IF I COULD INVENT A NEW FLAVOR

We asked Mary Alice a simple question: If you had Ernie’s job for a day and you could invent one new ice cream flavor, which flavor would you invent? She answered with a flavor that would make half of Pennsylvania’s football fans VERY happy!

Ice cream is good after everything, but especially good after hot sausage sandwiches loaded with peppers, onions and red sauce washed down with beer during a Pittsburgh Steelers football game. Or pizza and beer or well, fill in the blank yourself with your favorite team and meal!

Football fans everywhere may be firing up their grills for summer but, down deep, they know it’s just dress rehearsal for the new football season just months away. Whether the team is Philadelphia, Baltimore, San Francisco, Miami , Chicago or Pittsburgh, grills at stadium parking lots, backyard patios or kitchens will be steaming with tasty grub.

And freezers will be loaded with Turkey Hill fan favorites, especially with sports flavors, but an expansion of those flavors needs to happen. Pittsburgh fans, already spoiled with six Super Bowl rings, want still more, more, ah, s’mores!!

I challenge super flavor wizard Ernie to gather his graham crackers, marshmellows, chocolate chunks and a bucket of half vanilla and half chocolate ice cream to create a new Sports Flavor: Pittsburgh Steelers S’Mores!

vanilla with chocolate and strawberry swirl but never any chocolate mint ever.

  2. jilly says:

id invent pumpkin and pumpkin seed …

  3. Ellen says:

Good job Mary Alice. Pittsburgh Steelers S’Mores is a great flavor. Maybe Ernie will take the hint.

  4. lori says:

columbian coffee with lots of fudge and some almonds, maybe even some peanut butter! Yumm!

Ps wish I could get the Eagles Touchdown Sundae in VA. We really miss it since moving here last fall.

  5. Jacqueline Seewald says:

Maple walnut chocolate chip would be my flavor, a combination of great tastes!

  6. Brian Dunham says:

If I could invent a new ice cream flavor, I wouldn’t.
As jejj Goldberg said in the first Jurasic Park movie, ”
Just because something can be done, doesn’t mean it should”.

  7. Brian Dunham says:

My apologies to Mr. Goldberg, typo on his first name – Jeff.

  8. ralph smith says:

I would like you to come up with a Cincinnati Bengals Ice Cream. Something likw Vanilla and Fudge Swirl with Peanut Butter chuncks in it.

  9. Elise says:

I would invent a rootbeer float flavored ice cream, as I love those. I also like walnuts on my ice cream, and think that the maple walnut chocolate chip that Jacqueline Seewald would create sounds great!

  10. Ken says:

    I love your ice cream!

  11. Jerry says:

My flavor would be Coffee Peanut Butter Heath Bar Crunch

  12. Adrienne says:

I really, really, really really, really need a cream soda flavored ice cream. Seriously. There is another brand of ice cream which shall remain nameless, that does a root beer flavor ice cream, and it seriously rocks. But root beer isn’t my favorite. Cream soda has my heart. And if turkey hill produced said cream soda ice cream, well, they’d be the hero in this house permanently. :-)

  13. Caroline of Manalapan says:

A few days back someone mentioned her mother liked Maple Walnut so why invent something new when you can reinvent an oldie like maple walnut. I haven’t seen it in decades and maybe the last time and that is a maybe was the old Howard Johnson’s Ice cream stand (before they went into restaurants and motels)

  14. jonibee says:

    Even though I’m a N.E.Patriots fan..your choice is a “winner”!

  15. Robin Ames says:

    It’s JEFF GOLDBLUM!!!
I couldn’t endorse a Pittsburgh Steelers confection. If it was Dallas Cowboy-related, I’d be in!

  16. bill says:

cream soda sounds good. maybe grape and vanilla might be ok.just a thought.

  17. Joanna says:

Ernie I have an Idea just make the same Ice cream with different football teams on it. This way you can please every football team diehard person I think it would make Turkey a fortune.
So this way you please everyone on football season.

  18. alicelynne says:

I would like to see Turkey Hill Vanilla with peanut butter cups!!

  19. Fred V says:

    THAT SOUNDS
    DARN GOOD TO ME !!!!!!

  20. jeannine says:

As a fellow steelers fan, that flavor ice cream sounds awesome.
Turkey Hill wouldn’t this be a great new fall favorite?

  21. Cinda F says:

Although we now live in NJ we are well 3 of us in this house are diehard Steelers fans. I as the Mom was raised in the suburbs of Pittsburgh and I am a true fan not a bandwagon member. Great idea to invent the Steelers flavor. To The comment from Elise I think Turkey Hill had a rootbeer duetto if I am not mistaken Whatever The Quality of Turkey Hill icecream is the best and ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Nancy N says:

Lots of good ideas above. You all invent them and I’ll be the taste tester!! :-)

  23. Sarah says:

I think TH needs to market some new flavors to honor Penn State and Pitt football – something like Nittany Nosh or Panther Peach Melba.

  24. Pat says:

Sounds like a great flavor! Good job Mary Alice! :)

  25. JB says:

    Go Steelers! The Burgh rocks….

  26. Norma says:

How about a new Duetto for our Jets and Giants fans. Just call it Split Personality!

  27. BETTY says:

    id love them all

  28. Sharon says:

Sounds interesting. We love Phillies Graham Slam, so we would probably love that combo too.

  29. Harriet G says:

    Sounds delicious

  30. marion says:

Vanilla & coffee ice cream with walnuts and a chocolate swirl!

  31. CAROL TRIANO says:

Great idea, Mary Alice. The Steelers are my hometown team and I like your new flavor idea…

  32. emilia says:

Sounds great. Can we also do coconut and chocolate?

  33. Carol Y says:

    Fantastic idea!

  34. Vittoria M. says:

Great idea but then again, I may be a little biased. I’m telling you, think yellow marshmallows in there to show serious support for the black (chocolate) & gold!!!

  35. Bruce Schmeck says:

Love the Steelers, not too crazy about smores.

  36. Joanne says:

    Something with hazelnuts!!!
Many, many years ago, another ice cream maker had a Banana Split ice cream that was banana flavored with hazel nuts and a chocolate swirl (or maybe chocolate bits!).
It is my favorite to this day, even though I haven’t had it in over 40 years.

  37. Kathy M. says:

    Whaaa….? Talkin’ about football already?

My heart belongs to baseball, so may I suggest that Turkey Hill’s Yankee/Phillie selections be taken one step further, and include a mini-baseball (dark choc with a nut inside) in each carton.

Also, enlarge the carton for all baseball flavors, and call the series “The Bigs.”

Play ball, and take a lick!

  38. kathy m i am with u thats sounds good

  39. Marcy says:

    Butterscotch with Vanilla!

  40. Arvella says:

Sorry, but I am a Philadelphia sports fan, but s’mores sounds like a really good flavor. I do like the Grand Slam and Touchdown Sundae. I just got 2 cartons of ice cream last night. Time for breakfast!!

  41. Elizabeth P. says:

Love the idea! Sounds amazing, and not just because of Steelers ;)

  42. mary ann herrmann says:

..i want cantaloupe!! cool & refreshing during these hot & humid summer months. thank YOU!!

  43. Linda Leffler says:

I would like cherry nut with coconut. I make this flavor with TH Van. adding the nuts and coconut. Linda

  44. Jim in SOMD says:

I know that TH already has Blitzburgh Crunch and Eagles™ Touchdown Sundae. However there are also at least 2 flavors for Phillies fans and several for the Yankees. Mary Alice’s idea is pretty good. Steelers™ S’Mores is a good name andGrahm Crackers in an ice cream recipe is already a TH staple.

  45. artemis says:

flower flavors or herbs….Ring of cream with roses..lemon balm lift…loads of lavender creamy dream
    .\\

\..juicy mint julip.. hibiscus chammomile swirl …

  46. brenda brooks says:

    Good Morning Turkey Hill fans,
I would mix turkey hill blueberry ice cream with more real blueberry, strawberry and blackberry vanill ice cream. with a hint of vanill seed.

  47. Jean Marie says:

They all sound good to me!

  48. donna joyce says:

Football and ice cream? I shiver at the thought of it…..Mary Alice has a good flavor challenge for Ernie, but it needs to be more of a “childhood” memory or “woodland” themed name.

The Steeler fans would probably buy it as a novelty, but why let the wonderful taste of Turkey Hill Ice-Cream sit in the freezer all winter, just because it’s a novelty? Come up with a better namesake for the S’more’s flavor and do the rest of us in the country a favor (or flavor lol) !!

  49. Jane Ma says:

When I first found out about Turkey Hill Ice Cream, I wondered if they made a Turkey flavored Ice Cream, just kidding, that would be sick!

  50. Cheryl says:

S’mores Ice Cream sounds good…..and no nuts so maybe I could eat it.

I’m a Buffalo Bills fan so something red, white, blue and nutless would be great.

  51. Bob Kessler Jr says:

Mary Alice was quite inventive with s’mores and its relation to Pittsburgh wanting to win more Super Bowl rings. As someone commented it would be a challenge to come up with this flavor. Will Turkey Hill really try to come up with this combination? If so I would volunteer to be one of the tasters.

  52. jilly says:

haha, at ernie doing the plucking of feather’s…achooo…too funny

  53. MrsK says:

That is So funny. I was just reading quickly and got in my head that the ice cream flavor involved Sausage. I think I should slow down my reading a bit, I guess.

  54. Your Limited Edition Double Dunker is a winner! I hope it joins
the array of wonderful Turkey Hill regular flavors. I can
certainly understand why Ernie has been eating a lot of it lately!
I’m also pleased to read that Ernie is in charge of seeing
the the ice cream goodies are spaced out properly. That is so
important, and one of the reasons I LOVE Turkey Hill!

  55. Meghan says:

That flavor combination sounds amazingly tastey. The only thing I would change would be the name. The New England Patriots need some loving. All the New York and Pennsylvania teams are getting the love and I think Massachusetts should get some too. Maybe a tea flavored one in honor of the Boston tea party? That could be a combination of Turkey Hill Iced tea in a creamy frozen treat. Like a refreshing lemon iced tea Duetto with swirls of a sugary mix. Any flavored iced tea would be good I think, like a raspberry. It would be healthier too probably and could be marketed like a sherbet or sorbet.

  56. Kathleen says:

I think a great duet would be chocolate ice cream and mix it with a Mojito flavored ice cream it would be a big hit. I have tried the twin mint duet and then I thought maybe rum raisin mixed with mojito also would make a great combination. On the healthy side you would be getting the benefits of the raisin and the cool refreshing taste of the mint. And by the way I really enjoyed the twin mint duet another great accomplishment for Turkey Hill.
