The dessert above is, as the title of this blog entry suggests, a savory concoction known as Candied Bacon Ice Cream. The treat is the work of author David Lebowitz (The Perfect Scoop), who concocted the frozen feast using light brown sugar, cinnamon and lots of bacon (recipe here). The combination of everyone’s favorite early morning snack and everyone’s favorite late night indulgence seems like a match made in heaven, which begs the obvious question: Would you eat it?

  5. Christine says:

We have an ongoing conversation at work that fits this post… What food is not made better by either chocolate or bacon? Now we originally paired chocolate with plain vanilla ice cream but I bet if I brought this for lunch one day, every one would try a spoonful just to see if our ongoing question could work both ways!

Yes, I would! In the last three months I’ve eaten Chocolate Bacon Cheesecake and fudge made with cheese and both were yummy. So why not ice cream?

    Sure! :) Why Not?

  20. Leah says:

I like bacon as much as the next bacon fan but I don’t think it belongs in ice cream. Just seems off to me. But my curiosity would get the best of me and I probably would at least give it a try, if there were a sample around. If it were one of my brave days anyway. I’d never make/buy a whole container of it without knowing for sure if I liked it or not though!

  21. Mrs K says:

Aah … bacon. Of course I’d eat it — or at least Try it.

  22. JOANNE says:

  25. Judy says:

Well at first I was inclined to turn up my nose, I think I would try it just to make up my mind. Usually those things that don’t sound good together turn out yummy!!

  26. Judy says:

My first inclination was to turn up my nose, but I probably would try it just to see. Those things that don’t usually sound good turn out to be yummy!!

  28. Steve says:

I would DEFINITELY give it a shot!! Not only do I love bacon, but, after reading the recipe ingredients (brown sugar, cinnamon, rum, etc), I expect that it might be really good!

  29. rosemary says:

  31. Meggin says:

I watched a show about mixing sweet with strange flavors. Id give any ice cream a try. They were even talking about a pickle ice cream…weird but maybe fun!!

  32. Renee says:

EEEwww Yuk! Bacon, cold, all that fat chewy, it is supposed to be crispy and warm! Not Frozen, sounds like a stomach virus twirling, yuk!

  33. enid portnoy says:

I would not eat the bacon candied concoction, as it sounds like something a person might open refrig and take out what’s left, mix with what’s open in cupboard snack area,
–and come out with a stomach ache plus a few other things!!
Sorry-I am a pure bred chocaholic from wayyyyy back and I will stick to anything Turkey Hill chocolate and yummy.

  34. Donna Horst says:

Make my bowl of ice cream minus the candied bacon, please!!

  35. Rosemary says:

Sounds like the perfect breakfast to me for the summer !!! bacon and ice cream… how cool would that be ????

  36. Linda says:

    No I couldn’t & wouldn’t try it!

Your ice cream is the most fantastic in the world. The fact that it is certified kosher gives many the freedom to try tasting and enjoying ALL the marvelous flavors

Mixing the ice cream with bacon, which is not kosher deprives many of enjoying another flavor

  37. Linda says:

Any of the ice creams anytime, with bacon in it no way.

  38. JEAN M says:

TO BE EATEN OR NOT TO BE EATEN…THAT IS THE QUESTION…….to be devoured or not to be devoured that is a question………TO BE ENJOYED OR NOT TO BE ENJOYED…THAT IS..THE LAST QUESTION………SOME LIKE IT “HOT” SOME LIKE IT “COLD” SOME WILL LIKE BACON AND ICE CREAM TWELVE DAYS IN A ROW……………

  39. Karen H says:

I don’t think the question to the consumers is ‘would you eat it’. I think the question should be asked of you…”Why would you even think about selling it?”

  40. Amy Romansky says:

    I’m game. Bring it on!

  41. Melissa Clark says:

Yes – I love everything in it and would definitly try it! I’m sure my son would too!

  42. Margaret says:

One of the best things. I’ve ever eaten was chocolate covered bacon, so I would try the bacon ice cream without hesitation.
