We stumbled across the photo above and got a bit of a chuckle out of it. After all, garlic, while tasty in most Italian dishes, isn’t on most people’s list of tempting ice cream inclusions. Which probably explains why this ice cream stand is giving it away for free. Still, most of us agree that we’d at least try some. Judging by the group of samplers gathered in front of the stand, it looks like these festival goers would too.
Which brings us to this month’s poll. This question was actually asked here on the Ice Cream Journal a long, long time ago, but in the spirit of garlicky French vanilla, we thought we’d ask it again: What’s your favorite ice cream inclusion? Sound off with your answer on the right.

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
My mom wouldn’t eat catfish because of the name—garlic ice cream—don’t think so(but free sample, always like a freebie)
If you make it, it cannot be bad!!!
Garlic ice cream? I don’t know. As for catfish, I won’t eat it even when it is free. No offense to anyone but I keep thinking about how it’s a bottom dweller. Then again I won’t eat fried ice cream either. Picky eater? Maybe. I’m not afraid to try new things, but I like nuts, fruit and chocolate in my ice cream.

THE DROWNING POOL, request it at your local library!
yes, I would try it. Might not like it, but then again, maybe I would.
I have always said the my mother would have put garlic in a bowl of cereal so
I think she would have tried it. I’m not sure about myself.
I would try it. Since it’s free its not like I’m losing anything by trying… and who knows it might actually be good! Sometimes you just never know!
No, I would not even try Garlic Ice Cream…even a free one! Ugh!!
I am not a garlic eater so count me out. My hubby probably would try it only if it were Turkey Hill Garlic ice cream and of course FREE. I don’t believe he would ever buy it.
BLLLECHT! YUCK! NO WAY!!! NO THANKS!!!
Hmm, I love garlic but I believe I draw the line at garlic ice cream. Even though growing up everything I ate had garlic in it !!
Garlic in ice cream, no thank you. The person you should ask is Rachael Ray. She loves garlic on everything. I’ll pass.
might try it-don’t think I would like it
I would try it if its free – don’t know if I would like it or if it would do anything to my stomach.
Sure, I’d give it a lick and maybe a couple of more if it was halfway decent tasting.
NO THANK YOU
Being Italian, I would give it a try-but probably wouldn’t care for it.
Anyone who knows me knows I’ll try anything once.
I think any reasonable entrepreneur would not make and attempt to sell vast quantities of something that didn’t at least taste good.
Bad idea.
I might try it since it is free, but would I like it probably not.
Well they say garlic is good for lowering cholesterol so if the taste is not that great at least there are some good benefits to garlic icecream
Absolutely!! barbara
On the Iron chef they make ice cream out of many different things and are well received, so why not garlic!
I tried it at the Gilroy Garlic Festival years ago and it truly wasn’t bad. Well it sure was a far taste from my favorite flavor of coffee but it was alright.
Having tried garlic ice cream at the Gilroy Garlic Festival I can attest that it wasn’t bad. Not wonderful like coffee ice cream but alright.
Multo Gusto!!!
I like garlic bread and garlic in some of my foods. I would at least try it. I would think it wouldn’t be overwhelming. And if I liked it – then I would probably buy some and save for some special occasion.
I will try just about anything but honesty don’t think I would care for it. While in high school, too many years ago to remember, I worked at a dairy bar and around Halloween they always made licorice flavored ice cream. (Yes, it was black) People would reutrn year after year for it. As I remember it was pretty darn good.
No way I would never try garlic flavored ice cream…….YUK I Even like garlic .
NAAAH , GARLIC AND IRISH STOMACHS
AREN’T A HAPPY MIXTURE MAYBE DEWARS
FLAVOR MAY BE WORTH A TRY!!!
I would try it a second time in a cup or cone, but not a quart or half gallon.
I’ll try it again.
I love garlic, but NOT in ice cream!
I really love Garlic but sorry not in ice cream.
I might try a “free” taste of it–with much consternation.
I will never even try garlic ice cream.
When you roast garlic it develops a much more mellow flavor. I think if you added it to some nice vanilla ice cream it may just taste pretty good. Surely it would be healthy!
Only if it was a freebie. I’ll try anything at least once.
Hey, I’d try FREE garlic ice cream. Don’t think I’d buy it though. We usually associate garlic with delicious pasta dishes or bread.
garlic is not for ice cream, ice cream is what you usually eat after you eat garlic on pizza etc.
Gilroy, California–home of the Garlic Festival–what would be more appropriate than Garlic ice cream! I think I would have to try it.
for a spice yes ice cream noooooooooooooooo
Eoooooooo! Yuck….Never! That is just NASTY! No I would NOT try it.
I’ve been to Gilroy – the garlic smell encompasses the entire area. I just cannot fathom adding it to ice cream.
I wouldnt even want to try garlic in ice cream
I never thought I would like something called Black Pepper Ice Cream, but my daughter (who is a Pastry Chef at a fine dining restaurant) made it from scratch and it was DELICIOUS! So, I would definitely try the garlic ice cream. Never know … might like it even more than Moose Tracks!
I’d try a small sampling.
i love garlic and i love ice cream…and as strange as this combo seems i would definitely give it a try!
too much of a stretch. since there is a known segment of “garlic” rejection people, mught reflect poor image. Flavor definitely horrid for ice cream products
where can I stand in line to try it, I add horseradish and garlic to lots of different recipes but this is a new one.
I would give it a try just to be able to say I did it.
I would never try it. And if I tried it, I would never buy it. And if I bought it, I would never eat it. And if I ate it I would never like it. And if I liked it, I would have to admit I was wrong. Better not to start.
I love garlic in many types of food, but I will pass on garlic flavored ice cream. I love about any other flavor with a variety of things added to make it better.
I love ice cream and I love garlic in everything!!! I would definitely try the garlic ice cream.
I’ve eaten garlic ice cream in Gilroy, CA and it was delicious. I’d love to have some again but it’s hard to find in the East. How about it, Turkey Hill??
my be if i win i can have some of the ice cream before the grandkids get it all……any other brand just sits there, i really can’t blame them turkey hill is the best.
No…please, I am begging you, don’t ruin the ice cream with garlic! I love your ice cream too much.
Lois Yerxa
ummmmmm, NO WAY
Hmm Garlic Ice Cream, is the garlic crushed or in pieces, either way yuck! yuck! but mind you I would try a sample, I could be wrong
I think I would be brave enough to try garlic ice cream, especially if it came free
Gilroy (just south of San Jose) has their garlic festival every year. Garlic ice cream is popular along with garlic wine, garlic candy…..
i’ll try it once, otherwise i’ll pass.
once!
once
Don’t think so…I don’t like garlic and I love ice cream so I don’t think I want to ruin my ice cream with garlic!
I’d try it. I love ice cream and garlic so putting them together might not be so bad.
I would probably try the garlic ice cream but I can’t imagine that it would be very good; unless, of course there was maybe tomato (a fruit) sauce added also!
I would try anything once…but garlic?.Joan
I love Garlic but not in my icecream. definitely not in Royal Banana Split or Fried Ice Cream, my favorites. I love em all!
I was out in Gilroy CA back in the late 70′s That was when I first ever heard of anyone talking about garlic icecream. How long has it been around? I first thought it was a joke but come to find out it is real. I would try some, anyway it would be health for you.
