THE ULTIMATE FLAVOR TOURNAMENT IS ALMOST HERE

Posted by Turkey Hill Team on March 3rd, 2010

March means spring and warmer weather approaching, but it also means the start of Turkey Hill’s annual Ultimate Flavor Tournament held right here on the Ice Cream Journal starting next Monday.

The Ultimate Flavor Tournament is a weekly contest that pits one ice cream flavor against another and your votes will determine the winner. The first week (starting on Monday) will feature 16 match-ups (32 total flavors). The 16 winners will face off the next week, which will be whittled down to eight flavors the week after and so on. The contest will culminate in the middle of April with two flavors going head-to-head for the title of Turkey Hill’s Ultimate Flavor.

In 2008, Vanilla Bean swept through the tournament with ease to win the title, but was stopped in the final round the next year by our 2009 champ, Light Recipe Moose Tracks. Both former champs are sitting out this year to give other flavors a chance at the title (we’ll stop short of saying that the previous winners are serving as “coaches” this year because that would be taking the sports theme a little too far).  Who will reign supreme as 2010’s Ultimate Flavor? Your votes will help to answer those questions and your comments could land you some sweet prizes. More on that in Monday’s blog entry!

  41. Charlie says:

Very difficult tournament because (in my opinion) ALL Turkey Hill flavors are equally delicious I honestly could go to the store and select my Turkey hill ice cream blindfolded and be happy.

I can hardly wait for this to start–it means the warm weather is just around the corner!

  43. Lola Jones says:

All flavors of Turkey Hill Cream are winners! There is not a bad one amongst the bunch. My favorite is vanilla but like everyone else…I enjoy seeing the different flavors and who comes out the winner each week. Let the flavors begin!

  47. Lauren says:

    Cool, sounds like fun!

  48. Bob Kessler Jr says:

I wonder if you ever have repeat winners. Of course if you start off with an entirely different group from last year there will always be a new winner. This seems fair. How do you arrive at the original 32 Turkey Hill flavors?

  49. JACKIE AREIAS says:

CAN’T WAIT. I HOPE I’M NOT SITING OUT WHEN IT COMES TO THE WINNERS CIRCLE. I WOULD BE THERE WITH MY FAVORITE MOOSE TRACKS THOUGH.

  50. leecarr says:

to all the lovers of Rum Raisin, get ready to vote early and often. I just think it is the best flavor of all.

  51. Turkey Hill Team says:

We’re glad to see everyone is so excited about the tournament. We are too!! To answer Bob’s question about how the starting 32 flavors are chosen, it’s definitely not an easy process because there are so many Turkey Hill flavors to choose from. There was a lot of debate here at the Dairy when we sat down to figure out this year’s line-up, but I think we have a good list.

We basically chose a field made up of some of the most popular flavors and some of our rising stars. Whatever happens, it’ll surely be interesting!!

  52. Lois Sidelnick says:

I hope I can find all flavors in my local store. I have to try all of them before I can vote.

So much more exciting than basketball..;)

  55. Stefanie Schmidt says:

    So excited for this contest!

  56. Jim in SOMD says:

Good idea to keep the previous winners out of the tournament. Then when you have 4, 8 or even 16 differnet winners, you could make them the top 16 seeds for the following year and see which flavor is the best of the best.

  57. debbie f. says:

    Let the games begin

  58. Marcy says:

I’ll be waiting to play the game! Butterscotch should be a new flavor!

  59. Kate says:

I LOVE Turkey Hill ice cream! Can’t wait to vote on the flavors.

  60. Kim says:

    My favorite is Banana Split

  61. bette says:

rum raisin is awesome. the market i shop in has the same flavors all the time so i printed up the special turkey hill flavors for the year and gave it to the manager. on my next visit (4 days)there was so much coconut ice cream (which i love) that i bought 4 cartons. the check-out lady said she was gonna get some too cuz she never saw it before…. thanx for the yearly list of flavors of the month. it worked!

  62. Sandra says:

I really enjoy the special holiday flavors like Candy Cane and Pumpkin, but how can you go a day without Mint Choclate Chip.

  63. Brenda says:

    I voted today!

  64. Pam says:

Luv the contest! Turkey Hill is the only brand in our freezer and we typically have 8-10 different flavors at any given time. When the numbers get below 4, we’re out looking for the best deal to restock!

  65. Kevin Jeff says:

Sorry I cannot vote for Tin Roof Sundae, that’s my favorite. Many years ago Turkey Hill had a limited time offering of muddy sneakers — I wish I could get that again!

  66. Mitzi Hunter says:

The showdown begins. And the choices are terrific! Some of them will let you think you are eating healthier and who dont love cheesecake! LOL! The choices are tough to pick though! Turkey Hill-here I come. Maybe I better saample each choice again….LOL!

  76. Linda Leffler says:

I love Turkey Hill ice cream and the contests. Linda

  77. Dan Richards says:

I like this contest. Per usual, the frozen yogurt category (for those of us who are Lactose Intolerant) misses out on some of the better flavors. My personal favorites are: Graham Canyon and Peanut Butter Pie. Good luck with the contest, and hope to win. Good luck to the eventual winners!

  78. Abby says:

I absolutely LOVE Skinny Minty, but I cannot find it anywhere by my house:( I would love to win a supply of Ice cream….mmmm:)

  79. Joe C says:

I think that although the chocolate peanut butter cup is more of the traditional mixing of the products the peanut butter ripple is the better of the two because you can really taste the peanut butter which is greatly complimented by the vanilla ice cream.

  80. Marge Healy says:

I ate Light Bavarian Espresso today for first time – it’s wonderbar!!!

  81. Jose says:

Turkey Hill has fantastic flavors! I’m a huge fan, look forward to the next picks.

  82. julie says:

I am very lactose intolerant I will chew those nasty pills everyday just so I can eat Turkey Hill Ice Cream. It used to be that with Turkey Hill Ice Cream I didn’t need to take any pills. But lately things have changed with me. But that isn’t going to stop me from trying all the special flavors and my favorite Butter Pecan.

  83. Sandra S. says:

All of my family loves Turkey Hill Ice Cream. Our family that lives in AZ can’t get your ice cream so when they come to PA I have their favorites in the freezer for them. The main one is always chocolate marshmellow. Maybe with the new flavors this will change.

  84. Fran says:

Can’t believe how close so many are. GO…..Phillies Graham Slam

Turkey Hill Chocolate Mint Chip is the best mint chip ice cream ever made!

Gertrude Hawk Box of Chocolates is the BEST! Wish they made it ALL year!

  99. Peggy Shelatree says:

Oh my gosh! This is wonderful. I haven’t found a Turkey Hill flavor yet, that I don’t like. Sometimes it is so hard to choose, I love them all. Keep up the good work, Turkey Hill.

  100. Sandra Linen-Ward says:

It was difficult to make some choices, strawberries and cream and orange swirl are equally good. The ducettos make the best shakes.

  101. Patti of PA says:

Sorry to see Peanutbutter Fudge brownie did not make it to a limited edition this year. It was fabulous. Only found it once too, please bring it back on a permanant basis!

  110. Kristen E says:

    strawberries and cream are yummy!

  111. Melody says:

Light recipe strawberry cheesecake is beyond awesome. I have some in the freezer right now and it is calling my name!

  112. Angie Metzger says:

I need to win this contest. I live in North Carolina, and it is so hard to find TH Ice Cream, and when I do, there isn’t much selection. Pick ME Pick ME!!!

  113. Jason says:

    two words EGG NOG

  114. Tina says:

come on peanut butter ripple, love ya!
