It’s time once again for some weird and wacky ice cream news. As usual, three of these stories are true and one was made up by the Turkey Hill team. Guess which story is the fake by leaving a comment. (The Lego ice cream cone on the right has nothing to do with any of these stories. We just thought it was neat and decided to include it here!)
1. MMMMM … LIQUID NITROGEN – Two ice cream lovers decided to quit their jobs and open an ice cream shop in our nation’s capital – but not just any ice cream shop. This shops uses liquid nitrogen to make ice cream in mere minutes, in front of an audience. The quickly-frozen flavors includes pistachio, peanut butter banana whip, strawberry basil, chocolate coffee and honey lavender.
2. A FROSTY BURGER (WITH CHEESE?) – A London, England ice cream truck celebrated the U.K.’s first National Burger Day in style, by whipping up a batch of hamburger-flavored ice cream. The unusual treat comes with candied bacon and dill pickle ripple. Customers also have the option of topping their scoop with ketchup.
3. THE WAR OF THE WAFFLE CONES – Ice cream trucks and the ice cream men who drive them are understandably territorial. But two ice cream men in Manhattan took that turf war to a new level recently. When the driver of one truck invaded the territory of another driver, the angry ice cream man jumped out of his truck and ripped off the intruder’s ice cream permit. The two drivers then faced off in the street (one driver even pulled a knife), before police were called to intervene.
4. PAIN-FREE VANILLA BEAN – A German inventor has found a way to prevent one of modern society’s biggest ailments – brain freeze. The man behind the invention was inspired to put an end to the ice cream headache after being a lifelong sufferer himself. The device, which is similar to a retainer, fits in the user’s mouth and prevents the ice cream from coming into contact with the nerve-filled area on the roof of the month, which is believed to be the trigger for most cases of brain freeze.
