Racin’ babies at the Country Classic

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

This weekend’s Turkey Hill Country Classic was a huge success! Great weather and great people all around always makes for a fun day. Above is a photo taken during our annual Baby Derby. As you can see, babies sort of crawl at their own pace. Some take their time getting off the starting block and others come out of the gate so fast that they need to sit down and take a little break halfway to the finish line. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with taking a little break now then. We could learn a lot from babies!

TURKEY HILL COUNTRY CLASSIC THIS WEEKEND INCLUDES PHILLY PHANATIC AND EAGLES’ SWOOP!

Monday, April 26th, 2010

It’s hard to believe we’ve been at it for 11 years, but this Saturday, May 1, we’ll be hosting our 11th annual Turkey Hill Country Classic. The Country Classic, which features biking and running events but also fun things for the whole family, will be held at the Central Manor Church in Washington Boro, PA here in Lancaster County. Our Giant Cow will be there and we’ll be have free Turkey Hill drinks, ice cream, Herr’s chips and Hatfield hot dogs.

The highlight this year, in addition to the races and fun and games for families, is our first ever Mascot Race at 10:50 am. Among the mascots who will be there are the Philly Phanatic (representing the Philadelphia Phillies), Swoop (representing the Philadelphia Eagles), Cylo (from the Lancaster Barnstormers), and others. In addition to racing, the mascots will be available for photos and autographs.

Anyone who’s been to one of our Country Classic events knows how much fun it is. Even if you’re not participating in one of our sporting events (which you can sign up for now or on the day of the event), kids and families still have lots of fun with various activities and games. And yes, the Baby Derby will return for its 6th year. The Baby Derby (10:30 am), which usually draws the loudest cheers of the day, is a no-holds-barred crawl to the finish line featuring some of the fastest babies (14 months and under) in all the land!

If you plan to attend, a detailed schedule of races and registration times can be found here. If you’re just coming to hang out and have fun, you should arrive around 10 am (or 9am to register for the kids races). That’ll give you plenty of time to enjoy some snacks before the Baby Derby and Mascot Race. If you’re using MapQuest or GPS to find the location, the address is 387 Penn Street, Washington Boro, PA. See you there!

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL TURKEY HILL COUNTRY CLASSIC!

Monday, May 11th, 2009

As reported last week, we recently hosted our 10th Annual Turkey Hill Country Classic. It’s a basically a day of family fun here in Lancaster County. There was lots of ice cream, drinks, Hatfield hot dogs, Herr’s chips and, as always, lots of biking and running races.

After some early morning sprinkles, the weather cleared up and allowed us to get on with the festivities. All proceeds benefited the Lancaster Farmland Trust, which works hard to preserve farmland here in Lancaster County. More than 300 runners and 400 cyclists entered the sporting events (a nice shot of the action is below).

If you missed this year’s Classic, save the date for next year’s event, which will be held on May 1st. See you all in 358 days!

Special thanks to photographer Joe Hess for letting us use this great photo here. Feel free to check out more of Joe’s Country Classic photos here.

CLEAR YOUR CALENDARS THIS SATURDAY!

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

country-classic-logo.gifThis Saturday, May 2, Turkey Hill will be hosting its 10th annual Country Classic at the Central Manor Church of God in Washington Boro, right here in Lancaster, PA. If you’re printing directions via MapQuest, the address is 387 Penn Street, Manor Township in Lancaster.

The Central Manor Church is nestled in one of the most picturesque corners of Lancaster County, so if you’ve been thinking about making a trip to our neck of the woods, this is a great time to do it!

The Country Classic features sporting events for runners and cyclists, but it also includes lots of fun and games for the whole family. There will be free kids rides, games, costumed characters, music and, of course, the baby derby (featuring the fastest babies around!). And if you haven’t registered for the races (baby, child or adult), don’t worry…you can still sign up on the day of the event, beginning at 7 am Saturday morning.

Turkey Hill’s very own Giant Cow will also make an appearance along with plenty of Turkey Hill ice cream and drinks, Herr’s chips and Hatfield hot dogs. All the ice cream, snacks and drinks will be available by donation with all proceeds benefiting the Lancaster Farmland Trust. The Lancaster Farmland Trust is an organization Turkey Hill is very passionate about because they work hard to preserve beautiful farmland throughout Lancaster County.

More information about the Country Classic can be found on our website. Hope to see you there!
