It’s time for another round of trivia! This time, we promise there’s no tricky math questions. There was one last week that tripped up some people, including a few here at the Dairy.
Below are five ice cream-related trivia questions. You can use the internet to find the answers, but not all of these questions will be easy! Once you’ve got the answers (or think you do), email your answers via the Ask Ernie link in the right hand sidebar or send them to icecreamjournal@gmail.com by the end of the day on Thursday, July 16. We’ll choose one person with the correct answers at random to receive this week’s trivia prize.
1. In what year did Turkey Hill become Pennsylvania’s number one selling ice cream brand?
2. What’s the difference between sorbet and sherbet?
3. What’s the second most abundant ingredient in ice cream?
4. In what year was the U.S. Navy’s “Ice Cream Ship” commissioned?
5. What is the Ice Cream Journal’s “sister blog?”

TRIVIA PRIZE: Answer all of the above questions correctly and send them to icecreamjournal@gmail.com by the end of the day on Thursday, July 16 and you’ll be entered the really cool vintage ice cream sign pictured on the right. It’s perfect for adding a little personality to your kitchen or on your freezer! If you’d like to buy one for yourself, you can purchase one here.

Throughout National Ice Cream Month, we’re continuing to give away two free containers of ice cream to one comment chosen at random from each blog entry. The winners for the past few entries are “helen g b,” “Mary,” “Thomas,” “Linda F,” and “Karen.” Good luck to everyone in the future and keep those comments coming!

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
“Mary” as in ME?!?!?!??! Wooooooohooooooooooo
Cute sign, but it wouldn’t go with the nautical decor in my kitchen.
hmm interesting questions… i like the sign!
I like the sign but don’t know if I can find the time to play. Maybe next week.

Love the sign! Good Luck everyone on the Trivia questions!
Sorry that Monday is laundry day and no time to look up that trivia but I assure you there will be time for my Graham Slam.
great sign…good luck to me!!;)
LOL….:()
Another tricky one!
Thank goodness today wasn’t a friday becuase I must say I am a bit superstitious and on Friday the 13th I would be so afraid that something horrible would happen like my freezer would break and all my ice cream would melt, or Turkey Hill would get bought out by a different ice cream brand or go bankrupt, or I would develop an allergy for ice cream. Thank goodness there is no bad luck today
I can’t believe Turkey Hill wasn’t always America’s favorite ice cream brand! I can’t even think of a close competetor. What beat it out at some point? Then again, in its first years when many people do not know about Turkey Hill or have never tried it, they wouldn’t be properly informed. Thank goodness word spread quickly because the popularity means more flavors and more stockings in supermarkets. I hope that soon Turkey Hill ice cream can be bought at all chain super markets across the country!
Nice sign!!!
Yes, I was someone who was thrown by the math question. I Will try to do math for ice cream.
Cute sign
AHHHHHHHHHH..thank you for no math this week! I, too, was a victim last week!

Do you ever run out of trivia questions about ice cream?
Fun trivia! Love that sign!
I like I SCREAM’s comment… well guess what? Father’s Day Sunday I went to the grocery store, loaded up on all supplies needed for that evenings dinner, and because I was having company, I bought 4 cartons of TH ice cream to please the masses!… next morning I come into my kitchen and “stuff” is leaking out of my freezer….. Fridge/freezer finally gave out after 20 years and all my TH was wasted
I think I was more upset about that than having to purchase a new one!
I love this trivia. I hope to win a prize this month!
Will start researching for answers– after eating a bowl of ice cream!
I need some coffee ice-cream to work on these questions.
I’m not much of a trivia person, but I love your ice cream. Duetto is great for summer enjoyment.
I like to muse over the trivia questions, but I don’t have the patience for figuring them out. I like to spend my patience on more practical things like…..waiting out an an “Ice Cream Freeze Head Ache” before I can take my next delicious bite of Turkey Hill! I am a Loyal Fan!
That sign is really cute – wouldn’t work in my house but it’s still cute.
Love the challenging trivia questions. Started to do the one last week but got stumped! Will try again this week.

You’re right, these questions are much easier. Last week’s were too much to handle on a Monday!
My kids just decided that July 31st, the last day in Ice Cream month, we will have ice cream with our breakfast, lunch and dinner! Sounds good to me!
Delight your palate! Add a bit of happiness to every meal! You know where I’m headed; straight to the freezer for a moderate serving of delicious Turkey Hill Ice Cream. We can all use a little Turkey Hill Ice Cream happiness.
I could sure use a free ice cream treat everyday to get me thru this rainy summer that we’re having!
Love your ice cream, especially the Moose Tracks!
I love ice cream, especially Turkey Hill. During the holiday season I eat a lot of Egg Nog ice cream (hard to find in the local supermarkets). My favorites are butter pecan and vanilla. Also I notice that I eat mostly in the summer.
