Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, if you’re a fan of ice cream (and who isn’t?) and you happen to be in the Harrisburg area this Wednesday at noon, you MUST stop by the Capitol Building for the June Dairy Month celebration.
Like last year’s celebration, which is organized by the wonderful folks at the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association, the crowd will watch in awe as the world’s largest ice cream sundae is created right before
their eyes. (It’s not officially the “world’s largest” but it’s close.) The giant sundae will be served up to anyone who wants some. If you’re curious to see what a giant ice cream sundae on the Capitol steps looks like, check out our entry from last year’s event or just take a gander at the picture at the top of this entry. As always, Turkey Hill is proud to provide the 90 gallons of ice cream that will be used to make the gigantic dessert.
To recap, stop by the Capitol Building steps in Harrisburg this Wednesday, June 9 at noon if you want to witness a fitting tribute to the hard-working dairy farmers of Pennsylvania and sample some delicious Turkey Hill ice cream. Free of charge, of course. Now that’s what we call a lunch break!

If you’ve got a technical question about the ice cream making process or some other inquiry about the nuances of America’s favorite treat, chances are Ernie has the answer. He might not be able to answer all questions, but he’ll try his best and some may be featured on the Ice Cream Journal.
I could have that for a snack (all of it)!
hope you have a GIANT UMBRELLA to go over it, as it will be raining….lol wish i could get there….
Wow, I wish I would be in the area!!!
well there goes my diet again
love to be there but live to far to drive there
It looks like rolls of toilet paper with syrup drizzled over it.
Hope it wasn’t wasted and people got to share it.
RSVP – I plan to be there! Thanks!
How about coming to my backyard!!!!!!!! I’ll provide the plates and plasticware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahhh if only we lived closer–free ice cream would be great!!!
June may be Dairy Month but everyday is ice cream day.
Those kiddie pools come in handy. We had one for our kids when they were small and hubby love it to give the dog a bath. Never thought of using one for a super sized ice cream sundae. You could have had other flavors beside vanilla but the topping make up for that. Hope it was all devoured by the crowd
This type of event has become a tradition at our elementary school. It started out to be The Superintendent’s Sundae and it is the end of the year culmination of our reading program. In past years our superintendent/or principal have arrived by helicopter, fire truck, parade float and many other forms of transportation. This year the top readers were allowed to make our principal into a sundae–complete with the cherries on the top.
I wish you wouldn’t tell us about it because it is too far for us out east!
Too far for me to travel, hope everyone gets some of that treat!
Sure wish Harrisburg was closer!
I live too far away to partake. Would have been a nice birthday dessert! (A day late, but still something fun to do!)
I’m to far away. You should send everyone a coupon for free ice cream, so we can all celebrate!
Though I can’t be there to enjoy, I can certainly envision the tasty treat!
That looks soooo good. Wish I could be there. I’ll just have to make a miniature, miniature, miniature size one. How delightful.
I wish I could twitch my nose like Samantha and be there. YUM!
Wow what a nice treat! Enjoy all who can take part in the treat!
Those of you who live in the Harrisburg, Pa. area, enjoy. What a yummy treat and it’s free.
Looks delicious. Wow!
Hope it’s not a real hot day. You may be drinking the ice cream instead of eating it. Too bad they don’t do something like that in the capital (Annapolis) of our state (Maryland).
I love your ice cream!
Bring it on!!!!
Looks very good and I will be making a smaller version of this. Those of you who are lucky enough to live in that area, enjoy!
if I could, I would be there,
but since I can’t, you won’t see me there.
however, enjoy it and you can eat my share.
FREE Turkey Hill ice cream sundae,I will just have to make my own. An 8 hour drive is a little to much!
Now we’re talking! It’s a lot beter than the jalapeno-tabasco & fish n chips ice creams.
YUMMy!!!!!!!!!
Too far for me to go–but enjoy all who get there.
Wow, that sounds great. It is a three hour drive from where I live, but I just may take the family on a road trip!

I live too far away, but if I had a chance nobody would keep me away. Yummy, yummy, yummy.

Can’t make it. Keep the state lawmakers away, they get enough of our money, they don’t need free ice cream.
