Third time’s a charm. That’s what they say at least. If you’ve given it your best shot in the previous two trivia Monday blog entries but came up short, I have a feeling this is your week. (HINT: The blog itself can be a resource too!).
Below are five ice cream-related trivia questions. You can use the internet to find the answers, but not all of these questions will be easy! Once you’ve got the answers (or think you do), email your answers via the Ask Ernie link in the right hand sidebar or send them to icecreamjournal@gmail.com. We’ll choose one person with the correct answers at random to receive this week’s trivia prize.
1. Ice cream isn’t generally known for its iron content, but which Turkey Hill frozen dessert leads the way by packing 4 percent of your daily allowance for iron in every serving? (There’s also a flavor with 6 percent iron. We’ll accept either flavor as the correct answer.)
2. How much is the Golden Opulence Sundae at New York’s Serendipity 3 restaurant?
3. In which two months is ice cream consumption the highest in the U.S.?
4. What percentage of ice cream novelties are consumed by adults?
5. How old was Ernie when he got his big break in the dairy industry?
TODAY’S PRIZE: Settle in with a bowl of your favorite flavor and a little reading material, because this week’s trivia prize is a library of ice cream books! Five books to be exact. One winner will receive Everybody Loves Ice Cream (a colorful look at ice cream history), Ice Cream Mix-Ins (a cookbook about great things to add to ice cream), Ice Cream Treats (how to transform ice cream into tasty treats), Ice Cream U (the story behind Penn State’s famous creamery), and Ice Cream: The Delicious History (a historical account of ice cream through the ages). Good luck!

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
If you say this week is easier I’ll try it again. I had to give up the past two weeks.
I’ll try again (yes, I’m comment for free ice cream). The last two trivia Mondays were Not easy. I tried, but came up short Both times. I’ll try again, though.
Wow, those books sound great! Especially the one about the Penn State Creamery – I think that would be very interesting to read! I may have to try to complete the trivia quiz this week!
These questions look interesting – I will give them a shot later today!
Hopefully I will have time later to try to answer all of the questions.
Isn’t every month a high ice cream consumption…it is at my house.
Maybe I will try the trivia this week. I would love to get those books to donate to my local library.
The books look almost as good as the ice cream!
I sent my answers in! That was fun.
Thanks for all the fun stuff every week Turkey Hill!
Who needs ice cream books in print when new up to date ice cream information is readily available for our fingertips to find at this wonderful website? I love that I can log onto this page (which is saved in my favorites by the way) and be entertained for hours browsing the articles and reading others comments. And then to top that off there are links to the right that I have begun exploring but am no where near finishing yet. This blog has opened my mind up to a world of ice cream that I ahve never known about and I have the opportunity to share my love with others who share the same passion as me
This article is going to keep me busy for the rest of the night and into the early hours of the morning! Forget online organic chemistry lesson readings!
3 and 5 are toughies
Thanks for the fun trivia, I would love to win a prize this week.
neat prize
I will work on this contest.
The Golden Opulence Sundae?! Now there’s a recipe I’ll have to check out!
Love the trivia…answers are easy to find if you know where to look….
I never realized that iron is in a few of the T.H. desserts (there are two that have 6%!)…
Good luck to all and HAVE FUN!!!!
It’s going to take some time to get these answers.
This is easier?
I will have to try the Golden Opulence Sundae!
Educational “ice cream” bokks – Sweet!
Love the trivia and would love to win those ice cream books. Will sure give it a try!
Thanks again. We;ll give it a try.
Love the trivia. Good luck to everyone!
I’m a librarian and what better to add to my collection than ice cream books!
Alright,who makes up these questions?
All of the books sound great, hopefully I answer the trivia questions correctly.
Good luck everyone! We’re thinking about getting these books to browse in the break room here at the Dairy too.
As for Debbie’s question about who comes up with these questions, it’s sort of a collaborative effort between a lot of people…and it’s a lot of fun!
Gianna – You are absolutely right. There is at least one Turkey Hill ice cream flavor with 6 percent iron. We overlooked that one when we wrote the question. We’ll accept the 4 percent flavor(s) and the 6 percent flavor(s) as the correct answer!
I have a collection of cook books, but none on ice cream, so I hope I win them. As for the book called Ice Cream U, I am sure that Penn State started their ice creamery based on TH ice cream!
Might try answering the trivia questions, I’m not good at it!
How old was Ernie when he got his big break in the dairy industry? Now you have to define his big break. Is it when he started with TH? or when he started this blog? or somewhere in the middle? I will go with the blog which made him famous among us TH devourers, so he was his present age minus about 2.
I am having trouble with these.
I’ll have to admit I am getting quite an education by answering your trivia questions each week. Congratulations to those who come up with these questions. They should be rewarded with extra scoops of Turkey Hill during their break.
I guess these trivia questions are a little bit easier if you know where to look. I think this is fun and it’s good brain exercise.
Good head-scratchers, once again. Kudos to the one who came up with these.
Very interesting trivia questions
It’s nice to win any prize…but I really enjoy “playing” the trivia game whether I win or not.
More fun questions about my favorite food!
Looking for a recipe the Amish make called Ice Cream Pudding anyone have a recipe? It has a ritz cracker/butter crust.
Cool info— I have actually been to Serendipity in NYC and have seen the Golden Opulence Sundae– amazing!
Ernie’s big break in the dairy industry is when he first started working in the dairy industry.
Well here it is again – Monday’s Ice Cream Journal received on Tuesday. Guess I’ll never have a chance to win anything. I just don’t understand why these are always one day late. At least I feel like a winner when I’m gobbling down a big bowl of TH.
I saw the golden opulence on the Food Network. and yes it is out of my reach even if I win the lottery.
I love your ice cream!
It is Tuesday, not Monday.Neat trivia, anyways.Keep making great ice cream!
It’s going to take some time to get these answers
The books sound like a totally terrific prize. I would rather eat ice cream then do trivia, so good luck to those of you who are participating.
I’ll wait for the answers to come out!
The books sound wonderful. Especially -Ice Cream Mix-Ins (a cookbook about great things to add to ice cream), Ice Cream Treats (how to transform ice cream into tasty treats). I may have to try and find the time to do some research.
Too hard, but I look forward to the posted answers!
I’ll pass on the trivia. I’d rather eat the ice cream than read about it! I would love to win some Turkey Hill ice cream!
kool bowls ,so is the ice cream in it
Its nice to know that someone might actually read my dribble. I think Ernie is a great representative for an equally deserving corporation.
yummy
Those 5 books would make an interesting reading experience. Especially if you are eating ice cream at the time.
These are hard questions ~ but I tried anyway. Love a good trivia contest!
The trivia questions are very interesting and in searching for the answers leads a person down some very interesting paths filled with many other trivia answers to questions yet unasked!
OK ERNIE-YOU’RE ON!!! I’ve tried before & I’m not a quitter!!! I’m logging on the TH website to find the answers & will catch BO, too!!!
Interesting trivia and the books look good but instead will have some Turkey Hill icecream for dessert
