WILD AND WACKY ICE CREAM NEWS: THE WEIRD FLAVORS EDITION

It’s time for some more strange ice cream news. This time, we’re diving into recent news about weird ice cream flavors. As always, three of these stories are 100 percent true and one has been made up by the storytellers here at Turkey Hill. Leave a comment with your guess about which is the bogus news bite.

1. TASTE IS OVERRATED ANYHOW – In an effort to shine a spotlight on all the tasty goodies buried inside, a Sacramento, California ice cream shop owner has created an ice cream flavor that tastes like… absolutely nothing. The stark white treat is called “Blank Canvas” and uses a unique pasteurizing process to create a flavorless milk and cream base. Although it’s intended to be mixed with other treats, some customers order their scoops without the additions simply to experience the novelty of the anti-ice cream.

2. ICE CREAM TO GET YOU IN THE MOOD- We’ve always known that ice cream is a great pick-me-up summer treat, but an ice cream shop in London has taken that joy to a new level with the creation of Viagra ice cream (aka “vice cream”). The tantalizing treat sells for $16.99 per serving (you must by 18 or older to indulge) and is laced with natural stimulants like gingko, biloba, arginine, and guarana. Thankfully, customers are limited to one serving per day.

3. NO, YOU STILL CAN’T PLAY WITH YOUR FOOD – A Penn Laird, Virginia ice cream shop has developed a flavor sure to bring out the kid in all of us. The treat — called Play Doh Ice Cream — is dyed bright yellow with blue and pink cookie dough pieces scattered throughout. Customers claim the frosty dessert looks like the real thing (or the fake thing), but tastes a lot better than the Play Doh cones they made when they were kids.

4. THIS SOUNDS KIND OF CORNY – The Minnesota Corn Growers Association was anxious to drum up some attention at their tent at the state’s annual Farmfest and found the answer they were looking for when a communications assistant whipped up some corn-flavored ice cream. The corny concoction uses real corn to create a treat with just a hint of its namesake flavor. The corn ice cream was a hit at the August Farmfest, and the Corn Growers Association handed out recipes, just in case anyone wanted to recreate the a-maize-ing flavor at home.

  9. suzanne johantgen says:

i tjhink it’s number one,ive heard of the corn one,and the rest make sense in a silly way,but no taste? i dont think so.

  10. Brenda says:

    Hi Turkey Hills fans
I think all are so funny, so I can’t say which one is true.

I WOULD THINK IT IS #1

    There’s something for everybody.

  15. jilly says:

ithink its #1, why even bother if it has no taste …lol

It’s got to be #1 that is false — everything tastes like something!

  17. Ed Johnson says:

    # 2 is bogus…… The price is the give-a-way – in London – UK – the price would either be Euro’s or British Pounds -
    not U S $ ……

  18. Linda says:

Could be #2 is false,it would be worth alot more than $16.99 a serving if it were true! However, with or without the viagra, ice cream ALWAYS puts my hubby in a romantic mood!

  19. Fred K says:

I vote that story # 1 is not real.

  20. jeannine leonard says:

I think no 2 is. Don’t you need something from a doctor to take that?
As of no 1 they probably make it the same way reg ice cream is made, just do not put any flavoring is it. Just like fresh cream.

  21. lee carr says:

    just one thing to say:
is that sweet corn used in the making of corn-flavored ice cream?

  22. Betty says:

I’m going to have to guess number one!

  23. Frank says:

I vote #2 as the fake story, it’s gotta be.

  24. Jim in SOMD says:

I can’t see them having to check IDs to buy Ice Cream and how would they verify that someone only had one serving in a day. Therefore, I believe that #2 is a faux story.

  25. Mary Lou Huff says:

    I hope it’a number 2. Mary Lou

  26. caroline at Manalapan says:

I think the false one is number 2, if not and it is served at the beach it would be a riot. It looks like #4 got together with #1

  27. Yvonne Tucker says:

Number 2 sounds so unprobable(is there such a word????) that it probably is true,,,but I’ll try for it #2 for today..xxx

  28. Norma says:

They also sound plausible, but I am guessing that the Play Dough ice cream story is bogus.

Now let us all in on the secret.

  29. Lindsay says:

I think #1 is fake. Corn ice cream is awesome! Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream in Columbus, OH makes a Sweet Corn and Blackberry flavors that is great!

  30. Joanna says:

I would guess #2 is the fake story cause I don’t thing the government would let lace Ice Cream with and type of Meds.

  31. Alice says:

    3 is bogus!

  32. lucy and laddie says:

Me and Lad think its #2. But we do know a lot that would go for something like that.

  33. Ellen says:

#2 has to be the fake story. Can you imagine showing your ID to eat ice cream at a $16.99 price? Of course, there is that $1,000 concoction at the Serendipity in New York but that’s another story.

  34. Marcy says:

I would say #2…but could also be #1.

  35. Ken says:

    I love your ice cream!

  36. Bert says:

    #2 easy.

  37. FRANK CAOLO says:

IT HAS TO BE #2 I DOUBT VERY MUCH IT WOULD WORK,ALSO DOES IT COME WITH WARNING OF SIDE EFFECTS. FRANK SWOUERSVILLE PA. 18704-3016gara5

  38. DEE says:

I think its # 1 who ever heard of no flavor ice cream. but I can see people wanting gingko etc flavor for more umph.

  39. TeeCee says:

I remember an ice cream place in New Hope, PA, years ago -I think it was called Gerenser’s. They had the strangest flavors one could imagine. I once had African Violet flavored ice cream. It was actually quite delicious. Don’t know if Turkey Hill will ever get that far out.

  40. Sara B. says:

When I was in high school I worked at Sunny View Dairy Bar which was in Centre Square, PA. Around Halloween they always made licorice flavor which people waited all year for it. It was a great hit. As I remember it was pretty darn good. Served with orange sherbert, it made for a great orange and black treat.

  41. Evan Thomas says:

I wonder if the corn ice cream has high fructose corn syrup

  42. Maryann Striff says:

They all sound crazy, but I’ll say #2. It’s STUPID!!!

  43. IceCreamFiend says:

There’s a place in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware that sells chocolate covered bacon flavored ice cream!

  44. Ron says:

In can see where there might be a market for #2, but an ice cream with no flavor, why bother. Now an ice cream with loads of flavor and no weight gain would be something. Got to be #1.

  45. debbie F. says:

I’m not even venturing a quess…this one’s to close to call

  46. Linda Leffler says:

I think it is #2, but I would bet my nephew would go for it. Linda

  47. Awilda says:

    I would guess # 2

  48. BETTY says:

    #2 for sure

  49. Leona Plouffe says:

I am still waiting for you to come out with a chocolate ice cream with raspberry sauce swirled throughout. I have had some at a local place that makes its own ice cream, and it is soooo good that they often sell out of this flavor. Let me know if you decide to try this flavor. Thanks

  50. Janet Smith says:

    My guess is #2.

  51. Andilu says:

I have to go with number two! How can you take the flavor out of cream and milk?! Coldstone comes close with their “sinless sweet cream”…

  52. Andilu says:

I have to go with number one! How can you take the flavor out of cream and milk?! Coldstone comes close with their “sinless sweet cream”…

  53. Cheryl says:

I would say #2 because our local ice cream shop sells Play Dough ice cream.

  54. Pat says:

    I guess #2. :)

  55. Yvonne says:

I’ll have to go along with #2.

  56. Nancy says:

    I go with #2 also!

  57. gianna says:

cheryl says her local ice cream shop sells play dough ice cream….but does she live in penn laird virginia? if not then #3 is the bogus one …. OTHERWISE…. if you count cheryl’s local ice cream shop….THEN…..
Turkey Hill are you trying to fool us?
    THEY ARE ALL TRUE!!! :)

  58. E.Hummel says:

I would have to guess #1, those Europeans are likely to invent anything.

  59. Marion says:

I think #2 is the fake. No one is going to limit you to one serving a day especially if they’re making $16.99 a serving!

  60. Heather says:

I’m going with #1 on this one!

  61. Stephanie Hanz says:

I’m thinking #1 is the fake – really, who wants to not taste ice cream?

  62. Stefanie Schmidt says:

I think it is #3, eventhough they are all crazy stories.

  63. alicelynne says:

    I think #2 is bogus…least I hope so!!

  64. bill says:

i guess number 5 is the fake story.

  65. Craig Kurtz says:

#2 is bogus for sure, for sure and I always love the ones which are true because some are just absurd. TH : )

  66. Sarah says:

Well, I only had four stories to pick from. What happened to #5? At any rate, I’d guess #2 was the fake story.

  67. Peggy Gorman says:

#1 because why would I want to eat blank canvas and use all those calories for nothing!

  68. Margaret M says:

At this point I would guess #2 but since there is only 4 instead of 5, maybe I’ll change my mind when they add the next one. This is getting harder and more amazing each time!

  69. Phena says:

I’m gonna go with #2 being the fake. Must be a great place to meet guys if
    true.

  70. Phena says:

I think #2 is the phony but, if true
must be a great plce to meet guys.

  71. Levy says:

    Play doh sounds delicious

  72. Mike says:

As much as I’d like to believe it and it even sounds tasty – my vote for the fake story is # 3 – the Play Doh ice cream in Virginia. If it is there – I’ll certainly look it up the next time I visit.

  73. Loretta says:

My guess is #2. Who would pay such an amount for the ice cream?

  74. Jane Moslow says:

I vote for number 2. You need a prescription for Viagara.
There was a dairy in Western NY, in Fredonia that would have a crazy ice cream flavor on April Fools Day i.e spagetti, meatloaf, mashed potatoes etc. Sadly, the dairy closed a few years ago. Every April Fools Day, everyone waited to see what the flavor would be. All the TV stations covered the event and it often was on the National news. So corn is definetly possible.

  75. CMC says:

I’ll go with #2. I highly doubt that would be legal – even in U.K.

  76. Jeanne says:

I’m going with #1-#2 is possible-remember it is not in the USA. #3
the kids would love and #4 sounds
too corny not to be true.

  77. Joseph says:

    I’m guessing #2

  78. Tom Coyne says:

#1 You have to have flavor.

  79. Chris says:

#2–why make somethng only for men!!

  80. Debbie L says:

    #2?

  81. Lois says:

I say No. 1 is false. No matter what an ingredient might be, there has to be a taste and the more ingredients added, more taste of something.

  82. Mary says:

    I vote for #1–no taste–what a waste of milk!

  83. Kate B says:

I hope TeeCee is wrong about the African Violet ice cream s/he had — otherwise, that confectioner is trying to hurt someone. African violets are toxic to humans.

Sweet violets and artificial violet flavoring are used for food.

  84. camile says:
