There’s nothing like a nice stroll on the boardwalk on breezy summer day. The waves crashing against the shore. Kids playing in the sand. How ‘bout an ice cream cone to sweeten the memory? Double fudge with sprinkles? No problem!
Now we’re back on the boardwalk, cone in hand, just soaking up the sun and – HEY! THAT SEAGULL JUST STOLE MY ICE CREAM!!
Laugh all you want, but that’s exactly what happened to the people in the series of photos on this website. Actually, you can’t help but laugh when you see these photos. Those birds know a good thing when they see it! But I’ll bet none of the people in these photos were laughing when their treat was nabbed right out of their hand by a flying ice cream thief!

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
You really think I’m that ‘gull’ible to beleive that happened?
Oh, yeah, those images are great! Saw them the other day. Quick hide your cone!
That is so, so cute
Double fudge sounds really good too. I “got away” from ice for many, many years, but, I think I am now ready to really “start eating ice cream” again! Make a GREAT part of my diet, not too much everyday, but, make sure I get my good times with my ice cream. Especially chocolate ice cream, just my favorite, and maybe a hot fudge sundae every now and then. Thank you!
The seagulls could have done worse! The double fudge could have been a triple fudge or there could have been some extra sprinkle on the ice cream!!!
Wow, I guess everyone and everything loves Turkey Hill!
Gulls are fearless when it comes to food. Can’t say I blame ‘em. I’d probably do the same thing!
Sea gulls are aggressive scavengers.
That’s why we’re told not to feed them on the boardwalk. One pooped on a leather jacket I was wearing. It was, needless to say, not a pleasant experience.
reminds me of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds”-really scary-will remember to eat my ice cream indoors
I won’t name names, but a new ice cream brand (from Texas) has recently come into our area. I confess that I did try it, as I had been told that it is absolutely the best of the best.
WRONG!! Turkey Hill wins by a knockout in the first round. I’ll be gobbling down this turkey from now on.
I wonder if it was Turkey Hill–or if he was doing the guy a favor and saving him from eating an inferior brand?
MAYBE THE SEA GULL WAS DOING THE GUY A FAVOR BY TAKING THE CONE..MAYBE HE KNEW IT WAS NOT A TURKEY HILL DIP…..BUT A JERSEY SHORE FAKE!
I think the sea gulls in the last 50 years have learnt to steal food out of you hands. Hot dogs are a favorite. But back in the 60′s you drove at your own risk in a convertible by the shore. They were and still are bombers. A friend had a VW bug stuck his arm out to signal a left turn and ended up being bombed by a sea gull. At least their bombs are smaller than geese but I think geese do not bomb.
Oh yea I can relate to the seagulls stealing food. I was having pizza on the boardwalk and one of the seagulls came on the table and took not one but two slices of the pizza. I really had to laugh, because I wasn’t suppose to be eating pizza in the first place. That seagull saved me a ton of calories. LOL. Linda
I witnessed this in Cape Cod in 2007 when a gull stole a hamburger right off the mans plate, FUNNY, but not really, and yet I feed them on the beach. Once saw a gull steal a baggie of cookies right out of a beach bag. How brazen, just like HUMANS:)
The Hunt for Turkey Hill Black Raspberry Ice Cream in the Washington DC area. While it doesn’t get selected for the tournaments, it has been a family favorite for years. However, the Washington “insiders” don’t carry it in this area – we need to travel to PA or NY area. I guess Northeasterners have better taste buds than those in the mid-Atlantic area.
Better eat my ice cream cone inside.
I know that seagulls do indeed grab your food and fly away. They are a real pest! I will make sure to eat any TH ice cream inside!
Hey even seagulls deserve something sweet once in awhile–I hope it was Turkey Hill so they could really enjoy their stolen dessert.
I had the seagull scare while walking on a dock in Sweden. They were swooping around all over us, trying to snatch our hot dogs. Another time at the Delaware beach. My daughter & I walked outside w/hot french fries & the gulls were all over us, had to run back inside! Then when we walked back down to the beach, we witnessed one scarf up a half sub from one of our friends. We had to hide all the food!
Those are some very aggressive seagulls!!
Those birds know a good thing when they see it – everyone loves ice cream. Maybe they are tasting to see if it is Turkey Hill?
Please read “Johnathan Livingston Seagull” by Richard Bach. You will have a new view of Seagulls and pilots.
Hey, seaguls have to eat too!!!
How aggravating that would be to have your cone snitched right from your hand! These birds are too brave but it’s because people feed them all the time so they are not afraid anymore. We had to hide all our food last summer at the beach because they would come right up to our blanket and try to grab anything they could. Then we saw other people feeding them a little ways away and more and more kept coming, completely ruined our day. I will definetly eat my Turkey Hill ice cream inside all summer.
Ace of Hearts!
Hi Turkey Hill Fans, That bird have good taste when it come to eating good ice cream. He pick Turkey Hill ice cream.
hey it’s good to share….i guess it was the seagull’s turn to eat! LOL
They better not try to steal my ice cream!
I really thought the first picture was some sort of fake, photoshopped thing. After looking at all of them, I think they are probably real. I’m making a note to myself not to eat my Turkey Hill in the vicinity of any gulls or other boids. My dog is bad enough!
Those birds are really something else. I’m taking cover when I go to the boardwalk. I love ice cream. I’d be very upset.
Birds 1, Humans 0. Turkey Hill sells another cone.
just shows that Turkey Hill Ice CREAM ,is loved by all friends and fowls of any size, they know the best when they see and taste it
Birds of a feather flock together… SEAGULLS and TURKEY Hill!!! It’s better to share your ice cream cone with the seagull than to have him leave you a present!
I never realized how common it was to share a cone with a seagull. It makes me want to stay home to eat ice cream!
Boy, those doggone birds get bolder every year! They can have some of my popcorn but don’t try to steal my Turkey Hill.
Our silly language:
Not bird turd,
but cone gone!1985
Even birds like Turkey Hill ice cream.
I must admit, my first reaction was to laugh. Laugh at the man’s horrified expression at the audacity of the birds…but then I had to stifle my giggles and think how I would feel if that happened to me. Truth be told, I did have a similar experience. And this is a little graphic, and a little gross but please don’t judge because it is just a tribute to how much I love my ice cream. To set the scene, I am sitting on a picnic table bench in the hot August sun at my family’s usual vacation place at the beach. My Dad just treated us all to ice cream for an after lunch treat and I was first in line and first to sit because my family knows my love for ice cream. As I am just about to take my first bite, a white and brown swirled liquid drops from the sky and land in my ice cream bowl. Yes, it was bird poop. I was horrified!! And you may be horrified by this…I scooped the bird poop out of my ice cream, and a small layer underneath and threw it away, then got a new spoon and ate the rest of the ice cream! I wasn’t going to let my ice cream go to waste!!
did not know birds liked ice cream i guess they know a good thing when they see it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This will be a reminder for me not to ever eat anything on the boardwalk again!!!I am not fond of birds at all and to have this happen to me would be HORRIBLE!!!Although they do have good taste if the ice cream was turkey hill and the flavor fish.
Now that is what is known as a “conehead”
That gull is just like my son. He doesn’t usually want the ice cream–just the cone!
Funny stuff! Teaches you to finish your ice cream quickly!
My seagull story happened about seven years ago when my granddaughter was around four. She was playing with her small dolls at the beach when the seagulls started to dive for them. Being the fun-loving zany grandmother that I am–I started to bury the babies in the sand with the hair hanging out, and the gulls would try to grab them. (A woman near us was getting rather irritated.) After a while it was time to leave, but I just had to bury the babies one more time. This time one managed to grab one and flew off over the ocean with it. There were quite a few tears, and I felt really bad.
They just better not ever come after my ice cream, because they would be the ones to end up crying!!
That is so funny about the seagull. I wonder if they have a special flavor—then they could be in the contest too !!
I have 2 dogs and I always have to share my T.H. with them. It’s pretty tough when 3 of us are fighting for the same thing !! LOL
It looks like all the pictures were taken at the same place. If I knew the seagulls were always doing this I would avoid this place. There’s always safe places to eat your ice cream especially Turkey Hill.
Now that IS aggressive. I would be real annoyed if that happened to me!
It looks funny but I’m sure it doesn’t feel that way.
I must admit I’d be quite frightened. I’m not a huge fan of birds and this photo just adds to my “fears”.
It’s funny, but scary for the person it happens to. Anyhow, even birds like ice cream! Can’t blame them.
I can see them wanting the ice cream. I’ve even had seagulls take raw vegetables out of my hand on the beach.
Hmmm. Did Alfred Hitchcock like ice cream? Do we all remember the movie “The Birds”? Maybe they used ice cream to train the birds in that movie.
Those pics brought back memories of that old movie.
In Sweden we were warned about the seagulls. It’s the common crime there.
I like all flavors and taste. It’s not only for the birds.
No Boardwalk for me….I’ll continue to have my Turkey Hill Nightcap in my Lazyboy. Those Gulls can steal somebody elses.
Who said wildlife isn’t funny?
THOSE GULLS ARE BOLD CREATURES – I WOULD HAVE DROPPED IT- TOO FUNNY
Smartest birds I’ve ever seen!
[...] be easy at all! Speaking of comments, here’s one that was left on our recent entry about seagulls who steal ice cream cones. It’s has to be one of the funniest comments ever left on the Ice Cream [...]
when ice cream time; at our house ,I usally have vanilla, I do not have sea gulls;;; I do have two dogs that sure try scoop up the most of my ice cream . everytime;;;they are right on top of me , if i do not share or give them some
I have been a Turkeey Hill fan for a very long time. I believe I am well versed in judging ice cream and there is NO ice cream better than Turkey Hill Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup. I keep this wonderful flavor in my freezer all the time to enjoy myself and to share with my grand children. They know they will get the best when they come to Grandpa house. Keep up the good work, Turkey Hill.
I symphasise with people, I really do. I was once enjoying a lovely day at the beach in Cornwall when a seagull rather kindly snatched my ice-cream away from me leaving me staring at an empty cone. And it was a particularly delicious ice-cream! I was laughing as I watched similar stuff happen to other people but as soon as it was me… well, let’s just say the joke died.
