AN INTERVIEW WITH DYNAMIC DUO #4: PB EXPLOSION

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Turkey Hill’s newest line of ice cream flavors, Dynamic Duos, features two different but complimentary ice cream flavors packed into the same container. To introduce you the Duos, we sat down for a series of unprecedented one-on-one interviews with each new addition. Our meeting with PB Explosion, our last of the Dynamic Duos interviews, happened in the Turkey Hill lab.

TURKEY HILL DAIRY: You look a lot different under a microscope than you do in person.

PBE: Better in person, I hope. I saw some other flavors under the microscope. It’s, um, interesting.

THD: C’mon, what are you afraid of?

PBE: Nothing really. It just seems a little up-close-and-personal.

THD: Well, it is their job. Speaking of up close, on one side, you’ve got vanilla ice cream with chocolate peanut butter cups and on the other side you’ve got chocolate ice cream with peanut butter swirl. How’s that combination working out for you?

PBE: Great so far! Just between you and me and the Ice Cream Journal readers, I anticipate being one of Turkey Hill’s most popular flavors.

THD: That’s quite a prediction! Word around the Dairy is that you and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup have a little rivalry going.

PBE: Where’d you hear that? I wouldn’t call it a rivalry. We’re actually very good friends. She said she was doing the whole “chocolate and peanut butter thing” long before I was invented, which is true. Then Peanut Butter Mania said he was the “king of all peanut butter flavors” because he has peanut brittle and peanut butter cookies, but it’s not really a rivalry. We’re just very competitive and they like giving me a hard time because I’m the new kid in the freezer.

THD: So no bad cream between you guys?

PBE: Nah.

THD (motioning toward the lab’s centrifuge): Have you take a ride in that thing yet?

PBE: No. That’s the thing that spins around really fast, right? Don’t they only use that for testing new milk and cream?

THD: Maybe.

PBE: Not that I’m afraid or anything. I just don’t like moving around a lot. I’m pretty laid back, I guess.

THD: That’s pretty funny for a flavor called “PB Explosion.” You do realize you’ll be moving around a lot once it’s time to ship you out to grocery stores, right?

PBE: Yeah, I know. And for the record, the “explosion” in my name is more about an explosion of flavor, not a literal explosion. That would be kind of messy.

THD: But a lot of fun at birthday parties.

PBE: Depending on the age, I guess. They’re not really going to put me in that machine, are they?

THD: No, but we might be able to talk them into it though.

PBE: Don’t even think about it.

THD: Your brother, CocoNutz!, was in there for 10 minutes last week. He said it was the most fun he’s had since he was in the mixing tank.

PBE: That’s not saying much. There’s a reason they call him CocoNutz.

THD: And you’ll probably wind up side-by-side with him on the grocery store shelf.

PBE: Don’t remind me.

GOOD NEWS! THREE RECALLED FLAVORS WILL SOON BE BACK ON SHELVES!

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

On January 30, because of the ongoing peanut investigation by the FDA, we announced a voluntary recall on six Turkey Hill Ice Cream Flavors and, on Friday, we announced the recall of our Dynamic Duos Movie Night flavors.

Ever since the day we announced the recall, the Turkey Hill team has been hard at work identifying a new peanut supplier. We’re happy to announce that we’ve found a new supplier and that three of the recalled flavors are currently being produced with new ingredients (but with the same Lancaster County taste). Those flavors, which include Tin Roof Sundae (1.5 quart), Light Recipe Chocolate Nutty Moose Tracks (1.5 quart) and Nutty Caramel Caribou Frozen Yogurt (1.5 quart), will be hitting shelves in the next couple of weeks!

It’s probably been a long month for those of you who are fans of those flavors (including many of us here at Turkey Hill), which is why were so happy to announce this news. As for Movie Night and the other recalled flavors, production of those will begin in the near future. When those flavors are ready to hit stores, we’ll let you know.

In the meantime, enjoy the return of these nutty flavors. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to email us using the “Contact Us” page of the Turkey Hill website.
