In this new Ice Cream Journal feature, we’ll ask five ice cream-related trivia questions. You can use the internet to find the answers, but not all of these questions will be easy! Once you’ve got the answers (or think you do), email your answers via the Ask Ernie link in the right hand sidebar or send them to icecreamjournal@gmail.com by the end of the day on Thursday, July 9. We’ll choose one person with the correct answers at random to receive this week’s trivia prize.
Here are the questions. Feel free to discuss them with a comment, but don’t give away any of the answers. Good luck!
1. Which three U.S. cities are locked in a battle to determine which location gave birth to the ice cream sundae?
2. Which Native American tribe named the land which inspired the Turkey Hill Diary name?
3. In what year did Turkey Hill purchase its first Giant Cow?
4. The world’s largest ice cream sandwich was created in 1988. Rounding its weight up to the nearest 500 pounds (use the weight most commonly cited in most historical accounts), how many Turkey Hill ice cream sandwiches would you need to buy to equal the weight of that record-setting treat?
5. What percentage of people, according to a Harris poll, admit to eating ice cream in the bath tub?
TRIVIA PRIZE: This week’s trivia prize is the Alessi Big Love ice cream bowl designed Miriam Missi. The bowl is available in light blue, orange, pink or green (winner gets their choice of color). The best part – and the reason it’s called “Big Love” – is the spoon with the heart-shaped end. The idea is that you can eat off of one side of the heart, while you significant other (including pets) can eat off the other side!
The prize will be awarded to one person who emails all the correct answers to icecreamjournal@gmail.com by the end of the day on Thursday, July 9. Good luck!

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
So, according to the information I read about the origin of the ice cream sundae, this wonderful treat has been around for over 100 years! Wow! I’m glad I live now and not before the time of ice cream sundaes!
Good point about the ice cream sundae. We’re all lucky to live in the era of Moose Tracks, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Party Cake, Duetto and other ice cream flavors!
Ooh, a game about ice cream, and some of the questions are math-related, too(one of my other favorite things)… yippee!
Makes my brain hurt on Monday. Almost like brain freeze from eating ice cream fast!
Wow ice cream trivia! I want to “Google” these questions just so i can find out the answers!
Was that a bathtub full of ice cream or eating ice cream in bathtub… hmmm. Thanks for questions, i look forward to the answers.
That bowl holds about 1/2 pint – which should keep me from eating a whole container of Stuff’d Moose Tracks all at once!
So are these people eating ice cream while taking a bath or just sitting in a dry tub? It takes all kinds!
ohhhhhhhh..love the bowl! My hubby would have to have two of them, one for each hand (forget the pennylicks!)
Thank heavens I made it to the store & restocked my empty freezer! Reading these trivia questions has made me crave some Graham Slam!
Mmm…all this talk about ice cream…I think I will go make myself a Coke float with some yummy vanilla ice cream right now!
Wow, that’s a styling ice cream bowl!
I love some of the comments about the bath tub full of Ice Cream! Turkey Hill Ice Cream Lovers are the funniest, & most creative bunch! I am happy to be in number with them. Now, where did I leave the Root Beer Float Duetto……..maybe I will check the bath tub.
wow, this is tough!! (but fun)
What a lovely prize! But darn those look tough.
I would love to have a pink one!
Ok, this was hard! Fun, though….and makes me want some ice cream!
I LOVE Turkey Hill ice cream. I’ve got 3 little girls who would think it’s great to share some ice cream sundaes out of that bowl! I guess I am off to find some answers!
wow….i’ve tried eating ice cream various places, but not in the tub! it would melt too quick w/ my love of hot showers!
Great prize! Interesting trivia questions, Good Luck to all!
What a great looking bowl. I’m going to have to send in some answers.
So since it was a national holiday, my parents always reserve the day entirely and strictly for “family.” We are instructed to turn off our cell-phones, unplug our computer and remain “gadget-free” for the entire holiday. That way we are able to appreciate the reason for the holiday, celebrate our nation’s historical figures that made the day possible, and give thanks with our family. That is all well and good, but the embargo on internet lasted 2 days and I missed reading this blog
that was truely tragic and I was so tempted to sneak on and see what the topic of discussion was, read some funny posts, and see if there were any additional prizes. But I kept my promise and suffered through with no turkey hill blog…but im back!
Of course my eyes are drawn to the photograph before I even read the entry. I wanted what I saw even before I knew it would be given for FREE to a winner! But unfortunately I don’t have a significant other to share ice cream with
no boyfriend, or even a roomate
And my apartment does not allow pets. But then again I think that might actually work to my advantage because I am not really sure that I would want to share any of my precious ice cream. I think I would rather savor the flavor and leave it all to myself. I think I need to go back to kindergarden and learn how to share!
I saw the Turkey Hill cow this weekend driving on I-85 just outside of Greensboro, NC. I sure wish the big container of ice cream on there was real. It’s probably a good thing it wasn’t or there might have been a cow-jacking!!
The only thing that makes this bowl even prettier, is 3 scoops of Turkey Hill Ice Cream
Wow….great questions…thanks for the challenge!
I really love those ice cream bowls. They are very creative and fun looking. My kids would love them.
I sit on the computer learning about ice cream as my husband hides in the living room eating it. Sometimes life is unfair!
Wow! Nice bowl. I’d love to fill it with Black Raspberry and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.
Oh I hope I win!
Good luck everyone!
Cute heart-shaped spoon. Would I be evil to eat out of both sides of the spoon myself?
Wow, I never thought about eating ice cream in the bath tub… I might try that out!
While searching for the answers, I’ve learned alot about the history of ice cream. There were lots of things I didn’t know about it. Well… I do know I love to eat it!
Nice bowl. Fill it with Party Cake and you’ve got some good stuff!
That is the cutest bowl just not big enough for all my ice cream
I would love to win this prize, what a cool bowl!
Fascinating subject! I received the trivia questions on Tuesday and so won’t bother to participate in the quiz.
But I hope you will announce the answers.
I just received this email on Tuesday morning — what’s the deadline for the contest?
I love eating ice cream in the tub! It is the ultimate experience. It is like eating it in the swimming pool, but without the sun to melt your treat!
Those are much to hard for me…lol Keep up the journal. I love it!
Thanks for the contest – I love doing research over the Internet, especially on something so good.
Like the bowl…LOVE the spoon! Even better with ice cream in it!
Turkey Hill ice cream is enjoyed with any bowl or even right out to the box.
Yummm
That was fun, keep up the “investigation” posts.
This trivia game is going to be a lot of fun. I hope I get all the answers correct, I just love the heart shaped spoon and the Alessi bowl looks beautiful in orange !!!

I’d love to give the trivia questions a try but alas I believe I’m just too busy.
That is such a cute bowl and spoon.
I’ve never been one for trivia games. Some people love them and I want to but I just don’t ever seem to.
A little trivia question for someone at Turkey HIll: Did the saying “Pretty please with a cherry on top” come about due to the ice cream sundae?
For questions 4 and 5 can we be in the ballpark (within a couple of numbers of the exact number)?
With these trivia Mondays I hope to learn quite a bit about ice cream. I better go now and begin my search for the answers.
what a great set of questions. I love learning stuff like this and the challenge to find the answer. good luck everyone.
What’s with the math problem (#4)???
I would love to know the answers but now that the kids are home probably have very little time to look them all up. It would be great if they would help but they are much better at eating the ice cream. Well, we’ll give it our best shot!
Nope, never ate ice cream in the tub either,
Wish I had more time to spend on the trivia questions! Good luck everyone!
those questions were crazy i didn’t no any answers. good luck to the winner!
Who eats ice cream in the bathtub? It would melt too quickly!

I’m not real picky about what bowl I use for ice cream … as long as I get to eat ice cream.
Who needs a bowl? I live alone so can eat right out of the carton if I want. The spoon is cute, though.

MONDAY TRIVIAS ARE FUN
One of my daughters delights in her “spa day” treat for herself. Every once in a while she soaks in a long hot bubble bath complete with bath pillow and candles and turkey hill ice cream! Her favorite is the chocolate ice cream with peanut butter swirls and peanut butter cups! Along with extreme cookies and creme! I’m always secretly jealous!! Now, on to those trivia questions. . . .
Great trivia quiz! I hope I win!
What a stylish spoon
I love Turkey Hill Ice Cream! My fave is black cherry!
Pretty dumb when it comes to quizes. Too lazy to delve for the answers Good luck to winner.
Neat spoon , good for taking medician with a ice cream chaser,
I am intrigued by #5. Never thought of eating ice cream in the bath tub, I’ll have to give it a try. Hey, how about a poll where people respond to the most unusual places they have eaten Turkey Hill.
Love the bowl and spoon!
Interesting bowl.Wonder if you can purchase it,in case you don’t win the trivia contest.Either way,Turkey Hill is the freshest tasting ice cream and should be the only ice cream allowed to be placed in the fun looking bowl.
that is the cutes ice cream set!! love the spoon!! <3
Sure, I’ve done that….. A good book and a dish of ice cream and warm water in the tub is great.
Good luck to all…will abe back to the journal after a few days of vacation!!
@J Mike:
I don’t think so, because I got #4 wrong when I was really close to the answer.
Im never eaten ice cream in the bath tub. I think that it would almost be a hassle cause you have to draw the bath and then go get the ice cream and go back. I like to eat my ice cream right away before it melts. O well, thats just me. I would like it though if someone special brought me ice cream while I was in a bath. Good Luck to everyone on the trivia.
I have a superb feeling that I got the answers right and hope to win. Good luck to all participants.
lOVE THE SPOON
