It’s that time of year. The time when little ice cream shops welcome the (mostly) warm weather and open their doors for the season. We’ve said before and we’ll say it again: The only thing possibly better than a bowl of your favorite flavor at home is a double scoop at your local ice cream parlor.
Which leads us to our poll question for May: How often do you eat ice cream at an ice cream shop? Sounds simple enough! Now if you’ll excuse us, the ice cream freezer in the break room is calling our name.

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
I haven’t been in an ice cream shop for years. The closest thing is standing on line, and then you have to stand up to eat it. You can enjoy it more when you are sitting with family and friends!
If there was a local shop within walking distance we would probably go every other week in the summer, but since we don’t have one that close, we usually only go once or twice a year.
Wonder if Anne O lives at University Park, PA? Penn State makes delicious ice cream. My fave is peach and my husband likes their choc mint. A real treat when in the area. Talk about lines. When it is a busy weekend at PSU the line can be very long. That rival company Ben & Jerry learned to make their ice cream from a PSU course.
I had the Birthday cake to celebrate my Birthday on May 5.It was great.
In the summer after working in the yard all day, the ice cream shop is my favorite place to be! In fact, the banana split will be my dinner! Fabulous!!!
Your ice cream is one of if not our favorite( coffee is mine). My husband, any, as long as it is ICE CREAM TURKEY HILL THAT IS

We rarely get our ice cream from the ice cream shop. We get our Turkey Hill out of the ice cream freezer at the super market. It’s just what we want and it’s available to us at home without taking a trip to get it.
I rarely go to a real Ice Cream Parlor….not too many around these days, but we have Turkey Hill ice cream almost every night for dessert! Can’t beat that as far as I’m concerned.
I would love to have the cone maker. I could eat my favorite ice cream very happy.
what would go better with TH ice cream at home than homemade waffle cones? No need to go out at all!!
Nothing better than a sugar cone overflowing with my favorite icecream topped with sprinkles. Even nicer to have you own cone maker and have one every day.
If by ice cream shop you mean the local Dairy Queen that is only open from March 15th to September 15th–then we only go about once a month. When we travel ice cream is always one of our tourist stops–as we don’t really have one in our hometown.
After a quiet motorcycle ride to one of
our favorite destinations-Gettysburg, PA
we love to stop at an ice cream shop just off the square for a Turkey Hill ice cream cone or sundae. What a way to
end a ride and cool off inside.
We can enjoy a double helping of ice cream at home (Turkey Hill of course) for less than at the local ice cream shoppe. But it is nice on special occasions to splurge.
Hi Turkey Hill,
Maybe 1 ot 2x a year.I like buying my Turkey Hill ice cream and taking it home to eat.
growing up we lived near this place called “The Milk Barn” it was truly a barn converted to ice cream place and it would be packed all summer long inside and out. Huge ice cream cones at really reasonable prices and a really good quality ice cream(not turkey hill though).but it is no longer there, people retired and sold it to a car dealership who inturn donated the barn itself to the town because of historical value and right now it sits in storage. so since then there is not anything that even comes close to that around here. That is one of the things that many people really miss in this area sadly.
our favorite ice cream place is really a pizza place but they have turkey hill on the menu and we usually get milk shakes or root beer floats when we go
We had a poddle for 21 years and he loved icecream. We had to spell it if we wanted some icecream. He was the first at the refrigator if you opened the freezer door. When we traveled he always went with us and when we stopped for a cone my husband always said five cones please and a dish for our icecream eating dog. I don’t know who loves it more. Him or us humans.
Every sunday, we take the boys (Puppies)for a ride and stop for a cone of homemade ice cream, man do ther eyes open when we get ice cream,
My family and I rarely go out for ice cream to expensive but we usually buy Turkey Hill weekely by the half gallon. Mango vanilla gelato is my favorite.
I HAVE BEEN A TURKEY HILL LOVER SINCE IT FIRST CAME INTO OUR STATE (MD)
AS FAR AS GOING TO A ICE CREAM SHOP,WHY?
THEY SHOULD BE COMING TO ME,AS I MAKE THE BEST SUNDAES AROUND,AND MY BANANA SPLIT IS TO DIE FOR. SO YOU KEEP PUTTING OUT THE BEST ICE CREAM,AND I’LL KEEP PURCHASING IT. LARRY K.
When my son was a toddler he would request “Morning Dessert” right after breakfast- only ice cream that would satisfy this request. He thought all meals incomplete without it! (many nutrition lessons followed but his love of ice cream never waivered.)
Ice cream is on my list everynight around 7PM.
