Ernie offered his two cents the other day about whether or not you can eat ice cream (short answer: yes, in moderation), but the video above takes it one step further with a simple demonstration on how to make snow ice cream. We’ve never tried this, but if anyone has, leave a comment and let everyone know how it is!

TODAY’S PRIZE: Everyone has trinkets, doo dads, and odd-and-ends. Whatever you call them, you need a place to put them, and today’s prize is perfect for that job. It’s an ice cream cone trinket box. The box, which isn’t really a “box” in the traditional sense as you can see from the photo above, stands just over six inches tall and is made from ceramic by Fruit Fly Pie on Etsy. One comment at random from all the comments left on this entry will receive this prize.

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
This ice cream cone is adorable! What a great place to hid all my treasures!!!
another cute prize
love the trinket box the best so far
The ice cream cone trinket box is a cool idea for storing cold cash or icey jewels! Clever!
cute ice cream cone box!
I have a cookie jar just like that, only it is 18-inches tall.
This is just what I need.
i’m gonna have to try the snow ice cream. i think i’ll make mine indoors though.
We have lots of trinkets that could use a home.
THAT IS REALLY A CUTE IDEA.
LOVE IT AND IT’S USEFUL TOO.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.
As a child, I made snow cream like this every time it snowed. Now my daughters make it and it’s the first thought my grandchildren have, especially if it’s the first snow of the year. Uh, the narrator left out one important thing: Collect the snow before turning the dogs out to, shall we say, relieve themselves while they frolic in the cold stuff.
Dreaming of my favorite Turkey Hill Ice Cream cone looking at this trinket.
Great recipe idea! Looking out the window, I see a lot of good eating!
the (CONE BOX) looks almost good enough to eat..It is just the right thing for a turkey hill ice cream lover.
I haven’t made this since I was a little girl. I had kind of forgotten the process but now that I have the directions, we’ll be making it again real soon!
Love the ice cream cone – it looks almost good enough to eat.
I’d make snow ice cream but we don’t have snow here! I guess I’ll have to settle for my ice cream machine
And where would be the best place to keep the trinket cone? Perhaps a little girl’s pink bedroom?
Nice prize! I will have to listen to the snow ice cream video later on when I’m not at work…
I’ve never made snow Ice Cream, but I’m fascinated now, and we have 20″ of the lovely stuff all around us. I may have to try it!
i am 6 yrs old and that would be nice to hide my stuff in from my big brother i love ice cream. by
Sounds like the snow ice cream my mother made for me many, many, many snows ago!
I would use it to keep change in to buy my next 1/2 gallon of delicious turkey hill
I think we made snow ice cream in Girl Scouts many moons ago. I really don’t think it was as good as Turkey Hill!
Let me guess, vanilla ice cream with cherry OR strwaberry flavored cone? Cute trinket!
Thanks for the snow ice cream video, my kids are very excited to try it. However, nothing compares to TH ice cream.
Oh, I kind of wish it snowed more here, so we could make Snow Ice Cream. Oh, well, I guess I’ll just have to open a package of Turkey Hill ice cream.
This is another prize that my wife would love to have. But all of her trinkets wouldn’t fit in this small six inch high “box”. Maybe she could fit some of her small jewelry or “cool cash” in this ice cream cone.
I’m still not sure about the snow ice cream. Why make ice cream when you can just buy the good stuff?
I love ice cream, this is great!! barbara
Years ago, when money was scarce, this
was the ONLY way we could afford Ice Cream. Innovation is the key here. Try adding different ingredients to this recipe. Some work and some don’t; peanut butter is too hard to mix with snow, and steak sauce didn’t work too well either. We never used snow from the first snowfall. CLEAN snow is the rule. If you have dogs be careful.
Another cute prize!
nice like to win anything thanks
Wow the perfect place to keep the matching necklace that I didn’t win! I’d love to win this for my dear old Mom she loves ice cream especially soft serve in a strawberry cone. Her favorite is Turkey Hill! Merry Christmas everyone!
I’ve never tried making a snow cone, but I think it would be fun.
This will come in handy if I win it.
What a really cute place to put do-lollies and thing a m-bobs
What a cute prize! Yes, I have made snow ice cream with my Girl Scout troop and with my own children. It was fun. thanks for this chance.
I would prefer to buy my Turkey Hill ice cream because it is so good….but I’m sure if you have young kids in the house, this would be fun to do.
The ice cream cone box is adorable.
Better check the snow for “snow fleas” before you make the ice cream! Another neat prize today!!
Never tried snow ice cream. Eaten plenty of snow as a kid — not yellow snow though! The prize is cute!
looks pretty cool
I wonder if you could eat ice cream out of it. like a reusable cone.
I would rather just buy ice cream, but the trinket box is adorable.
LOOKS good enough to eat!
I love it.So cute.
sounds like fun for grand children
Never had snow ice cream before!
I’ll stick with Turkey Hill!
i love ice cream!
I LOVE Turkey Hill Ice Cream. This cone is another cool creation. I’d like to chill with it. I haven’t made snow ice cream since I was younger, but I remember it being good.

I’ve never tried this Snow Ice Cream recipe but it looks good and relatively easy. That ice cream cone trinket box is just the cutest little thing.
This would make a cute addition to my trinket box collection.
can I get a lick?
I will pass on snow ice cream since I have had enough snow in Central NJ (14 inches) for a while. The cone trinket box looks perfect for our 5 year old grandson to store all his valuable assets it.
I never knew there were so many things representing ice cream.
I guess I will have to wait until it snows the next time for clean snow, but that looks easy. I’ll have to give it a go. That ceramic ice cream cone looks super!
ILL HAVE TO TRY IT
Very cute trinket box. Would find plenty of uses for it. Meryy Christmas to all!
A great reminder to eat more ice cream.
I must win of these prizes one of these days!
I love this trinket box and it would be the perfect christmas present.
perfect to stash my ice cream money!
Great prize! Does it come in other ‘flavors’? LOL
Perfect spot to hide my money from the kids!
I grew up on snow ice cream and loved it every time we could have it. Then when I had my family I served it to our children and they liked it as well. So if you have not tried and you have the snow give it shot I think you will enjoy it cause it is something different. Where we live now it rarely snows or I would be making it and my grandchildren could enjoy it. Nothing beats Turkey Hill for real ice cream but for a different type snow cream is the best. I love the ice cream cone, had to tell my husband it was not real as he said it look good enough to eat. We are turkey hill ice cream lovers.
Merry Christmas to all

What a neat little do-dad.
I love boxs, how did you know? Not run of the mill, just like your products. Have a happy, healthy holiday to all.
This box would look so neat on my kitchen shelf and would remind me to eat more ice cream. Yeah, like I need that reminder!
Love the container! I think I’d have to keep candy or tiny cookies in it.
That would be the perfect place to hide trinkets.
I love it!
Not sure about the snow ice cream, but the box looks like fun, probably precisely the box does not look like a box
All right, ice cream from snow, nice way to take advantage of the cold and snowy weather. like the trinket container and it will get everyones attention. : )
I am not a maker of ice cream, I am an eater of it and my favorite is Turkey Hill but is someone wants to make me some snow ice cream, I will give it a try.
Well we have PLENTY of snow out there! I just might have to try this! Thanks for the video and for the cute lil cone trinket box!
I really could use that prize because I have lots of trinkets
That trinket box is so cute. My great niece (6 years old) would love to have it to store all her treasures.
Rockin trinket
This is a great little trinket box. I like the colors. And the cows in the snow are “cool too”
Very COOL Ice Cream Collectible
OOOlala! I have many trinkets in my kitchen!
Very cool!!
Snow Ice Cream? I don’t know about that but the trinket container looks great!! Maybe with one of these on my kitchen shelf I won’t go nuts looking for my rings when I put them down while cooking or even scooping our favorite Turkey Hill Philadelphia style ice cream.
Snow ice cream sounds good enough to try, but not to compete with Turkey Hill ice cream!
There is nothing better than a dish of Turkey Hill ice cream after a foray in the snow (be it shoveling, driving in it, snowball battles, or snowman creating). Coupled with a piping hot cup of hot chocolate, nothing thaws you out faster or makes you appreciate your blessings more! The ice cream cone box is cute and would make a nice addition to the kitchen scene! BLESSED CHRISTMAS TO ALL IN THE TURKEY HILL WORLD!
I’d rather have a dish of great Turkey Hill ice cream when I come in from a foray in the snow (be it shoveling, driving, or just making some snowballs or a snowman!). Coupled with a piping hot cup of hot chocolate, there is nothing better than the TH ice cream! I’ll pass on snow ice cream! Great little trinket box, and another reminder of ICE CREAM! BLESSED CHRISTMAS to EVERYONE IN THE TURKEY HILL WORLD!
I’ve had this. About 15 years ago I was at a formal and elegant dinner close to Christmas, and it had snowed the day before. After dinner, the host set little silver pitchers at eaach of our place settings. Much to our surprise, he went outside and returned with very ornate bowls on a tray, filled with snow. The pitchers were filled with the cream / sugar mixture, and we were instructed to make our own snow ice cream for dessert. Some people were offended at first, but as soon as one person tried it, everyone gave it a try. It got mixed reviews, but it made for a very interesting and memorable evening. I’m sure almost all of us forget what we ate for dinner that night, but we’ll never forget the dessert.
Snow ice cream….really Cool!
Locked up ice cream, I like it!
When I was a country Kid every fresh snowfall we asked our mother to make this special treat!!! The above recipe is correct but we always used whole milk.
cute idea
My mom and dad made this all the time when we were little. They actually used milk, cocoa and eggs(wouldn’t suggest that nowadays) We just called it snowcream. I just made some last week with our 18″ of snow in PA. You may want to try an easy version..just use your favorite chocolate syrup and make a glass of chocolate milk, put a couple of bowlfuls of fresh snow in a bowl and pour the choco. milk over it. The thicker the better. You could also use strawberry syrup. You can also add flavor extracts to the milk. I like rum extract and pineapple extract! Have a wonderful new year!!
Love your ice cream
love it!
We use to eat snowcream all the time as kids, we lived in Iowa where there is always snow in the winter, our folks made it with milk, sugar, vanilla & eggs, sometimes they would add fruit that had been canned over the summer so we would have strawberry, blueberry & such. YUMMY!
Strawberry screamin’ ice cream
Melts in your mouth away
To leave a great big smile
Across your face all DAY!
What a great idea, and with all the snow we got this year! barbara
