Happy National Ice Cream Month!! We’d like to take this time to welcome all of our new readers and also point out, one more time, our snazzy new Ice Cream Journal design. (Sorry, we can’t get enough of this new design. The old one was in use for almost four years, so you can understand our excitement, right?)

This year’s National Ice Cream Month celebration here on the Ice Cream Journal will be a little different than past years because we’ve turned over the blog writing duties to YOU — our readers! Throughout July we’ll be featuring reader-written entries on a variety of topics, including “your fondest ice cream memory,” “your ice cream pet peeves,” and one reader’s interview with our very own Einstein of Ice Cream, Mr. Ernie Pinckney.

We’ve already read most of the entries submitted by our readers-turned-bloggers and we are POSITIVE that you’ll love every one of them. The entries are above and beyond anything we could have expected, but we really shouldn’t be surprised because we’ve known all along that we’ve got some of the best and most passionate readers and ice cream fans anyone could hope for!

For their time, our blog writers will be “paid” with a one month supply of Turkey Hill ice cream. But we’re also rewarding our readers too! At the end of National Ice Cream Month, we’ll choose FIVE comments at random to also receive a one month supply of Turkey Hill ice cream. So leave a comment today and tomorrow and the next day and the next, because your comment might be one of the ones we pick!

my pet peeve with ice cream is that your first and second bites are full of flavor and wonderful, but then your taste buds “freeze up” and thhe rest of the bowl is just cold. i usually take a couple bites, wait a few minutes, take a couple more bites, etc, by the time i finish, i’m sucking up a warm milk shake from the bottom of the bowln bur really, that’s the best part. lol

I have to go from store to store to find a cache of those flavors and then I bring home 2 of each. I feel like I hit pay dirt when I find them and I grab them. Its like a treasure hunt. I have to find the Philadelphia choclate for me. My fave.

Funny Ice Cream story: My MIL has always been the perfect hosewife, cook, etc. But, there was this one time she decided to make homemade ice cream. Somehow the salt from the machine got into the ice cream. My FIL had been looking forward to this homemade peach ice cream all evening. When he tasted it being the gentleman he was he smiled and said delicious. It was not till my MIL tasted it that she knew something had gone real wrong. Needless to say, she buys her ice cream now. :O)

this is a no brainer to celebrate, do it everyday, do it early, do it often. yippie!

  40. Ron Sworen says:

Turkey Hill made ice cream month special for me for a number of years. “DEATH BY CHOCOLATE” was a special release in July. This was a chocolate lovers dream, a dark chocolate ice cream with dark chocolate bits and dark chocolate sauce. IT MADE MY SUMMER COMPLETE! No one else has come close.
Virtually every chocolate lover in Hunterdon County, NJ, would call or email me wanting to know if it was out yet. I would receive phone calls from the frozen food managers at our local supermarkets letting me know when it came in. I would send out a blast to the other “DBC” lovers to let them know it was in.
Our ShopRite would open a special check out line for me as I purchased 2 or 3 blister packs at a time(6 in each). The favorite story was one of my daughters running upstairs yelling to my wife that “Dad has 20 half gallons of Death by Chocolate in the freezer!”
Turkey Hill has many great flavors, but I still miss Death by Chocolate in July. Turkey Hill,,,how about a special limited run again? Make my July

    Ron Sworen

  41. Karen says:

Yes! Just one taste of that red, white and blue cone! Turkey Hill is my favorite summer treat. A nice big bowl of whatever flavor is in the freezer. Now that’s what I’m talking about!

  46. Paul says:

Turkey Hill frozen yogurt deserves lots of accolades! While my wife is enjoying her Turkey Hill Tinroof Sundae. I’m going to celebrate National Ice Cream Month chomping on PomBlueberry Chocolate Truffle-Limited Edition It’s unbelievably good. The taste is fabulous. The consistency is so creamy that if you didn’t look at the box indicating Frozen Yogurt, you will never know that it’s not ice cream. Yummmmmm. The chocolate Truffle is so chunky in every bite, not hard but creamy and just right for chewing. I wish I can be more descriptive but you gotta try it. Best of all, no guilt, “0 mg” Cholesterol. If you’ve ever eaten frozen yogurt from other brands, Turkey Hill frozen yogurt will be heaven for you. Enjoy

  58. CHRISTINE says:

Great looking 4th of July Ice Cream cone. Turkey Hill should make them for our special Holidays like Memorial Day, and the 4th. They would make a really nice ending to a picnic or bbq.
Even if you can’t put it together I am sure we will still enjoy our favorite flavors. We will just have to decorate them ourselves some how.
    Happy 4th everyone.

  59. molly ratner says:

I love ice cream Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

My fave summer treat is a homemade Turkey Hill milkshake—quick and easy and absolutely delicious and refreshing.
    Here’s my recipe:
3 scoops icecream–any flavor goes, but my favorite is vanilla
    3 glasses of skim milk
a shpritz of liquid vanilla and an icecube or 2.
Blend it all in a blender or shaker. Pour into 2 very tall glasses. Add straws…and go outside to sit and sip with a best friend on a pleasant summer evening

  60. Tami Graner says:

I love ice cream but Turkey Hill is my favorite ice cream of all. The thrill of trying new flavors is one of the biggest things to look forward too. I love serving ice cream & to have unique flavors to serve to friends & family is just wonderful to me. My close friends & I love to try, taste & discuss the new flavors with everyone. When I am in a store and people ask me about a flavor or if I am in the ice cream isle I will ask someone if they have tried the new flavor. So Congratulations Turkey Hill and Let’s all celebrate National Ice Cream Month (even though I celebrate National Ice Cream day!)

And July being National Ice Cream month just gives me another reason to partake! I have to be patriotic! :) Happy Ice Cream month!!

  64. Kathy Benjamin says:

With Turkey Hill ice cream every month is ice cream month!!! It’s our favorite ice cream. It’s nice and creamy and taste like home made. Also the no sugar which my husband eats has a good home made taste too. We eat eight to ten containers a month at least. YUM!!

  65. Harry Wittmer says:

Since we buy 2 or 3 of the Vanilla and Choc half Gallons, I think that it would be great to choose us for being the lucky one for ice cream free for a year. Actually I think it would be great. In fact I use the callendar daily for my appointments so Turkey Hill is never too far from me.
    Thanks
    Harry

  66. Harriet G. says:

Turkey Hill Philadelphia Style Vanilla evokes great memories of times past and will be remembered often in the future as I eat it almost every day. God Bless America and Turkey Hill!

  83. Ed says:

Try as you might, there is nothing better than vanilla bean ice cream from Turkey Hill!

  84. Joanie says:

My fondest ice cream memory is also one of my fondest memories of my Dad who passed away over a year ago. Every year my parents would take all of us 10 children down to the Jersey shore, Long Beach Island for our 2 week vacation. No boardwalk, just digging in the sand, swimming all day, playing board games at night.
Everyone would ask my Dad, “What did you do with 10 kids down the shore?” He would say, “I’d take them all out for ice cream and drive around the island til they all fell asleep!” Good times, thanks Pop!

  85. Lois Sidelnick says:

June’s flavor of the month was supposed to be Double Dunker. I spent the entire month looking for it. I live in Hanover, PA. I checked all 3 T H stores in Hanover, the one in McSherrystown, and our local Giant store. How did I miss it? (I asked at all the Turkey Hills, and none of them ever recalled getting it in.)

I’m so sad, it is very hard to find a store with a variety of Turkey Hill, which is my favorite, I have been searching and asking friends in different areas to check for Coconut Almond Fudge. No one carries it, so July isn’t so happy for me.

  104. Cinda Fiedel says:

How much more patriotic can Turkey Hill get with that great looking soft serve cone. I hope that all the readers remember the meaning of the 4th of July!!! The only way to begin my day on a happy note is with a large scoop of Turkey Hill Original Vanilla Ice Cream in my morning coffee. No need to add milk; the Turkey Hill cools the coffee to just the right temperature and puts a delicious sweet and creamy “froth” on top. It’s absolutely yummy!!!

  119. Buck Taylor says:

Turkey Hill is my favorite ice cream. It is so creamy and delicious!!! I love the “duets” but the market I shop at had the duet with “Coconut” only one time and never have had it since. It was so good that I purchased the last three containers and they have not had it since. I just bought 4 containers of new flavors at my favorite “Martins Market”. I usually have a big bowel every night. Keep up the good works with your NEW Flavors and PLEASE, tell me how I can get the duet with coconut. Thanks and have a wonderful day.

How did youi ever come up withj such a name for my favorite flavor. I lost my appetite during those brutal hot weeks and I ate mostlu ceral, fruit and ice cream. I loved kt.

  127. Nancy Brutt says:

My family loves Turkey Hill ice cream. I have several flavors in the freezer right now! Happy ice cream month!

  128. Bonnie Witte says:

We just love TH ice cream! It is so refreshing & delicious. It hits the spot when its hot outside & you need a cool refreshment. But in our family we love it hot or cold, rain or shine!

  129. Turkeys gobble to talk. I gobble up Turkey Hill ice cream on cereal, with toppings and with liquors. My family and guests love these treats to beat the heat which makes me strut/explode with pride. Happy, happy July (and the rest of the year too)!

  130. Mrs. B says:

It’s out lucky day! Turkey Hill ice cream was 5/$10 at the store-of course we stocked up! Especially on the household favorite, Mint Chocolate Chip, or the “GREEN Kind” as it’s known here. Our red, white and blue holiday always includes a little green!! Thanks Turkey Hill!

  131. Caroline of Manalapan says:

Too bad Mrs B didn’t give the store name for the 2 buck TH. We have our grand daughters up for camp grandma and I stocked up on the TH sandwiches for them. My fond memories is going down the block to the luncheonette for an ice cream sundae with all the topping. When I got older my friends and I would go to Jahn’s for the “Kitchen Sink” which took 6 of us to finish off.

  132. emilia says:

This is for Janice M. Our local ShopRite has the Coconut Almond Fudge. We just finished ours today. I don’t know how far you are from NJ but it could be worth the trip.

  133. Don says:

I love the red, white and blue cone! There may be only one month set aside for National Ice Cream Month, but EVERY month is Turkey Hill Ice Cream Month in our house! We love so many of the flavors, but are absolutely enamored with the Bavarian Espresso! Thank you to all who have fought, and continue to put themselves in harm’s way for our freedoms, including the freedom to enjoy Turkey Hill Ice Cream!!

  134. Jason says:

I have just recently discvered Turkey Hill Ice Cream for myself. Let me tell you, I was not disapointed! I will not be going bck to my old brand of choice….Turkey Hill i my new favorite! (So far I’m the most fond of the double dunker flavor–ECSTASY!)

  135. Me and my family love Turkey Hill ice cream, and especially our dog Howie.Whenever Howie wonders over to the neighbors yard,I will yell Turkey Hill ice cream, and Howie will come running as fast as he can,up the stairs to the back porch,to have a scoop of ice cream. It works every time. Thanks!!!

  136. Caryl Sheppard says:

Plain vanilla, well not exactly plain, a trip outside & pair it up with fresh from the garden strawberrues, raspberries, wineberries or blueberries. Now that my favorite dessert has added vitamins & oxidants I can have an extra large serving.

  137. Ann says:

Turkey Hill ice cream is the best. I absolutely love it. Your duo and duettos are fantastic and I love your Southern Lemon Pie. I just wish it wasn’t a limited edition. Even your frozen yogurt and your light and sugar-free ice creams taste rich and creamy. Keep up the good work.

  138. Pat Gilbert says:

We love Turkey Hill ice cream and feel very lucky to have a Turkey Hill store open near us. We all have our own favorite flavor. Too bad you don’t offer the patriotic cone!!! Have a happy and safe 4th of July!!! Wave your flag proudly!!

  139. Kylie says:

I love the variety Turkey Hill offers- duettos, Limited editions, and the “original” flavors. Since I can’t decide on one favorite I think I will continue to try a new flavor each trip to the grocery store! I am spoiled we live near numerous Turkey Hill providers who don’t hold back on flavors :)

  140. trude says:

My favorite flavor is Banana Split, would you believe I met a very wonderful man discussing our favorite flavor at a super market. Yes, we are in a relationship and enjoy Turkey Hill ice cream in our private time together.

  141. Maria says:

So I bought a small root beer & vanilla Duetto and who would have thought that an ice cream flavor could bring me back to a wonderful bittersweet memory of my dad who has been gone now for many years. He always made us root beer floats when we were kids. It was his thing. He continued that little tradition with the grandchidren. When my daughter was visiting I didn’t say a word to her. I just served her some. Instantly her reply was “Oh this reminds me of Pop Pop” From there we had a wonderful conversation about past memories. Thanks Turkey Hill.

  142. Violet says:

So difficult to choose from your assortment of delicious ice cream, yogurt and ice tea too. We enjoy all of your products daily and know we will never go back to our last popular ice cream. Turkey Hill has taken over the reins in our family and we enjoy all of your flavors. Thank you for making my life easier with your great selection too especially in our favorite ice cream pie receipes.

    Keep you cows happy too!

  143. Tim says:

Turkey Hill has such great ice cream and they are always coming up with new favorite flavors. Twin Mint is our families latest All-Time Favorite! Mint Chocolate Chip on one side with Chocolate Mint on the other side. What a cool flavor on a hot day in July!
I can’t wait to try Caramel Apple!

  144. Lois R Walley says:

When I go to my local grocery stores it is a very hard decision to pick your ice cream. I could pick one of each and when I get home will not have room to put in my freezer. Your ice cream is alway so smooth and creamy. It is like the potato chip ad “I bet you can’t each just one” you have to have more and more. Just continue to keep doing whatever to your cows. Yeah delicious

  145. Janet Pereira says:

Still love Turkey Hill Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup.

  146. pat tedeschi says:

Just finished my very first carton of Turkey Hill coconut almond and rushed out to buy another for the 4th. It is by far my favorite flavor. Keep it up Turkey Hill.

  147. susan Reed says:

This is one Ice cream I can eat,I am lactose intolerant, but can eat this ice cream, best tasting and loads of flavors to choose from love it.

  148. Laurel says:

My family loves Turkey Hill ice cream. We actually think every month is national ice cream month! We have so many old time favorites like choco chip mint, chocolate peanut butter cup, however our newest favorite is ginger snap. When I hear the word ice cream I think of Turkey Hill! Thanks for making great ice cream!

  149. Julie says:

My fav is Eagles Touchdown Sundae, but my store doesn’t sell it in the summer. :(

  150. Paulina says:

Some stores offer a variety of TH inc cream, but the store I usually visit only has about 6 different flavors, usually not the latest month variety. So, I have to shop around. My favorites are Febuary’s Box of Chocolates, Vanilla Bean and Vanilla Rum Raison. Not a buyer of inc cream mixed with cookies as I would rather have my cookies on the side. Would like to have the lemon ice with chopped almonds.

  151. Don Gaus says:

I like the new format! Where can I get that squid ice cream locally? It sounds so yum yum!

  152. Harris Colton says:

On this July 4th weekend, our family shows their INDEPENDENCE by each selecting their own flavor of Turkey Hill ice cream. If two select the same there would be FIREWORKS!
Of course, the Phillies fan selects Phillies Graham Slam and the Yankees fan wants Bronx Bombers Sundae. When they play each other again, I would want more than a Banana SPLIT because I think that the Yankees are Lemon SOFT.
My wife made a blueberry pie and she was going to put some PomBlueberryCocolate on it but I told her not to go to any Truffle.
But as George Washington said at Valley Forge,” It’s good that it’s cold here so my Turkey Hill Ice Cream won’t melt.

  153. Jane Ma says:

It’s the second day of July and another gorgeous day to be eating Turkey Hill Ice Cream! I’m actually in the process of packing for a trip to Chicago to see the 4th of July Fireworks but packing is really exhausting and a little Turkey Hill Ice Cream is sounding really good right about now… that was delicious, now back to packing!

  154. Lois Sidelnick says:

Just tried your Duetta apple and caramel. I am a favorite for all the Duettas and just love this one.

  155. Suzanne says:

I love all the different flavors Turkey Hill has!

  156. Barbara Kann says:

How do we get our stores to get these new flavors? We get the same old flavors all the time.

  157. Bob Jenkins says:

There is no doubt in my mind that Turkey Hill Ice Cream is the best available here in Bucks OCunty,PA. I just love the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup. I quizzed Turkey Hill about being able to buy this chocolate ice cream without the peanut butter but it isn’t available. I am currently preping for a fourth of July BBQ and Turkey Hill Chocolate Pea Nut Butter ice cream WILL be served. Thanks Turkey Hill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  158. miriam berke says:

Whenever my granddaughters visit, the first words I hear are,
“Grandma, is Turkey Hill in the freezer?”

  159. Paul Bunn says:

I used to be a Breyers diehard. But then i tired of their same old variety. That’s when I went strolling down ice cream lane at the supermarket and discovered the Holy Grail of taste and inventiveness, Turkey Hill. Now I anxiously await the newest Limited Editions. My wife thinks that I am nuts when I come home with six containers at a time of you delicious concoctions. I can honestly say that I have tried EVERY ONE of your flavors, including the frozen yogerts which I thought I wouldn’t like, and found then ALL intoxicatingly addictive. Thanks for the great work. I look forward to your upcoming flavors.

  160. Sheryl Valenza says:

How can I get in on this opportunity to write an entry for one of these days? I have so many passionate opinions and interesting information on ice cream and I would totally love to share my knowledge or opinions with others. This sounds like a refreshing way to spend my free time.

  163. Jackie from Atlantic Highlands, NJ says:

I love so many flavors of ice cream and in reading all the comments I saw a couple of them about Box of Chocolates ice cream. This sounds delicious and I haven’t seen this one at my local supermarkets. Why don’t you offer them for sale on your site so that we can order the ones we want and have them shipped directly to us?

  164. Stefanie says:

I love the new blog design! Turkey Hill is so good in summer.

  165. Maureen says:

I love Turkey Hill because you have so many flavors and it’s a reasonable price. It’s so sweet and creamy. My favorite is bannna split. Maureen from Philly

  166. Mary Ann says:

I have loved Turkey Hill Rocky Road and Chocolate Marshmallow since I was a little girl. I remember the old containers that were mostly white and were round. I also remember the round lid having a window that I used to love to look thru when we picked the ice cream up at the store to make sure the label on the container was accurate! lol! I would also lick or scrape that window clean with a spoon so i could tell how much of the ice cream was left inside. The container may have changed long ago, but the Turkey Hill ice cream is still the best! AND, when there is a coupon or sale, well that just makes it all the sweeter. ;)

  167. Jane Ma says:

It’s almost time for me to go catch my bus to Chicago for the 4th of July holiday. I am really excited to go, it will definitely be a highlight of my summer. It’s too bad I can’t bring some Turkey Hill Ice Cream with me. I guess this is my last serving of Turkey Hill Ice Cream, well at least for a little while.

  168. Regina says:

I just took a break from vacuuming to catch up on e-mail and there was my invite from Turkey Hill to celebrate National Ice Cream Month…as if we need a reason to eat Turkey Hill ice cream for a month. The black raspberry cone on the web page has me salivating and I’ll soon be at my freezer’s door. Happy celebrating everyone!

  180. Jane Ma says:

Today I just bought some more Turkey Hill Ice Cream since last night I polished off all the Turkey Hill Ice Cream in my freezer. After eating all that ice cream yesterday, I thought I would never be able to eat another serving of ice cream but I guess I truly will never get sick of ice cream.

Today my family is coming back home from a trip to New York. What better way then to celebrate than with a Turkey Hill Ice Cream Social? Guess that means I got to go grocery shopping for more Turkey Hill Ice Cream.

  183. Jane Ma says:

I can’t believe July is already half way over! It’s bitter sweet because July is national ice cream month and I don’t want it to end but then again I also can’t wait for it to end because I desperately want to be a winner of a month’s worth of free Turkey Hill Ice Cream!

  187. Jane Ma says:

It’s Turkey Hill time! Time for me to enjoy my daily dose of Turkey Hill Ice Cream while I post a comment on the Turkey Hill Ice Cream Journal. How satisfying!

  188. Suzy says:

“I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream” when the weather turns tortuous like we’ve been getting all across the USA during this month of July 2010.

  189. Jane Ma says:

Turkey Hill Ice Cream is by far the best ice cream sold in supermarkets! I still have yet to find a more delicious brand than Turkey Hill! Turkey Hill should open up it’s own ice cream shop! People would surely flock to it!

  190. Jane Ma says:

Wow, I feel like the stupidist person who has ever commented on the Ice Cream Journal. Everytime I left a comment, it was on the same July 1st post. Peole who are reading the comments must be like what the heck, why does she keep commenting on the same post??? I finally figured out why there were never any new posts. It’s because I bookmarked this page on July 1st to make it easier for me to get to the site and leave a comment but unfortuantly my assumption that everyday it would automatically change to the new post was wrong. Boo Hoo! Maybe now I’ll finally comment on the new posts, or maybe I’ll just be super silly and keep commenting on the same July 1st post, after all it’s my favorite because it talks about my faborite things: JULY, NATIONAL ICE CREAM MONTH & FREE TURKEY HILL ICE CREAM!

  191. peg says:

Sorry i’ve not been on your site for a while. Between viruses and breakdowns, I’m happy to be back. Just wanted to tell you that I bought 3 gallons (containers) of turkey hill ice cream yesterday. It make my evening to eat what 3 different kinds at a sitting.

  192. Regina says:

Wow, July has been hot, hot, hot and I’ve done more than my share to celebrate National Ice Cream Month…..mostly Turkey Hill Mint Chocolate Chip!

  193. Spyder says:

It is a very good place!…
