I used to be a loyal Turkey Hill customer until I realized that they were being deceptive with their customers. Not only have the containers shrunk, but I am certain they are pumping more air into their ice cream than ever before.

It's true that some types of ice cream use more air than others. This air takes up room, which means that it takes less ice cream mixture to fill the container, which means it costs less. The space taken up by air is called the overrun. In the United States, up to half of a container of ice cream can be air and I'm sure Turkey Hill is one of those companies that takes full advantage of this.

I recently switched to Shurfine brand ice cream and it has Turkey Hill beat in both quantity and quality. It is a true half gallon and you can tell when you pick it up that it is not full of air. The ice cream is denser, but very creamy and delicious! I would love to know who makes Shurfine's ice cream. It's terrific!

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW, YOU LOWERED THE PRICE OF THE 1.5 quart TURKEY HILL ICE CREAM CONTAINER TO THE PRICE THAT YOU USED TO CHARGE FOR THE HALF GALLON OF TURKEY HILL ICE CREAM?

And your customers are STUPID enough to think that you're GIVING them something?

Good for you, Quintin! You're a crook and a thief and you're robbing your customers blind and you didn't even need a gun. Your grandfather is probably spinning in his grave.

Why the ten cent discount? Easy, because SOME customers, like myself and the other customers with a brain, buy any ice that's on sale these days and are no longer loyal to the crooks at Turkey Hill and Turkey Hill is sweating their dropping sales.

Simple, no?

Simple, yes.

Go ahead, delete my comments. I'm sure this fits with your new company censorship guidelines.

I always watch for the sale prices on Turkey Hill ice cream in the newspaper circulars. Then I buy as many as possible cause some stores have a limit. If you wait until the last day nothing is left. (just goes to show how much everyone loves Turkey Hill ice cream!)

The carton has been reduced by 25%. A ten cent decrease which the consumer will likely not see is an insult.

I have been enjoying Harris Teeter and Wegmans ice cream. In my opinion, they value their customers more than turkey Hill.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I find this entry really nice. I don't care it's only 10 cents. It's the fact that Turkey Hill isn't just thinking about themselves and hopefully in the end this will impact the bottom line in a positive way via more sales. I will only buy ice cream at X price or below (Turkey Hill or not) despite my desire for Turkey Hill. Times are tough.

I hate the smaller "Half-Gallons" and I think they are too small. I find that they thaw faster on the way home and I now only but 1 - once in a while - instaed of having 2 or 3 in the freezer. They take up too much space for the small size. I guess I am protesting the reduction in size - whatever. One of your competitors sells a gallon plastic container. I wish it were square, though... and it goes on sale at about $7. I can multiply and divide and consider the price per gallon. If the poor can't afford a whole half-gallon, they shouldn't buy ice cream - what are we, stupid? I will not buy the small containers like I used to - until they regain their full 64 ounce size. Sorry!

Oh, Boy, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who's noticed the size of the container has gotten smaller and smaller and smaller...(from a 1/2 gallon to 1.75 quarts, then to 1.5 quarts) - before too long the only size Turkey Hill will offer is a Pint - and the price for that will be $4.29 -or possibly you can have the retailers run a special of 2/$6

I realize the price of everything has gone up, from ingredients,to labor, to transportation, but reducing the size of the container to maintain the price is not the way to maintain your customer base.

The local stores have TH on sale at 2/$6.00 for 1.5 qts. and I can buy other brands (of very similar quality, if not equal) for $2.89 - 3.29 for a HALF GALLON (2 quarts) (and some of that is shipped in from the Midwest)

Now granted, I'm no rocket scientist, but even at 2/$6, a 1.5 qt. container is NOT such a good deal,(I think that's about $4 a half gallon, but then again, I went to college up the road from your dairy, so my math might not be my strongest point), and, in case you haven't noticed, we are in a recession here in Pennsylvania, so most of us need to squeeze every penny out of our paycheck. Also, since the dairy farmers are getting about 1/2 the price per hundred weight for their milk as they were not all that long ago, so you can't blame it all on the farmers.

OK, I feel better now - I just hope you don't start cutting the quality of the product the same way you've been cutting down on the size to keep the price low.

Please bring back the half-gallon size. The 1.5 liter doesn't last in our freezer!
Especially things like Moose tracks, Peanut Butter Swirl, Tin Roof Sundae and your wonderful specials.
I miss the Southern Lemmon Pie.

What I can't figure out is why our local supermarket sells TH for $6.00 a 'container' and the one up the road five miles sells it for $3.99. Is the one market making a huge profit? I refuse to buy there unless it's a really good sale (like BOGO). I'd rather go out of my way!

As many folks have said we would like to see the retailers lower it as well, but that's not going to happen. However, good move on your part. Now the but part. I bet a lot of customers realized that when you shrunk the 1/2 gallon (64 ounces) down to 1.5(48 ounces),(which is not a 1/2 gallon Tony) that you indeed raised the price. We are now getting a smaller size for the same price. So in fact the price did go up. If you made the size 3/4 of a gallon and kept the half gallon price, then the price would be reduced.
There are a lot of smart consumers out there who know exactly what I am saying.
Do you realize how many of us want the 1/2 gallon back, and are willing to pay a little extra for it if need be? I wish you would break away from the rest and make a stand, and go back to the 1/2 gallon container. You said that you took a pole about raising the price, or shrinking the container. You said that the people wanted a smaller container. Have you read the Blog's? People are demanding the return of the 1/2 gallon container. So I do not know who your census taker was. Maybe he or she came from Florida after the elections! I hate telling my kid to go and pick out a 1.5 litre of Ice Cream!
When did we go to the metric system?
Are we in Canada?
Respectfully,
Rob D Paramus, NJ

You do know that that your reduction in price will not be passed on to the cosumer, don't you. Retailers will continue to sell your product at the same price if not a higher price and you wll continue to decrease the number of ounces in what used to be the half galon size.

Your products are good but I wait for the sales promotions - Buy one get one free!

It's nice to know that you will reduce the price by 10 cents. What I want to know is how much smaller the boxes will get along with this 10 cent decrease? Do you think the buyers of your ice cream do not notice that the boxes are getting smaller and smaller?

since "the needs of our customers has always been the primary motivation behind many of our business decisions" here's a public suggestion or 2:

replace the aspartame, which is a nasty man-made CHEMICAL with (likely) negative health effects, from your diet ice teas, with stevia, which is becoming more mainstream. you use splenda, also something NOT found in nature but concocted in a lab, in your diet ice creams. that could be replaced by stevia too.

stevia is a zero calorie, usually zero carbs, super sweet natral sweetner from a plant native to south america. remember that 'real' sugar is also made from plants (sugar cane or beets usually). even the horrible 'high fructose corn syrup' is made from a plant. stevia, for years in health food stores, is now moving into supermarkets.

TH should set an example for the industry and replace artificial sweetners with natural in diet products. please become the 1st major manufacturer to do so!

next you could be the first major ice cream maker to make (1.5 qt 'normal' priced) coconut milk ice cream instead of cows milk ice cream! wow. that would really shock the industry. you'd be the talk of the vegan/vegetarian/health conscience/nutrition world! then high school clubs could resume selling ice cream as a fund raiser.

I know it's not polite to compliment and then follow with a "but", BUT - Thanks Turkey Hill for passing on the savings; that's good, if the stores can pass some onto us.
Since I usually buy when stores offer special sales of "2 or 3 for" better price, I usually am getting the best deal along with those occassional coupons (I love coupons), (instead of BUT), SO,
I would appreciate the return to full half-gallon containers. Be daring, be strong, trust us; we will buy plenty of your ice cream and love you even more when we get our 1.5 gals. back. I'll be waiting and watching!

Thanks for the price reduction. I still wish that you would sell your regular flavors in bigger packaging, because our family eats a lot of ice cream. The smaller packages are empty too fast!

Since prices are dropping, I would prefer you to go back to the bigger size containers. I have not been happy every since you decreased from the 1/2 gallon size. I would rather have the bigger size than the 10 cent discount. In fact, my purchase amount of ice cream has greatly decreased since you made the packages smaller. you should have stuck with the traditional 1/2 gallon!

Lent is over this week, and so I'll be back to my favorite pastime, a dish of ice cream and a good book. In regard to the size of your packaging, in a way it's a good thing. I am able to put 2 cartons on top of each other and so now I can fit 4 cartons in my freezer, where before I could only fit 2. thanks

LEMON Swirl,Gelati or Southern Lemon Cheesecake or - wait let me check the freezer for the correct name - BRB-yum, that was refreshing. Since Turkey Hill is one of the only ice cream makers that even have luscious Lemon ice cream, I hope LEMON DUETTE wins an award for most original. I beg friends to scope out the ice cream sections of their grocery stores to find it since it's hard to find in upstate NY. Maybe TH will increase production since we've probably bought the entire east coast production. Not that any one buys ice cream at stands anymore, but if you happen upon an ice cream palor that says they have 100's of flavors, just for fun, see if they have a lemon flavor. Bet it's hard to find Lemon ice cream but heck, why bother- just pick up a TH LEMON DUETTE and you'll be singing in the Summertime anytime. PS:TH - did you ever have another Lemon ice cream other than the Lemon Duette?

Wonderful News. When everyone else is raising their prices its a breath of fresh air to find those who are actually helping the consumer by lowering their prices. THANK YOU :}

Apricot? How about trying that as a feature flavor one month as a tribute to your uncle. Apricot Duetto sounds scrumptious to me! Speaking of GREAT flavors...GO MOOSE TRACKS!!! Yipee! It would be wonderful to see ALL that purchase Turkey Hill take the savings, and donate it to a worthy cause. It may not sound like a lot, but it adds up. Every little bit helps. Thanks to the T.H.T.

Good gesture by Turkey Hill. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any of our local supermarkets pass-on the savings.

Turkey Hill is great, you are the reason family owned businesses are successful. Honesty, quality ingredients and always offering your products to customers for a fair price.

I wish all companies would follow your lead and lower prices instead of making us deal with coupons. Now that you've given us this news, I intend to watch, at my grocery store, to see if they pass on this reduction in price, to their consumers

Hopefully your price reduction will set a precedent for other food manufacturers. In a time of high unemployment and rising inflation, your decision to lower prices is an excellent model for industry and a benefit to the economy.
