First of all, we’d like to thank all of our new readers who stopped by the Ice Cream Journal during National Ice Cream Month (which ends this weekend, unfortunately). Our ice cream community grew a lot this month and we hope to see more of everyone in the future through your comments and input! And now, on with the recipe…
There were so many fantastic recipes submitted during last year’s holiday recipe contest that we just had to feature a few of them here on the Ice Cream Journal many months later. But instead of using Egg Nog or Peppermint Stick ice cream (as the holiday recipe contest rules dictated), we’re using different flavors in these reincarnations.
This one was sent to us by Naomi L. and was called “Mint Lovers Dream Pie” (with Peppermint Stick ice cream). We’re substituting Choco Mint Chip ice cream and calling it…(are you ready?)…”Mint Lovers Dream Pie.” It’s hard work being this creative.
By the way, the photo below is not a photo of the product of this recipe, but it’s close and it looks good, so we went with it anyhow. Enjoy!
MINT LOVERS DREAM PIE
INGREDIENTS
1 chocolate cookie ready made pie crust
1 tub Turkey Hill Choco Mint Chip ice cream
1 jar dark chocolate with mint ice cream topping (just chocolate topping will do too)
1 1/4 cups dark chocolate chips
1 8-ounce tub of whipped cream
DIRECTIONS
Soften ice cream so it will spread. Place half ice cream into pie crust. Stir 1 cup chocolate chips into other half of ice cream. Spread chocolate/mint syrup topping over ice cream and place in freezer until solid (30 minutes to 1 hour). Spread other half of ice cream/choco chip mixture into half filled crust. Spread whipped cream over that and sprinkle with 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips. Freeze pie for several hours until frozen solid. Enjoy!!

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
here it is the end of a great month of fun but I have to say I am not a fan of
Choco Mint Chip ice cream. this recipe sounds interesting but this flavor has never been a good one for me. may the Choco Mint Chip ice cream lovers enjoy it.
I can’t believe Ice Cream Month is over already! It went by so fast!!
Great recipe! I’d like to try it the next time I buy mint chocolate chip ice cream.
i’m not a mint lover…
Once you taste Turkey Hill light ice cream :
1 you will no longer want to eat any other brand
2 you will not be able to decide which flavor is the most delicious
3 you will find that the chocolate chunks are the biggest you have ever had in ice cream

That recipe sounds wonderful! Thanks to Turkey Hill for a fun Ice Cream Month.
I am not a big fan of mint but I bet it would be great with a different flavor of ice cream!
Thanks for a fun, ice-cream filled month.
let’s do this again soon!!!!!
oooooo that sounds SO good. I love mint stuff. What a great way to end Ice Cream Month!!
Sounds great – I’m printing out the recipe! It does seem like it would work with any ice cream flavor, so maybe I could try it with Double Dunker…
Sounds very refreshing! Easy, and you could use any flavor of icecream. When I have friends over from other regions, I always introduce them to Turkey Hill icecream.
Sounds absolutely divine!
I can’t believe it’s the end of July. See you next year for ice cream Month.
I basically enjoy all Turkay Hill ice cream flavors but this recipe “takes the cake”.
i’ve made a recipe similar to this only you make your own crust w/ keebler grasshopper cookies and use vanilla ice cream flavored w/ mint extract…this one looks even better!
mmmm, but if you can’t wait that long to eat T.H.(waiting for pie to freeze), well this is what i’ve been doing all summer long:
take 2 voortman’s shortbread cookies (or any brand of cookies you prefer) spread your fav T.H. flavor on one cookie and top off with the other….instant ice cream sandwhich with YOUR fav flavor(s)!
I have always been a huge fan of Choco Mint Chip ice cream! Combine that with dark chocolate (another of my favorites) and this recipe sounds like it was made especially for me!!! I will be adding it to my recipe files and trying it before summer ends!! What a great way to end Ice Cream Month!
Wow, it is hard to believe we hit July 31st already! Thanks for all the neat trivia, i enjoyed hearing from the Turkey Hill gang with their comments as well. Somehow gets us closer to those of you who make this yummy ice cream!
Thanks!
Looks yummy!
ooo that sounds good… will have to make that.
Holy Moly! That pie looks yummy!
Definitely a keeper! Will have to make this for our next party.
Funny I have all these ingredients at home lol gotta whip this up!

Spending the weekend with family and this receipe sounds like it will be a hit. Thanks Turkey Hill!!!!
Sounds delicious!
We lost our electricity this week for about 4 hours due to a thunderstorm. What a great excuse to enjoy some Coffee flavored Turkey Hill Ice Cream, we wouldn’t have wanted it to all just melt away!
This looks so good, I can’t wait to make it. Thanks for sharing.
I’m not a fan of mint ice cream, but I bet I can replace it with another flavor that I love. Thanks for the receipe!!
Ice cream month should be all year long!!!
So I tried to make mint chocolate chip ice cream by scratch because I did not have any that I wanted to use to make this pie and had no car to go to the store with, so I used a recipe I found online that used
* 3 cups of fresh mint leaves (not stems), rinsed, drained, packed
* 1 cup milk
* 2 cups heavy cream (divided, 1 cup and 1 cup)
* 2/3 cup sugar
* A pinch of salt
* 6 egg yolks
* 6 ounces semisweet chocolate or dark chocolate, chopped fine, keep in the freezer until used
It was soooooooo hard. I had to put the mint leaves in teh saucepan with milk and cream and steam them, let it sit for 30 minutes while I poured the remaining 1 cup of cream over a strainer into a bowl surrounded by ice. Then I strained the milk/cream mixture into the bowl which seived out the mi;nt leaves and i added sugar and salt them steamed the whole mixture. THEN i had ot whip the egg yolks and pour the heated milk/cream into the egg yolks which whisking, then put it all back on the stove over medium heat for 10 minutes. THEN i had to pour the custard through the strainer and stir into the cold cream cooking, then chill in the fridge for hous and then freeze. It took over 5 hours and tasted horrible. No where near comparison to turkey hill. so i should have just walked ot the grocery store and back!
Did anyone know that according to the International Dairy Foods Association, mint chocolate chip is the 10th most popular flavor of ice cream, and comprised 3% of all ice cream sold in 2000?
Also is mint ice cream flavored with spearmint or wintergreen mint?
That pie is making me so hungry
Ice Cream recipes are Delicious — especially on a hot day today. I better go cool off with a big bowl of Ice Cream right now.
That pie sounds delicious, can’t wait to try it!
I LOVE Mint Choco Chip but my husband doesn’t (he says Mint ice cream tastes like toothpaste!!) LOL. But that pie sure looks good to me. Yum!
Yummy! Something about cool mint and cold ice cream is divine…
Not a fan of mint chocolate chip, but I can always substitute another flavor.
I love mint in the summer time, especially next to a glass of sweet tea.
Thank you for a wonderful month of blogging! It was so interesting to read everyone’s comments and ideas!!
I’ll have not a piece but a wedge of pie to go.
NO MINT FOR ME HOW ABOUT MAKING IN WITH CHOCOLATE MARSHMALLOW
I’m having my mom make this for the weekend.
I WOULD LOVE SOME OF THAT PIE PLEASE?!!!
third
I WOULD LOVE SOME OF THAT PIE PLEASE!!! ?
I’ve had so much fun this past month reading the journal and all the interesting articles.
I can’t beleive July is over already
Good Morning to all turkey hills fans
I made a pie simmilar to this one, but I used a white crust and I and 1/2 teaspoon mint extract to the ice cream to give it a real mint ice cream taste. I love all turkey hill ice cream.
Definitely going to try to make that.
What great luck! We bought choco mint chip and whipped cream yesterday! We have a pie crust and chocolate chips! Just need the chocolate syrup, and it’s my 10-year-old’s day to cook something! This recipe sounds great and she’ll love to try it!
Thank – You for so much fun during the month can’t wait till the next one!
National Ice Cream month is over !!!!!!!!! everyday is ice cream day !!!!!
This sounds sooo good! My youngest sons favorite flavor of ice cream too! We’ll have to try it!
Sounds good! I’ve done it with the choc cookie crust, the mint chip inside, with a hot fudge “frosting” covering the entire tip of the pie…it’s delic!
Sounds good…hope I can resist sampling the ice cream so I can use it in the pie!!
I must tell you this recipe is a keeper. Making it today for my brother. His Birthday (82nd) was yesterday and he wanted a TH ice cream cake, which I got him, it was delicious. Now I will make him this pie. He sure loves his TH ice cream. Not a day goes by that we don’t have ice cream, sometimes 2 times a day. Linda
Sounds like an awesome dessert! I’ll have to make it tomorrow…yum!
Can’t wait till my son comes home from Kansas. If I make this cake now I’ll have to eat it all myself!
That’s a pass in our house since we do not like mint, but we all have different tastes. Hubby agrees about tastes since in his army days some buddies (not many) liked “Chip beef on toast” while others (including himself) would avoid it at all costs. Give us a recipe with chunks of dark chocolate and plenty of fresh whipped cream.
I can’t wait to try this recipe
I thought it was just a dream…sounds yummy.
OMG! That’s a dream for sure! Looks amazing!
I copied this. Cannot wait to try it! And Laddie isn’t getting any. You know dogs are not suppose to have chocolate!!
What a wonderful refreshing pie. Can’t wait to make another one.
It seems like you have to work fast before the ice cream gets too soft. But the end product sounds like it is worth it. Ice cream, especially Turkey Hill, in any form always comes out delicious.
I love chocolate and mint together in any form. Just crush up anything with these ingredients together and mix them into Turkey Hill, and you have a definite winner every single time. Just look in your cupboard for mints, mint cookies, chocolate cookies, etc. and get creative.
With Turkey Hill it’s always yummy all of the time.
Sounds delicious. Can’t wait to try it.
We are not a big fan of mint but I bet if made it coffee or mocha ice cream instead of mint I think it would very good
This Sounds good and refreshing but not being a big fan of dark chocolate I would substitute the dark chocolate topping and chips with milk chocolate. Once again I didn’t win any icecream and just wish since I am true to this brand I could be a winner sometime!!!
This not only sounds delicious; it sounds perfectly refreshing for a hot summer day.
i am aleays saying how good your mint chocolate chip is, well i can imagine how good this would be. we’re gonna try this, can’t wait.
Sounds delightful to me!!
I would love someone to make this for me, my ice cream recipes never come out too well. I work to slow and the ice cream melts.
I love chocolate chip mint, but hate when it’s colored with green food coloring. My favorite CCM ice cream is made by another ice cream maker and it’s white and it can’t be beat, are you up to the challenge, Turkey Hill? BTW, my fave TH flavors are Moose Tracks and Duetto in chocolate ice and vanilla ice cream, thee best!
Sounds delicious!
YUM. just had MCC in cones last night. I wish I had made this pie instead.
I am a mint lover and have TH mint chocolate in my freezer all the time. Don’t mind the color green, that makes it look and taste minty. Haven’t tried the pie yet, maybe tomorrow
Sounds Yummy!
Usually keep my mint intake to a minimum, however I think I could get to like this recipe.
It just shows to go you…There is something for everyone.
Yet another delicious looking and sounding pie. I’ve got to right this recipe down so I can try it. Thanks TH for a great Ice Cream Month of contests, recipes and fun.
I’m going to write (not right) the recipe down. Fingers move faster than the brain sometimes.
Anything with mint choc chip ice cream I’ll take – my favorite!
im going to try and make some now
TURKEY HIL ICE CREAM IS BEST IN ANY FORM ; JUST THE WORLD BEST FLAVOR”S
My daughter cried out in delight today when she spotted the TH Duetto Cow going south on 81 near Carlisle PA.
That recipe sounds so refreshing. I am going to make this dessert for dinner tomorrow evening and I will post the comments from my family.
Sounds good on a hot and humid day!
Jimmy Choo Sandals
Yesturday I made the pie. It was delisious! I think this was one of the beast cakes ever!:-)
Please invite me to your house if you are making this. It looks wonderful–but it’s pretty hot here and I think instead of having to make something, I’ll just have a bowl of Turkey Hill ice cream.
I’m not a fan of mint in anything except for toothpaste and candycanes, but I think this might be yummy with a substitute….
Looks cool and refreshing!
Same great taste but waist friendly:
1 chocolate cookie ready made pie crust
1 tub Turkey Hill Choco Mint Chip ice cream (SLOW CHURNED)
1 jar dark chocolate with mint ice cream topping (just chocolate topping will do too)(SUGAR FREE)
1 1/4 cups dark chocolate chips
1 8-oz tub of whipped cream (FAT FREE)
Mint Lovers Dream Pie, sounds and looks Delicious.
Coooool and refreshing to look at, wish I could reach in and take some from the picture. But it just makes you feel good to see the Mint IC pie.
Looks really great!
Tomorrow (8/4) is national chocolate chip day. What a perfect treat to make for the celebration!
I’m not a mint ice cream fan but that looks like it would make a great dessert for company.
Turkey Hill Choco Mint Chip is my absolute favorite! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!
My son & I love mint ice cream, I can’t wait to surprise him with this desert! Thanks for sharing it with us.
Yum!!! …and versital: Mint Lovers Dream Pie to *Lovers Dream Pie!
