You may remember — or have participated in — Turkey Hill’s Operation Hometown Hello program which took place in July.
Operation Hometown Hello was a partnership between Turkey Hill Dairy and Turkey Hill Minit Markets which helped collect donations of snacks and other goodies to be shipped to the brave men and women of the Pennsylvania National Guard currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. All you had to do was make a donation in an Operation Hometown Hello box found at any participating Turkey Hill Minit Market. Once the box was filled up, we shipped it off the troops who are always happy to get a taste of home.
We’re proud to announce that Operation Hometown Hello was a success! Thanks to your donations, we shipped more than 550 boxes of beef jerky, bubblegum and other treats overseas to eagerly waiting soldiers. That’s over 5,500 pounds of stuff, or almost one pound for every member of the Pennsylvania National Guard currently deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan!
Below are a few pictures of the troops with the treats many of you donated. Seeing these photos makes us wish we could take the Giant Cow over there and throw a huge ice cream party for these guys. If anyone deserves some time off and a few scoops of mint chocolate chip, it’s them!

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.

“God and the soldier, all men adore
In time of danger and not before.
When the danger is passed and all things righted.
God is forgotten, and the soldier slighted.”

Way to go Turkey Hill!!! Everyone please keep our service men and women in your prayers.
What an amazing program and just another reason to love Turkey Hill!
Anything we can do for our troops who are keeping us a free nation is a good and honorable thing especially when our new president is rubbing elbows with the enemy. God Bless the troops.
This was a great idea but nothing we do can really compensate our soldiers for the sacrifices they are making. Pray for our troops!
What a wonderful thing to do. God bless our troops and God bless Turkey Hill.
Home and Hometowns are what our nation is about. An excellent program for our dedicated soldiers, check out their smiles. It reminds them we really care about them and their families. KUDOS to Turkey Hill and all involved in this wonderful program : )
I think this is an excellent way for Turkey Hill to thank our troops for all they are doing for us.
What an amazing program and just another reason to love Turkey Hill!
Thanks for helping our soldiers in harm’s way…we cannot do enough for them or ever repay them, but i am sure they appreciate everything keep up the great work TH!
TH you did a great job for the troops overseas. Wish I could’ve participated but we don’t have a TH Minit Market where I live. Keep up the good work.
Great job Turkey Hill for thinking of our guys over there — we need to pray for them daily.
GREAT JOB TURKEY HILL!
this is a beautiful story, I will share it with my friend who has adopted soldiers and sent them care packages.
Two Thumbs UP for TH.
Beautiful story and touching poem Gianna.
I think any time we can make our troops happy and let them know they are appreciated it should be done. Thank you Turkey Hill for making this possible.
Nice
Thanks to Turkey Hill and community members our troops were given a very nice treat! Thanks Turkey Hill for helping us to remember the brave men and women who are serving our country and helping us to live in a safer environment.
this was a great idea for our troops. but here is something to think about. i live in nj. in ocean county. we have alot of retired military here and would gladly donate. i have a bot scout troop and would love to get something like this started here. please tell me how we could do this and maybe expand it throughout the state. after all we eat turkey hill in nj too. looking forward to hearing from you. michelle martinez
It is a great thing how generous people are when you ask them to donate. I’ve worked with an organization that sends packages three times a year and our work is always so very much appreciated. Thanks to all who participated–I live too far away from TH Mini Marts to do so.
Very nice, Turkey Hill!!!
I served in Iraq. Any packages from home were a treat no matter what they contained.
What great things we can accomplish when we stand united, and work together for a good cause.
The troops certainly look like they are enjoying the goodie boxes. It’s a nice way to thank our troops for serving their country.
