH-UP – Gertrude Hawk Box of Chocolates (January) vs. Coconut Cream Pie (February)

“If you were lucky enough to try both of these flavors when they were out earlier this year (or still have some in your freezer), you know that this is a tough match-up. I’ve tried them both, and I still can’t predict a winner here.”

THE LIMITED EDITION MATCH-UP (PART 2) – Junior Mint (March) vs. Fried Ice Cream (April)
“Here are two more Limited Edition flavors and they couldn’t be more different. One’s a minty candy favorite and the other is a sweet Latin treat guaranteed to end any meal on a good note. I’m rooting for Fried Ice Cream here, but Mint might have enough power to emerge with a win in this one.”

THE PREMIUM MATCH-UP – Vanilla Bean vs. Cookies ‘n Cream
“Now we’re getting to the power players in this tournament. Last year Vanilla Bean won it all and I expect it to go far again this year. Sorry Cookies ‘n Cream, you’re not going to make it past the first round.”

THE PREMIUM MATCH-UP (PART 2) – Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup vs. Butter Pecan
“CPBC finished second in last year’s tournament, right behind Vanilla Bean. Look for another run at the title from this strong contender, which mean Butter Pecan will be defeated easily in this match-up.”

THE PREMIUM MATCH-UP (PART 3) – Dutch Chocolate vs. Party Cake
“This is an odd match-up. A traditional favorite like Chocolate against a wacky newcomer on the ice cream flavor scene. Party Cake has a lot of followers, which is rare for such a new flavor, but I don’t think it’ll be enough to take down this classic.”

THE HOLIDAY FLAVORS MATCH-UP – Egg Nog vs. Peppermint Stick
“Christmas has come and gone, but these flavors are so great, we had to include them in the this year’s tournament. I’d be happy to find either one in my stocking, which is why I can’t really choose a winner here. Okay fine, Egg Nog by a reindeer’s whisker!”

THE ALL NATURAL MATCH-UP – All Natural Mint Chocolate Chip vs. All Natural Coffee
“Sales of our All Natural line-up benefit the Lancaster Farmland Trust, and you can’t argue with that. As for which of these two charitable treats will win in the first round, I have to go with Mint Chocolate Chip.”

  2. Sue Ezard says:

This is a great idea! A contest, a reminder of the excellent Turkey Hill flavors and postings on new flavors and ideas! Gee…I’m getting the urge for some ice cream….

  3. Heather says:

mmm, junior mint. i haven’t seen this one yet but it sounds great. i’ll have to go check it out. :)

  4. Lisa says:

Party Cake is the best! I first bought it for my boys because I don’t really like cake and most frostings. But this was fabulous. So addicting. Love, love, love it. Now I buy it for me and let my family share.

  5. Lisa says:

Oh I should read the entire article before commenting. I also love peppermint stick. It is perfect on the Hot Fudge Sundae Cake that I make.

  6. Delia says:

This is so cool! I can’t wait to see which one wins.

  7. Anita Harding says:

I scream – we scream – we all scream for Turkey Hill ice cream!

  8. Turkey Hill Team says:

We’re glad to see that everyone is so excited about this contest. It’s one of our favorites each year.

Also, we’d like to welcome all of our new readers. We’re glad to have you as part of the Ice Cream Journal community!

    May the best flavor win!

  9. Mandy says:

    Light recipe moose tracks rocks!

  10. Victoria says:

Peppermint stick is my favorite flavor.
It’s only available at Christmas time but I could not find it anywhere in Baltimore, MD in 2008. I was very disappointed and hope it’s more widely available this coming Christmas.

  11. Ariel says:

I love the light recipe banana split. There are some very hard decisions to make when voting since it is all so good.

  12. Shawn says:

Cookie Dough light is heavy on taste!

  13. Tom says:

Since my first taste, no flavor of any brand has topped Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup. When I was a kid there were a number of times when I would sit and pick out the peanut butter w/my fingers while the chocolate ice cream melted. Sticky, but so good!

  14. Diane says:

    Party Cake! yum.

  15. Karen says:

I loved this contest last year and forgot all about it until receving the email this morning. I can’t wait for the outcome.

  16. Karen says:

I take this way too seriously and have to look at descriptions of all the flavors I have never tries in order to cast my vote.

  17. Karen says:

It’s a very dreary day in NY. This contest definatley cheered me up.

  18. Mary McKenna says:

Have always loved ice cream. When I was a youngster we only could get about four or five flavors, and certain times of the year only flavors like peach or strawberry. What a wonderful selection Turkey Hill provides us with now. Keep them coming!!!!!

  19. Brett A. Reed says:

Phillies Graham Slam is also great to snack on while watching a game! Spring and the start of the baseball season is almost here.

  20. Thomas says:

Too bad they don’t have all these flavors in Akron, OHIO

  21. Mark says:

The best Turkey Hill Flavor is their Rocky Road. I don’t like any other brand of Rocky Road. The marshamallows are whipped throuhout the chocolate and is unbelivably tasty.
Unfortunately, Turkey Hill Rocky Road is only at one store out by me. I make the trip and buy in bulk. The mint choco chip is the next best flavor.

  22. kathy whitehead says:

my husbands favorite ice cream ever is cherry vanilla so we are rooting for something on this order to win. our granddaughter introduced us to the party time ice cream and it is great too.

  23. Heidi says:

I’m in 100% agreement with Karen…Nothing like TH March Madness to brighten up a dreary NY day! BUT, 100% agreement with Ernie’s picks? Not so much…Cheesecake could never dance with Moosetracks!!!

  24. barry says:

there are only 15 match-ups posted to vote on. missing is THE ALL NATURAL MATCH-UP – All Natural Mint Chocolate Chip vs. All Natural Coffee.

    tough choices all!

  25. Elise says:

I am glad to see that the light flavors are a kind of ice cream to vote for. I love root beer floats, so I was glad to see an ice cream flavor that has root beer in it as a choice. It was fun to vote and Turkey Hill always brings back fun childhood memories of Lancaster County for me!

  26. Barbara Leibowitz says:

    Love those chocolate covered pretzels

  27. Barry says:

I’m pulling for coconut cream pie, too. But then there is strawberry cheesecake, and …. Time to go and have a cone!

  28. Amanda says:

    Light Recipe Moose Tracks! yummmmmy

  29. Bill says:

Box of Chocolates is the best Limited Addition Turkey Hill ice cream.

  30. Melissa says:

How much fun! Saw a flavor or two I haven’t yet tried. I’ll have to look for them next time. Love trying new flavors. All time favorite is still original vanilla.

  31. Kim says:

    Moosetracks all the way!

  32. Alaina says:

Ice cream is my religion, and I worship at the Chapel of Turkey Hill.

  33. Kim says:

    Moosetracks all the way! ;-)

  34. Amanda says:

This is better than the NCAA tournament. Ultimate winner: Moosetracks!

  35. Kim says:

    Yay Moosetracks!

  36. Amanda says:

    Anything peanut butter!

  37. John says:

    Let the games begin!

  38. Marcia Donner says:

Junior Mint all the way! Yummy!

  39. Dennis says:

    Moosetracks is awesome

  40. Rebecca King says:

I was thinking Party Cake was “too busy” when I first saw it, but tried it anyway and now it is my hands down favorite.

  41. Chris says:

Any of Turkey Hill’s mint ice creams could be my favorite.

  42. George Sisak says:

Junior mints are my favorite and the beat thing ever put in ice cream.

  43. Bernice says:

As a seasoned IceCream-aholic I have to confess that I have tried almost every flavor that was up for voting. Yum is the word! Asking to pick a favorite Turkey Hill ice cream flavor is like asking a mother to pick a favorite child. :) But, Root Beer Duetto ranks way up there. :)

  44. Cheryl W says:

You mean I have to wait til April to try Fried Ice Cream?! How will I hold out that long?

  45. Linda says:

I can’t wait to try the Junior Mint. I love trying all the new flavors. The only hard part about “Limited Edition” is you can only get so much and then it’s gone. But oh, while it’s there, Yum!

  46. Patty says:

Cherry Duetto: Is so smooth and refreshing. The creamy vanilla ice cream mixed with the cherry quenches your thirst as well as taking care of the sweet tooth. Also great for milkshakes!

  47. Andy says:

I hope the little pint-sized Peanut Butter Kandy Kake wins out!!

  48. Kim Earle says:

C’mon all you coconut cream pie lovers, vote, vote VOTE !!! This flavor rocks !!

  49. Tina Ingham says:

I can’t wait for Fried Ice Cream. It’s even better than the real fried ice cream you get in a restaurant!

  50. Laurie says:

    GO GO CO-CONUT Cream Pie!!

  51. Nancy N says:

Go Junior Mints! You can do it!!!!!

  52. Mary Lou says:

Since I have eaten pretzels & ice cream together for years, the “Snyder’s Of Hanover Chocolate Pretzel” sounds like a winner to me!!!

  53. Tim Mooney says:

    Eagles Touchdown Sundae….YUM!!!

  54. Mark P says:

Yes, that all-natural head-to-head, where’d it go? If you’re looking for votes here: coffee, Coffee, COFFEE!

  55. Mark P says:

coffee, Coffee, COFFEE! Since there are no radio buttons for the All-Natural comp.

  56. Jacqueline Seewald says:

The voting was fun. Some great flavors I’d love to try. Hope our local stories order more variety. I’ve asked!

  57. Karen says:

What happened to the Mint Chocolate Chip tournament? Or did you just know that Mint Chocolate Chip would be the winner anyway? :)

  58. Diane says:

Sun is shining, and we have had weather in the 70′s! Great time to think about ice cream! Love this contest already.

  59. Jennifer Barr says:

I didn’t know turkey hill was making fried ice cream! I’ll be on the look out for it :)

  60. Deb says:

What happened to Chocolate Marshmallow?–my absolute favorite1 I didn’t even see it on the list! How can anyone be a plain vanilla kind of person? I t just seems strange to me that Vanilla would win over all of these other terrific flavors–well, we shall see!

  61. Terri says:

Light Moose Tracks!!! A sure winner!!

  62. Ruth, PA says:

    Whoo hoo!

We love mint chip and chocolate peanut butter…but not together LOL!

  63. Barbara says:

My all time favorite is Butter Almond
….so hard to choose a second favorite… I love all the Turkey Hill flavors! YUM!!

  64. Patti Sherman says:

Fried ice cream in a box?? I have not seen this but will look for it!

  65. CB says:

    I love them all!

  66. Laura Rizzo says:

I vote for Coffee in the All-Natural category missing from the right margin.

I have to say, I was a bit disappointed in the Box of Chocolates. I expected a lot from you because your products are FABULOUS but that was a weak effort for me. Not enough chocolate taste, not enough variety. Step it up!

However, your Duettos are the best thing going and I wish that the Chocolate Coconut flavour was in this competition- we adore it! We serve it to guests and it always gets rave reviews. Truly exceptional.

  67. Marcie says:

I love Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup!

  68. Bill says:

How do you pick only one–I would eat ANY/ALL of these!!!

  69. Denise says:

    So much better than basketball!

  70. Denise says:

Where is the all natural match up – Mint chocolate chip is my all time favorite

  71. angela says:

Voting was great, but ever since I moved to Pittsburgh I have trouble finding my favorite flavors or some of the new ones i would love to try.

  72. Beth says:

What fun!!! With this contest, no is a loser. Go peanut butter cup!

  73. Tom says:

Cherry duetto is one of my favorites, but as of now it is losing to Rasberry,Victory to the underdog! I also try to pick what my family likes too…

  74. Anne says:

    I LOVED Box of Chocolates!
Why isn’t it on the list?

  75. Judy says:

Good grief, it’s 9:28AM and my mouth is watering for ice cream!!!

  76. Chris says:

Love that Party Cake flavor…hopefully the Cinderella flavor of the tournament! We can beat that old hat Dutch Chocolate, and move on!

  77. Tara Forsburg says:

Go Coconut Cream Pie!!! Go! Fight! Win! Yay!

  78. Linda Barnett says:

Anything with mint – or peanut butter – or marshmallow – or chocolate – or, or, or.

  79. Kate says:

I love this tournament! I can’t wait to try the Dynamic Duos flavors but I have yet to see them in stores :(

  80. Kevin says:

boy there are plenty of flavors that are not around in my stores, I will ahve to keep a eye out for them.

  81. Kevin says:

I will have to keep a eye out for some of these flavors that are not in my stores. They all look good

  82. Nancy says:

Oh my….ice cream email first thing in the morning! For breakfast, I’ll have…

  83. john says:

you have to love egg nog!

  84. Eileen Hauck says:

I think I need an ice cream fix ASAP! but it’s only 10am! Tastykake Peanut Butter Kandy Kake is THE BEST!!

  85. Amy says:

When it comes to listing things I cannot live without, the list is fairly small and to the point. I won’t list everything though the usual food, clothing, shelter is there as is my wonderful family.

However, there is one other entry on the list and that is Turkey Hill All-Natural Coffee Ice-Cream. I won’t list these things in terms of importance because I think I may end up with a few rather annoyed family members…;-)

  86. Jeffrey says:

I’ve made this suggestion before. I think Turkey Hill should add a double churn (lite) coffee ice cream with low fat fudge swirl. This would be a real contender for favorite flavor.

  87. Bob Kessler Jr says:

I always look forward to this tournament each year. I have my eye on the winner. Let’s see what happens in the next few weeks.

  88. Kim says:

2,4,6,8 Who do we appreciate!!!! Turkeyyyyyyy Hill

  89. Sharon says:

I had a hard time with the sports match up both flavors are great.

  90. debbie F. says:

    Let the games begin….
Hopefully the dynamic duos will make it to my area before the voting ends… it’s hard to vote when you havent tasted the new entries.

  91. Eileen says:

    Hooray for Peppermint Stick!

  92. Richard Gainey says:

Peppermint and Egg Nog ice cream from Turkey Hill, It’s like having Christmas 365 days a year!

  95. PennyHernandez says:

Turkey Hill makes the best light ice cream by far!!!!

  96. Edie says:

All these choices- makes it very difficult to decide. Not enough room in my freezer so I can only pick one at a time.

  97. Karen says:

Now I know why Turkey Hill stopped making the VERY BEST ice cream ever made–Butter Brickle! cause no other ice cream could ever stand a chance to win!!!! Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup is my second BEST!!

  98. Tom O. says:

Turkey Hill gives us all so many choices to choose from! That is a blessing in of itself, because we never get tired of deciding which ice cream sherbet, or duetto to eat. I have not seen any other ice cream maker who spoils us all so well! Thanks Turkey Hill for all the delicious flavors to make our choices from!

  99. Cayenne says:

I LOVE Turkey Hill Ice Cream. I just wish they would bring back Death by Chocolate. Dark Chocolate anything is great!!!!!!

  100. Susanne says:

    Light Moose Tracks, Yum!
Haven’t seen some of these flavors.
Turkey Hill is a great ice cream company.

  101. Marion says:

One of my very favorites is Chocolate Chip Malt–I wish it was on the survey, and I wish I could find it in my store. It is WONDERFUL!

  102. Terry Warren says:

What a decision – Tastykake P-nutbutter Kandy Kake and Snyder’s of Hanover Choc. Pretzel!!! Felt a little disloyal since live about 10 miles from Snyder’s and purchase their products, but Tastykake PB KK my all time favorite
forever!! Think you can make that in “light”?

  103. bruce says:

I bough a new chest freezer to stock
    and try all the favors.

  104. Karah says:

All these flavors are making my mouth water – I wish I had a bigger freezer!

  105. Elizabeth Pyle says:

Mmmm they all sound so yummy! I wish I could try them all!

Chocolate Peanut Butter cup is still my favorite!!!!!

  108. Kathy says:

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup is still the best!!!!

  109. alicelynne says:

I had a hard time with the first two choices. This is going to be tough!!!

  110. Alaina says:

    Keep those light flavors coming!!!

  111. Donna says:

It is sometime hard to choose between the great flavors!

  112. GES says:

What ever happend to TH Chocolate Decadence—Regular & Light??

    Should be in the list!

  113. Marilyn Adams says:

You scream and I’ll scream but only for
Moosetracks, well any other Turkey Hill Ice Cream, still the creamest and bestest for us big kids, well little ones too…..

  114. Nina M. says:

A bounty of flavor choices and rich, creamy sensations — the economy may be tough, but Turkey Hill treats us like royalty! Thanks for an affordable treat in troubled times and an election that’s a light-hearted exercise in freedom of taste! I’d cast my vote for ALL the TH flavors, but stuffing the ballot box is illegal, so I’ll have to settle for stuffing my tummy!

  115. Kimberly says:

So many yummy flavors! I wouldn’t mind being a taste tester!

  116. Joan Hutzley says:

I think that free samples of the junior mint should be given out so that we can properly judge the winner for that category. Waiting with spoon in hand!

  117. Judy says:

disappointed pumpkin and chocolate marshmallow were not choices.Maybe next round I hope. I just got to have these 2 but not together mind you. Love you product keep up the good work. :)

  118. Sara B. says:

WOW!! I have to get started on trying some of these flavors. Since I LOVE chocolate, I fell in love with Gerturde Hawk’s Box of Chocolates. On my MUST try are Tastykake peanut butter kandy kake, Snyders chocolate pretzel, and chocolate peanut butter cup. Oh dear, I can feel the clothes getting tighter already.

  119. Janet Smith says:

My grandson and I both LOVE Extreme cookies and cream. it is almost as good as the old Death by Chocolate.

  120. Geoffrey says:

I have to vote for Coconut Cream Pie. It’s my favorite flavor ever! Especially since the Mango and Green Tea Smoothie was discontinued. Hopefully my votes will help keep the great flavors around.

  121. Cara says:

    Go Cherry Duetto!!!!!

  122. Joe Fox says:

Why can’t we have them all. It was too tough knocking out 50% of the flavors like that. Plus I really need to keep my eye our and try that Junior Mint ice cream. Yum!

  123. Michelle says:

Go Party Cake!!! My kids would disown me if there wasn’t Turkey Hill Party Cake ice cream in the freezer.

  124. Cathy Tennaro says:

Turkey Hill is the best by far…. keep up the great work!

  125. Cathy Tennaro says:

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Cocunut Cream Pie!
Turkey Hill is the best by far…. keep up the great work!

  126. Rick B says:

    The coconut flavors are AWESOME.
Coconut duetto is like a “healthy” frozen Almond Joy that melts in your mouth.

  127. LaureliB says:

Wow, I found some new ones I must find and try. My taste buds thank you.

  128. Donna says:

Party Cake, Coconut Cream Pie and Eggnog are three of my all time favorites. I only look forward to winter just for the Eggnog ice cream, mmmmmmmm bet it would make a tasty milkshake.

  129. BETTY says:

    junior mint all the way

  132. Dani says:

Ya’ll had to know you’d hear from me on this one. I’m still lobbying to have the best Turkey Hill flavor of all time in this tournament! Guess my Baked Apple Dumpling is just ice cream’s version of the Cubbies…

  133. Jessie says:

Last week, my family and I bought 10 different Turkey Hill ice cream flavors (special @ Martin’s)and we love the New Junior Mint and the Strawberry and Banana Duetto. Thanks to Turkey Hill for sending the 2009 Calendar and the coupons inside. It’s really hard finding coupons in the local paper for your ice cream. We love every flavor! Keep up the great and creative work that you all do so well. Here’s a suggestion on a another Duetto flavor Pineapple or even Cookies and Cream. What do you think?
    Thanks a bunch!

  134. Patti Sherman says:

Your Raspberry Duetto is delightful, delicious & most of all yummy!

  135. maureen says:

i can’t believe with all those great flavors vanilla bean won last year and is in the lead this year. not that i have anything against it, but really! all those great flavors and that wins? if it were up against tin roof it wouldn’t! tin roof fed me through 3 pregnancies!

  136. Mimi says:

Peppermint Stick brings back the sweet memories of days gone by. It is one of my favorite flavors as a children growing up in the 50′s. MMMMMM…..tasty, refreshing and oh so good! Thanks for the memories!

  137. gianna says:

i enjoy many of the different t.h. flavors….but the natural chocolate is still my favorite…and i can understand why vanilla bean won…it’s fantastic on it’s own, but it can be a terrific base flavor for your imagination to play with and come up with your own personal concoction!

  138. Jaycob says:

I wish some of these flavors were at my grocery store, they sound good!

  139. Claire says:

HooWee! Now THIS is the type of sport I can get into!! TH is the best ice cream around! Rah Rah Rah!!!

Love all the flavors, no favorites here!!

  140. Meghan Scannell says:

Turkey Hill never ceases to amaze me…just when midterms have me super stressed, I’m burnt out from 40 hour school + 40 hour work weeks, and down in the dumps with bills for graduate school applications, graduation expenses, and traveling expenses….there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have this daily blog to look forward to! None of my friends really understand how much ice cream really means to me and how positive of an effect it can really have on me. Not only does it give me calcium for my bones (i was diagnosed with osteopenia), protein for my work-outs, energy for my late night studying, but the delicious flavor is truly a decadent treat the satisfies me and releases natural endorphens to make me feel good. I’ve never been that into basketball, but this tournament is certainly one I will follow religiously! I care so much about ice cream and am so passionate and opinionated about the flavors that I can barely control my excitement. In fact I have to stop writing now so I can go vote!!!

  141. Norm says:

I am waiting for Chocolate Almond, love that combination

  142. Mike Kealy says:

    St. Patrick’s Day-Junior Mints what a combo.

  143. Cindy Gerhart says:

Things just aren’t right around our house if we don’t have at least 3 flavors of Turkey Hill in the freezer!

  144. Dara says:

Looks like some tough competition! Go Eagles Touchdown Sundae!

  145. Andy says:

Turkey Hill ice cream has been a favorite of mine for many years. Due to military obligations, my family and I were moved to North Dakota where unfortunately we were not able to find any Turkey Hill products. After many years of having to settle for much less, we are finally back in an area thriving with outstanding Turkey Hill ice cream flavors. One of my absolute favs is Mango Duetto. It is an excellent combination. Thanks Turkey Hill! It’s great to have you back in our lives!!!

  146. Karen Meyers says:

Coconut Cream Pie, Party Cake, and Vanilla Bean are my personal flavor favorites. I am grateful that Party Cake is available at any time of the year. Thank you for creating the many wonderful flavor choices.

  147. Tina Ingham says:

Any Turkey Hill icecream is worthy to eat. I just wish the stores in the Rochester,NY area would carry more of the limited edition flavors. It’s very hard to find them before they are gone.

  148. Robbin L. Netz says:

#1 GERTRUDE HAWK BOX OF CHOCOLATES !!!!
It just doesn’t get any better. Wish this flavor was available ALL the time. The strawberry-banana duetto is my “new” Turkey Hill addiction…pure YUM!

  149. Toni says:

Amazing, but even with so many flavors, I always come back to Mint Chocolate Chip. I just love it!

  150. Kim says:

Thanks for offering such a variety of flavors, especially in the Light Recipe version. However, I strongly agree with the comments of others regarding the lack of availability. It’s difficult to get our local supermarkets to carry many flavors. Anything you/we can do to change this??

  151. Stefanie Schmidt says:

You can’t go wrong with any Turkey Flavor. This is the most delicious competition ever! I would love one of these prizes!

  152. Beth Katz says:

All Natural Mint Chocolate Chip is my favorite ice cream. Choosing between Touchdown Sundae and Graham Slam is hard. They are both so yummy.

  153. Angie P. says:

This is a fun match-up; I look forward to seeing which flavor comes out on top. (And gosh, people, let’s get more inventive than Vanilla…although it IS delish!) My vote for the tops is Mint Chocolate Chip; always been a favorite.

  154. Pat G says:

I love all the Light Recipe varies!

  155. Sue says:

i love the junior mint–SOOOOO refreshing–nothing better than chocolate and mint together!

  156. Rebecca P says:

Making us choose between Egg Nog and Peppermint Stick is just evil, I tell ya! PLEASE Kepp them both aorund for a little longer next holiday season!

  157. Turkey Hill Team says:

Hello to all of our new readers! We’re so happy to see all of you and hope you decide to stick around and become a regular part of the Ice Cream Journal community.

As for the Ultimate Flavor Tournament, the votes are pouring in at a record rate and it’s shaping up to feature some very interesting match-ups in Round 2.

  158. Randy says:

Gertrude Hawk Box of Chocolates- I know its a limited flavor….but this was sooo good! You should consider it a permanent fixture on the flavor roster!

  159. Roxann says:

I never bought Turkey Hill ice cream because I didn’t know the brand. However, the Party Cake flavor intrigued me enough to purchase it. WOW!!! It is now my favorite ice cream and flavor of ice cream. I have since tried the Coconut Cream Pie, Mango Duetto, Light Recipe Moose Tracks, Vanilla Bean, All Natural Coffee (great mixed with the Vanilla Bean for a latte taste), and the butter pecan. While I’ve enjoyed all the flavors, Party Cake is still my favorite. I would love to see you make a light flavor that combines the coffee and vanilla with some hazelnuts for a hazelnut cappuccino flavor.

    Now where are the coupons?

  162. Jim Sweetman says:

The matches so far are heavy on the peanut butter flavors. C’mon mint lovers, knock those peanuts out!

  163. L. Sanchez says:

I absolutely LOVE Turkey Hill Ice Cream! Especially the Light Recipe versions. You make it so easy to feel better about splurging on ice cream when there is less calories. The light ice cream still retains the fantastic taste and texture too. Do I have a favorite flavor? There are too many to list but my favorite indulgence has to be Mint Chocolate Chip

  164. Robin Ames says:

Mmmm… just thinking about Egg Nog and yummy Party Cake makes me want to skip dinner and go straight for dessert!!

  165. Jason Raymond says:

Oh wow, I wonder what this “Fried Ice Cream” flavor will be like. It sounds delicious and I’m looking forward to it. Even though I like Junior Mints, the April Limited Edition might just taste better. Anyway, in round 2 there definitely should be some more competition. =)

  166. Ellen says:

When I visited my brother in Philly from CT I got to try the Phillies Grand Slam…YUMMMMM! PLEASE keep it is distribution!

  167. Lori B says:

I was just talking to my friend today and we got on the subject of eating Turkey Hill icecream. My favorites are definatly “Moose Tracks”, “Rootbeer Duetto”, “Eagles Touchdown Sundae” (even though i like the Cowboys), and most definatly “Light Recipe Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough”. I sware it was so weird, I came home to an e-mail with all my favorite flavors in this torunament! I hope my flavors go far. <3 You just have to absolutely love Turkey Hill you guys are amazing!

  168. Sharon says:

What a fun contest! I enjoyed making my selections, and I hope something more interesting than vanilla wins this year. My favorite is Chocolate peanut butter cup.

  169. Michele Moon says:

I’m looking forward to the tournament! This is my first time participating. I’d have to say my “ultimate” favorite flavor is the light strawberry cheesecake flavor. I love the Eggnog holiday flavor as well. Looking forward to seeing which flavor wins this time! Best part is, there is a Turkey Hill store about 4 blocks from where I live and I can pick up my favorite flavors any time!

  170. saminder gumer says:

this is a great. i love all the flavors and like the opportunity to get to pick the winning one. i would love to suggest some of the flavors next time. can’t wait to see who wins.

  171. Dale says:

Where’s my favorite flavor EVER??!! I hardly ever get to eat it because it’s only in the stores on occasion. It’s chocolate malt ice cream with mini malted balls in it – to die for!! It’s a Light ice cream but you’d never know it. It doesn’t lack in taste in spite of that. I think it’s called Choco Malt or something. Anyway, that should definitely be in the running! Best ice cream I’ve ever eaten in my whole life, and I’m approaching 60. Mmmm, wish I could have some now.

  172. vicky f says:

I can’t believe ‘Party Cake’ is not winning it’s match! Your ‘Party Cake’ flavor blows away all the other ice cream brands similar flavors. It’s got that lovely melted cake frosting taste swirled through. mmmmm…it’s yummy! Come on everybody – vote for PARTY CAKE!!!

I want to congratulate, and thank, you for your products at Turkey Hill. I have food allergies to chocolate and different nuts so Turkey Hill’s selection of ice creams has been very much appreciated by me, and I’m sure many other people who may have allergies as well. I have enjoyed your Strawberry Cheesecake and Party Cake “Many” times as well as other flavors that I can dietarily safely enjoy. You give me many different flavors to choose from which is so refreshing because not many companies cater to people who either can’t eat, or do not like, chocolate and/or nuts. Please don’t discontinue those flavors I’ve mentioned, and keep doing the great job of making us all so happy with your product!

  176. greg brown says:

Come on party cake, I know u have it in you!

  177. Michael says:

    moose tracks is the best

  178. Arden says:

Still haven’t tried the Gertrude Hawk Box of Chocolates. Didn’t buy it, then it was gone! Bummer.

  179. Frank says:

how can Butter Pecan be behind? there’s no way unless the votes were influenced by the new administration!

  180. Vicki Wagner says:

Nothing can beat the versatility of good old Vanilla Bean. Besides flavor, it’s the best bet for any occasion simply because it’s so “all-purpose”. You can add just about anything sweet to make something new and exciting. My personal favorite is to sprinkle Ovaltine chodolate malt powder over Vanilla Bean. Yum!

  181. Mary says:

I wish I lived closer to Lancaster–so I would have a better selection of Turkey Hill to choose from. There were flavors in your Ultimate list that I never heard of! Hope to get down your way this summer.

  182. Debbie P says:

  185. Elaine C. says:

I am so glad I live in Lancaster County, I love walking into a Turkey Hill or grocery store and seeing what new flavor is available from TH!

  186. Elaine C. says:

  187. Dara says:

Turkey Hill ice cream is great. I love the All Natural Recipe flavors the best. Sad to see All Natural Neapolitan is not on here (I’ve been on that kick lately) but many other great flavors are represented. It will be fun to see how this all turns out.

  188. Dara says:

Jack you are so right, what the Eagles did is disappointing – but the great combination of chocolate and peanut butter in the Eagles Touchdown Sundae is awesome!

  189. Beverly From Lake Wynonah says:

The TastyKake PB Kandy Kake Ice Cream is the BEST! Imagine 2 of Pennsylvania’s finest clashing together to make the best of both worlds (Turkey Hill Ice Cream and Tastykake)..yum yum.

In Januray a new limited flavor was introduced ” Box of Chocolates” (my husbands favorite) and in February, Coconut Cream Pie (my favorite). PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, consider adding these two flavors to be available all year round.

  192. Bill Fitzpatrick says:

I love really coffee! When it comes to ice cream I’ve tried them all, most are a bit to sweet, not a natural flavor. Then I tried your philly style coffee.I know I should try more of your flavors and always intend on doing so , but when I reach into those freezer doors at the market, a philly style coffee always comes out.Thank you all at Turkey Hill and please keep it coming.

  193. Carolyn McKinney says:

After I quit smoking, I made changes to my diet so that i am eating healthier in hopes that I wouldn’t gain weight. I love your products because I can have a serving of the “good stuff” and not feel guilty! Thank you so much!

  194. al says:

    MINT ! MINT ! MINT !

  195. Jiya says:

Gertrude Hawk Box of Chocolates — please, please, please, please make it a year ’round flavor! It disappeared way to quickly from the stores — and from my freezer at home.

  198. Fran says:

My favorite is not there!!!! Where is Black Cherry? Turkey Hill’s Black Cherry is the best ever.

I would like to express my disappointment with your company following the other ice cream companies with your change of packaging going from 4 quart containers to 3quart containers. It is difficult to find value these days.

  199. Helen York says:

I have been known to eat ice cream in an unheated house in Northern Maine in January. Yes I love it. But my one complaint is…I find most ice cream too sweet. Making it light is just cautting the fat. Can you make a flavor or two that have about half the sweetening???

  200. Helen York says:

Geesh ..Ok…I like the vanilla, because it is not too sweet! I love ice cream not sugar!

  201. Rebecca King says:

    Let’s go manGO Let’s go.

  202. alice trotta says:

I sure wish I had stocked up on January’s Gertrude Hawk’s box of Chocolate Ice Cream. It was the best…and I am not normally a chocolate ice cream eater.

  203. Michelle says:

Coconut Cream Pie was so delicious. If they don’t make it year round I will never eat ice cream again. Seriously, it’s that good. PLEASE consider this.

  204. Jayne says:

Light strawberry cheesecake is the best. I love anything with nuts and caramel but strawberry cheesecake is above that. It’s fantastic!!!!

  205. Sue says:

My favorite is Moose Tracks, and I love the fact that I can get it in Light! You never know the difference!

  206. Alexa Bafunno says:

  218. Bruce Schmeck says:
