Time for some end-of-the-week updates here on the Ice Cream Journal. Lots to talk about, so grab a spoon and settle in!
TRIVIA CONTEST WINNER – A bunch of people answered all the questions correctly, but the randomly selected winner is Jo-Ann P. Congrats Jo-Ann, and thanks to everyone who tried to answer this week’s questions. In case you’re curious, here are the answers:
1. 2007 was the year Turkey Hill became the #1 ice cream in Pennsylvania. (also accepted 2008)
2. The difference between sorbet and sherbet is that sorbet contains no dairy (sherbet contains a little).
3. The second most abundant ingredient in ice cream is air. (also accepted cream)
4. The US Navy’s “ice cream barge” was commissioned in 1945 and produced up to 1,500 gallons of ice cream per minute for soldiers and sailors serving in the Pacific region.
5. Ice Cream Ireland is the Ice Cream Journal’s sister blog. (found in the links section of this blog).
DAILY WINNERS- We continue to give away two free containers of Turkey Hill ice cream to comments chosen at random from every entry this month. The winners from the past few days are Linda Leffler, Betty, Shirley, and Alexa. Enjoy the ice cream, ladies!
WEIRD AND WACKY NEWS - We had some of you fooled, but a lot of you guessed correctly in choosing #4 as the fake news story. No, the President didn’t install an industrial sized ice cream freezer in the White House kitchen. The others are true: A teen did steal his dad’s car and lead police on a chase for some ice cream, a Jersey Shore ice cream shop did create a “Freedom Fighters” flavor, Unilever is building a $140 million ice cream factory in Russia, and Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum did harness the power of a Choco Taco to pitch a great game.
THE ICE CREAM JOURNAL GETS AN AWARD? – Well, not yet, but it has been named as a finalist in the Central Penn Business Journal’s annual “Best of the Web” awards. We’ll find out if it’s a winner during the ceremony on July 27. We didn’t create the Ice Cream Journal for awards, but if they want to give us one, we won’t turn it down!
And now, to celebrate the weekend upon us, here’s a picture that will definitely have you drooling and running to the freezer. WARNING: If you aren’t near a freezer or don’t have some ice cream nearby, DO NOT look at this photo. You’ve been warned!

Yes, we probably should have put some more space between the “warning” and the photo, but we were too distracted by that delicious drop of chocolate about to fall off the front of the cone. Time to raid the ice cream freezer in the Turkey Hill employee break room!!!

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
oh man, that looks yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy is 10 am too early for ice cream? hehehee
Okay – exactly where can you get an ice cream cone like that?

Congratulations to all!
Congratulations, winners! Enjoy the ice cream!
And Ernie, you’re kidding about the ice cream freezer in the employee break room, right? If not, I’m going to come work for Turkey Hill!

Chocolate on Any ice cream is Good.
I just found this blog, and what a picture to be greated with! Mmmm.. I’m eating a bowl of Graham Slam right now (arguably the best flavor of ice cream on the entire planet) and I think I need to add some hot fudge. And a cone. And more ice cream!
I think the president should install a giant ice cream freezer in the White House.Lots of important people might be in a better mood if they could have some Turkey Hill!
yes president should have a good supply of turkey hill… make all the stress easier.
Umm, thank goodness I’m at home…. headed to the freezer! Hope the blog gets the reward!
LOVE YOUR ICE CREAM !! Would love some in my freezer
The cone…… Oh My!!!!!
You have “really improved” my ice cream “making”
I’m thinking that in my future housey, I should just have a small “restaurant” “delli” “steak shop” “Chinese/Jap restuarant” etc. attached to it
Menus’s, etc., let my kid sit there and order his food and desert
Of course, the ice cream I serve, WILL be TURKEY HILL!
(unless I learn how to make my own, and do it
I LOVE to visit the journal every morning when I get up, seeing the Ice Cream pictures always puts me in a good mood the rest of the day.
Just Buy More Than 1 1/2 Gallon Of Turkey Hill & Buy Yourself & Ice Cream Freezer They are not that expensive. But, Would You Rather Have This?; Or Have NO TURKEY HILL ICE CREAM? RIGHT?
I am very surprised that the President didn’t install an ice cream freezer. Guess they just pay somebody to go to the store whenever they want some!
That picture is great–I need to have one of my grandchildren show me how to save it my computer to use as my screen saver!!
Wow delicious!!!!
Oh my goodness. It’s not even 7am and now I want some ice cream!
Hurry — catch that valuable drop of chocolate before it goes to waste. Nothing that delicious looking should be wasted. Hey, why am I still sitting here typing this — I ought to be enjoying some Turkey Hill ice cream right now. Happy weekend everybody!
I like my ice cream without all the extra stuff on top. Okay, maybe some chocolate sauce occasionally but not on a cone. too messy.
my passion for beer is no longer a passion as your ice cream has now become my passion
Wow! Even looking at this one makes me feel guilty! LOL
Is that white chocolate on top of the cone?Looks tasty.I’ll have to try that combination soon!
Good Morning turkey hills fan
I love the picture, but I love it better with the cone and Turkey hills ice cream. and nothing else on top.
Now, that looks gooood!
YUMMMMM…Looks like ice cream for breakfast now for me!
The first thing I do in the morning is come on the computer to read the TH journal. When I saw the cone of ice cream I had to laugh, because last night I had a sugar cone with TH strawberry ice cream and choc. magic shell on top of that with a dollop of real whipped cream. My cone looked almost like the picture. I love TH ice cream and reading the journal. Linda
Oh my, that looks very delicious…….hmmm may have to have some ice cream on my pancakes now.
Yummy!!!!
Wow! What a picture! I just want to know how the camera man or the person holding the ice cream held off from eating it for so long! I need ice cream now! Bye
Now that cone looks mouth watering with the fresh strawberry in the ice cream and the hot fudge and nuts on top. Also nothing beats it being in a sugar cone.
Not have ice cream in MY freezer. That would be unheard of.
Looks delicious.
Since it’s Saturday my kids want to see the photo and now want ice cream for breakfast.
WOW! That looks almost too good to eat. Almost…
Looks great! Let’s eat!!!
NOW THAT’S AN ICE CREAM CONE TO MAKE MY DAY!
Your pictures of ice cream are so realistic I want to reach out and grab it. If I could take the contents of this cone and put it in a dish I wouldn’t worry about losing anything from dripping.
I am drooling, and running to the kitchen to get some TH ice cream!
Great picture and kudos to the photographer! What an eye for delicious looking ice cream!
Hmmmmmmmmm, got to be TURKEY HILL ICE CREAM underneath all those toppings!
Wow!! I have to have that right now. I dont even know where to get it and it looks challenging to make, but mmmm.I want it.
That looks like it would be very difficult to eat without getting it all over the place. Oh well, you can always lick up the drippings.
OMG – You were right about the drooling!
Your right, am not at home and the ice cream looks fantastic. Guess i’ll have to wait till later.
That does look yummy!

Where can I get a ice cream like that right now?
Now that’s just about a perfect ice cream cone, it just needs two more scoops. I just bought Banana Split, and I can’t wait to dig into it.
Congratulations to the winners. Didn’t see my name, boo hoo. I want to be with the photographer who takes all these ice cream photos so I can eat all the ones he messes up. How many photos did he take to come up with this pic?
Simple pleasures are the best! Like ice cream! That cone looks simply delicious beyond words. Yum! Congratulations to the winners! Have an awesome weekend everyone.
That’s a great picture! Kudos to the photographer who took that one.

Ah I feel the need to lick it soon the drips you know
Wow,sorry it took me awhile to responde,i had to go get some ice cream.
hmmm…never thought to put chocolate like that on top of a cone!!

Every day is Ice Cream day for me!!!!! I ALWAYS have some Turkey Hill in my freezer. I just love it.
Thats why my freezer is -0, and I eat ice cream from a bowl.
Luckily, I did have ice cream in my freezer for this one because the warning came too late for me to head it. The photo was already seen and before I finished reading the entire article I had already scooped myself a bowl.
I was wondering though, if there is any way that we can help this ice cream blog win the web award. Is there an online voting page or can we send an email or letter somewhere to express out interest and devotion to the journal? I would love to help this blog to win an award!
Wow that cone looks GREAT!!!!!!!!! Reminds me of an icecream sundae on a cone instead of in a bowl. Perhaps it should be named tin roof sundae on a cone. I just bought more Turkey Hill today at the store this time Party cake which calls for a party anytime Yum!!!!!
Fortunately I just finished a big cone of ice cream or I would have had to get some after looking at that photo!!
I need more ice cream
Looks yummy!
The photo of that ice cream cone with one good thing layered upon another is proof that there is no such thing as too much of a good thing when it comes to Turkey Hill!
That is too yummy-looking! The picture of the chocolate drip makes me want to jump in there and catch it! Now I want ice cream – right now!….
just got home from work and i WANT that ice cream cone!!!
Makes my mouth water!!! Perfect for National Ice Cream Day!
What a great picture! I love that chocolate shell that gets hard on the ice cream but this one looks just as yummy.
This looks so good I need to make some fudge sauce to go on the nightly dish of ice cream, yup every night!
Sigh….ohhhhkay….there goes my good intentions to loose weight! I shoulda known better than to look. Freezer, here I come.
That looks like the Perfect treat on a hot July Day.
Even at this time in the morning this looks very very tempting. Growing up we were allowed to have anything we wanted for breakfast on our birthday. Too bad it’s not my birthday nor am I a kid anymore.
My daughter wanted blue ice cream for her birthday. We thought and thought and finally came up with Turkey Hill Vanilla covered with blue sprinkles and blue M&Ms. It was a big hit.

With 5 kids and a husband who all love ice cream, it is sometimes hard to buy a dessert for the family, especially in these times. Turkey Hill gives us the most bang for our buck with their many different flavors and reasonable price alternative to some of the other brands and take out. Thanks Turkey Hill-You keep making ice cream and we’ll keep licking it up

I started a diet on April first of this year. ( I weighed 283 pounds … I’m also 6’5″) I now weigh 249. When I reach 245 I’m going to enjoy a bowl of ice cream.
It will be at least five months without ice cream….what flavor (s) should I try?
I would give anything if I could buy Turkey Hill ice cream in Qatar where I teach. Giant Food is in Qatar–couldn’t they stock Turkey Hill ice cream?!?
they should sell the ice cream cone at turkey hill markets hand dip ice cream and the choc boy that looks good.
Turkey Hill ice cream…the best you can get.
That picture of the ice cream cone should be x rated. It looks sinful but I would be in the first one in line to commit that sin!!!

Your ice cream is the BEST ever!!! I honestly think it is better than Carvel’s which I grew up with, so whatever you are doing, keep it up! Yummy!
I love each part of that cone topping, but I especially love the chocolate drop suspended in mid air! Watch a catch!
That ice cream cone looks like an oil painting, almost too perfect for words.
I could be persuaded to take the first bite out of that perfection.
Who would have thought there was only one month listed as “Ice Cream Month” – I thought every month was “Ice Cream Month”. Many, many years ago when I was young, my Mass. grandmother, when asked if she would like some ice cream would take the whole box (I don’t remember if it was a 1/2 gallon or what) and a spoon and start eating. I must have inherited that love of ice cream from her.
My 4 1/2 yr old son and I are addicted to your Party Cake flavor. OMG! When I first tried it, I was in such a glory I though I was gonna cry. Thank you. This is by far the best flavor I’ve ever tasted by you folks!!!
Thank you for the best ice cream ever.
Valerie
hello i love to eat chocalate ice cream an i would love to win
Mmmm, I love turkey hill ice cream with chocolate fudge!
My two favorite grocery stores (Ukrops and Kroger) in Richmond VA sell Turkey Hill Ice Cream, but I cannot find Turkey Hill Ice Cream Cake. Why?
Could you please make more yogurt! I cannot eat regular ice cream because of all the sugar. Maybe you could make peach yogurt, wouldn’t that be great!!
Thank’s for listening.
I love all the flavors but MISS the Eagle one. that’s my all time favorite!!
Wow…I now know all about the ice cream song! It was fun to hear the entire song!
When I go to Stop and Shop I gravitate to the Ice Cream Section that has Turkey Hill because they have the flavor that is not necessarily new but when I taste it and eat it , it always is new to me. The flavor I am referring to is the best combination for me.Vanilla and Chocalate in one container. Please do not ever give it up. Your other flavors are interesting but being an 85 year young individual I devour what I love and that is Turkey Hill Vanilla and Chocalate together like lovers.
I don’t care if it’s melting. I’d still eat it.
That cone is a picture good enough to eat! And I’m out of ice cream!!!
When will your Ice Cream be sold in Indiana & What Stores?
I like turkey hill ice cream and I eat it every night. The ice cream is good tasting and I feel more energetic with such good natural ice cream.

With all the flavors I wouldn’t know which to try but I’d sure have alot of fun trying!!!

Okay, I’d have that ice cream cone eaten before it even thought about starting to drip like that! I’ve been known to eat ice cream pretty fast…faster than anyone else in my family!
I agree with Bertha Sanders….Vanilla and chocolate flavored ice cream is an oldie, but goodie! Smooth, creamy, and simple. It’s a classic!
Delicious. No day is complete without Turkey Hill ice cream.
Wish we could buy stock in this stuff! Just love it!
We love Turkey Hill Duetto. My husband is lactose intollerant, but for some reason he is able to eat any of the Duetto flavors without a problem. His favorite flavor is cherry and my favorite is raspberry. It is not always easy to find Duetto in every store, but when we do, we’re sure to stock up!
Best I’ve had
Turkey Hill is the only ice cream I buy.My family loves Turkey Hill also.
turkey hill is the best, most eaten icecream in our home
I only buy Turkey Hill its the best.
My family and I love to gobble gobble gobble some of that Turkey Hill ice cream just about every night after dinner.
Double dunker is awesome!
I love, LOVE, L O V E Turkey Hill Ice Cream.
It provides dairy, nutrition, ranks well on Glycemic Index, and tastes so good in so many flavors — it’s my favorite food treat!
I usually do not write on website blogs but the Turkey Hill Duetto Ice Cream is amazing. My son always has that listed on his “treat list” for after dinner.
Thanks for making such a wonderful product.

I love Turkey Hill Ice Cream especially Grand Slam & Chocolate Mint Chip. When my daughter was younger she also loved Mint Chocolate Chip & could not believe how many chips were in the ice cream. She wrote to Turkey Hill and they were kind enough to send her a letter and a coupon for ice cream. She always remember that.
Marlene
On his way home my husband called to see if we needed anything from the store I told him yes ice cream and to make sure it’s Turkey Hill he said he knew that .
Turkey Hill is a real favorite around this house. I just want to take a big bite of the cone in the piture. Actually there are many TH favorites, and we often buy three or four flavors just to satisfy evry ones favooorites.
We have TH in our freezer all year long.
Ted
I enjoy the creamyness of turkey hill ice cream – any flavor! Suggest taking jello (berry flavors are best) make as directed and mix in 1/2 gallon of vanilla ice cream. Will layer itself out and makes a great treat.
I recently bought my friend Turkey Hill’s “Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup” icecream. Trying to get her to try this excellent premium icecream and fall in love with this flavor like I already have for years. Wish that Turkey Hill had a few more more No Sugar Added flavors though.
So was wondering how long after the picture was taken did the cone disappear and who got to eat it???
Turkey Hill is the absolute best ice cream there is> I love you creating sugar free fat free ice cream. You really can’t tell it’s fat free yummmmmmmy
The new Banana Split yogurt is awesome – and no cholestral. Try it out…
The chocolate chip cookie dough ROCKS!! It’s definitely worth falling off the “diet wagon”–and it’s not even noon yet!
after looking at all the diff. flavors i realized that we only got one of them (lemon pie) why dont we get all the flavors. and the one thing i noticed is that you dont do pistachio ice cream. we havent even seen the peach yet. am in new hampshire on the border town to massachusetts and i buy ice cream every week…. getting sick of the same flavors over and over again.
