We made this cake for my grandmother’s birthday this weekend-it was really good. The cake is moist and the candy canes and marshmallows add some surprise to each bite. This is a great cake!

What I like is the flexibility of this. An elegant dessert, just change the ice cream to a different Turkey Hill flavor and it’s a whole new dessert: Choco Mint Chip or the Limited Edition Double Dunker would be my first choices for experimenting!

This cake is actually not hard to make, and I am a fairly new baker! I have now made it and the recipe is simple to follow (save the cake recipe for other uses). I do recommend the torte with a bittersweet chocolate sauce drizzle, however.

this dessert looks delicious, but is it one of those trick desserts where the cook is trying in a clever way to reduce calories by subsituting icecream for icing, thereby eliminating the need for a scoop on the side? hmmmm

Chocolate and mint are a holiday favorite (but great any time of year in my opinion!)and this recipe looks delicious. I agree that the small bit of salt is a MUST, even in desserts. My mother is a health nut and often cuts out the salt in desserts which unfortunately leaves her otherwise wonderful cooking tasting two dimensional and flat.

This recipe would be unbalanced without the salt. Salt is necessary to complement and enhance the flavors. It also balances the sugar – with this small amount of salt, it will not taste salty and I would think without the salt, it would taste flat! Why let that happen to the melding of these lovely, complex flavors?

I made a ice cream torte like the one in the picture, but I didnot add salt to it. You don’t need to add salt to a recipe if it is going ot be sweet. I love the picture, but not the salt. Just giveme my turkey hill ice cream with out adding anything else.
