FEATURED PHOTO: PINEAPPLE BLISS
Posted by: Turkey Hill Team
Aloha! A member of the Ice Cream Journal team recently returned from a honeymoon in Hawaii. Lucky him, right? While he was on the island of Oahu, him and his new bride paid a visit to the Dole Pineapple Plantation. In addition to a tour of the farm, our honeymooners spied the treat below… the Dole Plantation’s famous Pineapple Split. It’s half a pineapple, filled with pineapple and strawberries, topped with three towers of pineapple soft serve ice cream. It’s then drizzled with strawberry and chocolate syrup and, of course, topped with three cherries. Not a bad souvenir for $16.95!

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.

October 24th, 2009 at 11:22 amI will have to buy some TH vanilla ice cream, some pineapple, and make myself one of those delicious looking creations! Now if TH had some pineapple ice cream that would make it even better. Perhaps this coming summer they will come out with pineapple ice cream as a feature flavor!

October 23rd, 2009 at 3:26 pmGet me one of those! It looks great.
October 23rd, 2009 at 2:36 pmTurkey Hill needs some kind of pineapple icecream offered in with its regular ice cream….or maybe in the pints.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:26 amI think I remember this flavor, Orange Pineapple” ice cream was one of our flavors back in 1964. I was only a little kid then but it sounds like something my mother would try for us.

October 23rd, 2009 at 10:23 amI think this looks delicious and I would like to have a mini-version of this as an option to the larger one. I also would like Turkey Hill to come out with Pineapple Ice Cream.
October 23rd, 2009 at 10:19 amWow, Thats the best pineapple split I have ever seen! I’ll have to try it! Thank you.
October 23rd, 2009 at 9:44 amlooks mighty tasty to me.
October 23rd, 2009 at 8:42 amWe hear you all loud and clear… we’ll let our flavor development team know that a pineapple flavor should definitely be considered!!
Actually, in a menu printed in our “Turkey Hill: A Family History” book (available on our website), “Orange Pineapple” ice cream was one of our flavors back in 1964.
Caroline at Manalapan – Unfortunately, we don’t offer public tours of the Dairy, but you’re more than welcome to drive through our neck of the woods during your visit to Lancaster County. We’re located in a beautiful part of the region. If you’re looking for a nice drive to see some rolling fields and farmland, we’ve got it!
October 23rd, 2009 at 7:53 amThat looks so refreshing! I love pineapple ~ Why can’t I find any canned pineapple that is packed in USA anymore???? Well at least we can still make ice cream in this country…
October 23rd, 2009 at 5:59 amYummy! I love pineapple. Have had pineapple sherbert and it is very refreshing. How about making both?
October 23rd, 2009 at 5:52 amAndrea G,
Webster, Ny
That looks like a great wedding present.
October 23rd, 2009 at 1:36 amPineapple ice cream sounds delish! Maybe TH should make a flavor incorporating pineapple. However did they get those towers of soft serve to look like that and be so high?
October 23rd, 2009 at 12:39 amWow, pretty cool.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:46 pmCongrats to the newlyweds! That pineapple split looks absolutely YUMMY!! I could go for some pineapple soft serve.
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:44 pmCongrats to him and his new bride. I am jealous that they got to try to delectable treat. Wow, I should just make that pineapple split my screen saver..!!!!

October 22nd, 2009 at 11:24 pmI love the ice cream at the Dole Plantation and this dessert looks so scrumptious.
October 22nd, 2009 at 10:48 pmWow. (And that’s a lotta calories, too!) It really isn’t too difficult to add finely crushed pineapple to vanilla softserve IC, and it’s a great promo for them.
October 22nd, 2009 at 10:12 pmI’ll have a smaller version with shredded coconut on top…and maybe some coconut syrup instead of strawberry.
October 22nd, 2009 at 10:03 pmHow about incorporating this into a Turkey Hill flavor of ice cream. YUMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 22nd, 2009 at 9:20 pmlooks delicious!
October 22nd, 2009 at 9:05 pmI am going to Hawaii in 3 months! I now have another site to see (and taste)!
October 22nd, 2009 at 9:03 pmWe were there over 20 years ago for our 20th anniversary. I didn’t think the plantations was still there since I was told the cannery was gone. We did a tour of some pineapple plantation and don’t remember any foods being sold but now everything is more commercialized. If you look at a can of pineapple for where it came from it is probably Asia so the plantation is like the current tour of the Hershey chocolate plant. When I was a child I went thru the original plant and now a mock-up for show. Is there any chance of a tour of the TH plant when we head out to the Lancaster area in the spring?
October 22nd, 2009 at 8:50 pmMMMMMMM looks delicious but a bit on the pricey side. One good thing, it should’ve fed the new Mr. & Mrs.
October 22nd, 2009 at 8:41 pmIf you’re gonna be in Hawaii you’re gonna be in a bikini. If you’re in a bikini you’re not gonna even think about eating Pineapple Bliss!
October 22nd, 2009 at 8:40 pmIt was a beautiful but expensive ice cream treat. I can not travel but my sons with their wives have been to Hawaii as well as place I work guys are sent over to work. I wonder if they could bring me one of those pineapple treats back on the plane???
October 22nd, 2009 at 8:22 pmBetter yet TH think that would be a possibility for those of us that can not make that trip??
While in Hawaii 8 years ago, I didn’t get this pineapple sundae at the Dole building. Lots of pineapples though. Turkey Hill, can you take a hint? pineapple.
October 22nd, 2009 at 7:50 pmThis looks more like the PIGS DINNER they used to serve at the local Victory Pig ice cream shop. (For your proof reader, it should be HE and his wife .)
October 22nd, 2009 at 7:36 pmEven though that looks tempting, I’m spoiled by the rich creamy taste of Turkey Hill! Maybe I’ll put a couple of dips of your “Apple Dumpling Ice cream” in a pineapple half and watch an old re-run of Hawaii 5-0….
October 22nd, 2009 at 7:06 pmDanno, please fluff my pillow!
I want one of those pineapple splits, guess I will have to go to Hawaii, unless Turkey Hill can make me one LOL. It really does look delicious. Linda
