ICE CREAM NEWS FROM AROUND THE WORLD
Posted by: Turkey Hill Team
There’s so much happening the world of ice cream, that it may be hard to keep up with it all. That’s why we assembled a few of the more interesting ice cream-related headlines from the past week in this entry. Enjoy!
ICE CREAM MADNESS – LA Times food writer, David Lebovitz, encourages us to “think outside the carton” by suggesting some unusual home made ice cream flavors. (Story here)
SPOIL SPORTS – Officials at Peabody High School in Massachusetts canceled a monthly student ice cream fundraiser — one that typically raised $500 a month for the school newspaper and other activities — on the grounds that ice cream “isn’t good for you.” (Story here)
SPOIL SPORTS (Part 2) – An editorial in a local Massachusetts newspaper lets Peabody High School officials know what the public thinks of the school’s ice cream ban. (“What’s next? Neighborhood ice cream vendors leaning out of their trucks checking IDs to determine whether kids are old enough to purchase their favorite treat?“) (Story here)
ICE CREAM BANDITS – Two men in Dover, NH were arrested after stealing ice cream from a parked ice cream truck. Some people will do anything for a push-up pop! (Story here)
SEAGULL MASSACRE – A man visiting Laguna Beach in Orange County, CA was fined $275 for killing a rare breed of seagull after the bird stole his wife’s ice cream. (Story here with poll a the bottom of the story)

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.

April 8th, 2009 at 9:42 pmLight Moose Tracks I have eaten and it is “super” great when you bite in those mini peanut butter cups….. while savoring it with the ice cream, and from time to time some fudge comes in…..delicious ice cream.
As far as sea gulls stealing ice cream cones….(they are only supposed to eat fish!) it is not new….Atlantic City NJ has those flying “veterans”…they know how to fly low, dive on you, and literally take the cone of ice cream out of your hands before you know what is happening.
It happened to me and my daughter, we laughed, got more ice cream but never, ever I would have killed this bird because she was not abble to resist temptation!!!!!!!
turkey hill ice cream is the best in the world , but not worth steal for;
April 8th, 2009 at 12:52 pmI am not in favor of killing, but I understand this poor man’s situation (A man visiting Laguna Beach in Orange County, CA was fined $275 for killing a rare breed of seagull after the bird stole his wife’s ice cream.), these beach birds are very annoying and need to be taught a lesson, like a big dog chasing them away every time they come close to our ice cream. maybe we should all send this man a dollar to help him pay his fine.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:48 pmVanilla is fine with fruit or with cake or pie. But for sheer joy of ice cream, I prefer the addition of chocolate and nuts.
April 7th, 2009 at 6:42 ammust be too much competiotion for the ice cream sold by the school
April 6th, 2009 at 10:40 amWhen I grew up there were no “points”, fat free diets and etc and all of us kids just had fun and ate our school lunches and yes, sometimes ice cream. There is nothing “bad” for you, moderation is the key. Of course when it comes to Turkey Hill that can become a problem for me !!!!!
April 6th, 2009 at 8:56 amTheir wellness policy need overhauled. Wellness does not mean to exclude a food group, just practice moderation!
April 6th, 2009 at 7:16 amTheir wellness policy needs overhauled!! Wellness does not exclude desserts, moderation is key!
April 6th, 2009 at 7:15 amThere are lots of healthier “light” ice creams. It seems a little rash to deem all ice cream as unhealthy. Maybe that school needs to take a chill pill!
April 5th, 2009 at 2:58 pmNothing could be better for you than a yummy ice cream cone! Shame on those school officials.
April 5th, 2009 at 11:59 amKIDS NEED A GOOD MENTAL BREAK AND ICE CREAM CONE OR TREAT WOULD DO IT.
April 5th, 2009 at 7:18 amIf you’re going to have a treat, ice cream is your best choice…especially Turkey Hill.
April 5th, 2009 at 7:07 amShame on Peabody High School officials. Ice cream is always good for you!
April 4th, 2009 at 10:06 pmWhen is carrot cake ice cream being added to the Turkey Hill list of great ice creams? After reading the article, my mouth is watering. Carrot cake is my favorite cake. PLEASE RUSH!!! Please make it a “light” version so I can eat more of it. THANK YOU!!!
Can you arrange for me to get an early notice so I can be waiting at the store when it arrives?
April 4th, 2009 at 3:56 pmDavid Lebovitz needs to get in on this TH ice cream blog. He sounds like one of us.
April 4th, 2009 at 2:17 pmNext thing-when are we going to see TH get in on the yogurt market? You already make outstanding frozen yogurt…
Stories like the one on the ice cream fund raiser ban can really get me ticked off. NEWS FLASH: Ice cream and dairy products have lots of nutritional value!!! Common sense just ain’t common anymore. Better not let the kids eat ice cream ’cause they might need the room for empty calorie soda pop!
my moose tracks is putting up a good fight
April 4th, 2009 at 8:30 amThank you for bringing these news articles to our attention. Otherwise we wouldn’t know about them. You only showed the articles from this week alone. How many more articles are out there from other weeks. This just proves how popular ice cream has become. Who said ice cream is not good for you especially since there is so many articles about it. I plan to continue to eat my Turkey Hill ice cream and enjoy every spoonful.
April 4th, 2009 at 8:08 amice cream IS good for you-as long as you eat a balanced diet-as my Mom used to say-everything in moderation
April 4th, 2009 at 6:17 amMy husband calls ice cream “happy food.” I agree.
