ICE CREAM NEWS: WHICH ONE OF THESE STORIES IS FAKE?

It’s that time again…time for some wild and wacky news about ice cream from around the world. Below are some of the more unusual stories we’ve managed to dig up, but there’s a twist. One of these stories is a fake, made up by the Turkey Hill staff. Try to guess which one by leaving a comment!

1. NO RESPECT FOR THE ICE CREAM MAN – An ice cream man in Suffolk, Virginia was dishing out some frosty treats when two men approached the window and placed an order. When the man turned around to get the goodies, the men brought out guns and demanded that he give them the truck. A short time later, while wandering the neighborhood, the ice cream man heard his truck’s music and found it abandoned. The shaken vendor reclaimed his vehicle and drove to the nearest police station to report the crime.

2. FOOD FIGHT! – A Rhode Island legislator’s attempt to name a local ice cream maker as the state’s official ice cream vendor melted faster than a freeze pop in August when the House couldn’t come to a consensus on the motion. Turns out, several other legislators preferred other ice creameries, and no one was willing to budge on their frosty allegiances. The legislator withdrew his resolution moments before the vote was to be conducted.

3. ANYONE HAVE AN ASPIRIN? – An Eagle Creek, Oregon man claims to have suffered from the world’s longest case of brain freeze after gobbling down a pint of Neapolitan ice cream nearly eight years ago. The man, who’s tried every conceivable remedy, can’t seem to shake the headache, but still enjoys his favorite frozen dessert “at least three times a week.” Doctors at Oregon University Medical Center have no explanation for the affliction.

4. NO RESPECT FOR THE ICE CREAM MAN (PART 2) – A turf war between two rival ice cream vans broke out in Camden, New Jersey last week. It started when one ice cream man encroached on the territory of another. The angered peddler shouted “You can’t stop here! This is my spot!” Soon after, the trespassing ice cream man was assaulted by two thugs and taken to the hospital where he was treated for cuts, bruises and a fractured rib.

Like we said, three of these stories are true and one is completely made up. Chime in with a comment if you think you know which of these tales is too tall to be true.

  1. barry says:

#4 is fake. the incident took place in London, England, not Camden, NJ.

  2. Santiago McAllister says:

Number 3 is false. Nobody can have a headache that long from eating an icecream. The human body is a closed organism and can adjust and adapt to gain it’s necessary homeostasis once the outside influencing factor is gone.

  3. Susan says:

#2, although this might just be possible in politics with everything that is going on and the mistrust and injustices and stupidity. Carry on!!!

  4. Christine says:

I think #4 is false. Although #2 seems like it could be false as well! My vote is for #4 though.

  5. Alexa says:

I think #3 is false – I can’t believe it lasted eight years unless he was constantly eating ice cream, which according to the story he wasn’t.

  6. Ruth Fourney says:

I have to go with no. 3 it is so unbelivable that it has to be false

  7. Jeanne Lizzi says:

    I think #3 is false.

  8. Robin Schatz says:

Definitely number 3. I seem to remember the Camden, NJ incident (I live in Philadelphia, the city where Eagles fans booed Santa Claus; Camden is just across the river and some pretty wacky stuff happens there, too).

  9. Carol Triano says:

#2 – At least I hope so, I can’t imagine such an issue coming up before the House, but then again, who knows when it comes to politics !!!

  10. Michael says:

#3 is fake. Eight years is a long time for a brain freeze.

  11. Bob Kessler Jr says:

I would vote for #3 as the fake story. How could someone live that long with a headache? Why would he even let it go that long? You would think after 8 years there would be a cure for his headache. If I had this headache I would try not to eat ice cream despite my fondness for it. If it is true I will forever eat my Turkey Hill ice cream slowly.

  12. brenda says:

Hi Turkey Hill Fans, I think it is number 3,but I can be wrong. I really think it is Number 1.

  13. Linda Leffler says:

My vote is for #2. I heard about the man with the headache or maybe I had a dream about it, LOL. Linda

  14. Craig Kurtz says:

Number 4 is definitely made up, the others are true but Turkey Hill is the opposite for me. If I have a headache then eating TurkeyHill IC takes away all of my pain.

  15. Cathy says:

    I’ll guess #4.

  16. mary says:

well, i think it is number 2

  17. BETTY says:

    #1 I THINK

  18. eric johnson says:

    #4

  19. Dom Palestino says:

#3,If I had a headache for 8 years I would blow my brains out.

  20. Robbin L. Netz says:

In today’s world it seems as almost anything is believable. Does Pennsylvania have an “Official State Ice Cream?” I pick #2 in hopes that our legistrators across the country would not exibit this behavior, and are spending their time more appropriately and productively.

  21. Turkey Hill Team says:

It’s good to see our storytellers have some of you fooled. There’s a good mix of guesses in here. We’ll reveal the answer at the end of tomorrow’s blog entry.

  22. Ed says:

Gotta go with my gut (full of Turkey Hill)…
    Number 2 don’t cut it

  23. Patty says:

I don’t think it sounds possible for someone to have brain freeze for 8 years.

  24. Pat says:

I don’t think #3 is true. If you had a headache for 8 years from eating ice cream you wouldn’t eat ice again that’s for sure! :)

  25. Rolande says:

To the respond on the one I think is fake is # 2..Can`t imagine to taking a person cause yu don`t like their ice cream products…..Daaaaaa!!!!!!

  26. Sharon says:

I think it’s #3, it’s just too unbelievable. The rest have actually happened in varying instances throughout the years in different locations.

  27. Will says:

Brain freeze lasting 5 years – I think I’d have to give up ice cream, heaven forbid.

  28. J Mike says:

Rhode Island legislature has an unusual reputation – but I’ll defend them on this issue #2 is fake

  29. Maryann Striff says:

I say #3 is fake. A headache for eight years from ice cream. Thats a little hard to swallow. Maybe he is married!!

  30. lee carr says:

I have read and reread these stories and to me 3. ANYONE HAVE AN ASPIRIN? seems to be the most unreal story. I believe that the human body has countermeasures to take care of this problem so if this really happened, then the person was not human

  31. Loretta says:

I think #3 is fake. Unfortunately the other three could really have occurred.

  32. [...] – As many of you guessed, the answer to the question of which story was fake in our last post

  33. barry says:

#3 may be fake, but #4 is NOT TRUE either! “A turf war between two rival ice cream vans broke out in Camden, New Jersey last week” is not so, as the incident took place in **england**, not NJ, and occured on 5/2 as reported on 5/7. thus it didn’t occur ‘last week’ (which could mean 5/10-16) and wasn’t in NJ. if it was in NJ last week then there’s absolutely no evidence of a news article found via a google search–which is highly unlikely!

if a portion of a paragraph is wrong, then the whole paragraph is wrong. we learned that in school when taking tests. if putting NJ instead of england was a typo on your part, then i am correct.

if i’m wrong then please supply a bibliographic reference to your #4 info. see the 2 links in the 2nd post below.

in my research yesterday on #3, i hadn’t found any evidence supporting that paragraph, so i was going to declare #3 also fake. i hadn’t gotten around to researching #’s 1 & 2 yet.

  34. alicelynne says:

    Ahhh….#3 is fake…I think!!!

  35. JACQUELINE AREIAS says:

    all sound pretty goofy.but i say #2

  36. Donna says:

number 3 sounds like it to me.

  37. E.Hummel says:

I believe it is number 3.

  38. Donna says:

    i think #3 is fake.

  39. Dani says:

Just reading them, I probably would have guessed #3. But I gotta say I’m impressed with our google-mania’d Barry who took some serious time to do his research. ;)

  40. Sharon Mc Cauley says:

I think the one about the aspirn is fake

  41. IceCreamFiend says:

I think #3, the brain-freeze one is fake.

  42. George Quinn says:

    #2

  43. lee says:

Oh come on, a turf waR OVER ICECREAM? So many streets. and corners., and times. Lee

  44. Chris Ziegler says:

I must say the Brain freeze is the false story. The politic story is very possible.

  45. Joanne Davis says:

Number 3 has to be the false one. No one can love ice cream that much to put up with a headache for that long!
