RECIPE: FRENCH VANILLA RICE PUDDING
Posted by: Turkey Hill Team

This is another recipe adapted from one submitted during our holiday recipe contest. This one comes from Terry Ann M. of Oaklyn, NJ. Her original recipe was called “Hasty Holiday Rice Pudding” and used Egg Nog ice cream, but you can also make it with Turkey Hill French Vanilla ice cream.
You have to admit, rice pudding is really underrated as far as desserts go. Not only is it incredibly easy to make, but it’s delicious. It really is! If you try this recipe and agree, let me know.
FRENCH VANILLA RICE PUDDING
INGREDIENTS
2 1/4 cups of Turkey Hill French Vanilla ice cream
1/3 cup craisins (cranberry raisins)
1 Granny Smith apple, pared, cored, sliced
3/4 cup of instant rice
Optional garnish: whipped cream, cinnamon
DIRECTIONS
In a medium saucepan, combine the ice cream, craisins and apple. Bring to boiling. Stir in the Rice, cook and stir one minute. Cover, remove from heat, let sit 5 minutes. Serve warm or chilled (warm in the winter or cold in the summer, if you’d like). Top with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkling of cinnamon (optional).

July 13th, 2009 at 2:00 pmThis is actually a great idea. Cuts down sort of on the amount of sugar you would normally add to a rice pudding recipe.
July 13th, 2009 at 1:30 pmINTERESTING CONCEPT. NEVER THOUGHT OF USING ICE CREAM INSTEAD OF MILK IN MY RICE PUDDING. I MAY TRY USING ICE CREAM INSTEAD OF MILK NEXT TIME I MAKE IT. OF COURSE IT WILL BE TURKEY HILL VANILLA BEAN.
July 13th, 2009 at 1:09 pmSounds great – ice cream & pudding together. Yummy
July 13th, 2009 at 12:56 pmThis is certainly a recipe worth trying. If you like rice pudding and Turkey Hill ice cream you get the best of both worlds.

July 13th, 2009 at 12:13 pmHi Turkey Hills fan,
July 13th, 2009 at 11:25 amI made several rice and bread pudding using Turkey hill ice cream. This one is good, but try using vanilla instead of egnog ice cream. I don’t care for apple in my bread pudding put if you add chopped cranberries and chopped walnut. that is real good. Or just try adding chopping raisin and cholate chip in your bread pudding or rice pudding.
We love rice pudding, now I know a quick and delicious way to make it. I would never have thought to use TH ice cream in it. I will make it this afternoon. Thanks again TH for another great idea.
July 13th, 2009 at 10:52 amYou had me until you said rice pudding. O well!
July 13th, 2009 at 10:35 amSounds yummy! Rice pudding is one of my favorite desserts after TH ice cream, of course!
July 13th, 2009 at 10:31 amI think I’ll stick with ice cream! Rice pudding a little toooo healthy for me! LOL!

July 13th, 2009 at 10:08 amI’m not a big fan of rice pudding, but I just bought some Turkey Hill Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream this weekend and it is delicious!!
July 13th, 2009 at 10:03 amthat sounds different i didn,t known rice pudding was made from ice cream.
July 13th, 2009 at 9:56 amMy preference is to pour the rice pudding and raisons on top of the vanilla ice cream.
July 13th, 2009 at 9:48 amHmmmmm. Not for me, thanks. I prefer my ice cream straight.
July 13th, 2009 at 9:42 amI haven’t found one thing posted on the blog that I wouldn’t like! If its got Turkey Hill Ice Cream in it, its gotta be good.

July 13th, 2009 at 9:27 amI enjoy rice….just not as a dessert… I’ll stick to TH as my dessert.
July 13th, 2009 at 9:23 amWell, you truly can learn something new everyday…I have been cooking a long time and we LOVE rice pudding but have never seen or even thought of using ice cream in it- but can’t wait to try it!
July 13th, 2009 at 9:19 amRice pudding made with ice cream seems quite different
July 13th, 2009 at 8:53 amI love rice pudding! But I am unsure about the ice cream part. It sounds like it is wasting my vanilla bean ice cream. Think I’ll just stick to using whole milk.
July 13th, 2009 at 8:47 amSORRY AS FAR AS ICE CREAM IS CONCERNED, RICE PUDDING ISN’T PART OF THE EQUATION.
July 13th, 2009 at 8:24 amMy husband and I love Rice Pudding. This recipe sounds good. Will give it a try. Thanks.
July 13th, 2009 at 8:20 amSounds good but I still prefer TH Tin Roof Sundae with TH Fudge Ripple as a close second!

July 13th, 2009 at 8:19 amThat recipe does not appeal to me at all.
July 13th, 2009 at 8:15 amWow, this sounds great. I may have to leave work early to start cooking!
July 13th, 2009 at 8:11 amOur entire family loves rice pudding. I rarely make it in the summer because it takes at least 45 minutes cooking on top of the stove and another 45 minutes in the oven for a nice brown crust (we like it that way).
July 13th, 2009 at 7:56 amNow I have no excuse…this recipe looks so good, I’d enjoy a bowl full right now if I had it.
Thanks TH.
After reading the title, I thought this would be a recipe for rice pudding flavor ice cream! Now there’s a thought!
July 13th, 2009 at 7:52 amI also love rice pudding, would give this receipe a try if I could get TH ice cream here in Burlington, N.C. Not here yet, but lets hope spme day. July 13th, 2009 at 7:39 amThanks so much for the recipe. I made it and it is delicious. I love rice pudding and this one is a keeper. Turkey Hill Ice Cream is amazing as is, but to use it in recipes really is great. Guess I will have to buy some for baking or cooking, because I have plenty on hand for dishes and cones. Linda

July 13th, 2009 at 6:45 amI’d rather just have the ice cream

July 13th, 2009 at 6:36 amRice pudding…not one of my favorites though.

July 13th, 2009 at 6:28 amThat sounds really good
July 13th, 2009 at 6:26 amI wouldn’t waste delicious ice cream for rice pudding. There are recipes that use milk. The one I use has skim milk and it comes out pretty creamy.
July 13th, 2009 at 6:18 amSounds delicious.
July 13th, 2009 at 5:59 amI am not a big fan of rice pudding but my husband loves it I am going to make it for him tonight I going to leave out the apples but told my sister about the recipe and she going to try it with apples so we will see which one is better
July 13th, 2009 at 5:52 amThanks for the recipe! I’m tucking it away for the holidays this coming year. I think it will be a great favorite with the family.
July 13th, 2009 at 5:52 amMy family loves ice cream and rice pudding! The hard part will be saving enough ice cream to actually be able to make the recipe.
July 13th, 2009 at 5:51 amWill have to give it a try. TH french vanilla (or any of the TH vanillas) are great added to strawberry shortcake as well. Just split the cake in half & add a layer of the ice cream, top with the other half then put on your strawberries and whipped cream…it is dElicious!!
July 13th, 2009 at 5:27 amI love rice pudding and that recipe sounds yummy. Might have to try it…

July 12th, 2009 at 10:00 pmI like rice pudding but no one else in my family does so we’ll just eat ice cream.
July 12th, 2009 at 9:57 pmRice pudding isn’t for me but ice cream sure is!
July 12th, 2009 at 9:50 pmSo for 21 years of my life I have thought that rice pudding is the most disgusting food ever…even though I had never really tried it. It just seemed unappealing to mix a dinner side with a dessert. Rice had always been the mushy, tasteless filler on plate that stuck to the roof of my mouth, so why would I want it for dessert. I decided to give this recipe a try since it has turkey hill ice cream in it, and OMG it is delicious!
Thank you so much Terry Ann M. for opening my eyes to a wonderful dessert
July 12th, 2009 at 9:41 pmNote to self for future and to any Turkey Hill fans who plan on making this recipe…
You might want to use a large saucepan, cover it with a lid, or simmer to a boil (using medium heat) because I turned the stove all the way on high, causing the mixture to boil uncontrolably and splash out into mu skin. I now have 3 burn blisters on my hand and forearm
So I abandoned the recipe for now and just settled for a bowl of frozen ice cream…and I put a little of the ice cream on my burn and the pain went away! Whoever said ice cream cannot cure anything is wrong!!
July 12th, 2009 at 9:38 pmI’ll have to try this. My daughter and I like rice pudding. My wife claims not to, but she might like this one.
July 12th, 2009 at 9:24 pmI sent that recipe to like 10 people. It sounds so delicious!
July 12th, 2009 at 9:01 pmI love rice pudding! Combining it with ice cream sounds delicious.
July 12th, 2009 at 8:39 pmSounds yummy!
July 12th, 2009 at 8:30 pmI would leave out the raisins but the rice pudding sounds good !
July 12th, 2009 at 8:20 pmReceipe sounds good. My family really likes rice pudding.
July 12th, 2009 at 8:15 pmSounds too easy not to give it a try.

July 12th, 2009 at 7:39 pmI crave bread pudding and rice pudding during the summer when they’re about as unseasonal as you can think. That recipe sounds so simple and delicious

July 12th, 2009 at 7:21 pmnow I am not sure what to buy this week, french vanilla or a different turkey hill flavor. this is so exciting

July 12th, 2009 at 5:26 pmmmm sounds good… will have to try this one.
July 12th, 2009 at 4:32 pmIt’d be awesome with a combo of almonds and walnuts!
July 12th, 2009 at 4:20 pmThis sounds like a good combination minus the craisins. I might give it a try.
