ONE MORE WAY TO SAY “THANK YOU”
Posted by: Turkey Hill Team
Independence Day is just around the corner, but while we’re planning that backyard barbeque or watching that baseball game, we should take a moment to think about the brave men and women in our Armed Forces who are deployed overseas in harm’s way.
The Pennsylvania National Guard is represented by about 6,000 men and women that are currently deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Many of these brave soldiers have strong ties to those of that work here; they are our coworkers, our friends, relatives, and our neighbors. In support of those individuals, Turkey Hill Dairy and Turkey Hill Minit Markets have teamed up for something we are calling “Operation Hometown Hello.”
The operation is pretty simple: There’s a box at each of the 250 Turkey Hill Minit Markets throughout eastern, central and southern Pennsylvania. The purpose of the box is to collect donated items to be sent to the soldiers overseas. They can be items you purchase in the store or items you bring from home. When the box is filled (hopefully often), Turkey Hill Dairy and Turkey Hill Minit Markets will ship it 6,000 miles around the world to those Pennsylvania National Guard members serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Unfortunately we can’t send Turkey Hill ice cream or iced tea to the soldiers (trust us, we tried to think of a way to do it), but below is a list of the top 10 most requested items by the troops. Next time you’re in a Turkey Hill Minit Market, why not send a Hometown Hello by purchasing one of these items for the box?
1. Individual size peanut packets
2. Single-serve beef jerky products
3. Packs of gum
4. Non-chocolate candies
5. Pens and pencils
6. Pocket-sized notebooks
7. Single-serve bags of flavored sunflower seeds
8. Individual packs of pretzel rods
9. Protein and energy bars
10. Granola bars
For more information about Operation Hometown Hello and other Turkey Hill outreach efforts, visit TurkeyHillCares.com. And, for a good laugh, check out Stephen Colbert and Tom Hanks attempting to put together a care package for the troops (which includes ice cream and puppies).

Every month is Turkey Hill Ice Cream Month on my calendar.
July 27th, 2009 at 6:04 pmI already have my one-year old granddaughter hooked on Turkey Hill Ice Cream. She sits excitedly next to me every time I have my ice cream dessert, waiting for HER TURN!
July 18th, 2009 at 6:49 amI have been drinking Turkey Hill Green Tea and also Turkey Hill Ice Cream. All the brands I have had so far are wonderful and several of my friends started to buy it too and they love it too. I only wish we could send the troops some, they would really enjoy it.
July 13th, 2009 at 10:12 pmBoy oh boy have we had fun with the weather and ice cream. This past week we went through 8 containers with friends..3 were my fav – vanilla bean believe it or not!
July 10th, 2009 at 8:11 amThank You Turkey Hill for remembering and reminding us.
July 3rd, 2009 at 1:52 pmCould you make your ice cream in a candy flavor and make them dot shaped? That way, you could send the troops your “ice cream” in paper ribbons and it wouldn’t melt.
July 3rd, 2009 at 11:38 amyour ice cream cones picture looks like flowers, so true wonderful good
July 2nd, 2009 at 6:21 pmI work with a group called Letters from Home. We send packages to the troops worldwide three times a year. Our organization was just now featured in the June 19th edition of PEOPLE magazine. There is a letter in that issue that anyone can sign and send to us for our July 12th mailing. We assemble 4,000-6,000 goodie bags for each mailing. Whatever anyone can do for our soldiers is greatly appreciated–my husband is retired from the Air Force (two tours in Vietnam.)
July 2nd, 2009 at 12:06 pmI think it is wonderful that you care about our soldiers. I think your caring is important to all of us. By the way, your ice cream is awesome! Ever since I brought it home, it’s the only brand my husband will buy!

Love Party Cake!
The Commander of our local V F W is in Iraq now, and the Post and Ladies Auxiliary have adopted his unit. We send numerous packages weekly to the unit. But I will get some things to our local Turkey Hill, so close to home.Thank you for doing your part. We all thank our military for keeping us safe here at home. Also wish TH ice cream could get there.
July 1st, 2009 at 5:51 pmWell, hopefully, they can all come home soon and catch up on their ice cream eating. Thanks for the tips on what to send them while they are dreaming about Turkey Hill ice cream.
July 1st, 2009 at 5:26 pmIt would be great to send ice cream to the troops overseas. I am a GS Leader & we send Girl Scout cookies over the the troops every year. God bless our troops & keep them safe & hope they ALL return home safely and SOON!!!!
July 1st, 2009 at 4:20 pmI bet the troops would love TH ice cream even if it were made the same way an astronaught eats their food! As we all know TH ice cream tastes good in any flavor, form or shape!
July 1st, 2009 at 3:44 pmWe had rain on all but 6 days this month in NH. Turkey Hill Moose Tracks helps keep my spirits up!
July 1st, 2009 at 3:25 pmLove Turkey Hill and think that new limited addition flavor sounds awesome. Hope they have it in our store. Tom Hanks is fabulous..thanks Turkey Hill.
July 1st, 2009 at 3:22 pmThe Colbert report was cute, Tom Hanks was great. What a great way to support the troops. I love Puppy’s and Turkey Hill ice cream. Whenever we go camping we look for it in the stores. We found it in Virginia. There are only a few flavors we have not tried. They are all GOOD!!!
July 1st, 2009 at 3:03 pmIce Cream is one of the neccessities of life. A day without ice cream is worse than a day without sunshine.
July 1st, 2009 at 3:02 pmTHANK YOU
July 1st, 2009 at 2:58 pmHappy 4th of July and thank you for reminding us to do whatever we can for the troops!
July 1st, 2009 at 2:28 pmMy family loves Turkey Hill drinks and especially the ice cream!
I bet the soldiers would like Turkey Hill “astronaut ice cream” if it could be done. I used to love that stuff as a child! Thanks for helping our troops!
July 1st, 2009 at 1:56 pmYour ice cream rocks!
July 1st, 2009 at 1:51 pmIT IS SO GREAT THAT OUR TROOPS ARE BEING THOUGHT OF. THEY ARE SO DESERVING OF WHAT EVER WE CAN DO FOR THEM. I SURE BET THEY WOULD LOVE SOME TURKEY HILL ICE CREAM. KEEP THINKING AND MAYBE YOU CAN COME UP WITH AN IDEA TO GET SOME TO THEM.
July 1st, 2009 at 1:37 pmHAPPY 4TH OF JULY!
MAY GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS,AND GOD BLESS THE USA.
God bless our military men, women and families. We must not forget what they are doing for us. Thank you, Turkey Hill, for helping those of us who feel so helpless have a way to make a difference in their days.

July 1st, 2009 at 12:49 pmThank You for support of our troops their are so many soliders that do not have family to mail then what they need
July 1st, 2009 at 12:37 pmLove your Ice Cream I live in Ohio so it is limited where I can find it.
I have friends over in Iraq and I heard the temps there this past week were 120 degrees, so no wonder you can’t ship ice cream. Keep working on it though, its a good idea. Maybe you can get some hints from Omaha Steaks. Keep up the good work.
July 1st, 2009 at 12:13 pmTurkey Hill is such a unique company!
July 1st, 2009 at 12:10 pmI love your website and I love the way you support many great organizations trying to help others.
We have been amassing items for the soldiers, battered women’s shelter and food pantry using sales with double coupons. All we pay for is the tax. It is surprising how much you can get for little or no cost. Think how nice it would have been for another Pa. unit back in 1778 if Molly Pitcher could have brought the men TH instead of water at the Battle of Monmouth.
July 1st, 2009 at 11:51 amOur troops deserve everything! Thank you. Turkey Hill.
July 1st, 2009 at 11:36 amLeave it to Steve….
July 1st, 2009 at 11:26 amcrazy guy.
I like Steve Colbert…and Turkey Hill ice cream……….
I know that Turkey Hill is not doing this for the accolades however it is awesome that you are working to try and make our troops feel a little bit of home with the items they so enjoy. I am going to do what I can to help but it will probably be in the form of a donation since both my husband and I are disabled. However the ONLY ice cream anyone will ever find in our home is Turkey Hill. I hope we win some free ice cream but I will not be disappointed if we do not.
July 1st, 2009 at 11:16 amOur family loves Turkey Hill !!!. When company comes over we always serve Diet Orange Ice Tea. The whole family loves it. Our grandsons love Turkey Hill party cake ice cream.
July 1st, 2009 at 10:47 amOpertion Hometown Hero is a great idea. We always have troops asking for local favorites…tasty cakes, Little Debbies, Utz potato chips, etc. Too bad we can’t send them Turkey Hill. ~jane http://www.sponsorthetroops.org
July 1st, 2009 at 10:27 amI wished we lived back in Pennsylvania — we live in Ohio and the Turkey Hill items are limited at our stores in Northeast Ohio.
Luv the ice cream — at least we can get that. Trying to get our local store to stock the drinks and the “fun” items i.e. ice cream bars, etc.
Keep up the great work — especially helping our boys overseas. We need more companies like Turkey Hill.
July 1st, 2009 at 10:26 amThank you Turkey Hill for your support of our troops. And God bless all of them and keep them safe.
P.S. Your Bronx Bombers ice cream is AWESOME!! Thank You!!!!!
July 1st, 2009 at 10:09 amMy church group also sent care packages to our troops in Afghanistan. We were told that the troops could purchase drinks and toiletries but not snacks, so we sent 4 boxes of beef jerky, homemade cookies, nuts ( they really love pistachios), popcorn and anything else we could think of. I am so proud that Turkey Hill is so concerned about the moral of the men and women serving in our Armed Forces that you would support this care package effort! TURKEY HILL RULES!!!!!
July 1st, 2009 at 9:59 amThat was an awsome video!!
July 1st, 2009 at 9:49 amSince many of the troops returning to the States go thry Baltimore Airport, how about providing Turkey Hill at the airport
July 1st, 2009 at 9:46 amThat video was great! If only there was a way to send ice cream to the soldiers!
July 1st, 2009 at 9:28 amRight on Turkey Hill! Everybody needs to do their little part for our soldiers who sacrifice so much.
July 1st, 2009 at 9:24 amI think it’s a wonderful program. All the best to your success with it!
July 1st, 2009 at 9:16 amTurkey Hill is the greatest as are our dedicated US Troops in Iraq. Supporting them makes them know we love them and what they are doing for us. Wish you could send IC but maybe you will come up with a plan, Large plane with Large freezer unit inside. Yes Yes
July 1st, 2009 at 9:15 amKudos to Turkey Hill!
July 1st, 2009 at 9:12 amWe love Turkey Hill Ice Cream!!
I too agree that what you are doing for the troops is most admirable. I feel bad that I don’t live in Pennsylvania near these marts. I would certainly donate these items to be shipped to the troops. Does Turkey Hill have any such programs outside of Pennsylvania? I live in Maryland and certainly wouldn’t mind doing my part in thanking the troops overseas.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:59 amWhat a nice idea! Thank you to all our troops!
July 1st, 2009 at 8:50 amGreat idea, no matter how “tight” the budget is it’s good to know you can help our troops with little things also.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:47 amBTW, National Ice Cream month sounds like the perfect opportunity (excuse!) to eat ice cream everyday! Woohoo!
It’s always good to read items in support of our troops – thank you – and a big thank you to our military.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:47 amWhen I was a kid we collected scrap metal and stuff to ‘help’ the war effort. This is a better idea it helps the ones we love and shows personal hugs in a wonderful way. P.S. We Grand Ma’s and Grand Pa’s LOVE your icecream! Being a Senior does have its pleasures! Rose
July 1st, 2009 at 8:43 amHopefully all of your readers will purchase a few items for our troops. These men and women, I am sure, will thank Turkey Hill for their thoughtfulness.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:30 amAbsolutely wonderful idea!!!
July 1st, 2009 at 8:30 amWhat a wonderful way for our men and women serving overseas to be remembered on the 4th of July. I think all the stores that sell Turkey Hill products in different states should do the same thing, the items would really pile up because I know everyone would want to donate something.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:16 amWas that really Turkey Hill ice cream they were scooping?
LEt’s hear it for the USO!!
Yvonne
July 1st, 2009 at 8:13 amlove turkey hill ice cream…yummm

July 1st, 2009 at 7:52 amThank you Turkey Hill for thinking of our troops. The men and women in our Armed Services deserve our support.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:46 amTurkey Hill stands for quality products and your response to our troups just makes me appreciate you all the more. Wonderful idea. Thank you. Perhaps there was a way to send ice cream/coupons to the families of our troups or at least when they return stateside.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:38 amHappy 4th of July to every man and woman that has served in our Armed Forces.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:36 amI love ice cream with gram cracker crumbs. Like cheesecake with gram cracker crumbs.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:34 amGreat way to support our men and woemen in the service.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:32 amGreat idea of having the boxes for donations, in your stores. I wish there were Turkey Hill stores in my area so I could contribute to this great idea. Too bad some of the other gas station/store chains dont jump on this idea too,, think of all the more soldiers that would benefit! Keep working on that idea of sending TH ice cream to the troops!
July 1st, 2009 at 7:32 amKudos to Trukey Hill!
July 1st, 2009 at 7:31 amSince I can’t go into a store Lucy will .Anything to do for the men and women in the service we’re all for. So look out Turkey Hill Stores here we come!!!!Way to go Turkey Hill.Thank You so much.

July 1st, 2009 at 7:12 amI think its great what Turkey Hill is doing for the troops. Bless them all.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:11 amWhat a wonderful idea to have your stores collect items for our troops. I am going to TH store today for 3 containers of ice cream and will certainly put some items in the box. My neighbor man is in Iraq and his children miss him so much. This is a great thing to do. Love Turkey Hill. Linda
July 1st, 2009 at 7:10 amLove this! It is so very important to remember our soldiers, and what they are fighting for. They love getting any kind of care packages!
I have had brothers and a nephew that have been in Iraq, and to know that they are being thought of is so wonderful. I am glad that you posted the most requested items – so people can see what these mesn and women want/need. Sometimes it is just something small like a pencil or paper that can make a soldier’s day! God Bless America, my home sweet home!
July 1st, 2009 at 7:08 amI love all different flavors that have chocolate. Your ice cream is great. Keep up the good work.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:07 amWhat a kind gesture

July 1st, 2009 at 7:05 amThe Colbert skit was good, but not nearly as good as Turkey Hill Ice Cream. Wish we had more of your products in Columbus, Ohio.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:04 amI think it’s very warm and thoughtful that T.H. does this for our troops. I think it’s a nice little something back from home. It’s awesome to show them in any little way that you think of them. I too am a T.H.fan with such a great line of ice cream i have a hard time making up my mind which to buy yikes!!:)keep up the good work T.H.
July 1st, 2009 at 7:00 amsaw the colbert skit with tom hanks. very funny. I love that guy, and turkey hill ice cream too.
July 1st, 2009 at 6:50 amgreat idea!
July 1st, 2009 at 6:49 amThank you for doing this for the military. My husband is a retired military and so he knows first hand what it means to know the people are behind the soldiers.
July 1st, 2009 at 6:38 am[...] And if you live near a Turkey Hill Minit Mart, please check out this post about their new program to support the PA National Guardsmen serving in Iraq and Afghanistan:
July 1st, 2009 at 6:36 amSounds like a nice way of saying thank you!
July 1st, 2009 at 6:34 amWhat a wonderful idea to remember our Troops! God Bless America! And I love your new Summer Peach Pie ice cream! I love Turkey Hill!
July 1st, 2009 at 6:33 amSupplies to the troops is always in good taste. The desire to share the wonderful taste of ice cream with the troops is outstanding. I think that someone from Turkey Hill could contact the local National Guard Armory and ask to speak with someone involved in the “Yellow Ribbon” program that helps the troops and their families. Maybe the government would be willing to ship the ice cream, packed in dry ice, to our folks overseas. That would be a super win-win situation: you donate the ice cream and Uncle Sam donates the freight. Worth a try. Power to July (also my birthday month) and all the delicious ice cream to be had.
July 1st, 2009 at 6:32 amSounds better each time I read this.
July 1st, 2009 at 6:23 amSemper Fidelis, remembering our troops & thanks for your delicious ice cream
July 1st, 2009 at 6:17 amThank you for suggesting a wonderful way to continue supporting our troops. I have copied the list and will be participating by dropping off items at the designated boxes. I have a nephew in Iraq and they are always in need of things from home. They so much appreciate the “gifts” from the people at home. They feel loved and supported when we all pitch in to help make their lives a little easier there. Maybe, you can send the troops chef the liquid form of the icecream and they can mix and freeze it there in their machines.
July 1st, 2009 at 6:14 amTurkey Hill – you are AWESOME! You are helping the troops who are all so dear to so many of us (we have a friend in Iraq who we miss terribly)…. AND you have such delicious ice cream! Every time I go to the store it is almost too hard to decide which flavors to buy. However, the Peanut Butter Tastycake is right up there on my kids list!! Thank you Turkey Hill.
July 1st, 2009 at 5:56 amGreat idea
July 1st, 2009 at 5:51 amGod Bless America! there are so many ways we can help the troops-I work in our local library where we collect good used paperbacks which one of our patrons ships to the troops at his own expense-our local Knights of Columbus has been sending care packages to the troops for years! Massapequa Park rules! Remember our troops on the 4th-they are why we can celebrate our freedoms-thank you to Turkey Hill for supporting our guys and gals
July 1st, 2009 at 5:46 amI adore your black raspberry ice cream.
July 1st, 2009 at 5:45 amTurkey Hill….Delicious…even better when it is on sale.
July 1st, 2009 at 5:38 amDuring WWII, my grandparent’s bought my father a coming home gift. It was an ice cream parlor, but they only sold Breyer’s. In fact, during the war, they sold more ice cream than any store in Philadelphia. I practically was raised on Breyer’s ice cream, but these day’s, I am hooked on Turkey Hill. I wonder what Grandma and Grandpop would say?
July 1st, 2009 at 4:40 amI’m so glad to hear JULY is ICE CREAM MONTH, its also my BIRTHDAY month, so it is only fitting, I LOVE TURKEY HILL ICE CREAM!

June 30th, 2009 at 8:56 pmI just want to say that Turkey Hill is the best Ice Cream company in the world I never eat any other brand. It is so nice to see that your company is doing this for the troops it goes to show that there are people out there that care about others. Great Job Turkey Hill and just incase you don’t here it much Thank you very much for all you do and have done.

June 30th, 2009 at 8:37 pmThank you Turkey Hill for remembering our troops who are selflessly serving our country.
June 30th, 2009 at 8:34 pmMakes me wish I lived in Pennsylvania!
June 30th, 2009 at 8:29 pmI like the idea of coupons, so they could buy Turkey Hill ice cream when they return. Maybe someone could figure out how to insert one of those tiny push button music boxes into each coupon, so it plays music like the ice cream trucks that travel through the neighborhoods in summer!
My brother-in-law is in Iraq and I just wanted to thank you for thinking of all the soldiers and seeing to it that their needs are met as well as all of your proud customers. Thank you Turkey Hill!
June 30th, 2009 at 7:59 pmThanks Turkey Hill for remembering our troops. Perhaps you’d consider a welcome home coupon package for them too in order to make up for the Turkey Hill pleasures they missed while serving.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:53 pmThank you for supporting our troops Turkey Hill! Without our troops none of us would be free to eat Turkey Hill products and that would be terrible!
June 30th, 2009 at 7:46 pmI loved the skit with Colbert and Hanks.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:36 pmTurkey Hill Ice Cream……….A great way to end your day!
June 30th, 2009 at 7:33 pmThank you for remembering our troops. As the mother of two of them let me add instant powder drinks to your list.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:23 pmWe have no Turkey Hill stores here – but I’m going to take this list to my church and see if we can set up our own donation system to supply what’s really needed.
June 30th, 2009 at 7:12 pmThank you, Turkey Hill, for remembering our troops. Who knows, maybe one day you will be able to send your delicious ice cream to them in a care package!!!
June 30th, 2009 at 7:07 pmTurkey Hill is a great company that does great things.
June 30th, 2009 at 6:50 pmThat is such a great idea! I know my nephew always enjoyed the ‘care’ packages when they arrived to him in Mozul. He would always share with his friends there.

June 30th, 2009 at 4:12 pmMy Mother’s favorite saying when she was a kid in the 1920’s.
Turkey Hill is the only quality ice cream I enjoy. A friend of mine introduced me to the brand almost 7 years ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
June 30th, 2009 at 4:06 pmThis looks like a great program! I know my husband always appreciated getting packages when he was serving over there. There are a lot of things that we take for granted that they can’t get over there. I used to ship him boxes of cereal that he couldn’t get on his ship. Of course, tea and ice cream would have been better, but you know how that goes!
Thanks for thinking of our troops!
