Well, the dust has settled from our wild National Ice Cream Month celebration and we’ve finally been able to catch our breath. A few of you have asked about the answers and winners for the last two Trivia Monday entries. The winner from our July 20 contest is Debbie V. from Quakertown, PA (answers here).
Below are our July 27 answers. The winner was Hope C. Thanks to everyone who played. It seems like we all had a lot of fun with these trivia contests (and learned a lot in the process), so we’ll definitely be bringing them back in the future!
1. In our online family scrapbook, little Jeremy is reach for Cookies n’ Cream ice cream.
2. If you ordered Cackalacky Ice Cream, you’d be at the Udder Delight ice cream shop in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. (Has anyone ever been there?)
3. There are 26 stores within 30 miles of Newport, PA that carry Turkey HIll ice cream.
4. Dutching is a special process used by ice cream or chocolate manufacturers to remove the bitter, acidic taste found in natural cocoa. It’s also a betting system used in sports, which we also accepted as the correct answer.
5. Madagascar and Indonesia produce 90 percent of the world’s vanilla beans.
As for yesterday’s “spot the fake news story” contest, we’re still accepting guesses, so let us know with a comment on yesterday’s entry. Free ice cream to one person who guesses correctly. And now, a beautiful photo of ice cream on a waffle!

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
Mmmm, that ice cream on a waffle looks so yummy. Who won the free ice cream each day for leaving comments for the past couple of weeks?

Yikes — that waffle looks naked with that little bit of ice cream — it needs at least a couple more scoops! And some whipped cream! =)
We’re still contacting some of the daily winners and waiting for responses. We’ll let you know the names of all our daily winners soon!
I opt for maple syrup but that works too
bring back the Alessi ice cream bowl as a prize! It would be perfection with a few scoops of T.H. ice cream….and to comment on the waffle with ice cream…THAT’S how you have ice cream for breakfast!
do the runner ups for the contest get a serving of this waffles and ice cream dessert?
Wow! If I served THAT for breakfast I’d have no trouble getting my boys out of bed in the morning!!
yummy!

Congrats to all the winners, I would love to win a prize! This waffle sundae dessert looks so good!
I want that ice cream waffle.
That waffle reminded me of one of our best family vacations ever. My daughter discovered that Kreider Farms Restaurant in Hershey, PA had ice cream on their breakfast menu. Her dream had come true! Being a librarian by trade, the trivia contest was right up my alley. I always learn when I do any type of research–but ice cream research was more fun.
I agree with Deb…needs more ice cream!!!!
Now THAT’S what I want for breakfast!
I need to go to Delaware to try that flavor.
Good Morning to all,
I will say that some of the questions on the quiz had more then one answere. if it’s had more then one answers to one questions..how do you pick the winnner. I don’t understand how you pick your answeres. I feel that this “Trivia was ok, but not fair to everyone who play it”. Next please just go with one answer. I still love turkey hill ice cream, I won’t play this game anymore.
I would love to try the flavor in Delaware! barbara
Looks good…I have recipe for a great homemade hot fudge sauce!!
CONGRATULATIONS HOPE!!!
Gives whole new meaning to what the “Breakfast of Champions” could be!
I wasn’t hungry til I checked my email and there was the above picture .. now I am ….
Wow, I want ice cream on a waffle…I believe I can actually see the syrup dripping off the ice cream onto the waffle !!
Is there a method to the e-mailing? Your first response was 8/4 10:42AM. The e-mail to us was sent or received 8/5 at 2:54AM by my inbox time.
Good question, Caroline. The emails announcing new blog entries are sent out the morning AFTER a new entry is posted. I’ll see if we can change that though.
Sorry you feel that way, Brenda. We tried to be as fair as possible when reviewing all the submissions for the trivia contest. If a question had more than one answer, we gave people credit for that. As for how we chose a winner, it was completely random. From all the people with perfect scores, we just chose a name at random and that’s who got the prize!
I hope you decide to reconsider your decision not to play in the future. These games can be a lot of fun!
I love your ice cream!
That looks like a frozen waffle. I would think it would be better being on a Belgium waffle that is light and fluffy.
I enjoyed the trivia contests. They were educational, challenging, and revealing. It proves that there is more information out there about ice cream than people realize.
I have been to Rehoboth Beach but have not tried Cackalacky ice cream – I will have to try it the next time I visit.
Hey Turkey Hill is on sale this week at Kroger for $2.50!!!! Gonna go get me some
The very first ice cream vendor I ever saw was a very old couple who sold waffles with a large slice of ice cream[sandwich style]. It was all prepared fresh and powered suger was sprinkeled on top. I will make these for my great grand children as I did for their parents. Life is good.
Thanks Ice Cream Journal for all the fun during National Ice Cream Month. I learned a lot from the trivia contest. I have some yummy recipes to try. This was my first celebration and I had fun. For those questioning the fairness of the trivia winner selection, hey it’s a random selection. Can you imagine how many people had all the right answers? Besides it’s just a game to broaden everyone’s ice cream knowledge.
Congrats to all the winners. Ice cream month was a fun celebration. Thanks Turkey Hill.
I dont normally like waffles but id be willing to give that one a go.
Ice Cream, the answer to the question, “What’s for Breakfast?”.
This looks yummy and I’m ready to dig in although I’m used to eating an ice cream block sandwiched between two hot waffles. This was always my favorite treat at the fair when I was a young girl.
All I can say is “YUMMY!” Waffles & ice cream – it’s what’s for breakfast!(and lunch…and dinner!!!
Hmmmmm! I can smell the warm waffle and I am ready to dig in. It looks so yummy! Thanks for that pleasant inviting visual.
No thanks to the waffle, but I’ll take the ice cream!
Yay, “Debbie”!!!
Oh that waffle sundae looks so good! It reminds me of my Grandmother, I used to have waffle sundaes at her house all the time.
My grandchildren would love the waffle with ice cream and some chocolate syrup and whip cream and of course a cherry on top–heck their grandfather and I will have one too!!
…oh, my god, vanilla & root beer -
yum-o!! haven’t found that at my local
market yet. but heading out now
