WOULD YOU EAT IT? CANDIED BACON ICE CREAM

The dessert above is, as the title of this blog entry suggests, a savory concoction known as Candied Bacon Ice Cream. The treat is the work of author David Lebowitz (The Perfect Scoop), who concocted the frozen feast using light brown sugar, cinnamon and lots of bacon (recipe here). The combination of everyone’s favorite early morning snack and everyone’s favorite late night indulgence seems like a match made in heaven, which begs the obvious question: Would you eat it?

There is no reason I won’t try this, I always like something new and I eaten bacon in a lot of different ways. And of course you can’t go wrong with ice cream.

  6. Jeffrey says:

I know this puts me in a distinct minority, but I really don’t like bacon, especially, the way it smells. The idea of candied meat seems repulsive. What is the national fascination with bacon anyway? It is certainly unhealthy.

  7. Ann says:

I, myself would not eat candied bacon ice cream. On the other hand my son would eat bacon with anything! So I know that if TH had candied bacon ice cream he would certainly love it. So for those who like bacon give it a try!

  8. Deb Vasel says:

Bacon is bacon, and ice cream is ice cram, and never should the two meet!

  9. Evan Thomas says:

    YES!

  10. Rachel says:

    Yes, I’m afraid I would.

It like McDonalds McGriddles – a pancake sandwich sounds disgusting but the combination of flavors is decadent. Therefore I avoid McDonalds for breakfast whenever possible… and when its not possible… yummmm.

Once to see what it tastes like

  20. Krista says:

As a vegetarian, I would not try this with real bacon in it… but I would eat it with Baco bits in it (since they’re just soy). I can imagine it being a good ocmbination of salty and sweet, like others have said.

  42. Bob Kessler Jr says:

I like bacon and I like ice cream but am not sure about combining them. I would think that the ice cream would overpower the bacon. Keep bacon with eggs and put only sweet things in the ice cream.

  43. Linda Leffler says:

As much as I love bacon, I wouldn’t want it in ice cream. I think it would get gummy, yuk. Linda

  44. Emilia says:

As much as I hate to admit it, it sounds pretty good!

We have an ongoing conversation at work that fits this post… What food is not made better by either chocolate or bacon? Now we originally paired chocolate with plain vanilla ice cream but I bet if I brought this for lunch one day, every one would try a spoonful just to see if our ongoing question could work both ways!

you know what I said before about taste testing, well I am available to taste test this ice cream for anyone who is making this

  67. Susan K Lapp says:

    Sure! :) Why Not?

  68. Leah says:

I like bacon as much as the next bacon fan but I don’t think it belongs in ice cream. Just seems off to me. But my curiosity would get the best of me and I probably would at least give it a try, if there were a sample around. If it were one of my brave days anyway. I’d never make/buy a whole container of it without knowing for sure if I liked it or not though!

  69. Mrs K says:

Aah … bacon. Of course I’d eat it — or at least Try it.

EEEwww Yuk! Bacon, cold, all that fat chewy, it is supposed to be crispy and warm! Not Frozen, sounds like a stomach virus twirling, yuk!

  81. enid portnoy says:

I would not eat the bacon candied concoction, as it sounds like something a person might open refrig and take out what’s left, mix with what’s open in cupboard snack area,
–and come out with a stomach ache plus a few other things!!
Sorry-I am a pure bred chocaholic from wayyyyy back and I will stick to anything Turkey Hill chocolate and yummy.

    No I couldn’t & wouldn’t try it!

Your ice cream is the most fantastic in the world. The fact that it is certified kosher gives many the freedom to try tasting and enjoying ALL the marvelous flavors

Mixing the ice cream with bacon, which is not kosher deprives many of enjoying another flavor

  85. Linda says:

Any of the ice creams anytime, with bacon in it no way.

  86. JEAN M says:

TO BE EATEN OR NOT TO BE EATEN…THAT IS THE QUESTION…….to be devoured or not to be devoured that is a question………TO BE ENJOYED OR NOT TO BE ENJOYED…THAT IS..THE LAST QUESTION………SOME LIKE IT “HOT” SOME LIKE IT “COLD” SOME WILL LIKE BACON AND ICE CREAM TWELVE DAYS IN A ROW……………

  87. Karen H says:

I don’t think the question to the consumers is ‘would you eat it’. I think the question should be asked of you…”Why would you even think about selling it?”

  88. Amy Romansky says:

    I’m game. Bring it on!

  89. Melissa Clark says:

Yes – I love everything in it and would definitly try it! I’m sure my son would too!
